Episode 1-18 Solitudes

Episode Summary: When SG-1 gates home under enemy fire, Daniel and Teal'c get home to the SGC but Carter and O'Neill end up in a frozen cavern.

Carter didn't wake up again until the team was on the flight home. Daniel explained to her what happened. A second gate on earth. Holy Hannah. They had been on earth that whole time.

She felt like an idiot. It had never occurred to her to try a different address. She could have gotten the colonel home days sooner if she had just thought to try a different address. How could she be so stupid? She fell asleep silently berating herself and woke up to Teal'c this time, watching over her.

"It is very good to see you well Captain." He spoke quietly.

"Hey Teal'c." She greeted him. She licked her lips and he immediately held a cup with a straw up to her mouth. "Thanks." She whispered after taking a long sip.

"You have been asleep a very long time. We are already over your north American continent. We will be in Colorado in a few hours."

"Good." Carter nodded her head. "How's the colonel?" She asked.

"He will be well again. He has not fully woken, but he has spoken in his sleep. The surgeon in the Antarctic base reset his leg and examined his ribs and lung. He is suffering from hypothermia and exhaustion just as you are."

Carter nodded her head again as her eyes fluttered shut.

"Rest now Captain." Teal'c whispered and continued to sit vigil next to her.

The next time she woke up she recognized the walls of the SGC sublevels. She felt significantly better. She noted the IV in her arm and the heated blanket on her. The IV fluids were probably warmed as well. She wasn't in an observation room, but the main infirmary, which she felt boded well. She tried to sit up and fell back against the bed. Maybe she wasn't as strong as she thought. She fished out the bed remote and lifted her head that way.

At the sound of the bed motor Dr. Fraiser pushed aside the curtain and gave her a smile.

"It's about time." She greeted her friend.

Carter squinted at her. "How long has it been?"

"Since the last time I saw you, since you were rescued, or since you last woke up?"

"Any…all…" Carter continued.

"You were rescued 4 days ago. You've been here for 3. You've been in and out." As she spoke, the doctor took her pulse and listened to her lungs. "You have quite the collection of bumps and bruises. Do you remember how they happened?"

"I climbed…out of the crevasse. And I slid or maybe fell back down." Carter remembered.

"Okay. Well, we have you all fixed up. I'm gonna keep you here another 24 hours at least. You feel up to eating some solid food? It would do you a world of good."

"Yeah, sure" Carter agreed. "Doc, how's the colonel?"

"He's gonna be okay. He's woken up a few times himself. Enough to complain and whine. You did good Sam; you saved his life." Janet patted her hand and walked away, closing the curtain behind her.

Carter closed her eyes. She hadn't saved the colonel's life. She'd nearly killed him by missing the most obvious solution to getting out of there. Dial a different gate. Damn it. She would never forgive herself.
