Lilie couldn't believe it, Gambol was on his way. Outside of her room she heard how the Joker roared instructions to his henchmen and they made a racket as they anxiously carried out his orders. Soon the Joker hurried into her room, he lifted her up and carried her outside without a word. The henchmen were loading themselves and some weapons inside a big, white van. She was placed in the front seat and The Joker was driving, he sped out of the garage with screeching tires.
She couldn't see much as it was dark outside, but they seemed to be driving in the countryside. She looked at him and saw that he was tense. He clenched his jaw and raised his shoulders to an unnaturally high position, it made him look like a predator about to sneak up on his prey. He glanced at her as he noticed she was looking at him.
"Is something on your mind?"
"..You know, Gambol has a lot of men working for him, and he is working closely with Falcone."
"Your point?"
"You have a couple of guns and three dummies in the back of a van, how do you plan on getting out of this?"
"I also have an annoying woman in the front seat."
"Yeah, but I'm tied up so I can't help."
"And you could if you weren't?"
"Oh yeah."
"Right."
"If we get into a tight spot, the best thing you can do is to remove my ropes and give me a weapon."
"Ha-Ha. I'll write that joke down."
"I'm serious."
"So am I."
"Whatever. All I'm saying is that Gambol is probably very motivated to get you, and he's got many men at his disposal. We seem to be in the middle of nowhere and we have very few roads to choose from, he is without a doubt going to cover every single road out of here. You are probably driving in his direction right now."
"I wouldn't pick a hideout that I didn't know how to escape." he growled with a low voice.
"Whatever you say."
"If you're going to keep bothering me, why don't you tell me something useful?"
"Like what?"
"Why do you hate Gambol?"
"Ugh.. here we go again."
"You haven't told me much."
"And whos fault is that? Who decided to get all rapey in the middle of an interrogation?" she said accusingly and he furrowed his brows.
"..I didn't plan that. You're.. uh, quite alluring. And extremely annoying." he said and grinned.
"And that turns you on? Or what?"
"It does something." he mumbled and she didn't answer as she was surprised when he slowed down the van to a complete stop. There was a forest to their left, and he backed onto a road that led into it. In no way had she ever been able to detect that road, if you could even call it that. He parked the van about 20 meters in, partly concealed by some bushes and trees. As it was a white van it definitely wasn't invisible, but someone who was just driving by without paying attention wouldn't notice it. He turned the van off and turned to look at her as if he was figuring something out.
"What?" she asked and he weighed his words before answering.
"..I don't know much about you, but I trust that I know some things. You are brave and you would rather die than end up in Gambol's captivity, correct?"
"Yes."
"Now, I think this means that I can ask for your help with getting away from him, right?" sa han och hon nickade ivrigt.
"I'll do anything, you name it."
"Good girl. This is the thing; if the information my source gave me is correct, a car with at least two of Gambol's men should drive by here within 20 minutes. Just like you said, he's scouting all roads." The Joker explained and she nodded.
"Yeah, he doesn't like to take chances."
"Soooo, we could hide here and hope they don't see us, but if they do, we are in a lot of trouble. We could easily take two of his men out, but they would call for reinforcements immediately and soon we would have half of the mob at our tail. The best scenario would be if we could ambush them and take them out before they are able to communicate with anybody." he said and searched her face to see if she understood, she nodded with a serious expression.
".. so you need me to slaughter the-" she said but he annoyedly cut her off.
"Focus and listen to me!"
"Fine."
"I need you to be a damsel in distress, to be a distraction. When we see their car, I want you to run out in front of it and make sure they stop and get out, and keep their focus on you for a minute. We'll take care of the rest. Can you handle that?"
"In my sleep." she said and smiled, he studied her quietly.
".. You seem intelligent to me, you know it's not a good idea to try and escape from me out here in the middle of nowhere. Be good, okay?"
"I'll be good. What do I do if the wrong car shows up?"
"It's a very small chance of that at this hour on this road. But if it happens, try to get rid of them without drama. If things go south we'll help you and scare them off. We'll be listening"
"How fun."
"Mhm.. I'll tell the others." he said and jumped out of the van. Lilie's heart was pounding hard, not from fear but excitement. A couple of minutes later the Joker opened the door on her side, he carried her down and removed her ropes. As she stood in front of his henchmen she tried to ignore their united gaze at her shirtless, freezing body. Evan, one of the goons, gave her a cell phone with a flashlight function she could use to make the driver notice her.
