"Howdy partners. How is everybody this fine morning?" Snipe asked the class as he stood at his desk. "Good? Good. Now we have an important matter to discuss. There is a rodeo coming up and I want you all to be rootin' and tootin' for it. The U.A. Sports rodeo is coming up." He spread his arms wide, waiting for the class to erupt in excitement, but all he got in response was a collection of confused stares. His arms dropped to his side, and he cleared his throat. "I mean, sports festival. This event is primarily for the hero class to show off their skills in order to get internships, but that doesn't mean you won't be able to have a hootin' and hollerin' good time! Even though you all are business students, everyone has to at least participate in whatever the first event is. Then you can feel free to come up with business strategies and play side games for the other events when you all get knocked out."
Izumi shot up from her seat, raising her hand high above her head. "Hey, wait! You are just going to count us out so fast?"
"Well, I mean, generally speaking, the hero course students tend to be really well prepared, so I mean no offense, little ma'am," he said with an apologetic dip of his hat. "There just hasn't been a single business student to make it past the first round before. There is no shame in that and I'm not counting you out. The hero students have just generally been trained to dominate the competition."
"Well, that's going to have to change. I mean, we can definitely beat a bunch of fuck-head jocks that want to be heroes. Logan, you have seen some of them right? Can we beat them?" Izumi turned to her friend.
"Uhhh," Logan stammered, taking a moment to think. "Some of them, probably, but I don't know if we could go head to head against some of the class members."
"No, we definitely can. I have faith in us as long as we work together." Izumi climbed up to stand on her desk, towering proudly over her baffled classmates. She pumped her fist in the air and shouted, "Lets go kick their mommy-fucking asses, class 1-K! We have got this! We will crush them!"
"First, Izumi, detention. Now listen, I admire your spunk kid and if you pull it off, then more power to you, but I wouldn't be setting your sights that high. Maybe just aim to get into the second round, perhaps. Also, I had assumed that you had at least watched the festivals before, but even though the classes all participate, you will be competing as individuals."
Etsuko raised her hand to grab the teacher's attention. "Yeah, the events are a gamble, but isn't it pretty much always a solo event, group event, then final tournament?"
"Yes, that is how the dice tends to roll, but these events just really ain't suited for the business type," Sniped reiterated. "They are physically focused. Now we all have a piece of crazy in us, but setting you aspirations so high with the odds against you might make yours bigger than some others."
"Well you said the second event is a group right?" Izumi asked, still standing on her desk. "What size group? Small groups or the whole class?"
"Small groups. Usually between three to four person groups depending on the event that gets chosen," Etsuko explained.
Izumi flashed a victorious grin. "Well then, we have a group of four. We might be at a disadvantage in power and strength… and speed… and also probably experience, but you know what we have that they don't?" She held a dramatic pause, giving her classmates a second to guess. "We are business students. We know how to brown nose people. We are all fake as fuck and can work together like a well oiled machine completely setting aside feelings to accomplish a goal. I mean having teamwork down is like the biggest part of being a business student right." She spread her arms in a wide, sweeping gesture over the whole of the class. "So that means the second event was meant for us. A wise man once told me that teamwork makes the dream work. Actually it wasn't a man, it was my sixth grade chemistry teacher who got arrested for making meth, and she was a woman, but still. The concept applies the same. In fact she probably only got arrested because her team didn't work together well enough. Anyways, I'm getting off topic here, but we have this. I expect each and every one of you to try your hardest." She pointed her finger to the student on the farthest side of the room and moved it across the class, making eye contact with each confused, and now slightly concerned, student. "What are all of your goals one day? To help run hero agencies or businesses, right? Do you want to just be a regular staff employee that people just walk all over? A weak business man or woman? No. No you don't. People don't expect us nerds to be able to kick ass so we are going to show them that we can. Everyone is going to underestimate us which is why we have to show up and show out."
