Chapter 9 Sicilian Mafia Encounters

A.N. – First, let me say this is not meant to be stereotypical of Sicily. I said last chapter this was going to be based from The Godfather. If you watched the movie, you would know that the Corleone's are a Sicilian crime family. Second, there will be the last Volcano Replica supercomputer next chapter with the return of an enemy that was last seen in Ending the Threats. Let's begin!

James Marshall – I guess I can squeeze him in there.

Short Summary – The Lyoko Warriors travel to the island of Sicily. When they are there, they encounter the local Mafia who offers help in the safe return of their leader. However, the security program plans to use the Mafia to his advantage.

Disclaimer – I do not own Code Lyoko. I am just a fan of the show.

Italy Base

The resistance has set up a base in Italy. The set up a base here for a set up to cross over to Sicily. They are able to look at the island in the distance but cannot see if something is there waiting for them. They believe that the security program and William have recovered from the Roman Colosseum fiasco that failed. The one question is who they would encounter?

"The ferry should take you to the coast. From there, the mission is on you" Jeremy says walking with Aelita to the coast.

"How long is the ride?" Aelita asks.

"About half an hour. You should be in Sicily in no time."

"What's the plan from here?"

"We need to set up a resistance in Spain. So, you take Sicily, cross the Mediterranean, and enter Spain."

"That seems pretty hopeful."

"Yeah, but if we have something in Spain, we can have forces coming from the south when we enter France. I want to have an attack from all angles so the security program can't outflank us anyway. Push back all forces to Paris then destroy him."

"We'll have to come back here eventually."

"Yeah, I'll stay her and then we'll move back North to retake the rest of Europe."

"What about island nations North of France?"

"Some of our forces said they don't need our help. I hope they are alright."

"I'm surprised at that."

"Most island nations don't have any security program presence there."

The rest of the Lyoko Warriors joined them and all of them, except Jeremy, boarded a ferry to head to Sicily.

Sicilian Coast

Within a half an hour, the Lyoko Warriors were in Sicily. There was nothing there waiting for them. They decided to explore it further. They were far from the capitol Palermo. It would take a few days to get there, but have a nice coast view the whole time. Jeremy was able to program their vehicles. They boarded and headed off to the capitol.

"So, where is this capitol located?" Odd asked.

"In wine country" Aelita responded.

"Are you sure we should go there?"

"Why are you concerned?" Ulrich asked.

"Wine country is kind of the heart of the Mafia. They live and control that area of Sicily. I think we should stay clear of that."

"We have to go there to free the country" Aelita said.

"If any Mafia guys get in our way, we'll take care of them" Yumi added.

"That would be the worst idea ever. Go against any family and they'll be a hit out on you before the day is done" Odd responded.

"I don't think we have a choice Odd. We are going to wine country" Ulrich said.

"I just hope we don't encounter the Mafia."

Little did they know, the Mafia needed their help more than anything.

Three Days Later, Wine Country

It's been a few days and it has been very quiet. There have been no signs of the Mafia or the security program. They were beginning to wonder if there was any trouble in Sicily.

"I think we should leave" Odd said more concerned than before.

"We're almost to the capitol" Aelita said.

"This is not a safe place" Odd said, not wanting to encounter the Mafia.

Suddenly a barrage of bullets came from the ground and the warriors all fell from their vehicles on the ground. They were quickly surrounded with men pointing guns at them and shouting in Italian.

"Congelare! Non ti muovere!" the men were shouting.

The Lyoko Warriors all put their hands up in surrender.

"Do you know what they are saying Odd?" Ulrich asked.

"Yeah, to freeze and not to move" Odd responded.

Suddenly a man came out. "Metti giù le pistole!" he said. The men put their guns down. "Sorry for the acts of my men. Ever since the don was captured, we don't see anyone as an ally."

"Trust me. We get that a lot" Aelita responded.

"What are you doing here?"

"We are here to free Sicily. We didn't expect to see anyone. I guess you guys are the Mafia."

"More of a conjoined Mafia. We were all separated families but came to an agreement to be one and fight the security program. Our don lead an attack on Palermo, but he didn't come back and a nearly dead man came back and said he was captured and everyone else was dead. That was five months ago."

"So, there is a chance he may not be alive" Yumi said.

"Yes, but considering what happened, we can't go check on him or we'll end up dead as well."

"The security program probably kept him alive. He is a threat, but not a monster" Aelita said.

"Is there a reason?"

"To lure you there. If he wants to eliminate a group of people, he'll keep a key figure alive in an attempt to lure you into a trap."

"So, he is alive?"

"Yes, or barely clinging onto life. We saw people die in front of us. It's not a pleasant sight."

"How long would he stay alive?"

"As long as life lets him. The security program doesn't torture. He lets you die. And if you are no longer useful to him, he executes you."

"Aelita, are you sure it's the right idea to get these guys angry?' Ulrich asked.

"I'm not. Just telling truth. Who knows how many people died in Paris due to his executions? Yumi saw the street lined with bodies. And that was just an example."

"We can make a deal" the man said.

"What kind of a deal?"

"A rare deal. A deal where the Mafia will be in debt to you instead of the other way around."

"What's this deal?"

"It's dumb, but your tough. Go to Palermo and get the don. If he is alive, bring him to us. If he is barely alive, try to keep him alive till you get back. If he is dead, bring back the body. We want closure or our leader back."

"It will be done."

The Lyoko Warriors boarded their vehicles and headed to the capitol.

