Rosaine was dreaming of a family reunion the way it was meant to be. Since she had never actually met Etain, she, like so many other relatives, had only been fashioned from her sleeping imagination. And all at once it didn't matter, because she found herself being pulled out of her own body, in spirit form; up into the zenith of her sleeping shell. Her cries of terror went unheeded by the sleeping inhabitants of the Centaur Plains.
Be at peace, Beloved. There is something you must see.
The Goddess must have used her powers to soothe her Chosen One, because Rosaine was suddenly feeling better. She watched, stricken with incredulity as she phased through the ceiling and out into the night. Gradually, she floated over the tall grass of the Centaur Plains, as if the Goddess was unsure of herself. Impossible…
Prepare yourself, Beloved. This part is difficult. Remember I am with you.
"Comforting. Real comforting," Rosaine murmured. And it was difficult. One moment she was hovering, suspended in a peaceful night, high above any potential harm; and the next she was hurtling through a tunnel of flames. She could hear them crackle. She could feel the intense heat, and no one could hear her scream.
Behold earth! Suddenly the fire had been extinguished by an unforeseeable force; probably Epona. Rosaine hovered over unfamiliar land.
"What kind of dream is this?" Rosaine demanded.
This is no dream, Beloved.
"But…I'm sleeping!"
Observe.
Rosaine complied, looking around the strange land. Then she saw a woman who was actually familiar. As if by its own accord, Rosaine's body floated closer to Kaina. What? No, it couldn't be Kaina. But her flaming red hair and fierce green eyes told a different story.
Kaina MacCallan has escaped Partholon, Beloved. There was a brief delay, and then Rosaine found herself being propelled back through the fiery tunnel. You must return! You cannot be so far away from your body for long.
The flames evaporated, and Rosaine hung over her own bed, looking down at her own body. "I thought…I thought ours was the only world," she said, trying to overcome the swift return of her vertigo.
Now you know, Beloved.
Rosaine's body began to sink gently towards her resting form. "Wait!" she cried. "Will Kaina return to Partholon?"
I cannot make that choice…
Rosaine's soul settled into her body. Still deeply asleep, she mumbled, "Of course you can," then rolled over and continued to sleep.