A scrawny student raised a shaking hand. "Um, I don't want to be walked all over, but I have asthma so I'm not sure if I would really be able to help in this endeavor… Please don't kill me…"
"Oh that's alright man if, it's a medical condition, then it's a medical condition. Everyone else, though, I expect you to bring your absolute best or else," she said as she turned her pointed finger towards her throat and made a slicing motion. "I don't even care if you don't make it past the first round, but I expect everyone to try their hardest. At the very least, I know we can crush the general studies classes. It's time for the business class to take their rightful place as the CEOs of this establishment. Let's stage a coup d'etat!"
"Okay, well, that was a bit much towards the end, but like it was still actually a pretty motivating speech, I guess," Logan offered, looking at the people around her.
"Yeah especially for someone who rarely speaks more than a sentence at a time and hates conversation," Rei agreed.
"Well, speeches aren't conversations," Izumi pointed out. "I just have to get what I want to say out and don't have to worry about the opinions or concerns of other people."
Snipe cleared his throat to get the class's attention. "Alright, well, that was very motivating and I am glad that you are so motivated, but you need to take your seat and climb down from the desk. I don't know what it is with you lassies and your persistent desk climbing but from now on it's an immediate detention." He waited for Izumi to climb down from her desk, with some help from Rei. "Now generally, you ain't learnin' nothin' when your mouth's a-jawin', so hush up so I can go over some other announcements."
"Okay, there are two people left and I know that one of them is hunkered down in the basement objective." Izumi said, looking over her shoulder at Izanagi. "Do you want to go outside and try and enter through one of the basement windows while I try and push down from the stairs?"
"Uh… yeah sure I guess. Where is the closest exit again?" Izanagi asked nervously, looking back down the hallway they'd come through.
"Ugh. The back door is down the hall and to the left, past the kitchen. Hurry up, alright? Radio to me whenever you are at the window. We only have about two and a half minutes left to grab the hostage." Once he'd gone, Izumi quietly made her way down the staircase into the home gym. She was careful to stick to the walls and check all her corners. Once she secured the gym, she placed one of the school's non-lethal mines on the south wall that connected with the laundry room that the hostage was in.
"Hey, I am at the window and I see the hostage but I don't see the enemies anywhere," he radioed. "Are you sure one was in there?"
"Yeah, I am fairly certain. They might be hiding below the window. Do you see any feet or anything?"
Izanagi took a moment to check from another angle. "No, I don't. Wait, I think I just saw some fabric move… Yeah. Okay. I know where he is. He is crouched in the nook between the washing machine and the door. I can't get a shot on him. If you enter through the door you will have to do an immediate 180 to shoot him. It looks like he is probably waiting for you, though."
"Okay, I placed a non-lethal mine on the south wall close to the window you are at. I am going to try and blow it as a distraction, so if he gets up be prepared to shoot him. I'm going to bust in through the door at the same time, so you better not shoot me. Once we take this guy down I'm going to open that window and try and help give the girl a boost up so you can grab her and help pull her up."
"How are you going to get up to the window without a boost though?"
"I won't be able to, but as long as we get out the hostage, we win, so that's all that matters. Now, on the count of three, I'm going to bust in so be ready. One. Two. Three. Go." Izumi remotely detonated the mine on the wall just before she kicked open the door into the room. The boy stood up to try and run below the window but Izanagi shot him before he could make it out of the nook.
"Fuck yeah!" Izanagi cheered. "I got him. I got him."
"Good job, my guy." Izumi undid the Velcro ties that were 'binding' the hostage so that they would be able to have free range of motion. She then worked quickly to open the window and took a knee to help give the hostage a boost up to grab Izanagi's hands. While Izanagi was helping the girl climb up and out the window, Izumi turned to keep an angle on the hole in the wall she had created with the mine. Izanagi had successfully helped the girl fully out of the window as the last member of the enemy team raced down the stairs. The sound of an air horn went off before Izumi or the enemy were able to get off a shot on one another, signaling the end of the match. Izumi ran up stairs past the member of the enemy team and into a big group hug with her other four teammates.
"Man, I did really shit that match. I died before I even could make it into the building," said one of the boys on her team.