Palermo

The Lyoko Warriors arrived in the capitol and though of where to go.

"If anything, the palace is where he will be kept" Aelita said.

"Then that's our destination" Odd said.

"Odd, are you okay doing a deal with the Mafia?" Yumi asked.

"They are a shady group, but they do make promises and they keep them. We can trust them."

As they headed towards the palace, they didn't see any monsters that caused the problems the Mafia encountered. They landed at the entrance and headed inside.

Inside the Palace

They found another gold shining palace and tried to find where the don was being held. They headed to the main room. As they entered, they saw the don still alive and very well.

"I guess you're the don" Aelita said.

"I am and my family is not coming. Are you here to kill me?" the don said.

"No, we are here to rescue you. Your followers want you back."

"They are still alive."

"Yes, but didn't know if you were."

"He kept me alive but what he did when we arrived was worse. I don't think he wanted to kill all of them."

"What did he want?"

Suddenly they were surrounded by the don's army he lead into Palermo five months ago.

"He wanted them for himself."

"What did he do to them?"

"Convinced them to join him. Promised more for their family if they joined. They turned and greed overtook them. My right-hand man was shot at, but I believe he told the rest."

"He did. That's how we know."

William showed up.

"I didn't think you would ever come into the Mafia territory" William said.

"I didn't think you took an interest in the Mafia" Odd said.

"They are a strong force for a Sicily resistance. I couldn't pass the opportunity. Now hand over the don."

"He's coming back with us!" Aelita said.

The Mafia rose their guns.

"One last chance. Hand…him…over."

"Not happening."

They fired.

"Shield!" Odd said as he shielded them from the bullets.

Aelita went to the side of a shield. "Energy field!" she said as she fired taking out a couple of the Mafia.

Odd, the don, and the warriors backed up.

"Hope you don't mind, but your men have to die" Yumi said.

"You betray the family; you are not my men anymore. Kill them all!" the don said.

Yumi quickly popped up and threw her fans and they sliced the chest of four of them and they fell. Odd popped up and fired laser arrows striking a few in the chest and them falling.

"Go! Charge in there!" William said. The remaining Mafia members entered the room and took cover. "Get the don! Kill him if you have too!"

The mafia began to fire at the warriors and now since they were hiding it was harder to get a hit.

"Aelita, combo hit. You ready?" Yumi said.

"Yeah" Aelita responded.

Yumi used her telekinesis to raise the cover of one of the Mafia members. When he was distracted by the floating object, Aelita fired an energy orb at him, killing him. At the same time Yumi was shot in the arm. Yumi fell and cried in pain.

"Yumi!" Ulrich said.

"Never been shot before" Yumi said.

"It's not fatal. This may hurt" Aelita said using the heat from her energy orbs to cauterize the wound.

Yumi winced in pain as Aelita treated the wound. The boys continued to fight the Mafia. The do opened the desk and found a pistol. He fired a shot and killed a member. The boys looked to him in shock.

"I may be the don, but that doesn't mean I can't fight" he said.

Aelita finished patching up Yumi. "There" Aelita said. "It should hold till we get back."

"I have a doctor back home that can look at her."

"Okay, let's finish up here."

Yumi threw a fan with her one good arm and Aelita threw the other and an energy orb.

A few more shots and the Mafia fell. Ulrich rushed William and knocked him down.

"Any last words?" Ulrich asked pointing his sword at him.

"You win today, but this isn't over. My master has a surprise for you" William said kicking the sword out of Ulrich's arm and grabbing it. "And you don't need him." He threw the sword at the don and it struck him in the chest. "Bye bye. Super smoke!" William disappeared from the palace.

They rushed over to the don. Ulrich grabbed his sword.

"Stop! Don't remove it or he'll die. We got to get him back. The sword is the only thing keeping him alive" Aelita said.

The Lyoko Warriors picked up the don and left the place that was now covered in bullet holes and coated in blood.

Mafia Base

The Lyoko Warriors returned to where the Mafia was waiting for them. They landed and carefully removed the don.

"We found him alive, but William tried to take his life and we remove the sword, he will die" Aelita said.

They all rushed over to their fallen leader.

"What do we do?" the main Mafia man said.

"I though I would never see you guys again. Listen" he said placing his arm on the main one. "Lead these men to victory. I am handing off the position of the don to you. Do me well. Remove the sword."

Ulrich slowly removed the sword covered in blood and when it was fully removed the don groaned one last time and passed away.

"We owe you now" the new don said.

"And you lead the family" Aelita responded.

"What do you need?"

Suddenly Jeremy contacted Aelita.

"Hold that thought. Jeremy, what is it?"

"Aelita, the volcano in Sicily is acting up. I think there is a supercomputer there. You have to investigate it" Jeremy said.

"Okay. We need your help."

"With?"

"We need you to get us to the volcano here in Sicily and get us a way out of here. A way to cross the Mediterranean."

A.N. – So Aelita is now using the Mafia to her advantage. There were some Godfather references here. Again, will not make sense if you have not watched the movie. And this is not stereotypical of Sicily. It may be a nice place. I never been there. Again, my knowledge came from watching The Godfather and that's where my knowledge on the Mafia and Sicily came from. So, don't be overly critical on my knowledge of modern-day Sicily. The two Italian phrases are 'Freeze! Don't move!' and 'Put you guns down!'. I wanted to be a little more authentic this chapter. PM me with story ideas if you have any!
