Chapter 9 – Finishing up break
Wednesday morning Elizabeth and Henry loaded back up in their car and headed back to VA. It was a quiet ride, but they held hands and just soaked in each other not wanting to let go. When they arrived back home Elizabeth sat down with Will and Sophie and explained everything. They then went and unpacked their bags. Henry and Elizabeth felt like they had not spent much time with the kids, so they called a family movie night, and all cuddled up on the couch to watch a movie. Will took Sofie out on a date. Elizabeth took Jason up for his bath and Henry sat and colored with Alli. When Jason was done with his bath, Elizabeth ran Ali a bath and called her up. Elizabeth and Henry sat and read to Jason and listened about his day. When he was asleep Elizabeth went and got Ali out of the bath. When Ali was done and, in her Jammies,, Henry braided her hair and then Elizabeth and Henry sat and listened about her day and read to her until she fell asleep. When they were asleep, Henry went out to make sure the barn was shut down for the night while Elizabeth cleaned up the house. She started a load of laundry. Sofie had been a life saver and had been doing bedding while she was gone. Henry and Elizabeth worked together to finish folding the blankets and sheets and getting them put away and rooms made up for the next time they had guest.
Thursday, Elizabeth, and Henry decided to take Ali and Jason to the children's museum. Will and Sofie decided to tag along. Elizabeth was quite sure Henry and Will were having as much fun as the kids. Ali used the face paint to decorate every one's face. Sofie and Elizabeth took pictures and laughed at how crazy the guys were acting. "he is going to be a good father, right?" Sofie stated aloud kind of asking herself, kind of asking Elizabeth. "I think he will be when he is there" Elizabeth responded. Neither of them was naive that this was going to be a struggle. When the children's museum closed, they went to the pizza place next door and spent some time there. They then decided to go see a movie. Will and Sofie decided they would go to a grown-up movie while Henry and Elizabeth took the kids to see a Disney movie. They mostly decided on a movie because Elizabeth wanted popcorn. By the time that got home it was past bedtime and the kids were already asleep. Will carried in Jason and Henry carried in Ali. They got them put to bed and all gather back in the living room. Will and Sofie were leaving tomorrow as they needed to fly back to London. They sat around talking and teasing each other. Sofie said goodnight and went to pack their bags as they would be leaving early in the morning. Henry kissed Elizabeth and stated he was going to check on the kids and then read for a while. Will and Elizabeth just sat in silence; they did not need to talk they just wanted the comfort of being in the same space. "Remember how much mom loved Christmas lights?" Elizabeth asked Will. "yes, she had dad put them up everywhere and we would drive around almost every night during Christmas looking at lights." Will answered they went back to being quiet just looking at the Christmas tree.
Friday morning, Elizabeth got up at 6:30 wanting to be up to say goodbye she went down and made a pot of coffee. She sat in the sitting room enjoying the peace and quiet. As much as she loved the noise, she also loved the quiet. Will was the first to come out. We are going to be leaving in about 30 minutes he told Elizabeth. Elizabeth went and woke up Henry knowing he would want to say goodbye. She kissed him on his forehead and then his cheek and then lightly on his lips. He grabbed her and pulled her on to him rolling them over, so he was on top of her deepening their kiss. She moaned into him and then pushed him off. "We need to say goodbye to Will and Sofie" She climbed off him and got up he grabbed her arm and pulled her back into bed her back to his chest putting one leg over her to help keep ahold of her. He finally let her go as he had to go to the bathroom. She kissed him and told him she would meet him downstairs.
They said goodbye to Will and Sofie thanking them for all their extra help. Elizabeth promised they would visit this summer and then when the baby comes. They spent the day just hanging out and playing with the kids. When Jason went down for a nap Elizabeth took out Ali and they went riding for a while. After about an hour Elizabeth brought Ali into Henry and went for a ride on Buttercup. When she was done, she fed all the horses and cleaned out their stalls and wiped down the horses. She did some other cleaning up in the barn to make sure it was all cleaned up. Henry was inside teaching Ali how to play chess. Jason woke up from nap and Henry let him bring some toys down to the living room to play with his toys while he kept playing chess with Ali.