"Let's go! That was a pretty drawn out match. It also had a really intense ending. I thought you might actually lose, little miss genius," Logan teased with a sing-songy voice. "Well, that was the last match for the meet today! Everyone did a great job today. We are going to have another meeting at the same time next week. I'm going to figure out what buildings we are going to be using for that meeting so as soon as I find out I will send you all an email with their floor plans. Expect to get it by Thursday at the latest, so you all will be able to study it."
"Okay. Logan you are sure this is the most up to date building plans we have?" Rei shuffled through the papers spread out over the table in front of her. Her brow creased as she studied the floor plan, scanning the document for a date.
Logan balanced on a step-stool, leaning over Nomu's shoulder as she slipped a custom-made knight's helmet over his head. "Yeah, that's the latest floor plans on file at the housing department," she said, hopping down from the stool and taking a step back to admire her work.
"It's from 2140… That's like over 30 years ago. There is no telling what sort of changes could have happened in that time."
"Hey, listen babe. I did what I could." Logan climbed back up to adjust the feather on Nomu's helmet. "I hacked into the department and got whatever was on file. I can't just magically retrieve data that doesn't exist. I may look enchanting, but I assure you I am no sorceress or anything."
Rei sighed, setting the floor plan down. "At the very least it's a good baseline. From what we were able to see through all of the windows seems to match up. I doubt they did any super extensive renovations anyways. It isn't like you want to be drawing too much attention to yourself when you are stashing a shit load of weapons. It would be much safer though if we could get some sort of drone or something inside to check out what's going on."
"Drone or something? What, like just with a camera? Izumi can make that, right?" Logan looked over to Izumi, who was preoccupied with looking out the window. "I mean she used to be really big on making her own toy cars to win races with. It was her elementary school hustle."
Rei gathered up the pages in front of her and slipped them back into their manilla folder. "Hey Izumi, can you make us some drones or something? The sooner the better, we need to have them done by the end of the week if we want to be able to have time to scope out the house, take down the mob, prepare for the sports festival, and read up for the literature test next week."
"Do you have any duct tape?" Izumi turned her head to look at the girls as she stood up and started taking papers off of a buried steel trunk that had clearly not been opened in a rather long time.
"Yeah. Of course we do." Logan headed over to one of the file cabinets and opened the second drawer. She pulled out the roll of duct tape and threw it at Izumi. "Heads up."
Izumi caught the roll of tape in one hand and grabbed a few miniature toy cars from the trunk. They were no larger than Hot Wheels. Each one had a distinct color pallet and matching controller. She then got up and walked over to another one of the filing cabinets in the room and started searching through the bottom drawer, pulling out three finger tip sized wireless bluetooth cameras. She taped the cameras to the small remote cars, careful to not block the lenses. "Okay, everyone hand over your phones and choose a color."
"Pink!" Logan said instantly, handing her phone over.
Rei passed her phone to Izumi. "I'll do the green one."
"Okay, well, that leaves black for me." Izumi paired each of the girls' phones with their respective cars and cameras. "Okay, well, the hardware is all set up. You can control the cars and receive video from the cameras using bluetooth. I can set up a simple but operational app that will allow us to control them; it shouldn't take more than an hour after I get home. If you want it to have a pretty interface, though, then Logan could take over the software part. That is your area of expertise, gaming grill."
Logan snickered. "You know, you would be the greatest engineer alive if you focused on working with software as much as you work on hardware. Anyways, yeah I will set up the app for us. It shouldn't take more than an hour and it will be beautifully optimized."
"I already am the greatest engineer alive. Those scientists on their little floating buoy they call an island don't have anything on me," Izumi said confidently. "I bet if Logan and I worked together we could take that island down in a day. Logan could do her beep boop hacky wacky bullshit to fuck up their security measures and I mean I can just make some really stong thermite based det cord. We would be on that island so fast."
"Aren't you supposed to be the super logical smart one? Because I mean even I know thats a stupid idea, babe. I am glad that you have so much faith in my skills but I am most definitely not that good." Logan ran her hand through her hair and tossed it over her shoulder. "I can maybe hack into a small foreign government but I definitely wouldn't risk trying to hack a government or agency that knows what the hell they are doing. Besides I usually only use my hacking for good. Mainly on those people who pretend that your computer has a problem so they can guide you into mirroring your computer and fake Nigerian princes."
