Most of you haven't got your check-ins in, actually, I've only had one. I hope a few of you could maybe catch up soon. Thanks, Berrybush123 for Victoire.
Victoire Stone
District 2, Female, 18
Victoire had been throwing darts all day, she had started early that morning -around 6 ish- and had been non-stop throwing until 5 pm. She liked the overall activity of throwing darts, it soothed her to know she was doing something productive and she liked that she could possibly get some recognition for her hard work.
Unfortunately, not that she was surprised, no trainer had come to watch her all day. Everyone had mostly been watching Victoria - the female volunteer. Victoire and Victoria had been best friends since the day they were assigned to the same dormitory. They would constantly spar as a duo and people knew, if you were up against them, you stood no chance.
Things were growing apart, though, it had always been clear that Victoria was slightly more skilled, but it had started to show more recently as Victoria had gained the female volunteer spot and left Victoire in second. Always in the shadow, always second, those were the constant thoughts that fogged Victoire's mind day and night.
A short girl with scruffy black hair approached Victoire and gave her a quick hug.
"Hey!" She said softly. Anita was one of Victoire's closest friends. They had always shared a bond of comforting each other and despite Anita being 15, they both got along really well.
"Hi, what's up?" She asked, Anita often came to her for advice, ever since the day they met when Anita was crying alone because of her placement, they were similar in that way. Emotional and insecure about their skills and abilities.
"Just stress. I feel like everything is moving so fast, the closer we're getting to reaping day, knowing Victoria will have to volunteer." A stray tear rolls down her cheek and she wiped it away with the back of her hand. "I'm sorry."
Anita had been sensitive about reaping day since last week, when Victoria was chosen as the female volunteer. It had been a big day for all 3 of them and they had spent the night having a sleepover in Victoria and Victoire's dorm, it was nice, really nice. Victoire had felt the closest to her than she had felt in a long time.
"It's going to be okay, she'll come home to us. I know she will." Victoire says, trying to comfort her but at the same time, she was assuring herself. Anita wasn't the only one nervous for Victoria. "Let's go to the dorm." They walked, holding each other, to dorm 331. They didn't speak a word, just squeezed each other tightly.
As they opened the door, they saw Victoria on the phone, she was visibly upset, and shouting could be heard from the other end of the phone. She looked over at them and nodded that it was okay for them to come in, so they sat on Victoire's bed and waited for her to get off of the phone.
Around 5 minutes later, Victoria was close to tears and finally put the phone down. She didn't say anything to them, instead, she jumped onto her bed and stuffed her head into her pillow.
"Vic, you alright?" She asked as she went to sit beside her on her bed, Anita stayed seated on Victoire's bed. Victoria rolled over to reveal red puffy eyes and tears dripping out of them. "What's up?" She had never seen her so upset.
"My mom, she told me I can't volunteer. She's begged me, forced me even, I've decided to give in. For her, for my family, I just can't risk them all losing me." She said through sobs. She was breathing heavily now and Victoire lifted her head into her arms.
"It's okay, I'm sure the academy won't mind and there's always the second volunteer," Anita said, trying her best to reassure her. That's when it hit her, the second volunteer. The second volunteer…
"I'll be right back!" She cried as she rushed out of the door and shut it behind her, taking the stairs 3 at a time and tripping over her feet at least five times until she made it to the volunteer sheets.
Female Volunteer: Victoria Keeper
Backup: Victoire Stone
Excitement rushed through her, her hands were shaking and all at the same time she felt guilty that she was taking this from Victoria but finally her chance had come, and she couldn't just let it go.
Could she?
A/N: I know this chapter probably wasn't my best but I really just wanted to get one out there and finish up the intros, next I'll do goodbyes and train rides with some new PoVs.
