Hey everyone,
This chapter is going to be a lot more pleasant than the last. We are going to give Sly his cane back and we're going to give him and Harry a nice chance to bond. We're also going to send Harry onto Charms, though Harry won't really be doing any magic lessons in this chapter. Instead, he and Tennessee are going to show his year mates a bit more of what makes a Cooper special, with help of Flitwick. Carmelita's testimonies will be after that.
Have patience,

Chapter 17
The Power Of The Coopers
25th of November 1994
Hospital Wing, Hogwarts
Harry's POV
"Very well, Mr. Potter. How do you feel now?" Madam Pomfrey asks me a minute or so after I finished my tale. I smile at her as talking about the last bit of the story, hearing Sirius with his quote and the warmth of my siblings close against me helped me feel better. And I happily tell her this as I say: "I feel good enough to go back to class, Madam." The woman nods, yet then the curtain opens and a head sticks through.
"Sly, we finished your cane." Grandpa tells us and Sly is instantly on his feet. "Wait, really? Already?" He asks excited and grandpa nods as he says: "Yeah, the others knowing what your cane used to look like helped a lot. And Bob's strength made it easy to slam the nuggets into the right shape. Plus, I actually had my own engineering tools on me when I was brought here." And with that he throws the cane.
Sly easily catches it and while it still doesn't have a tip, he just happily presses a button. And the golden bent tip that is shaped like the letter C for Cooper is incredible and a true sight to behold. Sly's grin almost splits his face in half and he actually moves himself out of the cubicle. Instantly we all follow after him. He moves over to a portion where he's by himself and then he starts to move his cane. And the way he does this is astonishing.
From his left hand to his right and back. Behind his back and in front of him. And the whole time, even while he throws it up and catches it, he keeps swirling the cane like a baton. What's most amazing is that Sly seems to know where he moves the cane before his limbs move as his eyes follow the cane with incredible focus and precision. In the end, he even throws it so that the cane almost lands behind him, but then he back-kicks it back up.
The cane swings back up and when it falls down again, he catches it without even looking before he slams the bottom tip onto the ground. "Oh yeah, I'm back in business. Otto, you and the others did excellent work. I can't thank you enough." Sly tells our grandfather, who nods with a huge grin on his own face. I notice that the others all have tears running down their faces and Dimitri whimpers: "I was sure I'd never see Crackerbox like this again.
I didn't want to believe it, but – I was so scared." Sly gives one of his teammates a reassuring smile and then he grins and says: "I guess you missed seeing me do my stuff, huh Dimitri." The Iguana nods and Sly grins: "Then allow me to reassure you." And with an incredible backflip, Sly lands on top of the metal beams that hold up the privacy curtains. Madam Pomfrey yells at him, but Sly just grins and starts to move.
His feet are bare and his toes wrap themselves around the beam at every step, yet he easily runs across the length of the Hospital Wing, a look of intense exuberance on his face. He then reaches the end and makes another jump, this time to the side and with another flip. He twists on his axis and this time, he slides across the length of the Hospital Wing. Yet before he reaches the end, he stops and jumps. He pulls out his cane and hooks it onto the beam.
My brother holds onto the cane with both hands and one of his feet and he swings in multiple loops around the beam. Madam Pomfrey is gaping at him, yet I can't help but think: "He's up to something." And I get proven right. At the sixth loop, I spot Sly letting go off his cane with one of his hands and he grabs onto Carmelita. The fox yelps, but then Sly stops looping and hangs them both from his cane as he kisses her.
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME? EVEN WHEN THEY'RE SOUL BOND AND CAN READ EACH OTHER'S MINDS, HE'S STILL ABLE TO SURPRISE HER LIKE THAT?" Bentley asks and I burst out laughing as I say: "I think it's more likely that he caught her off guard, Bentley. Remember, she can feel his emotions as well. She must have been too focused on that." Bentley shakes his head and Dimitri and Murray laugh.