"Didn't you once hack a multi-million dollar telecommunications network so that you could find the personal phone number of the CEO of the company that owns your favorite MMORPG to light a fire under their ass to get it back up?" Rei pointed out.
"Yeah, wait, why did you do that, anyways?" Izumi asked. "Couldn't you have just hacked into the game and brought it back up yourself?"
"I really didn't want to risk running into any spoilers," Logan said defensively. "The latest season was about to come out and I wanted to be able to experience it with everyone else."
Rei shook her head. "I mean, if an actual telecommunications network didn't detect you, I am pretty sure you can handle governments too."
"No, see the way it works is that the government just kind of takes all the best programmers and coders away from everywhere else and assembles them into a sort of hacking superteam. I'm pretty sure they even just keep some held against their will. It's kind of just what governments do."
"This is why we need anarchy," Izumi said casually. "Problem solved."
"Okay, how did we even end up on this line of conversation?" Rei asked, standing up from the table. "It's already getting late since someone made us spend an hour after school today in detention. Let's head home so we can get ready for dinner. Logan, do you want to come over for dinner or just head home and work on the app?"
"I'll just work on the app tonight. I'll probably just order a pizza or something." Logan stretched her arms and yawned. "Tomorrow I have to stay late at school for a conference with mummy man. I would call him scarf guy but I mean with all the bandages he has going on I can't tell if he is wearing it or not."
Izumi raised a brow. "Why do you have to have a meeting with him? He isn't even actually your teacher. Why do you have to have a meeting with him?"
"I don't know. It was made very clear that I couldn't weasel my way out of it though. Not for lack of trying." Logan walked to the entrance of the tree house and climbed down. "Apparently during the meeting after the airsoft club meet I made a 'concerning comment' so we have to 'get to the root of my problem' or whatever."
"Okay, well, have fun with that and we will see you tomorrow!" Rei said, waving goodbye.
The girls had been working every afternoon to gather more intel on the base they were soon planning on raiding. Izumi had figured that for a siege such as the one they were planning, they would all need to be suited with both long range and short range weapons. She used the technology she had made for her AK-12 shock rounds to make smaller caliber pistols and SMG shock bullets for the other girls to use. Logan had created a simple and effective app to control and record footage from the makeshift camera drones they made. They used drones to travel through the ventilation systems of the building they were planning to attack. It had turned out that the floor plans for the building were completely up to date, even though they were created a relatively long time ago. On the bright side the girls were able to keep their drone cars near vent openings and recorded all sorts of damning evidence. Rei had been the one tasked with looking through all of the footage because of her keen attention to details. She had effectively worked out the security schedule that the group used and took note of what rooms would be statistically likely to have the most people at any given time. Going through the footage was an easy enough task, but her eyeballs would never be able to recover from some of the footage of the group's highly debaucherous activities.
"Okay so we know that the south half of the house pretty much always has over seventy percent of the member population," Logan pointed out as she looked over Rei's notes. "That means our best bet would be entering from the north, right?"
