I do not own Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games characters.
Sorry that it has been so long. I have not had much time lately because I have had to do a lot of studying for school. Anyways, I hope that you all enjoy this chapter.
One morning as I was rushing to get ready so I could walk to meet Cato, my phone pinged. Throwing on one of my leather jackets, I check my phone. When I read the message, my heart nearly jumps out of my chest. Rushing out of my room, I grab my backpack and run down the stairs as fast as I can. My brothers are already out the door when I reach the bottom steps. Cato's car is sitting in front of my house. Andrew and Mark are already at the car, and Rider and Jackson aren't far behind. Mark is yelling at Cato and Jackson looks like he is about to break the window.
Running towards his car, I see that Cato has his sunroof open, so a few paces before the car, I launch myself forward and slip through the sunroof. I scratch my side, but I don't care. I land awkwardly in the passenger seat.
"Drive," I say quickly.
Cato doesn't need to be told twice. He steps on the gas, peeling away from the curb and down the street. I look behind and see my brothers chasing after that car, but Cato doesn't stop until we turn into a busy street where my brothers won't be able to follow us. It is then that I realize that Marvel is sitting in the passenger seat, and I am sitting on top of him. I scramble into the backseat, murmuring a hasty apology. Both Cato and Marvel laugh.
"Who were those crazy guys?" Marvel asks.
"My brothers," I sigh exasperatedly. "Sorry about them. They are crazy."
"Yeah, just a little," Cato says.
We drive for a while in silence. When we pass the entrance to my school, I am surprised when we don't turn. We drive past Cato and Marvel's as well.
"Are we skipping today?" I ask curiously.
"Why, are you not down with that?" Marvel says.
"Heck yeah!" I reply happily.
I have been wanting to ditch for a while now, but Glimmer is dead set on "reforming" me, as she likes to call it. As much as I love Glimmer, for quite a while now she has only seen me as everyone else does. As a criminal, as the girl on the outside. Maybe that is why I say yes because Marvel and Cato don't see me like that. Marvel has been to jail himself and Cato, as much as everyone apparently likes to bash him, is actually a pretty great guy.
We drive further and further out of town until it is just our car going down a long, single-lane road. Suddenly, I am struck by an urge. I unbuckle my seat belt and slip through the sunroof. I pull myself up and sit down on the roof of the car. The wind is warm against me, my fair flying behind me. We aren't going to much over thirty, but it feels like we are driving down a highway. I feel one of Cato's hands wrap softly around me ankle.
"What are you thinking?" He asks.
"I'm thinking that I wanted to do something fun!"
"Like what?"
"I don't know!" I lean backwards, laying down on the roof of the car. I sit back up and see a sign for a corn maze on the side of the road. I slide back into the car, sitting on the main console.
"There!" I point at the corn maze.
Marvel and Cato laugh but none-the-less, Cato pulls into the lot. It is mostly empty, being that it is almost nine o'clock on a school day. I climb out the roof and slide down the side of the car. Cato and Marvel get out of the car, both of them staring incredulous at me. I say nothing and just walk towards the entrance of the maze. A grumpy woman stands at the front of the maze at a booth.
"That'll be five dollars each." I realize now that I have no money, and Cato pays for me. Just as we are about to go in, someone calls Marvel and he gestures for us to go in. I run into the maze, Cato following close behind. We turn left, then right, then left, and before I know it we are lost in the maze. I laugh and Cato laughs and I feel so free. We reach the middle of the maze and for some reason, I grab him by his shirt and bring his lips to mine. I kiss him hard, loving the taste of his soft lips against mine. After a few seconds, Cato pushes me away.
"What are you doing?" He asks.
And to be honest, I don't know.
I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. What do you think of the fact that Clove just kisses Cato out of the blue? Please feel free to PM me any thoughts that you have on this story and chapter, I would love to hear it.