When Elizabeth was done in the bar she came in and needed a shower. She decided she would take a bath and asked Ali if she wanted to take a bubble bath with her. Elizabeth jumped in shower really quick to get the dirt and horse crap off her and then ran a bubble bath. Elizabeth and Ali took a bubble bath and henry played with Jason. They then put a movie in and all sat on the couch and watched a movie together. They just warmed up leftovers for supper and ate while watching the movie. Once it was bedtime Jason got a bath and Ali and Henry read together for a while. After Jason's bath Elizabeth laid with him while Henry read to him until he fell asleep.
Saturday came and Erin dropped Stevie off before heading out with her friends for the evening. Elizabeth had invited Ms. Janie and her new boyfriend over and her daughter for supper. They were going to exchange gifts. They did this every year and Elizabeth could not wait for her gift. Henry made Chili and Cinnamon rolls. They ate supper, Christy Ms. Janie's daughter played with the kids. While Ms. Janie and her boyfriend Craig Milton talked with Elizabeth and Henry. Elizabeth kind of knew Craig he was a professor in the math department and on her team. After they had talked for a while Elizabeth called the kids in so they could exchange presents. Ali had gotten Ms. Janie a beautiful new scarf. Jason had gotten her a new coffee cup. Stevie gad gotten her a picture frame with a photo of the two of them. Elizabeth and Henry had gotten her a gift card to a nice restaurant and a gift card for the movies. They had gotten Ms. Janie's daughter a gift card to the college bookstore and one to a clothing store they knew she loved. Ms. Janie got Stevie a new book she had been wanting. Ali a sketch book and pencils and Jason a remote-control car. The best gift of all was the one for Elizabeth and Henry. She had made on for them every year since she started. It was a scrapbook with pictures she had taken throughout the year of the kids. It made Elizabeth cry every year it was her favorite and she showed anyone who would look when they came to visit. Christy ask Elizabeth and henry what they were doing for New Year's Eve. They told her they did not have a babysitter as they had waited to long. Christy had already decided she was not going to do anything. Most of her friends were 21 and would be going to the bar where she didn't turn 21 till the middle of January.
Sunday morning Henry got up and took the kids to church letting Elizabeth sleep in. He liked going to mass and the kids enjoyed Sunday school. After church Henry took the kids out for brunch and then to the park as it was a un usually warm day out. Meanwhile at the house Elizabeth slept till 10am and got up. She went to the barn and took buttercup out for a long ride. She knew Henry was going to be gone till midafternoon and she did not get a chance very often to spend a long amount of time out running with her horse and it was a warm day. When she was done riding, she fed the horses and brushed buttercup down. She then went in and made coffee and popcorn and went up to their room and read a book and enjoyed the quiet. Henry got back about 4, Elizabeth was just getting out of the shower. Henry left the kids downstairs with a movie on and popcorn so he could go get ready also.
Walking into the bathroom he saw Elizabeth standing there in just her towel blow drying her hair. He went up behind her and wrapped his hands around her waist kissing her cheek and down her neck along her collarbone. She put a pizza in the oven for the kids. Christy was coming at 5 and should be here any minute.
Christy knocked a few minutes after 5, Stevie let her in. Christy could smell the pizza was done and pulled it out of the oven. She figured Elizabeth had gotten distracted trying to make supper. She opened a can of corn and made a small salad and called the kids for supper. Elizabeth came from the garage where she had been going through an old box and had got distracted. Henry came down the stairs and a pair of jeans and a nice fitting t shirt that laid on his muscles just the right way. Elizabeth just wanted to take him back upstairs.