My siblings part lips and Carmelita moans as she says: "Yep, my Sly Cooper is back in business, everyone." Sly grins at her and then, with Carmelita's waist still firmly in his grasp, he unhooks his cane and jumps down. "Mr. Cooper, let me quickly check you up, just in case." Madam Pomfrey almost orders him and my brother nods. Yet after the scan Madam Pomfrey sighs in relief as she says: "Thank heavens, you still seem alright."
Sly swings his cane in his hand again and then lays it in the back of his neck as he says: "Of course Madam Pomfrey. I've been using these techniques for five years now. They're second nature to me." I easily pick up on the low amount of years and yet I don't even care. And Madam Pomfrey feels the same as she nods. Yet the sight also brought out the Cooper within me and I quickly check my watch. "Sweet, I still have 20 minutes. Well, 13, really."
I mutter and I head for the cubicle next to Sly's, where I had set my trunk the other night. I open the lid and inspect each of my canes for a moment and then I smile as I grab the one made of bamboo. "I really oughta – nah." I think to myself as the bamboo is from the one time Petunia felt like turning her garden into a Japanese paradise. She had bought several cars full of bamboo and other Japanese things and hadn't even noticed me taking a few branches.
The cloth wrapped around the cane is from the robe that I wore into the Chamber that got torn, though before then it had been covered by a dress that I had stolen from Petunia for purposely organizing other activities on my birthday a few years ago. I grimace as I push these thoughts away and then just focus on what I want to do. And with another double jump and a spin on my axis I easily end up on the beam of the privacy curtains myself.
"HARRY!" Lupin shouts in shock when he sees me, but I just stare back at him. Sirius grins and asks: "Didn't you tell me something about rock spires helping you escape the enclosure the other day, pup?" I nod at the man who asks: "Remus, can I borrow your wand a moment?" Lupin hesitantly hands it over and I happily jump up again. And as I do, Sirius conjures a metal spike underneath me. "SIRIUS!" Lupin yells.
Yet I easily twist on my axis and land on the spire with one foot while my other rests on my knee. Lupin gapes and Sirius happily conjures spires all over the beams that run down the length of the Hospital Wing. Sly laughs in excitement at this and jumps over to land on one of the spires himself. Yet where I stand on one leg, my brother wraps the toes of both feet around the top and sides of the spire instead.
We stand next to each other and grin at each other. I then center myself and put my full focus on a spire on the other side of the Hospital Wing. I feel my power surging through me and move it down into my legs before I release it as I jump. And with a burst of power and speed I dash across the room and land on the other side. Yet this seems to astound Sly and he asks Rioichi: "You taught him the Leaping Dragon technique?"
"You can't do this one?" I ask my brother while our ancestor nods to answer Sly's own question. Sly sighs and mutters: "I struggle with it for some reason." I shrug and say "I have always had an affinity with techniques that are all about speed, movement and travel. It's why I picked up on Salim's Climbing Cobra technique nice and quick and why it was easy for him to teach me how to be faster than fast." Sly nods and says: "I can see that.
To be honest, the Rail Slide was always harder for me to master than the Rail walk. Plus, the techniques that helped me in a fight always came easier as well. Though it only took me a few months at most to learn all the techniques to the point that I could do them. Not perfectly, but at least to the point that I knew what I was doing. And next to that, I also learned a few techniques from something other than the ancestors.
Hey Bentley, did you and the others take my costumes with you?" Sly asks his friend and Bentley nods before Murray says: "I'll go get them." Instantly I'm intrigued, but then I check my watch again and mutter: "Darn it, I need to be in class in 12 minutes." Sly shrugs at me and we both jump down, though Sly jumps onto the bed first while I just land and roll before I stand back up. "Tennessee, could you go with him?" Sly asks and Tennessee nods.
"I'll go too, Ringtail. I want to ascertain that Harry's story checks out. The more witnesses we have with aligning stories, the stronger our case." Sly's face falls as Carmelita says this and the fox giggles. She taps her forehead and says: "Remember Ringtail, I'm not that far." Sly cheers up at this and he puts his own hand on his heart as he says: "No, you really never are, gorgeous." And his reward is a truly loving smile.
