UPDATE: as I was writing this, the attack on the white house was happening. seriously. Why do I have to fucking LIVE in such a place as America?! America is trash, don't even TRY to deny it. The worst part is that the police didn't bring HALF the weaponry they did for the BLM protests. The BLM movement had to turn to riots because NOBODY FUCKING LISTENED. But as SOON as some white Trump stans storm the fucking WHITE HOUSE, NOBODY GIVES A FLYING SHIT. The systematic racism in America has always been present, but it's NOT FUCKING GETTING FIXED. IF YOU LIVE IN AMERICA, SPEAK THE FUCK UP BECAUSE WE ARE DONE. America will literally collapse if we don't fix these problems. Even if you don't live in America, you can still help. Spread the word. Educate. Donate. Sign petitions. Please speak up.
Thank you for reading my fucking rant. Now enjoy.
The parting day of the Hogwarts students had arrived. James was almost crying (from happiness) while Felix consoled him.
"Don't cry, Jay, it's fine."
"Lix, I won't be able to flirt with you in these walls anymore!"
"Whose fault is that, then?"
"True, but still..."
"We'll have much more of our life together, Jay. How about we just... I dunno, see each other over the summer?"
"Y-you mean it?"
"Duh."
Rose and Ash giggled.
"Yo," Ash commented, "bet they won't go a week without each other."
Rose laughed. "You're that faithless in them?"
"Yeah!"
"Well, then I'm even more faithless. I say three days."
The four roared with laughter right as Scorpius and Albus joined them.
"Hi guys, what's so funny?"
Through tears of laughter, Ash said, "I said th-that James and Felix couldn't go a week without each other. Rose... Rose," they laughed here, "she called me faithless. She bet on three days and called herself more faithless!"
The two younger boys laughed. "I'll bet five days," Albus snickered.
"One," Scorpius exclaimed. "I say one day!"
"Oh, come on, Scorpion!" James whined. "Knew you'd be as faithless as these other arseholes but I didn't reckon you'd be this faithless in me!"
HOGWARTS EXPRESS
The two newly dating Albus and Scorpius sat in a compartment together with James and Felix. Rose and Ash hadn't joined the four, because according to them, the two "couldn't handle the constant flirting and would rather gush about dragons and stuff," apparently.
"Ah... I'm tired. Mind if I sleep here?" James yawned, leaning on Felix' shoulder, who laughed.
"You're always tired, babe." James was already asleep.
The trolley witch passed by. She was still quite annoyed from last year's events, but she had gotten over it.
"Anything from the trolley, dears?" she asked.
"Oh, sure. A few Pumpkin Pasties, Pepper Imps, Chocolate Frogs, and Cauldron Cakes, please!" Albus said. "Sorry again about last year, ma'am."
"Oh, it's quite alright, dear. Here you four are," she said, handing the candies to the boys. Scorpius reached for his money, but Albus was faster.
"Oh, come on, Al..."
"Hey, my family heritage is nearly as rich as yours, Scorp."
"Exactly. Nearly as rich. Not quite as rich."
"Reckon I'm still better looking."
Scorpius rolled his eyes dramatically, scoffing.
"You two are quite... dramatic," Felix commented softly.
"Well, yeah," Albus said. "Been best friends since first year."
Scorpius looked over, face tense. "Do we..." he whispered.
"I dunno," Al replied, also whispering.
"Do you wanna..."
"Not without James, certainly not without Rose and Ash."
"What are you two talking about? Rose and I were mentioned," Ash's deep voice said. The wix was leaning against the door of the compartment. Their right foot was crossed over their left, the tip of their toes tapping (but due to the combat boots they were, it was kind of loud). They crossed their arms and raised their eyebrows, with their mouth curving up into some kind of mix between a smile and a smirk.
"O-oh, hi Ash. It's nothing, really," Scorpius replied, smiling.
"Right then. Rose, hurry up! I told you I wanted to introduce you to Gray!"
"Alright, fine, Ash. I'm changing back into my Muggle clothes!"
"They're more comfortable. How do you take so long?"
"I'm not used to Muggle clothing!"
"I don't care, hurry up, arsehole! You won't be able to meet faer! Fae are in seventh year, and I won't get to see faer again!"
"Oh my God, Ash, I'm done!"
"Get over here!" Ash left, still yelling at Rose, who was a few compartments down.
Scorpius turned back, confused. "Are they always like this?"
Felix laughed. "Definitely. This happens on a regular basis, Scorpius. Don't think too much of it."
"Um, okay then. Who is Gray?"
Neither (awake) boys knew the answer to that.
