Part 8: Past Kyon in Trouble(?)
As the party walked down the sidewalk, trying to appear casual (save Ishtar who was again in spirit form), Mordred spoke up, "So how are we gonna do this? You gonna try imitating your other self again and have Kyon come outside?"
"Correct," Yuki nodded. "However, before that, there is one small manner to deal with..." She came to a stop, the others doing the same. "Hassan of Hundred Personas, reveal yourself."
"Gah! How did you...?!" Several skull-masked personas appeared as if from thin air.
"Not these jerks again!" Mordred groaned as she equipped Clarent, deflecting a sudden strike from a spear-wielding assassin!
"Engaging the enemy!" Mash cried as she blocked another persona's attack with her shield.
"Don't leave me out of the fun!" Ishtar proclaimed as she materialized, blasting the Hassans with several energy arrows from Maanna!
"Why are they attacking?" Dantes pondered as he effortlessly dodged several attacks. "This strategy didn't work last time... surely this assassin isn't that stupid..."
"Now that you mention it, someone seems to be missing..." Ritsuka realized as he stayed close to Mash. "Where's Ayako? She's supposed to be the front-face of Hundred Personas..."
Realization dawned on Yuki as she blew away a persona with a magic blast. "Ishtar, cover for me! I will go ahead!" She broke from the group and ran off, a few personas attempting to pursue, only for one to be lanced through with Gae Bolg, the rest being downed by Ishtar's arrows!
*At Kyon's house...*
"Yare yare, what a day..." the past Kyon sighed as he laid back on his bed. "Why did Nagato have to get involved with this Grail War to begin with... she doesn't even have a wish..."
"Kyon-san," a quiet female voice spoke up, causing him to rear up in surprise, seeing a dark-skinned woman standing by the window!
"What the-?! Oh, you're Asakura-san's servant... uh, Assassin, was it?" Kyon grunted as he placed a hand over his chest, trying to calm his heart rate.
"Yes. I came to warn you," Assassin nodded. "There's a group of powerful enemies coming here, with intent to kidnap you and force Nagato and her friends to surrender their stakes in this Grail War."
"What?! Naze?!" Kyon gasped in disbelief, getting off his bed. "So, you're here to protect me?"
"No. My other selves are trying to hold off the enemy, but they are too powerful for us to prevail," Assassin shook her head. "I need to hide you somewhere. Meet me outside. We have no time to waste." With that, she leapt back out through the window.
"Oh, man... why me?" Kyon groaned as he pulled his shoes back on, leaving his room and going down the stairs... looking back, he saw that his little sister was completely absorbed in whatever was on the TV... (Good, don't want to try and explain things to her...) He slipped out the door as quietly as he could, seeing Assassin waiting for him. "So where are we going?"
"Follow me," Assassin beckoned, turning to go down the street- only for a magic blast to impact the asphalt in front of her! "Curses! They're here already?!"
"Stop right there, Ayako!" a familiar voice called out, Kyon turning to see an all-too-familiar face running up! "Your intentions may be noble, but you misunderstand!"
"N-Nagato?! What's going on?" Kyon asked confusedly.
"Do not be deceived!" Ayako hissed. "She is nothing but an impostor that wears your beloved's face!"
"That is untrue!" Yuki said with uncharacteristic anger. "If you will not yield, you leave me no choice." Raising her staff, she materialized metal spears that were hurled at the Hassan, Ayako flip-jumping over them and retaliating with thrown knives! Yuki blocked one with her staff, one knife tearing the shoulder of her robes while the last one knocked her hat off! Undeterred, the caster magicked a mini-blizzard which left Kyon shivering from the cold as Ayako was hit with several tiny ice crystals, which did little damage but succeeded in slowing her down.
"Y-you're n-not Nagato! Nagato c-can't do this!" Kyon grunted as he backed away, his teeth chattering from the cold.
"The Yuki Nagato whom you know cannot, correct," Yuki clarified. "I come from an alternate history." As she spoke, she formed more spears, which now skewered Ayako with unnerving accuracy. "I am sorry, Ayako, but you forced my hand. I will see you again in Chaldea."
"Forgive me, Master...!" Ayako gasped, before collapsing and fading away.
"You killed her!" Kyon gasped in horror. "How can I trust you after seeing that?!"
"She would not listen to reason," Yuki lamented as she dismissed her staff, turning to face her old friend. "Please, I mean you no harm. As I said, I am a time-traveler from an alternate history, here to stop this Holy Grail War from ever taking place..."
"T-time-traveler?" Kyon grunted. "I mean, that would be cool if it was true, but can you prove it?"
"...John Smith, that is your cue." A holo-screen suddenly appeared, showing a slightly fuzzy image of an older Kyon wearing a dark uniform.
"Wait, that's me?!" Kyon gasped in shock.
"Yeah, it's me," the older Kyon nodded. "I know it's hard to believe, but Nagato-san is telling the truth..."
"Oh, yeah? How do I know this isn't just an illusion that she conjured?" young Kyon challenged.
"Three years ago, during Tanabata, you helped a girl from East Junior High School draw patterns on the ground, to try and contact alien life-forms," older Kyon stated confidently.
"Nani?! How-?! I never told anyone about that!" Kyon gasped. "Not even Nagato...!"
"Exactly. The only one who would have knowledge of that... is you." The older Kyon gave a knowing smile. "Now do you believe us?"
"Yare, yare..." Kyon grunted as he sat down on the curb. "No way... I become a time-traveler? Me?!"
"Well, technically, I'm just technical support. No pun intended," the older Kyon put a hand behind his head. "The only one of us who can actually rayshift besides the servants is Ritsuka Fujimaru-san, for a bunch of reasons I won't bore you with..."
