I've been WAITING to write this chapter for so long. And I hope you enjoy this because this chapter does add to this story.
Chapter Nine
Pregnancy Partners
Marinette hurried out of the apartment complex with a smile on her face. She always liked baby's, and Nadja's newborn son, Greyson was adorable. Of course, she expected her own child to be cuter but that was biased. Still, Greyson was the sweetest baby she'd met and Menon was actually good with him. Of course, she'd spent almost all of her time there entertaining Menon so Nadja could take care of Greyson, but she still hadn't mind. Menon was a sweet girl she cared about and expected that one day she'd be babysitting her own child.
"We should get something to eat, huh?" she asked, placing her hand on her raincoat. Her bump was still hideable, but she loved feeling it. It was just proof she would be a mom.
Looking up, she spotted a Starbucks across the street. Though she could easily go home and eat something similar, she had a sudden craving for a Starbucks hot chocolate and egg sandwich." Starbucks it is," she whispered down to her stomach.
Crossing the street with her hands in her pocket, she pushed to door open, frowning at the line. There were three people before her, but she wouldn't move. Now she needed that hot chocolate. A light buzzing in her pocket caught her attention and she slid her phone out. She smiled down at the contact.
[My Kitty: We still on for tonight?]
The question confused her greatly.
[Bugaboo: You come practically every night. Why are you making this time?]
[My Kitty: Oh shit... you forgot didn't you?]
The heck? she thought, confusedly taking a step forward in line.
[Bugaboo: What are you talking about?]
[My Kitty: We planned on telling my father tonight.]
Her phone nearly fell from her hands. Luckily she didn't drop it but her blood still ran cold. She forgot about their plan, and really, she wasn't prepared to face Gabriel Agreste.
[My Kitty: Bug?]
[My Kitty: Marinette are you okay?]
Reading the texts, she focused enough to respond, taking a set forward.
[Bugaboo: Ya ya, I'm good.]
[My Kitty: If you're not feeling well we can't reschedule.]
[Bugaboo: No, I want to do it tonight.]
[My Kitty: You sure?]
[Bugaboo: Yes, I don't want to keep putting it off. I just want to get it over with.]
She took another fearful step forward, terrified to break the news to one of her idols that she was pregnant with his son's child.
[My Kitty: Don't worry, I'll protect you,]
She smiled, able to picture his charming grin as he typed that. Quickly she responded.
[Bugaboo: Our hero. And don't worry, I'll protect you from your own worry.]
It took a minute but he finally responded.
[My Kitty: Haha, you're so puniful, m'lady.]
She tried to keep her faint giggle to the lower side.
[Bugaboo: I know:) I'm at Starbucks, want anything?]
Seconds later she got a response.
[My Kitty: Just you Purrincess;)]
A furious blush spread across her face and she rapidly responded, nearly making a few typos.
[Bugaboo: Adrien!]
[My Kitty: What?!]
[Bugaboo: And my mother said you were a gentleman.]
[My Kitty: I am! Oh come on Bug, can't a guy have fun?]
[Bugaboo: Not when I'm in public]
[My Kitty: Soooo... later tonight?]
The blush grew brighter.
[Bugaboo: We're telling your father about the result of our endeavors tonight.]
[My Kitty: Ugh... he really does ruin everything.]
[Bugaboo: So do you want anything to eat?]
Three dots appeared and she quickly added on.
[Buagboo: Not me.]
The dots disappeared for a brief moment and she couldn't help but groan.
[My Kitty: You take the fun out of everything, but if your asking, I'll take a matcha]
At the sound, she stuck her tongue out. Typically she loved matcha, but not since falling pregnant.
[Bugaboo: Fine, but if I throw up on the walk home it's your fault]
She sent the text, slipping her phone back into her pocket. the person before her swiftly moved to go wait for her drink and she stepped forward."I'll have-"
"One sec," a tired voice said from below the cash register. The voice was familiar, she'd Definity heard it many times but she couldn't pinpoint it." Sorry, the floors are slippery and spills are consistent." the teen said, standing up, wiping her hands on a rag, brown with coffee stains.
Marinette shook her head quickly with her hands up." N-No problem," she said, opening her eyes, she was instantly surprised." Kagami?" she asked, seeing her good friend standing behind the counter."Since when do you work at Starbucks?"
Kagami sighed, rubbing her right eyes, lines, and shadows underneath it." Since five weeks ago," she said, bring her arm down to her side with a heave, wiping it on the green Starbucks apron she wore over the white button-down shirt with various stains. Pinned to her apron, was a name tag, reading in print: Kagami. It had been some time since she'd seen her, and all she could say was that she did not look the same. She seemed drained and skinny in the face. She'd always been fit and petite, but her skin was an unhealthy pale."Now what can I get you?" she asked.
"Oh a hot chocolate, a cold match, and two egg sandwiches," she said, aware that egg sandwiches were one of Adrien's favorite foods, especially when they came on croissants.
"Ordering for Adrien or...?" she asked, looking at her moment for a second." Sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," the sudden apology confused the designer since she'd shown no sign of being uncomfortable. She'd said it quietly so no one would've heard and she was her close friend so she suspected she knew.
"No no, you didn't," Marinette cut herself short, watching as Kagmia turned to hand one of her coworkers her order. It wasn't obvious, actually, that was a lie. Beneath her apron and shirt, Marinette could clearly see her stomach sticking out. Nothing massive but slightly bigger than her stomach at the moment. What... is that? Kagami's always been so fit unless she's...? Shock filled Marinette and she soon noticed she'd been staring."When do you get out?" Marinette asked quietly before stepping away so the next person could order.