"Well, if we pick the room that is the most populated to attack first, we might actually be better off. It will be dangerous, sure, but we will have the drop on them which will give us a large advantage," Rei explained. "We know that house is home to twenty four members. The only times when they are all there is during their shift changes. Those happen at four in the morning and four in the evening. There are consistently at least sixteen people that go to the meeting room while the shift change is happening. Sometimes there are one or two stragglers that decide to join on the rare occasion." As she spoke, she pointed out the relevant details written clearly in her notes and traced her finger along the map to show their movements. "That means if we can get an initial surprise attack to drop everyone in the room we will be left with about eight people to fight. If we entered and attacked from the north side we would have to be incredibly stealthy or else we would be left severely outnumbered without any advantage. Their meeting room is on the second floor and in the furthest south eastern corner. There is a one story house next door to the east, but there are no windows on that side of the room. There are two windows to the south side of the room that each one of you can take. Izumi is the best at longer range shooting and her weapon is better designed for it. If we can use some det cord to blow open the wall on the east side of the room, Izumi can shoot them like fish in a barrel. They will be forced to funnel out of the door, so Logan and I can just keep an angle on it and drop them as they try and run. We want to expose ourselves as little as possible, so I am going to use the roof peak of the house on the east as cover. Once we detonate, everything is going to start going a million miles an hour. Once we secure the room, we should move as a team to their storage room in the heart of the house and take out anyone along the way. They think they are safe in their house and that is what we will use. All of their heavy rifles and automatic weapons are kept in storage while they are in the house. The most any of them will be equipped with is pistols, which means it's absolutely vital that we make it to their storage room first. If we get into a fight along the way, it could cause problems. In such a scenario, it will be likely that whatever the remaining amount of members are will hunker themselves down in the storage room. Your guns have all been equipped with thermal sights after that shit show that was the cock fighting ring. With the thermal scopes, we should be able to see through the smoke and have an advantage in taking them down. Remember that while we are using shocking rounds, they are using real bullets. If we get hit, we get hurt really bad. It isn't exactly easy to explain away a bullet hole. We need to be really careful with this one."
"Well you seem to know exactly what you are talking about, so I'm just going to say yes," Izumi followed up. "I do think that, if they do end up getting to the storage room before us, that we should throw in a few stun grenades before the smoke. Just to fuck up their hearing and stuff a bit too."
Rei nodded in reply. "Another thing to note is that from looking at their registered quirks none of them are particularly combat useful and none of them have any sort of electric resistance. We won't have time to tie up our enemies before we head to the bunker, so we need to make sure that everyone gets hit in either the head or the chest. If we don't than they won't be asleep for long enough. Any head or chest shot will keep them incapacitated for at least an hour. That means even if you hit them once, just make sure to hit them once more in the chest on our way out. It is better to be safe than sorry." She paused, looking up from the extensive notes she'd taken. "Also just as a side note the sports festival is in like four days. So you better not get hurt, and that is an order."
"Ma'am yes ma'am," Logan and Izumi said in unison as they gave Rei a salute.
"Okay, well then, I hope you guys are ready to wake up early tomorrow. I went ahead and told our parents that we have a test tomorrow, so we want to have a sleepover study session and they somehow agreed. This gives us the perfect opportunity. We are going to go for the four a.m. opening. I don't want to hear any complaints about it either, because we are going to bed early tonight. If you are not asleep by eight tonight, I will knock you out."
"This is great guys! I can't wait. It's going to be just like our airsoft club but with higher stakes," Logan said excitedly.
"I mean, if by higher stakes you mean actual risk of death, then sure," Rei replied with a shrug. "Okay, well, it is a plan then. Let's go ahead and get the files of evidence we have all sealed up and decontaminated so we can leave them at the scene. Logan, you can head home and do that for us now and we will help mom with dinner tonight. Make sure, once you decontaminate and self them, you hide the files and usb drive deep in your backpack."
"Hey. Everyone. Wake up. We have thirty minutes until shift change and it's a twenty minute run," Rei said as she shook the other two girls awake.
"Oh my fuck," Izumi groaned, pulling her blanket over herself. "I'm so tired. Why at four in the morning? Who would choose such an ungodly time?"
Logan rolled out from under her blanket, brushing a wild lock of hair out of her face. "Ugh. You are lucky I don't need beauty sleep to look like this."
Rei yanked the blanket off of Izumi and looked over to Logan. "Alright, you princess. Let's just get ready to go and quick."
"Okay," Logan and Izumi sluggishly agreed, making their way to the living area and putting on their gear. Once they had finished getting themselves fully equipped, they began their jog to the house they were planning to raid.
"Okay. Logan, before we do anything, I want you to go ahead and slip all of the files on the doorstep and weight them down with something," Rei instructed as they positioned themselves to begin the raid. "I don't want to have to worry about doing it on the way out. Also, oh fuck. Shit. I forgot something important. Here." She reached into one of her equipment bags, pulling out two breakfast bars and tossing one to each of her friends. "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we need energy if we are going to be pulling this off. Chow down on these real quick and let's get to our spots. Izumi, go ahead and rappel to the other roof and Logan and I are going to repel up to the window."
