"Now I can't wait any longer to open mine after watching everyone", Kara said happily and unwrapped the present with her name tag on it.
Upon opening the small box, Kara's eyes went wide and then filled with tears and Lena's heart stopped for a moment, panic filling her chest. She'd messed this up, she'd made the wrong choice. But then Kara looked at her and whispered, "Oh Lena, this is…this is so beautiful. Where, how,…"
The Luthor relaxed and said, "I'm so glad you like it, Kara. I actually made it myself."
Overwhelmed Kara engulfed her friend in a hug and, similar to Mon-El, lifted her off the ground and swung her around.
"You made this yourself? Lena, I didn't know you were such a gifted artist. This is one of the best gifts ever!"
Lena took the pendant Kara was holding and said, "And it has some special features too."
"Seriously? You made something so beautiful and it has special features?" Kara asked in utter surprise.
Lena chuckled, "Indeed. To you and everyone in here this pendant is the sign of the house of El but, so you can wear it in public, it is equipped with a special concealing technology that will let those who don't know of your secret identity, see it as an ordinary piece of jewellery."
"Wow, you are brilliant", Kara said and the others chimed in, mumbling in approval.
"And", Lena continued, "I'm not done yet. On the back there is a sensor that will activate a Kryptonite shield so you can be exposed to it but not affected by it for about 10 minutes. Just press your thumb to the sensor for 3 seconds and it will activate. It recognizes your genetic profile only."
Kara was speechless and so was everyone else. There was total silence and again, Lena was visited by a surge of fear.
"Too much?" she asked shyly.