"I'm assuming, since fae use fae/faer pronouns, Ash knows Gray through being... nonbinary? Probably?"
"There's a third dorm for gender non-conforming students who are mainly under the nonbinary umbrella term," Ash called.
"How did they hear us?" Felix whispered.
"I don't know," Albus replied.
"I HEAR FUCKING EVERYTHING!"
"No swearing on the Hogwarts Express!"
Everybody who heard started laughing. After the laughter died down, Felix fell asleep as well (although it took a little longer than James). Scorpius and Albus were the only two awake in the compartment.
"W-well... what do you want to talk about, Al?"
"I dunno. Just talk about anything you wanna talk about. I love it when you do that."
Scorpius laughed softly. "I don't know anything to talk about right now."
"Since when does that happen?"
Both boys giggled.
"You know what?" Albus murmured.
"Hmm?"
"We don't need to talk at all."
Albus wrapped his arms around Scorpius and kissed him lightly. Scorpius smiled in the kiss.
"You're absolutely right, Al," he murmured before kissing his boyfriend back. They kissed silently for a while and it seemed that the whole train was quiet and at rest. Guess what, it was.
"Whatcha doing?" Felix asked.
The boys jumped (Scorpius even yelped) and looked over at the older boy, who was smiling; his dimples deep indents in his cheeks.
"U-um..." Al stuttered.
"Y'know what, why'd I even ask that? It's so obvious," Felix sighed, rolling his eyes.
"What's all the commotion about?" James murmured and rubbed his eyes, his hair ruffled.
"A-ah... um..." Scorpius tried to start.
"Hmmm? Can't hear ya."
"Don't bother them, Jay."
"I'm not even that tired, Lix. I couldn't get mad at them. I'd be a hypocrite if I did, I mean..."
The younger two were speechless.
"James, what the fuck-"
"Sickle in the jar!"
Albus scoffed. "Fine, Scor." He took a silver Sickle and put into a jar that Scorpius had conjured out of nowhere. "Anyway, James, what are you talking about?"
James looked confused. "I'm talking about the two of you, duh."
"How did you know?" Scorpius asked.
"Uh... Ash told me. Well, and Rose, I think. Didn't you tell them?"
Both boys shook their heads no. "We didn't see anybody else at all."
"Yeah, all we saw was that..."
The boys looked at each other, the pieces fitting together.
"Eagle," they said at the same time, jumping up.
"Ash, you little-!" Albus yelled.
"What's this about me?"
"You were that damn eagle!"
"Knut in the-"
"Yeah yeah, I'll do that later. Come on, Scor, gotta kill a wix today!"
The boys followed Ash, who was laughing their arse off.
PLATFORM 9 ¾
"Well... here we are," Scorpius shrugged.
"What a year, huh?" Albus said.
"Not as crazy as last year, though."
"Definitely not."
"One last kiss? Neither of our parents are around."
"Um..."
Albus pecked Scorpius on the cheek and smiled. "Guess I'll see you in a week or so?"
"Ha! Betcha it's not going to be even a week, Al!"
Both boys giggled. The Malfoys and Potters arrived at practically the same time (somehow).
"Hello, Albus? Saying goodbye to Scorpius, hm?" Harry asked.
Albus nodded. "Yeah, Dad."
"Come, Scorpius. Let's... let's go home. There's... something I want to show you," Draco said, in a soft tone, with the ghost of a smile upon his face.
"Yes, Father," Scorpius replied. "Bye, Albus."
"Yeah. Bye."
With that, Scorpius walked away, shooting one more loving glance before turning to catch up with his father. Albus didn't want to leave Scorpius, especially when they had just gotten together, but he had to. He turned to his family with a small smile.
"We should go home too, Al. James just graduated!"
"Yeah. Where is he?"
Ginny came up and shrugged. "That boy could be anywhere. He's an adult now, so he can pretty much do whatever he wants to, I guess. I'm going to see if I can find him. You three can head home."
"Uh... Gin-"
"Don't argue with her, Dad. We all know how that goes," James commented, appearing out of nowhere.
"Ah, there you are! Come now, let's go-"
James Disapparated with a grin, causing Ginny to sigh. "Guess I'll have to do this the hard way." She Disapparated as well with a POP.
"Well, probably best to listen to your mother. Let's get going," Harry said.
The three made their way to the Muggle car Harry had bought a while back. Both parents knew how to drive, but it took Harry a long time before he understood how to drive.
"I imagine Gin and James will either Apparate or Floo home. Get in, now."