All of the girls got into their respective positions. "Hey, so this was a great plan and all, but now that I think about it shouldn't we have maybe considered investing in like. I don't know… Bullet proof vests?" Izumi asked over the coms.
"Yeah, wait, how did we overlook that?" Logan replied. The other two could hear the urge to facepalm in her voice. "Jesus Christ, we are stupid. Oh well whatever too late to turn back now babes. I am going to check the drone in the vent next to the meeting room just to make sure most of the people are there like usual. Rei, go ahead and place the det cord on the wall for Izumi and head back over here."
"Okay, det cord is placed. There isn't enough to blow the whole wall but there is enough to get the job done. You will still be able to hit them like fish in a barrel." Rei climbed to the roof of the building and repelled back down to where Logan was. She remained at the top of the window looking upside down towards the door. Logan was directly beneath her also holding an angle on the door.
Izumi's voice came over the coms again. "Hey, girls, there are two windows on that side, you know," she pointed out. "You don't both have to share the same one."
"Yeah, we know but this angle is easiest to hold the doorway," Logan explained. "Anyways, I count eighteen in the meeting room. It looks like they are discussing some kind of plans for moving a stash of weapons. I can't hear what they are saying but that seems to be what they are drawing. It could also just be drugs that happen to be in gun shapes. Point is though, there are eighteen and they are all crowded around the middle. As soon as we blow the wall, just start firing."
"Okay, guys ready?" Izumi asked.
"Ready." Logan and Rei said at once as they lined their sights up to the doorway.
"Count of three. One. Two. Three. Rei, blow it now!" Izumi yelled and Rei detonated the cord, blowing a large hole in the wall. Four men immediately ran to the doorway and unintentionally blocked each other from exiting. Rei and Logan swiftly took out the four members and they fell into a pile, blocking the door. Izumi set her rifle to automatic fire and began dropping the remaining fourteen members in the room quickly. The mob members were so shocked they couldn't figure out where to aim their weapons and take a shot off before they were all knocked down. "Fourteen people in ten seconds. Is that some kind of high score? I feel like it should be a high score. Logan, you are the gamer. Was that a high score?"
"Yeah, it was a very high score. Now, hurry up and let's get in." Logan knocked out the glass with her elbow and swung into the room, pressing the button on her auto-rappel, which sent the anchoring end flying back into place. Rei shifted right side up and followed Logan's actions as she entered the room. While Izumi was making her way up, the girls made sure to shoot each member in the chest once more to make sure they would remain incapacitated for a long enough time. They also worked to clear the four unconscious bodies that were blocking the doorway as Izumi hopped in through the hole in the wall.
"Okay let's go. I'm pretty sure that explosion had to have woken the neighbors, so we need to get a move on. Keep your guard up." Rei used energy stored in her suit to kick open the door and accidentally ended up sending it flying off its hinges. The girls started running to the storage area, finding the door already open. "Oh, well, that's just fucking great. If those idiots hadn't all piled up in the doorway and blocked it we would have been the first ones here." She threw out a few flash grenades followed up by two smoke grenades. Even though the enemies were unable to see, they had already had their weapons trained on the doorway and were firing wildly. "We need to wait until they have to reload. They aren't coordinated with each other, so they are all going to be forced to reload at about the same time when their mag runs out. Get ready to rush in as soon as you hear the firing stop," Rei said as she crouched next to the doorway, anxiously waiting for the firing to pause.
"Shit I've got to reload. Keep firing." She heard one of the men say, followed seconds later by a few tell-tale clicks of an empty magazine.
"Bit late to start strategizing, now isn't it, boys?" Logan teased as she rushed into the room using her thermal scope for vision. "Who's ready to have a mobster mash?"
Rei positioned herself by the door, scanning both ways down the hall. "I'm going to hold the doorway. In case someone else is still making their way from somewhere else in the house."
Izumi and Logan rushed along the right and left sides of the room respectively making quick work of the men inside. Izumi had taken down two and Logan had taken down another two. "Okay, well, that makes twenty-two," Izumi counted. "That leaves two more. Where are they?"