Then Otto steps up and states: "Headmaster, I would like to settle on a compromise with you. One that will allow Harry to take his canes with him to class." Dumbledore frowns at this, but then Solde rolls his eyes and says: "First of all, most schools have it as part of their rule system that most students are allowed to take a family heirloom with them to class, depending on the heirloom. Second, you really can't claim a cane to be a dangerous weapon, Albus.
After all, we teach eleven year olds a charm that knocks back stuff. That might as well enable them to knock someone off of a high and tall building or something. It might be a crude example, but it's still true, Albus and you know it." The Headmaster wants to object, yet he obviously realizes that his coworker is indeed right. Grandpa nods and says: "Besides, my compromise has the students and their health in mind anyway.
It's simply so that, unless directly asked or if he is in a dangerous situation all by himself, Harry keeps his cane in his canister. In other words, unless a teacher gives him permission or if he is without the aid of myself, the ancestors, his friends, your staff or the current Cooper Gang, Harry keeps his cane on his person, but not in his hand. I personally think it a good way to prove that Harry is a Cooper and give you the chance to re-earn his trust."
Dumbledore grimaces at the reminder and Solde asks: "Do I want to know?" But I shake my head before the Headmaster can speak up. Dumbledore sends me a grateful smile and asks: "Do you think you can keep to that compromise, Harry?" I shrug and say: "Some techniques do require me to hold my cane, but not many of them are for the purpose of travel, sir." The man nods in acceptance to this and gives his permission.
I check my watch again and say: "You two better hold onto me. I think I'm better off running if I want to make it to class." Instantly Tennessee rushes over and says: "Howee, this will be fun." Carmelita shakes her head with an amused smile on her face. But before she can come over, Sly's cane is around her waist and she is turned around. And instantly afterwards, Sly's lips are on hers again before he whispers: "Back by lunch?"
Carmelita smiles at him and whispers back: "It's a date." And instantly Sly's tail starts to whack like crazy, at which I can't help but laugh. Carmelita comes over and she puts a hand on my shoulder as I crouch down. I focus within and again put all of my inner strength into my legs. And right as Dumbledore charms the doors to the Hospital Wings open, I dash off. I rush through the hallway on the right of the Hospital Wing and through the school.
I slow down slightly as we approach doors, but only enough to be able to reach out and open them as I rush through. And a few of them are already being held open by students who gasp and yelp as they feel me pass them by. And the fact that Tennessee is yelling in delight probably doesn't do much to help them feel more comfortable as I pass them by. Yet after the last four years of them turning on me again and again I just don't care.
I reach the Charms corridor and the classroom and come to a quick halt. "That was – awesome! I always knew that Salim was fast, but I never figured he was that quick. Even my Rail Slide isn't able to keep up with that. Amazing! Wow!" The cowboy exclaims and Carmelita and I both grin at him. I then turn to them and say: "I'll head in first and explain why you guys are here. Come in when I give the signal, okay?"
The two of them nod at me and then the door opens before me. "Ah Mr. Potter. How was your – ah Inspector Cooper, I see you decided to join Mr. Potter." Professor Flitwick is on the other side of the door. The three of us smile at him and I say: "Sorry if we disturbed class, Professor. My testimony just took pretty long, so I decided to use the speed Salim taught me to get here in time. Tennessee never experienced that, so this was a first for him."
The man nods, yet then a scoff is heard behind him. "Testimony? Is that how you call interviews these days, Potter?" I sigh and turn my eyes skyward as Flitwick wants to reprimand Ron. Yet I interrupt the man and say: "Don't bother, Professor. After all, you can't teach an old rat new tricks." And I make sure to emphasize the specie as I stare straight at my former friend. "Ehm Mr. Potter. The correct term is dog, not rat."
Professor Flitwick tells me, yet I keep staring over him and state: "I know what I said, Professor." The man seems to stare at me a moment, yet Ron seems to get what I'm saying – and not saying. His eyes widen and I think to myself: "Exactly, you prat." I turn my eyes away and focus back on the man before me. "Professor, because of what happened to Sly and the state he was in when he was found; the team's a little one edge.
