Diane entered the small observation room ready to start her evening shift when she looked up and noticed Jacob wasn't in his cell, she turned to the other scientist working at his computer
"where is Ja...subject VAJF.70?" she questioned
The scientist continued to type as he replied
"They took him up to the genetic labs about two hours ago"
Diane looked worried
"Are they bringing him back?"
"I hope so" the scientist mumbled "otherwise I've wrote all this crap for nothing..."
Diane let out a little breath and sat at her own desk to continue with her research. As she clicked through the files she noticed another file that was marked "missing", she clicked the files marked subject VAEF.70 when suddenly her screen was splashed with "access denied", Diane sighed as the scientist approached her desk
"Oh Diane, I forgot to tell you. Dr. Conri wants you to look into why the subject's heart stopped on transfer. They say they can't risk their main subject until they can do a safe transition"
"I'll get right on it..." Diane said bored, but instead she clicked a novel on her computer she had uploaded called "The Brotherhood of Assassin's, the truth behind the myth"
After an hour of reading, activity coming from the cell caught Diane's attention. She raised her eyes from her screen to see two guards dragging Jacob back into his cell, they threw him roughly to the floor and left. Diane watched as Jacob weakly pulled himself up.
She quickly turned to her colleague
"I need a coffee... want one on me?" she asked
He looked back and stretched
"Yeah, sounds good. I could do with a break"
Diane passed her card over and when the scientist left the room she pulled something small from the large crocodile clip that was holding her hair back. She then grabbed a medical box and made her way to the cell.
The guard watched Diane approach
"Hello Tim, how's the wife" she questioned.
She was glad Tim was on duty today. He was a friendly sort
"Hello Diane, she good tah. You heading in?"
"Yeah, I've got to run a few tests before his next run..."
"Alright love, just be careful...He's a bit of a savage this one, do you want me to accompany you?"
"oh no, I'll be fine the others are overseeing...and I'll shout if I need you"
"as you wish" Tim replied as he swiped his pass on the reader, Diane nodded as she entered and made her way across the room towards Jacob after the door swished closed. He was leaning against the wall with his arms draped over his knees with his head down. As he lifted his head to see whom had entered Diane immediately noticed his bloodshot eyes
"What on earth have they done to you now...?" She said sadly as she crouched beside him, noticing the bruises that were appearing under his eyes
"They wanted to know how our heightened vision works" he mumbled "seems they don't get their hands on many with the ability..."
"can you see okay?" she questioned
"yes, the light hurts, but I can manage"
"Jacob, we need to get you out, and now"
"I would like nothing more, but I don't see how we are going to manage that. You need those little cards to get anywhere here and I sense guards everywhere" he said defeated
Diane then pulled the small sharp blade out
"here, we can use this, now come on get up!" she growled "I started a little research last night on this brotherhood of yours I've heard mentioned around here, and they sounded formidable. Are you an Assassin or not?"
Jacob looked at her confused
"Why are you risking everything to help me?"
Diane looked ahead
"You remind me of my son...I lost him recently to those Albion monsters claiming he was working with a terrorist group, which is absolute bullcrap. Everyday I regret bringing him here" she said as she trailed off, then looked at Jacob "I'm trying to save another mother the pain that kind of grief brings"
Jacob looked at her and smiled
"whilst my mother would probably thank you for it, I lost her long ago...and everyone I ever loved are now long dead" he said quietly "I wonder what Evie would of thought of this place? She loved this kind of stuff...I only saw her a few days ago but she's probably been dead for nigh on a century..."
Diane looked at him sadly
"Jacob, I promise I will try and find a way to get you home, but first you must get out of here. I sat at home last night and decided I'm going to do everything in my power to sabotage this machine. No one should have this kind of power, but I'm going to need your help to do it if I'm to succeed and for us to do that, you need to get away safely"
"you have a plan then?" he asked
"This blade, use it to take me hostage and get us past the first door, then, deal with Tim. But not too harshly, he's not a bad guy. take his gear and I'll point you in the best direction to get out. I read your type were good at parkour...I'm hoping that's true"
"Par what?" Jacob questioned
"Finding a route through almost any obstacle..." Diane quickly replied as she pulled him to his feet
"I'm pretty good" Jacob smirked
"come on then hurry, we're running out of time"
Jacob felt more confident now and was suddenly ashamed at himself for feeling defeated so easily. He wasn't going to let the Templars win this one without a fight...
