Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Shattered Glass. Enjoy the 2000-word chapter. I don't own Halo, Bungie, Bioware, and 343 do.
(Unknown date and time, Unknown Planet.)
Kelly finished off the last of the creatures, one which seemed to cloak and carry a shotgun. It crashed to the ground dead as Kelly looked up to see the group of humans had fled.
Kelly didn't mind. She had no way to shelter them, nor did they seem safe without reinforcements here to guard them. Kelly was also curious about the ship.
"Who killed these Geth?" Kelly heard from a vale smooth male voice. Kelly took cover behind a boulder and peaked out.
There was a trio of humans clad in armor. Kelly noted the leader was dressed in greyish armor with a N7 symbol on his chest plate. The others wore more regular armor, she guessed they were soldiers, and the leader was more.
Kelly cleared her throat which got the trio to turn to her, weapons at the ready. Kelly aimed her newly acquired rifle on her shoulder.
"Who the hell are you?" The woman questioned which caused Kelly to cock her head.
"I'm a soldier…" Kelly stated which made her wonder. "Second? Your sloppy, if I had had been an enemy? I would have been able to kill one of you before you returned fire." Kelly added which made the group share looks.
(With Gadge)
Gadge stepped off the pelican. He slowly stepped towards the bridge. Gadge could hear Lieutenant Benson speaking up which made the Vice Admiral interested.
"Admiral?" Benson questioned as Gadge hummed and looked to the side. "We might have found Spartan 087… Admiral Hacket told me the Normandy was looking into some kind of attack. If there's anyone we know of that hates humans? It would be the Covenant." Benson added before Gadge took the lift up to the bridge.
"Not exactly, lieutenant." Gadge stated as he let the elevator climb towards the bridge. "Not according to what I've heard. There are far too many variables… Plus Admiral Hacket told me to wait till they checked it out. We aren't exactly friends just because we aren't shooting each other." Gadge reminded the communications officer.
Part of Gadge knew it was a possibility, the timing wasn't that far off. The Covenant would attack the first colony they saw.
But the fact that they had been willing to throw ships away to try and steal the relic at New Carthage? It made him curious if it was a rogue faction… Or if they were just eager to try and score points over lives.
"Then what do you suggest we do about Sierra?" Benson questioned the admiral. "If that relic scattered us all across this galaxy? Then those ships are vulnerable. They'd be sitting ducks for the Covenant or whatever else is after them." Benson added which made Gadge hum.
"She'll hold her own till we get to them." Gadge responded to the Lieutenant as he entered the bridge. "I know Spartans. She'll hunker down and wait for Goliath. She might even find her way back to the ship. Everyone else? Their find their way back." Gadge stated and brushed off his uniform.
Gadge walked up to the bridge window and looked out the main window. This ship was beginning to feel like a second home to him, least compared to his home planet.
"Acknowledged, sir." Benson put in before he and the others turned to look at the Vice Admiral. "Orders, then?" Benson questioned and looked to the man.
"How long till Goliath can swim?" Gadge questioned before folding his hands behind his back. "As soon as we're back up to full strength? I want you to input the coordinates Admiral Hacket gifted us." Gadge put in.
Benson was about to ask what coordinates before his console beeped. He looked to the Vice Admiral who subtly smiled.
"We're not doing this by the UNSC guidebook." Dorian questioned from his station. "Are we?" Dorian asked from his station with a giant smile splitting his lips.
Gadge said nothing, his first thought was to collect his soldiers and then? He'd take the fight to the Covenant. Gadge had his own way of doing things, and if that meant doing something that would anger the brass?
Then so be it. The safety of his men came before anything else. That was something he'd deal with when he got back…. If there was even a galaxy left standing when it got back to it.
(With Kelly)
Kelly looked at the human commander. He reminded her of John, the man didn't look shocked to see a 6 foot 11 eleven-inch super soldier. He didn't look moved by anything except his mission. He was a soldier like her, the other 2? Perhaps, but they were far more on edge and unfocused. Understandable, but not good when it came back to battle.
"That's official Alliance business." The woman put in which caused Kelly to shake her head.
"And my business is defending humanity." Kelly put in and turned to the commanding soldier. "I cant explain things at the moment…. But considering your hunting these… Geth?" Kelly questioned and got a nod.
"Then I'd like offer my help." Kelly put in and turned her weapon to the side. "There's more hostiles approaching… I'll deal with them and rendezvous with you up ahead." Kelly put in as she turned to leave.
"Why the hell would we trust you?" The woman questioned which caused Kelly to shake her head.
"Because if I was a hostile? I'd have shot first…" Kelly hissed in response before turning to the commanding soldier. "Spartan 087, Kelly… Petty Officer First class." Kelly added before turning back around.