Henry and Elizabeth left, and Henry started driving them and pulled into their old stopping ground Bowlorama. "Bowling and Burgers" Elizabeth asked excitedly. Henry got out of the car and opened her car door for her. He grabbed her hand and they walked inside. He had rented a lane and Elizabeth saw there were two people already sitting there. As they got closer, she realized that it was Isabel her best friend from the CIA. Elizabeth and Isabel hugged, and Isabel introduced her date James to Elizabeth and Henry. They set up the lanes to bowl and went and got their shoes. When the waitress came, they ordered a bucket of beers. Elizabeth kissed Henry and thanked him for her surprise. She had missed Isabel. Elizabeth kicked everyone's ass in bowling, and they ate double bacon cheeseburgers and fires. At 9 Henry said it was time to go and they all loaded up into a cab. "where are we going now Elizabeth asked eyeing Henry. Henry handed the cab driver the address and told her to sit back and relax
They pulled up to a house it was Conrad's. Her old director of the CIA he was having a New Year's Eve spy party. Elizabeth was super excited and practically ran into the house she hadn't seen her friends since she left the agency, and they went out for one last hooruh. "George? I am so glad to see you, I have missed you" Elizabeth told her old friend George pulling him in for a hug. They all greeted each other. George was there with his wife Angela, Conrad, and his wife Lydia. Muncie and his wife Kate and her other best friend Juliet and her husband Aiden.
Juliet, Isabel, George and Elizabeth were a team at the CIA. Muncie was their supervisor and Conrad was the Director they all had gotten close. They sat around the living room catching up on each other's lives and drinking. Lydia, Kate, and Angela ended up in the kitchen chatting about their spouses and there one true love the CIA. Henry, James, and Aiden found a basketball game on tv and hid out in the den. The spy's sat together for a while talking about life and their time In the CIA.
About 11:30 Henry came in and pulled Elizabeth up and sat in her chair and then pulled her back onto his lap. "I missed you" he whispered in her ear. Aiden followed in along with James and sat with there Juliet and Isabel. George got up to find Angela. They all ended back up in the living room together. "do you wanna dance?" Henry asked Elizabeth. She looked around there was music on, but it wasn't really a dancing party. George grabbed Angela's hand and pulled her up to dance as well. Eventually one by one they were all dancing. When it came down for the countdown, they all counted down together. 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 Happy new year. Henry dipped Elizabeth and kissed her. They pulled up to the hotel and Elizabeth got a big smile on her face. She kissed Henry as he paid the taxi driver. They walked over to the car and he grabbed their bags out of the trunk. Elizabeth just smiled. He had thought of everything. They walked back across the street to the hotel. They checked into the room. Henry had packed some extra surprises for tonight. When they got home it was about 12:30 and Christy had fed the kids lunch and put them down for nap. Ali doesn't take naps very often, but they were up super late last night and woke up super early today. Elizabeth and henry paid Christy along with a nice bonus.
Elizabeth took Stevie out to ride while Henry unpacked their bags. Elizabeth and Stevie rode for a few hours and then brushed down and fed the horses and worked together to muck out the stalls. When they got inside Jason and Ali were awake and they were down stairs. Stevie asked if they could just have a chill night. Elizabeth was perfectly ok with that she was sore from last night and riding the horses this afternoon did not help.
Henry sat against the arm chair of the couch and Elizabeth sat between his legs both reading, Stevie sat at the other end of the couch reading her own book. Ali was sitting at the coffee table playing with her barbies and coloring. Jason was sitting on the floor playing with his trains. They spent the evening doing nothing had leftovers for supper. They kind of rotated around the room with Elizabeth and Henry both taking turns playing with Jason on the floor.
Tuesday morning when they got up it was time to put the Christmas stuff away. They worked together to get all the lights taken down and the tree. It was all done by lunch. Elizabeth made a quick lunch while Stevie and henry took all the decorations to the attack. They sat and had lunch together, after lunch they laid down Jason for nap. Ali and Henry settled in to play chess while Elizabeth and Stevie went out to ride horses again. The kids started school again tomorrow and Elizabeth and Henry were expected at the college for office hours to get ready for the next semester. They spent the evening getting ready for school the next day.
