Looking in the mirror Kate reached for a tissue, blotting her lipstick she turned looking at Nikki who was sat cross legged on the bed reading a magazine.

"so" she said

Nikki looked up "sorry what" she smiled

"some help you are" Kate laughed "what do you think" she asked.

"nice" Nikki nodded

"its not too much" Kate said turning back to look in the mirror. She had gone for a natural look. Light foundation, a little bit of eyeliner with a small flick, minimal mascara and a slight red lip.

"no its perfect" Nikki smiled "what are you wearing?" she asked

"i was thinking that" Kate pointed to a black skirt with a red top that was hung on the door

"cute" Nicki smiled "well I will leave you to get ready" Nikki smiled sliding off the bed

"are you sure you are okay to watch the girls" Kate asked

"i said yes didn't I. besides as I keep saying you deserve some fun"

"thanks Nik"

"well, what are best friends for" Nikki grinned

Turning back to look in the mirror Kate brushed her fingers along her cheek trying to blend the foundation in a little more so it didn't look too cakey.

Grabbing her clothes, she pulled the skirt on first looking at herself in the mirror it was a tight leather skirt that hugged her hips and was a sort of A-line style. Sighing it didn't look right. Opening her wardrobe, she leafed through the rail pulling off a black 50's style skirt with a red poppy pattern around the hem. It had a pocket on each side with a red trim. Slipping that on she pulled up the side zip. It looked better than the first and it didn't look like she was trying too hard. Tucking in a black vest she added a chunky black belt which made it look more like a dress. She had left her hair down so it fell with a natural curl down her back.

Her phone buzzed with a text. Opening it she smiled seeing it was from him

'change of plan, can you come round to mine and we can take it from there. Been delayed at NAVCOM'

A second message pinged through moments later with his address,

Smiling she typed a reply back quickly 'sure. See you in a bit'

Walking out she slid on a pair of red ballet pumps.

"i thought you were wearing the leather skirt?" Nikki said looking at her.

"yeah, well it didn't look right" she said walking back in to her room grabbing a leather jacket off the back of her door.

"you look amazing" Nikki smiled

"thanks" Kate smiled pulling the number for the Taxi company off the fridge

"i thought Mike was picking you up?" Nikki said

"yeah, he said he was delayed at NAVCOM and could I go round to his first" she shrugged turning her attention back to the phone as it was answered on the other end.

After giving the details the taxi should only be a few minutes she turned to the girls who were sat watching the TV. "right girls be good for auntie Nikki okay" she smiled kissing each of them.

"yes mummy" they both said in unison as if they were always good.

Hearing a horn beep outside Kate picked up her things walking to the door.

"have fun" Nikki grinned

The taxi didn't take too long to get round to Mikes. Paying the driver, she walked up the little path that led to his apartment. Knocking on the door she waited for a answer. She could hear him walking down the hall.

"Kate" he smiled opening the door. "come in"

She smiled stepping over the threshold "something smells good" she said placing her bag on the counter in the Kitchen.

He had several pans on the stove top.

"well, I thought I would cook for you"

"really" she grinned turning "so what are we having?" she asked

"well, I thought I would make Chinese. So, we have chicken and vegetables and Beef with Broccoli" he smiled

"and you made this" she asked leaning over the one pot smelling the food that was in side. "as well as being delayed at NAVCOM" she grinned.

"of course," he said casually pushing the large foil container in to the bin hoping she didn't see

"well, it smells a lot like the stuff we get from the golden dragon"

"busted. How did you know?" he laughed

"well, I saw the delivery driver pull off as I walked up the path."

"ah. That" he grinned "well it's the thought that counts. Do you want a drink?"

"sure" she smiled sitting on a stool. "thanks" she said as he handed her a glass.

"so, which do you fancy?" Mike asked

"what. Oh, we could have a bit of both." she smiled

"right answer" Mike smiled as he began plating up.

Finishing the meal Kate walked over to the living room. Looking along the shelf at his CD's. "can I put this on" she smiled looking over at him.

"sure" he said turning back to something on the counter.

Putting the CD in the player she smiled as the music began to play. It wasn't the sort of tunes she expected to be on his play list. The first song playing was 'wake me up before you go-go' by wham

"another drink" he smiled handing her back her glass.

"thank you" she smiled sitting back on the sofa "so what's with the music" she grinned.

"oh well don't tell anyone but I quite like a cheesy 80's Jam. It's not good for the reputation if my crew find out." he whispered.

"don't worry I won't tell" she grinned.

Looking up in to his eyes she smiled as he lent in kissing her. feeling his hand on her knee she turned pulling away.

"sorry. Too fast?" he said softly

"no. I. it's just I haven't... you know since Jim left"

"we can take things as slow as you like" he said softly.

The track changed. leaning back, it was one of her favourite songs Eternal Flame by the Bangles. Listing to the intro for the song she sighed softly sliding forward she moved so she was sat on his lap. Taking his hand, she placed it over her heart. She placed her own hand on his Leaning in she teased him in to a kiss.

"are you sure" he whispered resting his head against hers.

Smiling softly, she nodded, sliding from his lap before standing and pulling him to his feet he led her across to his room. Sitting on the edge of the bed she fell back against the sheets smiling up at him as he brushed his thumb across her chin leaning in kissing her.