Rei fired off a shot as someone tried running to the room with their pistol drawn. "One more." The three girls waited a few seconds with their weapons trained on the door. "Did one of them just decide not to show up today?"
"I'm not sure… We need to get going though and fast. The neighbors had to have called the police by now and we can't afford to get caught." Rei said as she quickly shot each of the members in the room once more in the chest to insure their incapacitation. "Let's head out, I guess." The girls began to make their way through the house back to the room they had initially entered from. Their guards had begun to fall as they neared their exit. Rei and Logan were the first to enter the room that they had begun their attack from and all of the bodies looked to still be in the exact same position.
A gunshot went off from the other end of the hall. "Oh fuck. Ouch. Fuck. Shit. Bitch. Fuck. Son of a fuck. Fuck," Izumi cursed as she fired off a shot towards the man at the other end of the hall, who was holding his gun and shaking. Izumi shot him in the face right above the lip and he fell to the ground with his body jolting from the electricity. Once he fell, Izumi started to clutch her left thigh.
"Oh god, fuck. It hit you?" Rei said as she rushed to Izumi's side. "How bad is it? Shit, we need to get out of here. Logan. Quick. Grab Izumi and carry her out of here. We can figure out how bad it is once we are somewhere safe. I'm going to grab wedge the bullet out of the wall and use some of our emergency decontaminate. It won't take more than a second. Make sure that she doesn't put the wound on any dirt or anything."
Logan nodded and lifted up Izumi climbing out of the building with her. "Please just be a graze. Please just be a graze. Please just be a graze." She chanted as she started running with the girl to any nearby secluded alley she could find. Once she found one private enough the crouched down and held Izumi on her lap using her hand to add pressure to the bleeding. "Well, the bad news here is that you are bleeding. But the good news is that it seems to not be that bad. It could just be a graze."
Izumi groaned. "It doesn't feel like a fucking graze. Oh my god this hurts like a bitch."
"Well, I mean, you still got shot so of course it will hurt, just be optimistic."
"You can't just tell someone that they got shot and then tell them to be optimistic in the same fucking sentence," Izumi snapped as Logan started directing Rei to their location.
"Okay. I took a first aid class online. I've got this," Rei assured them as she approached. "Okay, let's see what we have. Izumi, I need you to deactivate your suit."
"In what world is an online first-aid class going to be helpful literally at all? Absorption suit, deactivate," Izumi said as Logan took her hands off of the girl's wound.
Logan and Rei glanced at the wound and breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh thank god. It's just a graze."
"It doesn't feel like one."
"Well, it is." Rei reached for the emergency first-aid kit they kept with them. "Be happy. It just looks like you got one hell of a cut. Good news is that it will be easy to treat. We just have to disinfect it and bandage it. It's going to hurt bad for a few days, but you probably won't need any stitches or anything. Now, we are going to need to check it regularly to make sure it doesn't get infected or anything. Also you should probably take an antibiotic, so you should make some as soon as possible."
Izumi stared at her as she spoke. "What kind of fucking online first-aid class even covers bullet wounds?! Also you want me to just make antibiotics?"
"Yeah. I mean you can do that no problem."
"Doing it isn't the problem. That is manufacturing drugs. That is illegal."
"So is being a vigilante. Does that stop us? No," Rei reminded her.
"Technically it isn't illegal for us because we technically aren't breaking any of the vigilante laws since they were all re-designed specifically to deal with quirks and not just actual vigilantism. Manufacturing drugs is illegal no matter which way you slice it."
"Who is going to arrest you for making antibiotics anyways?" Logan asked. "Jesus, it's not like it's meth or coke."
Izumi snapped her head around to look at her. "Uh. The police. The police will arrest us. The federal government."
Logan rolled her eyes. "Okay, well, listen I do know a grocery store that sells some left over nearly out of date prescription antibiotics. I mean, pills last way past their expiration date, they just lose a little bit of effectiveness. If you really feel that uncomfortable about making some I can just get us some from there."
"Excuse me, what? You know that is, like, extra illegal, right? Like you really should turn them in."