The whole situation with the wall and the dark times isn't helping them either and neither is the fact that this is, basically, a whole new world for them. Because of this, Sly asked me if I would take one of our ancestors with me wherever I go. In return the Headmaster has granted me permission to carry a cane on my person wherever I go. Also, Carmelita would like to question a few more people in regards to the cases that she's working on."
The man nods in understanding yet then Ronald shouts: "We didn't even do anything!" I raise my eyebrow at him as I think: "Does he actually have a guilty conscience?" But Carmelita rolls her eyes as she says: "There are suspects, young man, and witnesses. I need the latter." Then Tennessee speaks up and says: "Also, as a way for us to apologize for our Little Coon missing his first class, why don't Harry and I show you and your class some more Cooper power?"
"That would certainly be most intriguing, yes." The diminutive professor happily states and the three of us happily follow him inside. Tennessee and Carmelita look around and then Carmelita moves over to the seat that is still empty besides Hermione. The girl looks startled for a moment, but then she smiles at the fox. Tennessee follows her, but with his head he motions me to follow the professor to the center of the classroom.
I follow the instructions and Tennessee asks Hermione and Carmelita if he can borrow some parchment and a pen. The two women hand him said objects and the cowboy heads back down and over to Flitwick's office. There he starts to draw something on the parchment. After about five to ten minutes the raccoon is done and he asks: "Professor, can you conjure a metal bar that is shaped like this, by chance?"
Professor Flitwick's eyes widen as Tennessee's line crosses over the parchment like a roller coaster with twists and turns all over the place. There are also a couple of loops and even one that goes upside down halfway through. "What kind of garbage is that supposed to be?" Ron exclaims as he and the others stare at the parchment. Tennessee wants to snap back at him, but then he spots me shaking my head at him.
"He's not worth the effort." I tell my ancestor and great-grandfather silently and Tennessee snorts before he scoffs at Ron. "I do believe I can conjure it, Mr. Tennessee, though I must admit that I share in Mr. Weasley's confusion." The Charms teacher confesses as he takes another look at the drawing. Yet Tennessee just grins at him and says: "Just trust me, Professor sir. I'm not the kind of fellah that wastes the time of one such as you."
Carmelita nods in agreement with this and Professor Flitwick shrugs as he says: "It's your show, Mr. Tennessee." He goes to stand near his desk and waves his wand in several arcs and bows. Beams of light appear in the space between the two stands where the students are seated and with a quick flick of his wand, Flitwick makes the whole structure appear. Tennessee nods in approval and then he asks: "Alright, next step.
Can you put a few obstacles to shoot at here, here and here?" He points at various spots on his parchment and Flitwick hums thoughtfully. He waves his wand again and several plates made of metal appear on various points on the track. Tennessee nods again while a large grin of excitement is on his face. I myself also feel really excited to try this track and I almost regret that I made a pickaxe cane and not a gun-cane like Tennessee.
But then my ancestor calls me over and actually hands me his gun. This reminds me of all the shooting lessons I got from him when I was ten years old and dreaming. I grin at the raccoon and he says: "Show 'em what you got, Little Coon." I nod, while my heart beats a little faster at the tone of adoration in Tennessee's voice as he uses my new nickname. I quickly make sure to check the gun and get myself reacquainted.
I easily notice how Hermione and Lavender are sharing shocked and horrified looks with each other, but I ignore this as I check to see if there are enough bullets in the magazine. I run my hand across the barrel of the gun to ensure that it's perfectly straight and shortly check both the front sight and the strength of the trigger. Yet I make sure not to have the front sight aimed my way as I check the latter, nor do I pull it all the way back.
I run my hand across the recoil pad and nod as I believe that the whole gun is in tiptop shape. I smile at Tennessee and the raccoon slaps me on the back as he says: "That's my little cowboy. Never use a gun if you're not 220% sure that it's in first-class shape. You might have never made a shockgun-cane for yourself, but I am still prouder than I can express." I grin as he might not be able to express his pride, but his tone still conveys the emotion just fine.