Kagami looked at her with questioning eyes, adjusting the way she stood as she realized Marinette had clearly noticed."In about 15, but I have a later shift,"
"I'll wait," Marinette said, saying nothing else as she went to sit and wait for her food to come out. Slowly sipping her coffee, she noticed Kamgia, who'd just got on her break, step out from behind the counter. Over her arm, she held a raincoat, slowly beginning to untie her apron.
"Sorry for making you wait," she apologized in a quiet voice, trying to place her jacket in front of her torso once she'd removed her apron. But it had been too late. Marinette had clearly seen that small baby bump that was slightly larger and much more obvious than her own.
Marinette was shocked. It had been some time since she'd spoken to Kagami, but they still would text occasionally. Of course, she'd called Kagami to inform her of her pregnancy, but Kagami never even mentioned the fact she could be."Are you...?"
Kagami turned away, pulling her coat over both arms." It's warmer out, wanna sit out there." she suggested, uncomfortable in such a packed room.
"Sure," Marinette said forcing a smile onto her face. The two huddled outside,e sitting in a spot that the sun hit. There was an awkward silence and Marinette tried not to stare."How far along are you?" she asked,d not wanting to assume she was pregnant, but really had no other answer.
She bit her, lip, uncomfortable in her own skin."16," she answered without looking her in the eyes.
Marinette practically choked on her hot chocolate."16?" she questioned, unable to believe that Kagami, who was 16 weeks, was larger than her who was 22 weeks."16 weeks?"
Kagami turned her brown eyes at her for a second, nodding slowly."Ya,"
"H-How?" she asked, not wanting to be rude since it was clear that her friend wasn't as happy as she was to be having a baby, but she needed answers.
Kagami continued to look away and Marinette couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking. After what could've been hours, she finally forced an answer."It's twins," she forced herself to say, not an ounce of joy at her words.
So that explained it. Marinette forced her eyes up, feeling bad since it was clear talking about it, or them wasn't her favorite thing."How long have you known?"
She shrugged, crossing her arms to try and cover her stomach." We found out two months ago," she said, staring out at the road, eyes focused on nothing in particular.
"That you were pregnant or that it was twins?" she asked, taking another sip of her hot chocolate."
"That I'm... pregnant," she said hesitantly."We only found out it was twins a few weeks ago."
I wonder what that must be like, she thought. One baby was already putting her through hell, she could only imagine what two was like."Do they run in your or Luka's family, or was it a surprise?"
"Twins run in my family. My mom's a twin, though I've only met my aunt a few times." she explained, sighing."Like I'll see her again."
"What?" Marinette questioned.
The already pale teen fell even paler for a moment."My mom wanted me to get an abortion. I didn't and still don't necessarily want to be a mom, but when she found out it was twins, she didn't give me a choice and left me. I've been living with Luka for the past few weeks." she explained, the frown that had been on her face for the past few weeks still present.
"Are you both okay?" she asked, shocked her mom would just leave her. sure she knew her mom wasn't the best, but leave her own daughter pregnant with twins? That was just horrible. Oh no! What if Gabriel does the same!? I guess Adrien could live with us but I doubt my parents would really like that...
"I guess," she shrugged, guilt filling her." I've dropped out since I won't have time for school and Luka's not applying for college so we both can work before they come. Enough about me, how are you and Adrien?" she asked."Are you guys dating or...?"
"Oh," Marinette said, biting her lip." We aren't official. I mean, we've said we love one another and such, but we haven't actually started." she explained, looking at the matcha tea." Here," she said holding it out.
Kagami shook her head."I'm good, but thank you,"
"Please, it'll be cold by the time I get home." she said, continuing to hold it out."Can really, I can't stand the smell of it."
Kagami managed an awkward smile."Thank you," she said, taking a short sip of the drink."Hey Marinette,"
"Ya?" Marinette asked cheerfully.
"Are you and Adrien happy?" she asked.
Marinette nodded."We're scared and still have to figure some stuff up, but I'm excited and we're happy together. Why do you ask?"
Kagami shrugged, looking down at the drink."I don't know, I just thought by now, I'd feel something,"
"Towards the babies?" she asked, receiving a nod.
"Do you feel like a connection?" Kagami asked, curiously.
She nodded once more."Not at first, but I definitely feel connected to it. Obviously, once we know if it's a boy or girl and the name, I'll probably feel more connected, but I definitely do." she said, excited to find out the gender of her baby at her next appointment."Why?"
"I just don't feel anything. Of course, I'm happy I guess but I'd think once I started showing and knowing it was two, I'd just feel something more," she explained, taking another sip of the matcha.
Marinette frowned for a moment but smiled, touching her hand."Well, you don't have to worry, because we'll do it together."
This time, Kagami smiled genuinely, for the first time feeling some hope."Thank you, Marinette."
"It's nothing, and they'll probably be friends," she chimed, happy that her baby would get to grow up with not only one, but two friends.
Yes, it was always planned for along with Marinette being pregnant, for Kagami to be pregnant. No, this story will never entirely focus on Kagami and Luka, but they'll play a big role in Adrien and Marinette's story(and this could possibly set up a sequel of their children going through the same thing... just throwing it out there) Oh, and in the third or fourth chapter, the person throwing up in the bathroom stall beside Marinette was Kagami.
Oh and I'd love to hear guesses on the baby's gender! I have chosen and can't wait to write that chapter.
