High dive into frozen waves

Where the past comes back to life

Fight fear for the selfish pain

It was worth it every time

He watched her, he couldn't stop. Like a lion stalking its prey. It wasn't his place, not anymore and Lexie had made that perfectly clear. But still, he couldn't help but feel protective, even going as far as to shield her when shots rang out in the lobby the day of the shooting. He had wrapped her up into his arms, using his body to shield her as gunfire echoed around them. He didn't know why he had done that, maybe deep down he still cared for her. No, scratch that. He did still care, he did more than care. He still loved her, he still wanted her. He didn't think he would ever stop.

Trying to make it appear that he was busy, his eyes wandered. Watching as she paced back and forth in front of a hospital room. A room that held Lexie's new boyfriend, Dr. Alex Kerev. She looked beautiful, exhausted and terrified and he would be lying if he didn't admit that that killed him. Seeing Lexie in any sort of pain caused him pain. Her pain was his pain.

Hold still right before we crash

'Cause we both know how this ends

A clock ticks till it breaks your glass

And I drown in you again

He couldn't take it. Slowly he walked over, placing his hand on her back gently.

"Can I get you anything?" His husky voice asked, making Lexie weak in the knees just like every time she talked to him.

"Uh, no. I'm alright," she smiled softly.

"Really? Because you're about to burn a hole in the floor with all the pacing you're doing," he joked, smiling softly.

She smiled back at him as their eyes met. She was trying to avoid that, the feeling she couldn't help every time she looked at him. He started to walk away, only for her to grab his hand, pulling him back.

"Thank you," she whispered. "You saved him and you didn't have to. You could've taken cover like everyone else but you didn't. You risked your life to save mine and his and I just...thank you," she whispered.

'Cause you are the piece of me

I wish I didn't need

Chasing relentlessly

Still fight and I don't know why

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?

If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?

If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?

"A lot of people died, Lex. Derek almost died and Meredith lost their child." He paused. "For what it's worth, I'm glad you're still alive," Mark said, smiling softly.

Unshed tears pooled in her eyes as she looked around, her hand tightly grasped around his.

"This-this is my fault. I'm the reason why we lost people today. I'm the one who unplugged his wife," she whispered, her voice cracking. "I'm the reason Alex almost died."

"Hey, enough of that," Mark whispered. Taking his finger, he lifted her chin so she was looking at him. "You didn't cause any of this. You were doing your job." He walked away, pulling her with him as they made their way to an on-call room. Somewhere they could be alone. He sat down on the bed, pulling her down next to him as tears started streaming down her cheeks.

Walk on through a red parade

And refuse to make amends

It cuts deep through our ground

And makes us forget all common sense

Don't speak as I try to leave

'Cause we both know what we'll choose

If you pull, then I'll push too deep

And I'll fall right back to you

"Why do I screw everything up?" She whispered. He looked at her, knowing she wasn't talking about just the shooting. He held her close, feeling her tears soak his shirt.

"It wasn't your fault, Lex," he whispered.

"I made you choose between your daughter and me. It wasn't right, it wasn't fair and you should have never been put in that position." He reached up, pushing her hair back as he stared at her.

"She's not an issue anymore, Lex, she left." He paused. "I should have never let you go, it was stupid and I don't blame you for freaking out. I never talked to you about it and I should've. I only knew Sloane all of five minutes and I've known you a lot longer. I loved you, Lexie, I still love you and I messed this up."

'Cause you are the piece of me

I wish I didn't need

Chasing relentlessly

Still fight and I don't know why

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?

If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?

"I...I love you," Lexie whispered. "I never stopped. I can't breathe whenever I'm around you. I feel like I'm suffocating. I'm with Alex, but I'm not with him. All I can think about is you. You're like a disease that never goes away. You're on my mind all day and it hurts to look at you knowing I messed this up."

"You didn't mess anything up, Lex, you're still my girl. You're still my everything. We're meant to be, Lexie." Mark whispered.

"Meant to be," she whispered. They stared at each other before they leaned in, they were about to kiss when she pulled back.

"Wait, what about Alex?" She asked.

"Can you see yourself with him for the rest of your life? Can you see yourself having kids with him? Because whenever I look at you, I can't help but think about marrying you and having kids with you. I love you more than life itself, Lex. I would die for you if I had to. Can Alex say the same?" He asked, looking into her eyes.

She sighed, closing her eyes. "I love you, too. I always have." She smiled and he did the same. Slowly he leaned in, and as she did the same, their lips met, their bodies meshed together like perfect puzzle pieces that fit each other beautifully that could never be ripped apart.

Why are you my clarity?

Why are you my remedy?

Why are you my clarity?

Why are you my remedy?

If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?

If our love's insanity, why are you my clarity?