I turn my focus onto the track in front of me and mutter: "Time to have some fun." Carmelita and Tennessee grin at me and Hermione looks at me worriedly as I dash for the track. I jump and twist on my axis just before I reach the start and as I twist, the energy that has been surging through me since the First Task focuses itself in my feet. I feel it connecting with the beam below me and make sure to set my feet in the right places.
And with my right leg forward and bend just a bit, my left behind me, my right arm bend in front of me and my left stretched behind me, I start to slide across the track. "WHAT?""HOW?""THAT'S NOT EVEN POSSIBLE!""HOW IS HE DOING THAT?" Several of my class mates shout, yet I just ignore them. I twist my body from side to side as the track twists and turns. And when I reach a loop where the track overlaps, I easily jump over the overlapping part.
Then I spot my first target and immediately I have the shotgun in front of me. I peer through the lens to better my focus and gather all of the Cooper energy into my finger. I feel it coursing from my finger into the trigger, the magazine and the lens. And while I pretend that each target is a Snitch for me to catch, I focus the lens on each of the targets in front of me. I pull the trigger and a total of five bullets get shot out of the gun.
Each of the bullets hits each of the targets spot on and I shoot past them. Yet as I do, I whisper: "Accio." And all of the bullets shoot back into the magazine that I open and close swiftly. I cast a spell to fix them before I close the magazine and then spot the next set of targets. To my excitement they are right at the start of a loop that goes upside down. Again I aim through the lens and fix the power on each of the targets.
Yet instead of shooting just before I reach them, I pass them and aim the gun upward as I slide through the loop. And right as I hit the middle part of the loop, I pull the trigger once again and hit each target once again. "HOW DID HE DO THAT?" Several students yell in shock, especially the ones that had started laughing at me as I passed the targets. I want to grin at them, but instead I just focus on the rest of the track.
I slide across a few more twists and turns and down multiple S-shaped turns that follow after each other. Halfway down this track I shoot another set of targets perfectly before I jump off of the track just before the very end. I make several flips in mid-air and then land on my feet with the gun-like cane next to me, the golden tip on the floor and the other end aimed for the ceiling. "YEEHAW! Now that's what I'm talking about!"
Tennessee exclaims loudly as he runs over. I happily throw him the cane back and he quickly stashes it on his back before he wraps his arms around me. I laugh at this and happily hug him back as he says: "Little Coon, you are the best. I am so proud of you. That was excellent. That was more fun to watch than watching a donkey try to square dance." A lot of other students make exclamations of shock, yet I just laugh at his comparison.
Then Tennessee lets go off me and says: "Alright, that was a nice preview. Now time for the real show. Professor Flitwick sir, please make the targets move in various ways this time and create a vault door with a handle at the end of the track. You know, those handles that have all these metal beams stick out of them like the hands on a clock." Flitwick looks shocked and concerned and asks: "Are you sure, Mr. Tennessee?"
Tennessee grins and I tell the teacher: "Trust me, sir. No door is safe for Tennessee's Crackshot technique. My shooting is pretty much – Third year level compared to his. And he's way above NEWT level, sir." The Charms teacher takes great solace out of my words and nods. He waves and swings his wand and the requested changes are made to the track. The targets fix themselves and start moving and the door appears.
Tennessee quickly goes to check the vault door and nods when he sees the kind of handle he requested. "Yeah, I can definitely work with this." Yet then Carmelita grins and asks: "Want to spice it up a little more, Tennessee?" And when we turn to her, we see her swinging a small red gun that has a yellow badge on the side and a yellow piece of metal on the end of the gun. She is also obviously trying to keep humor out of her grin – and failing.
"I can only imagine the mental conversation she is currently having with Sly." I think amused as Tennessee grins at her and says: "I sure would, Inspector Fox." At which Carmelita laughs and says: "You and Sly really are related. You both love word jokes." I turn to Tennessee, but my ancestor just looks confused. Carmelita shakes her head and says: "Later. Get up on that track, cowboy." And with a goofy grin, Tennessee salutes her.
I happily move over to sit next to Hermione as Carmelita has left the previously vacant seat and has moved over to stand in front of Flitwick's desk. "Just for the record, everyone, this is a Shock Gun. It's a standard weapon for Third Degree Inspectors of Interpol. And Inspectors of that degree are, by the ICW, considered to be on the same level as a Body guard Rookie Auror for the Third Rank members of the Confederation.