"Yeah, well, they also don't card me when I want to buy alcohol so I'd rather not do that."
"Okay, new plan. Why don't we just disinfect it?" Rei suggested. "Then go home. Come up with some stupid but believable excuse for how a knife fell and grazed your thigh and just go to an actual fucking doctor."
Logan shook her head. "How are we going to explain a knife just falling on the side of her thigh?"
"We were cutting a thick and over-cooked piece of meat and it slipped off the plate, slicing her as it fell?"
"Only a fucking idiot would believe that. Whatever, it will work I guess, though," Izumi sighed. "We can come up with more details on the way to try and garner some sort of believability."
"Do you think that going to the hospital with your friend would be a valid excuse to miss class?" Logan asked. "Because I have another meeting with scarf guy today and I wouldn't complain about missing…"
"I am in excruciating pain and the only thing you can think about is how you have a completely unfounded hatred for your teacher?!"
"No, that is just one of the things I am thinking about. Now, come on, we are going to hurry up and get you home."
"Oh, honey, it's okay. Accidents happen," Haruko said sympathetically, patting Izumi gently on the shoulder. "Gravity can be a real pain sometimes. We can all get a little bit clumsy sometimes. The doctor said it will in no time if you just use the gel they gave you. If you follow the doctors orders, you won't even be left with a scar or anything. Isn't that wonderful? Give it two weeks and you will be good as new again sunshine!"
Logan put her hand on Izumi's shoulder, not nearly as gentle as Haruko. "Yeah, we get to stay home with you all day today, too, to help you recover!"
"Wait, I have the sports festival in, like, three days, Will I be able to compete?" Izumi asked the doctor who was still in the room writing notes on his clipboard. "I have people counting on me."
"Yes, well, it was a relatively minor injury. It will likely still hurt a bit, but it says here you are a UA student, right?" The doctor tapped his clipboard. "As long as you visit the school nurse tomorrow, she should be able to heal you up even faster. If you don't want it to leave a scar, though, then you had best make sure she doesn't completely heal it. The gel will prevent scar tissue, so you should be able to ask her to leave it as basically just the equivalent of a paper cut's damage and use the gel from there."
Haruko nodded. "Alright. That sounds like a plan, doc. Thank you so much," she said, giving the doctor a small bow.
"Yeah, thank you!" Izumi, Logan, and Rei said in unison.
Haruko left the doctor's office with the girls and drove them home. "I'm going to have to head back into work, so you two make sure to take good care of Izumi today. Okay?"
"Yes, mom! We will," Rei replied, waving to her mom as they helped Izumi make her way up the stairs into the house.
Izumi settled down into her desk chair, moving her injured leg very carefully. "Well, hey, I guess this gives me more time to work on gadgets for the sports festival, right? We agreed that we would take Etsuko under our wing and try to get her through with us so we can dominate whatever the group event is, right?" She dug around in one of her desk drawers, pulling out a notebook and flipping it open. "I've made jetpacks for everyone. You guys also need to bring some stuff to the table. Etsuko said that she was going to bring football armor for everyone so we can have some good defense. We have mobility and defense down, what we need is offensive. Maybe something that can help us with range too I suppose." She dropped the notebook onto the desk and turned her chair around to face her friends. "So, one of you needs to come up with a short ranged tool and one of you needs to make a long range tool. I'm going to see if I can think up a few more small things that might be able to help. Our best plan would be to over-prepare so just think of anything that could be useful in any sort of situation and just bring it. If they don't work for an event then we don't have to use it. If they do, though, then we have an advantage. Whatever you come up with, make four of them so we can all have one. We are going to meet up with Etsuko tomorrow to go over more things. Sound good?"
"Sounds good, chief babe," Logan said. Rei nodded in agreement.
"Lets kick this sports festival's fucking ass," Izumi said, grinning. "I thrive as an underdog. God, there is just nothing better than making other people be wrong."
Rei sat silently for a moment before letting out a gasp at her great revelation. "Oh my god… wait…. I just got it. Mobster mash. Like Monster Mash. Oh that is funny. I see what you did there!"