The Joker and his goons loaded their guns and hid behind bushes and trees close to the road. In their black outfits they were pretty much invisible. Lilie crouched down next to the Joker and tried to ignore how cold the air was against her naked skin. After a couple of tense, quiet minutes they saw the headlights from a car appear far down the road.
"..This is it. Remember, we are right behind you." The Joker said and Lilie stood up.
"I've got this, J." She answered and moved a bit closer to the road., she never saw his smirk. Once they were within 50 meters from her she ran right out onto the street and frantically waved the lit up cellphone to make them stop, the driver had to choose between stopping or running her over. It was a big, black and luxurious SUV, when she saw the two men in the front seats she knew they were Gambol's men, and they were only two. Score. When the car stopped she ran over to the driver's side and hysterically knocked on the window.
"Open up please! PLease sir you have to help me!" she cried and tried to look as scared as possible. The driver opened the window and they both quietly looked at her with searching eyes. "Please help, they are after me! I got away from them but I don't know where I am and I can't get a signal, I'm so scared, I, please..-" she rambled very fast.
"Whoah, slow down..who is after you?" the man asked and looked her up and down. She clawed at her face, gasped for air and sobbed.
"They are! They are coming back, I know it!" she cried and slowly backed away from the car as she knew they were curious enough to follow.
"Hey, come back here, who is coming? Hey..!" he called for her, she started crying and kept backing away while looking around in the dark as if expecting someone to jump at her. "Come back! We'll give you a ride, we-... god damn it." The driver muttered and opened the door, before he got out he turned to the man in the passenger seat. "Give me a hand will you? She's hot, let's bring her back to our place?" he said in a low voice. The passenger nodded and they both got out and walked towards her, carefully, as to not scare her away. "We can give you a ride, girl, just calm down.." the driver said in a soothing voice. She kept backing away, she looked at them with fearful eyes and drew fast, shuddering breaths.
"You're one of them, aren't you?" she sobbed.
"She's crazy, let's just get her.." the driver mumbled under his breath to the other man and they picked up their pace. Lilie saw shadows move behind them, so as to make sure they kept their focus on her, she pretended to trip and threw herself down on the ground. She cried loudly as the men came for her.
A gun fired. The driver heavily fell down to the ground as he was shot in the head, luckily none of his brain matter or blood came on her as he wasn't that close. She had never been a fan of the splatter spewing out of someone's head when hit by a heavy bullet close up. Before the other man had any time to react the Joker came up behind him and pulled a knife up to his throat.
"Surpriiiise.." he said with a smooth voice to the man, Lilie got up to her feet and walked up to them, she grinned at the man.
"I got you!" she mocked, feeling very pleased with herself. She looked at the Joker and felt something close to butterflies in her stomach as he gave her an approving smile. The man cursed and panted, looking as stressed as a deer cornered by a pack of wolves. The Joker threateningly pressed the blade against his throat and he flinched, some blood trailed it's way down to his chest.
"How do you communicate with the rest of the crew?" the Joker snarled to him.
"B-by phone.."
"Are they expecting a call soon?"
"We.. We are supposed to report to Coleman every hour, until.. until we find y-you."
"Search him." The Joker ordered and Evan immediately obeyed, he found a phone, a wallet and a gun. "I assume there is a tracking device in the car?"
"..Yes."
"Then we can't stay here for long." the Joker said and they all went back to the van after carrying the dead man into the SUV, they parked it in the forest and stripped it of everything useful. The Joker wanted to interrogate the man before they kept going, but tied Lilie up and put her back into the front seat of the van first. Before he closed the door she looked at him, unable to hide her disappointment as she wanted to hear the interrogation. He laughed.
"You're so cold you're shaking, love. I don't want you to get sick." he said and gently squeezed her knee with his hand before closing the door. She sighed and looked after him until someone else caught her eye, Antonio was staring at her and as the Joker and the rest of the guys focused on Gambol's henchman, he jumped into the driver's seat and looked at her with an unpleasant smirk.
"I am cold too, love." his words seeped out of his mouth like oil, fitting to his greasy hair and skin.
"God damnit." she mumbled to herself and sighed.