Both Supreme Mugwump Dumbledore and his Second, Lord Marcus Solde, have already acknowledged me as such." A lot of students, especially the Purebloods I notice, look startled and amazed by this. Carmelita aims her gun at the track and says: "Now, I know that Tennessee can take much more, but to ensure your safety and health, I've put the strength of my Shock Gun on its lowest capacity.
My aim is quite impeccable, but if I do miss and you accidentally get hit, know that it won't hurt more than someone of great strength pinching you." Tennessee grins at her and says: "Do your worst, Inspector." Carmelita grins back at him and retorts: "I intent to, cowboy." And instantly Tennessee rushes for the track while Carmelita starts shooting at him. And while her aim really is incredible, Tennessee is nimble as well.
The whole way to the track Carmelita shoots at him seven times, yet only two shots hit as Tennessee either dodges out of the way or manages to jump over the shot. He jumps onto the track and moves across it incredibly. His speed is clearly faster than mine and yet he manages to dodge Carmelita's shots several more times. He doesn't dodge them all, but at the same time Carmelita keeps from shooting as he reaches the targets.
And while I had tried my best with the targets, the way that Tennessee uses his Crackshot technique really is something else. I saw him do it several times when I was ten and just like those times, it almost looks like the air around Tennessee slows down as he takes aim. I really have no words to describe how it looks to see the raccoon approach the targets at high speed, yet the space around him slow down and turn sluggish at the same time.
Throughout the whole track, bar the three times that Tennessee uses his Crackshot technique, Carmelita tries her best to shoot him. And to my own personal pride, my sister manages to hit him once every three tries as he slides across the track. Then Tennessee gets closer to the multiple S-turns and he turns to grin at Carmelita. He doesn't say anything, yet my sister gets him anyway. And instead of shooting him, she shoots at the track.
Even my eyes widen as the shot hits and the metal bar breaks. Then she shoots again and this time a bolt of electricity starts to zap between the two broken pieces. "THE HELL IS SHE DOING? THAT'S WAY TOO –!" Hermione wants to scream, yet Tennessee even amazes me as he easily jumps and vaults over the bolts of electricity. And with practiced ease he lands back on the track and just almost surfs across the S-turns.
"That – I didn't – wow!" Hermione breaths in the end and I nod at her. Tennessee approaches the door at the end and yet again his Crackshot technique hits spot on. The bullets hit the levers on the door and they turn in clockwise order before the door opens. And with a perfect twist Tennessee jumps through the now open door and lands on the other side. Yet then he yelps as Carmelita actually hits him one last time with her gun.
"Your mistake, cowboy. You should know not to let your guard down around me." My sister jokes with him and while some students look affronted, Tennessee just laughs and says: "Good shot, Carmelita. You're a credit to the Cooper name." Carmelita winks at him and puts her Shock gun away in a holster that is attached to her right hip. I also notice that she has another one on her left hip that also has a Shock Gun tucked within it.
"That was truly impressive, Inspector Cooper, Mr. Tennessee. I can definitely see why you and your line are so valuable to the timestream and why you were brought here by the magic of the wall. I look forward to seeing what else you may be able to accomplish in the years to come." Professor Flitwick excitedly praises the two and I happily grin at my sister and great-grandfather as they thank the half-goblin being for his kind words.
Yet the sight of this inspires me and I clear my throat. The man turns to me along with several of the students. I take a deep breath and say: "Professor, I would like you and the other members of staff to know that I spoke with my grandfather, Otto also known as Charlus, and that he has agreed with my desire to change my last name back to Cooper. And because I've already had this question asked of me two times now, let me answer in advance.
I do not believe that my parents would compare my change of name with a change to how I feel about them. I believe that they would know that my love and respect of them would not diminish or disappear or that I would stop to remember them if I just go back to our ancestral name. If anything, I believe that they would be proud of me for doing something that makes me happy and honors both them and the rest of our family."