"Correct," Yuki nodded. "I have modified my body to imitate a Caster-class vessel, so that I could also rayshift without issue. And speaking of Fujimaru-san... here he comes." She turned as the Master in question jogged up, Mash at his side and the other servants following behind. "Has Assassin been dealt with?"
"Yep! We slaughtered 'em all!" Mordred confirmed with a fanged grin. "No sweat!"
"It seems you eliminated the last one," Dantes observed. "So, five servants left. Or I should say four..."
"Yeah, don't lump me in! I'm on your side, remember?!" Cu Chulainn protested.
"As am I. Greetings, Kyon-kun," Koizumi nodded at Kyon.
"Wait, Koizumi?! You're with these guys?!" Kyon gasped.
"It's alright, we're all friends here," the Kyouoen student assured him. "Although I do wish to avenge my loss to you in Chinese checkers..."
"Well, if that's the only thing you hold a grudge over, I guess I'm safe from Lancer skewering me," Kyon snarked as he stood up, putting his hands in his pockets. "Um, anyway, is there anyplace else we can talk? My parents might see us from here and call the police or something..."
"No problem! Gate Open!" Ishtar intoned, a golden portal materializing. "Nagato, I grant you permission to pick the exit point."
"Understood," Yuki nodded, walking up the portal and waving a hand over it. "Done. Please follow me." She then walked though the portal, Kyon reluctantly following her, the others coming behind him...
*Apartment Building- Roof*
"Where's this at?" Kyon looked around as they exited.
"This is the apartment building where I live, or rather, my other self," Nagato answered.
"You seem to be taking this rather well, Kyon-san," Medusa observed.
"Yeah, well, after seeing what the other servants can do, one that can think up transport portals isn't too far a stretch," Kyon shrugged. "I mean, yeah, I'm a bit weirded out, but if Future Me is with you guys..."
"Trust me, Me, you haven't seen how crazy some of the servants back here can be," the elder Kyon sighed over the comm-link.
"I'll take your word for it," young Kyon muttered. "Alright, so what's going on, and where do I fit in? I'm not even a Master or anything..." So Yuki and the others explained the situation... "Wait, wait, wait a minute! Are you saying if this singularity or whatever is corrected, we'll all cease to exist?!"
"Inaccurate," Yuki shook her head. "All of you exist in the proper history... it will simply be as if this Holy Grail War never occurred."
"...Oh. Okay, that makes me feel a little better. So, I'll just forget everything that happened, then?"
"Yeah, but since I'm observing this mission, I won't forget," older Kyon stated. "Anyway, where you come in is... well, we need your help to put a stop to Haruhi's Saber servant."
"Saber? Yeah, she creeps me out, even though Haruhi ordered her not to lay a finger on me..." young Kyon shuddered.
"I know what you mean," Mordred nodded. "She's an evil, twisted image of my father, King Arthur!"
"King Arthur?!" Kyon whirled to face the blonde. "Then, you're...?!"
"Mordred Pendragon, Knight of Treachery," she introduced herself with a grim nod. "Just so we're clear, my real father and I have buried the hatchet, okay?"
"Oh... uh, well, that's nice," Kyon nodded back. Turning to Ritsuka, he said, "You're sure you can trust her?"
"Did you call me a girl?!" Mordred shouted, Dantes grabbing her arm and holding her back. "Leggo! He needs to get smacked!"
"Women were not considered worthy of being warriors in Mordred's time," Yuki explained. "Be more careful in your choice of pronouns with Mordred."
"Uh, right..." Kyon backed away from the blonde.
"Mordred, stop it. Don't make me use a command spell," Ritsuka ordered. "We've got more important things to worry about..." At this, Mordred relaxed a little, turning away and crossing her arms in a huff. "Sorry about that. Anyway, as Saber is now, we're gonna have a tough time beating her, because Suzumiya is smart enough to run if we gang up on her..."
"Also, Suzumiya-san has deep reserves of mana power, though she is not aware of this fact," Yuki added. "Therefore, the most effective way to defeat Saber is to sever the contract between Master and servant, which we can accomplish with this," she held up Rule Breaker.
"Wait, isn't that your Caster's weapon?" Kyon asked. "Uh, I mean, the other you..."
"Yes. We managed to ambush and defeat Caster while investigating North High," Yuki expounded. "This is to my other self's benefit, as she clearly does not possess the fortitude necessary for a Holy Grail War..."
"...can't disagree with that," Kyon admitted. "...wait, so you want me to stab Haruhi with this blade?!"
"It merely has to pierce the skin," Yuki assured him. "The arm or shoulder would suffice... we ask this of you because you are the only one who could get close enough to Suzumiya-san without arousing suspicion..."
"But, what about Koizumi-san?!" Kyon countered.
"I'm afraid not, Kyon-kun," Koizumi shook his head. "Suzumiya-san considers me a stalker as it is..."
"..." Kyon looking down at the ground, biting his lip... "...okay, I'm in. But only as long as my Nagato stays out of trouble."
"Agreed," Yuki nodded. "It should not be a problem, now that her servant has been dealt with..."
"Right, so let's brainstorm how we're gonna do this," Ritsuka said. "It's getting kinda late, so we'll have to execute our plan tomorrow..."
"So where are we gonna crash for the night?" Mordred asked.
"Could we not stay in Koizumi's apartment?" Medusa suggested.
"Ah... it might be a little cramped, but it's alright with me," Koizumi agreed.
"Right, well, let's hurry up and brainstorm, so I can get back home before my parents and sister get worried..." Kyon stated.
And so the party huddled together to discuss tactics...
*To be continued...*
Right here seems a good place to stop for now. As always, review!