Lily jumped into the backseat, knowing that she definitely wasn't going to get shotgun with Albus around (who did, in fact, get shotgun for those who are wondering). The three drove home. Lily started talking with her father and they started a lengthy conversation. Albus stared out the window, thinking of Scorpius (among other things, too, but mainly Scorpius).
"Al, everything alright?" Harry said, noticing his son's quietness.
"Oh... yeah. I'm okay."
Lily snickered. "I hear Albus has a-"
"Shut up, Lily!"
"He-"
"Don't, Lily."
Lily looked surprised at Albus' tone. "O...kay, uh... sure. Sorry."
Harry rolled his eyes and asked, "Something you aren't telling me, you two?"
"No," the two children said simultaneously.
The car was quiet for the rest of the ride home. When they got home, Harry helped his kids get their trunks up to their rooms so they could unpack later. Albus knew he probably wasn't going to bother. He instantly flopped on his bed and was thinking, thinking, thinking. Scorpius hadn't even been gone half an hour and Albus already missed him.
The sound of the loud front door was heard, along with his mom shouting "We're back!"
"Moooom..."
"James, you-... I'll deal with you later. I'm going to go see Albus."
At the mention of his name, Albus sat up and his mom came up to his room.
"Hi, Al!" she said. "How are you doing?"
Albus shrugged. "Pretty good. I already miss my friends."
Ginny laughed. "Everybody feels the same way. That happened to me, too."
"Yeah. What happened with James?"
His mom sighed, exasperated. "Didn't want to leave his... uh, friend."
"Who? Leo?"
"No, not Leo, the-the other one..."
"Oh, Felix," Albus murmured. "Uh, Mum-"
"Wait, you know?"
"'Bout Felix and James? Yeah."
Ginny blinked, surprised. "Oh."
Then, it hit Albus. "How'd you know?"
She laughed. "Ah... moms know everything, Albus. They didn't even have to do anything. James just looked at that boy and I just knew."
"Scorpius told me it's magic. That mums know everything, or something."
"Then Scorpius is correct, it is magic," Ginny said, smiling warmly. "After all, love magic is what saved your father from death all those years ago."
"Really?"
"Yep. Now, I really should be going. Got to lecture James." She swept out of the room, leaving Albus alone.
He wasn't really sure what to do now. Should he write a letter to Scorpius? He could ask James to Apparate him to Malfoy Manor... actually, that wasn't a bad idea. James would be visiting Felix in Diagon Alley soon, anyway.
"Maybe Scorp is right," he laughed to himself. "Maybe it will only be one day. Maybe not even that."
"Huh?" Lily piped up, poking her head into his room.
"Aah! Lily, what the hell?"
"Sorry," she giggled, "didn't know you'd be that startled."
"Ugh, fine. What are you doing?"
"I, uh... I was going to take a shower and then I passed your room and heard you. What were you talking about?"
"Um..."
"How much time before you go running back to Scorpius?" she laughed, smirking.
"Lily, be quieter! I don't want anyone to hear."
"Everybody knows except Dad."
"Exactly. Just... please come inside, will you?"
With a sigh, she came in and sat down. "So..."
"I was just thinking about this bet I made with Scorp, Rose, and Ash. We all bet on how long James and Felix would go without seeing each other. Ash bet a week, I bet five days, Ash bet three days, and Scorpius bet one day."
Lily laughed again. "Well, from how James has been acting, I'd guess Scorpius is close. I say two days."
"You're entering the bet, I see? Tough competition."
"Ha. The rest of you are gonna lose big-time, I reckon."
"Well, we'll see then."
As it turned out, Lily won and got one Galleon from everybody. Ash's, Scorpius', Felix's, and Rose's came in the letters they sent the three siblings.
"Told you guys!"
"Aw come on, Lils! Can't I have my Galleon back? I wasn't even in the bet!" James complained.
"You're what we were betting on, so you definitely count, James," Lily mocked.
"What's all this?" Harry shouted as he came into the living room.
"I won a bet, Dad. James is just whining about it," she sassed.
"I didn't even enter that bet!"
"We were betting on you, Jamie. You count just as much. Stop being such a crybaby about it."
Harry sighed. "Lily, what did I tell you-"
"Yeah, yeah, about calling people names," Lily drawled.
Albus decided he was just going to leave the room. He was already in the hallway when Harry called, "Not so fast, Albus," after him.
Maybe if I'm totally quiet, I can sneak to my room and he'll think he imagined it or something, Albus thought. He tiptoed down the hall, heading towards his room. His dad didn't follow, so Albus assumed he was safe and entered his room.
"Albus, I want to talk to you!" his dad shouted.