"Lieutenant Commander John Shepard. Alliance Marines." The soldier stated which Kelly bristled at.
Another soldier called John? Kelly chuckled internally. No wonder they were unmoved. They had been in combat before, they understood discipline.
Kelly moved onwards to engage the Geth once more. She needed to eliminate them before they killed off the colonists.
Plus, perhaps she could find more clues about how this relic had sent her here… And how to get home.
(With Gadge)
Gadge waited a moment after the systems were set back up… Then he made the call to have Goliath enter Slipspace.
Hacket watched the ship vanish without the mass effect relay. It fascinated the admiral… And concerned him, if the Covenant were able to move around like this? Then they had much bigger issues. He turned from the ship which vanished int a cut into space itself. If Gadge was indeed from another galaxy? Then their technology was at least more advanced then humans in some quandaries.
"Do you think he was telling the truth?" Admiral Hacket heard from one of his staff.
"He sounded pretty coherent for a madman." Hacket responded and watched the ship leave. "But if he is telling the truth? Then we have bigger issues at hand. Keep an eye on him, I want to see what happens next." Hacket ordered and folded his hands behind his back.
(With Kelly)
Kelly ducked behind cover. She opened fire again on the Geth soldiers, one managed to land a few shots which drained the Spartan's shields.
She cursed, the Geth seemed to have no trouble throwing troops away to slow her down. It reminded her of the Covenant being willing to expend small armies to take a few areas.
Kelly primed a M9 grenade and tossed it. The shrapnel launched from it was enough to drain their shields. She followed up with a burst from her Geth rifle. One of the Geth troopers collapsed to the ground. Kelly finished off another by throwing her knife which rammed through the skull of one of the troopers.
"Do they usually stay this hard to kill?" Kelly questioned over a com line. She wanted to test if she and Shepard could communicate.
"Their shielded and well-armed, but there's usually not this many." Shepard responded; Kelly could hear the sounds of gunfire over the com line.
"Hmm…" Kelly let out a hum and closed the distance between her and the remaining Geth.
Kelly leapt up and over the barrier before kicking one of the Geth to the ground. She brought her foot down on it hard, crushing the circuitry and its skull. Kelly watched as another Geth aimed a shotgun at her.
Kelly rolled to the side as the gun fire which allowed her to grab her combat knife. Kelly shot her arm out which pierced the knife up and into the Geth's chest, ending the machine's life.
"They're not that harder to kill then Covenant." Kelly stated and looked at the yellow striped Geth soldier. It had towered over her by several feet.
Kelly hummed and looked to the Geth before she tapped her helmet.
"Commander, what's your status?" Kelly questioned as she slowly made her way down the hill. "I just eliminated another group of Geth. They seem to be clustered around that massive warship." Kelly put in while sweeping her rifle back and forth.
She didn't get a response for a moment then blinked at what she saw. It was something that not even the Covenant had dared pull on humans.
Kelly noted a pair of humans impaled on spikes extending from the ground. Kelly swept her rifle around for Geth units as she drew closer. The corpses didn't look fresh from how impaled on them. Kelly could see their bodies twitch would made her question just how barbaric the Geth could be.
Kelly heard a distant gunshot and instantly turned her rifle to the sound. She watched the massive warship and several of the Geth ships lift off from the planet. Several remained over the skies.
This distracted Kelly enough for the volt of energy which fried the humans before her as the corpses fell off the spikes.
One of them turned and groaned which caused Kelly to turn only for the creature to lunge at her and knock her to the ground. Kelly struggled with the hissing and roaring cybernetic creature.
Kelly felt her gun slid from her hands in the wild swings which knocked down her shields to half. Kelly managed to pry an army free and keep the creature backwards. Kelly grabbed one of her magnums and raised it to the creature's mouth.
Kelly felt the weapon kick as it discharged into the creature's skull. The creature fell limp before the other one lunged at her only for Kelly to shoot it through the head as well. Kelly put another round into each creature.
Kelly cursed as her shields recharged and placed her magnum back on her hip. She was curious about what these creatures were.
Still? Kelly was curious what was next. These Geth were barbaric, but she would fight them as much she had to.
"Kelly, you should return to the ship." Shepard put in which made Kelly blink.
Kelly turned to look at the corpses. They were humans, it made her stomach churn at the fact that the Geth had such a tactic. She could only imagine why they had such a stratagem.
Kelly sighed and straightened up. She moved back towards the ship which had delivered Shepard here.
"It should be time to find the Admiral soon anyway…" Kelly added which made her wonder what happened.
Kelly pondered where the Admiral was to begin with. She could only hope that the Vice Admiral that he was fine.
"Understood, commander." Kelly stated and turned off the comm line.
Little did she know the war that the UNSC had been pulled into… And how it would shatter both of their galaxies.