A lot of the female students around me stare at me in awe, while the Gryffindor boys – bar Ron – nod in respect with my words. And Professor Flitwick joins them as he says: "You are indeed correct, Mr. Cooper. I will make sure to inform my colleagues at lunch." I smile at the man as I had worried that he might be opposed to the idea. Yet instead of this, I explain: "Thanks Professor. Madam Pomfrey wanted to do so, but she unfortunately forgot."
The man nods in understanding and then he turns to Carmelita and asks: "That reminds me, Mrs. Cooper. How is your husband faring? The Headmaster informed us all over lunch yesterday that you had managed to save him, but he left it at that. Would you perhaps be willing to share some more tidbits of knowledge?" I grin at the man as he shows signs of why he is Head of Ravenclaw. There really is no denying the man's enthusiasm or his desire to learn more.
Carmelita picks up on this as she grins at the man and yet her grin is short-lived. Tennessee quickly goes to stand close to her and Carmelita hesitates for a few moments before she cuddles with him. Then she speaks: "He is doing better, Professor. The Headmaster is right that we managed to save him, though the conditions were – horrifying to put it lightly. The Headmaster's plan took us to the day Sly was almost killed."
A lot of gasps run through the room and Tennessee grimaces as he says: "The gang had a brush that had Sly's hair on it in the van. The Headmaster used that and Harry's wand to track Sly to the day of his death. It turned out to be during the times of the great pharaohs and their lack of care for their people and workers. Some runt of a guard had taken Sly's cane and used it to capture him. He was enslaved and spent 13 years working in the sand.
He had this deal with the pharaoh of that time, but the deal was a scam meant to give the pharaoh and his guards an excuse to get rid of slaves without making it too obvious. Luckily enough, we ourselves have an ancestor of that time and Slytunkhamen was taken from our world a few years after Sly was saved. Thanks to this he knew of a rumor that helped us device the plan needed to see this done. Though I will be honest, it was pretty close."
At this Hermione, Carmelita and I all nod solemnly and I smile at Tennessee gratefully as I continue: "So close in fact that, if it weren't for Tennessee remembering how much Carmelita loves Sly, Madam Pomfrey wouldn't have been able to do a thing to save him. He was the first to suggest a Soul Bond ceremony and then Dumbledore took over and used this world's ceremony to give Sly enough energy that Madam Pomfrey could properly treat him."
A lot of those around me, even Ron, look speechless by this point and Parvati asks: "But he's – he's doing better, right?" I nod at her and say: "Madam Pomfrey performed miracles. Her potions and spells fixed almost everything that had been hurting Sly. She even thinks that he might be able to be dismissed as early as tomorrow morning. She just didn't think she could do anything at the time, because she felt he needed Skele-Gro.
She told us that she was afraid that the pain alone combined with all the pain that Sly was already in, would do him in. That's why she didn't think she could do anything, why we needed the ceremony. Sly needed just a bit more energy in order to remain stable throughout her treatment." The whole classroom nods and a lot of students look deeply relieved. Carmelita herself has her eyes closed and I can tell that she's conversing with Sly again.
"He's probably reassuring her that he's alright, that he's getting better and all that." I think and I snicker as I think: "And he's probably telling her about all kinds of romantical things that he has planned for when he gets dismissed." And just the fact that Carmelita lets out a few soft giggles confirms this for me. The fox also looks a lot more reassured and calm and she steps out of Tennessee's comforting embrace.
Well, that happened.
I'm personally quite happy with this chapter and how it went. I really think I did a good job describing the roller-coaster like track that Tennessee and Harry travelled as well as give my own personal take on what it looks and feels like to perform the Crackshot Technique. Just to be clear Harry wasn't performing this, he was just putting his magic in the gun to make sure he could fire off multiple shot with a single pull of the trigger.
Next chapter: Tennessee is going to give Harry another chance to prove the brilliance of his ancestry and the end of the class hour. And this is where we will FINALLY get to Carmelita and her continuing her investigation into Sirius' case. And lucky for her, she has several of her planned witnesses in the classroom with her. However, one of them is not going to like what has happened over class. And no it's not Malfoy.
Guess again,