Albus huffed and yelled back, "Sure Dad, I'm in my room."
He tensed after a moment. The words "I want to talk to you" weren't usually good, especially for kids in the closet (or kids hiding something big in general). Albus was worried now. What if his dad had found out about him and Scorpius? No, wait, that couldn't have happened. They'd gotten together not even 24 hours ago and nobody knew except James, Felix, Rose, and Ash. Lily didn't officially know, but she was perceptive and he admitted that she'd figure it out sooner or later, if she hadn't already.
His dad, according to Rose, was "whom a pen is more observant than he is," so he figured that the only way he'd ever find out is if Albus told him or he caught the two of them kissing or something.
Or something, he thought, dazed. When he realized the images he was imagining, he shook himself out of it, blushing.
And that's when his dad had to come in.
MALFOY MANOR
Draco and Scorpius appeared in front of Malfoy Manor (from Apparating). The father led his son inside the manor, one arm wrapped around his shoulders.
"So, what did you want to show me?" Scorpius asked as they stepped into the manor.
Draco sighed. "Just wait for a moment, Scorpius."
"...Sure, Dad," Scorpius said slowly.
Draco walked out of the room and was gone for about ten minutes before coming back with a strange object and handing it to his son.
"What is it?" Scorpius wondered, examining it carefully. It looked oddly similar to a Time-Turner, but instead of a flat circle with an hourglass in it, there was a clear glass ball with silver streaks all over it. There was a silvery-blue substance in the middle of the ball and it filled just about half of it. It also had wings, much like a Snitch, but they were smaller and it had six instead of two.
"This is a Flight Pendant. It's similar to a Time-Turner, but instead of sending you back in time, it transports you instantly to any location. All you have to do is turn the ball around while you whisper the incantation Volantes Sermo, which literally translates to 'flying word.'"
"I'm surprised you're trusting me with this after what happened with that Time-Turner, Dad. I could go to Albus', Hogwarts, England... hell, I could go to America!"
"The farther away you go, the riskier, Scorpius," Draco warned. "Traveling too far in one turn could seriously injure you. My mother had this, and her father nearly got transported into what he could only describe as a state of limbo."
Scorpius shuddered. "Yes, Father." He paused. "Why did you want me to have this?"
Draco softened and he replied, smiling, "I'm pretty sure you know, son." Then, with a wink, he swept away to his office. Scorpius was left standing there, speechless.
"How..." he murmured. Shaking himself, he walked into his room and put the Flight Pendant carefully in a cigar box he'd found and painted himself a few years back. He'd never put anything in it before.
Scorpius decided to tally how many days he could go before temptation would take over and he would use the Flight Pendant to go see Albus. Or... or do something else, possibly, but most likely go see Albus. He took a spare piece of paper and stuck it on the magnetic writing board he had in his room. He looked at the clock and was wondering whether to mark a tally on the paper, then decided that today didn't really count.
This will switch between Albus and Scorpius quickly and these lines will make it sound odd. Just so you know and don't get confused.
Albus was exhausted and ready for bed. He slipped his jeans and shirt off and changed into a random pair of shorts. He collapsed onto his bed, turning off his nightstand lamp and closing his eyes. He fell asleep almost instantly.
Scorpius ran a hand through his platinum blonde hair and sighed, staring at himself through the bathroom mirror. "Why am I so beautiful?" he murmured to himself. He had on a T-shirt and pajama pants, similar to what he had worn when he was at Hogwarts. It was different, though, because there was no ambient hum of magic (mixed with some Muggle technology), no hushed chatting or students shifting in their beds, and most of all, there was no Albus.
Albus woke up in the middle of the night after an awful nightmare, similar to the one he'd dreamed in Hogwarts not so long ago. Except this time, there was no Scorpius there to comfort him, and he stayed in that panicked state and knew he wasn't going back to sleep.
Scorpius was sound asleep and had no disturbances except that he woke up from a terribly odd sound in the middle of the night. It was a quiet sound that he could only describe as a short hiss with a bit of growl and choking mixed in. It sent a shiver down his spine and temporarily paralyzed him. His heart was racing from the adrenaline running through his veins, even though he lay totally still, like a statue that had toppled over. There was one footstep, and another, counting to two soft, padded footsteps with a bit of a clicking sound as if the feet had claws.
The noises then vanished and Scorpius didn't know there was a kind of pressure on him until it was gone. He breathed heavily and tried to go back to sleep, but the adrenaline had woken him up.
I'm not going to sleep the rest of tonight, am I?
A/N: yo i finally finished it lol
aight bye
