Chapter 17: Of Gods and Mortals
Noctis had told them of the fall of Insomnia, done by some place called the Empire. By the way he spoke it sounded like the fall of his homeland had hit him hard.
The transport slowed down. It felt like they were falling to the ground then it stopped all together.
"Well our little ride has ended, lady and gentlemen." The host announced. "I do hope your stay was pleasant. Best to get out now, your highness." He said this to Noctis. "You've got quite a to do list, if I do say so myself." His eyes went to Hikari. "Some advice, little dove...Best to leave the prince to his own tidings...Otherwise you might not live very long…"
This guy totally creeped her out. Something about him just seemed...Wrong. Hikari was thankful to get away from that guy; he left them and the others in a lush area in a downpour of rain.
"Oh this is just fantastic…" Max groaned.
"Oh a little rain won't kill ya." The guy with great muscles grunted out. "Not much of a hunter are you?"
"Can we just get out of the dang rain?!" Rain plus a white shirt around nothing but guys was NOT a position Hikari wanted to be in. She was just thankful for the trench she was now buttoning up to the neck. Thankfully the rain had listened and turned into a drizzle before disappearing all together. However, gray clouds above and lightning in the distance spoke of more water to come.
"Only the true king can quell the eye of the storm."
The jet black haired woman appeared before the large group, and it was only Noctis who recognized her.
"Gentiana?"
She smiled at the name then spoke of a task Noctis was supposed to fulfill. Something about the eye of the storm and the rain bearer or something. Hikari honestly didn't care right now. She was cold, wet, and very tired. All she wanted was a bed and a shower but it looked like those wouldn't happen for quite some time.
"This messenger gives greetings to those from another star." Gentiana's voice made Hikari look at the woman. She was now in front of Hikari's group, that smile still upon her face.
"Light of a different star surrounds the guests of Eos." Gentiana had an air about her, one of mystery and spirituality. "You have come at an auspicious time…"
It was Shin that approached her. That look of divinity was on his face again.
"We did not come to interfere, we came to find the Key." He told the woman who paused.
"Which key does the star god wish to obtain?" She spoke politely to Shin, seemingly to know his status in an instant.
"Hikari, come here." He said and Hikari slowly approached. "Give her your hand."
Completely confused, Hikari reached out towards the woman with closed eyes; their hands grasped one another and the woman instantly gasped.
"Child of light…" Those words fell from her lips like a silent prayer. "You are a most welcomed sight to our plagued star…" Her smile returned but it had a hint of sadness behind it. "That which you seek, the messenger does not know of…"
"Great…" Max groaned under his breath. "Now what do we do?"
"The messenger gives a request to the child of light and her companions." Throughout the whole conversation, Gentiana still had Hikari's hand grasped in her own. "It could very well lead to the answer of what you seek."
"What...Do you want us to do?" Hikari asked the woman.
Gentiana smiled.
"Go with the king, for as far as you are able…A child of light is a most valuable companion in a world of darkness. Do this, and the messenger is sure...That what you seek the gods shall give to you." She regarded Hikari again, this time like a mother would a child. "Be brave, little light...Though you are far from home, the light still shines within you...Do not let the darkness deceive you for you are strong of heart."
Like the breath of the wind she was gone.
The messenger left with many questions for both parties...However, one question was brought up by Prompto, who held great hesitance in his voice as he spoke to the three otherworldly companions.
"You're...NOT from Insomnia...Are you?"
