A/N: So, a new chapter. This will probably be the last chapter update until Christmas or the new year, since I'm not sure how I'm going to handle the Mt. Moon trip. I don't really want to follow the episode as it happened, and I'm trying to determine what how I'm writing Harry's training with his Pokemon and when and where he's capturing new Pokemon.
A/N 2: Question, when Harry capture's an Eevee, should he it evolve into an Espeon or an Umbreon. Psychic or Dark? Most of Harry's team are going to fall into the category of psychic or dark, perhaps with secondary typing such as fairy, but I wasn't sure what to do with Eevee.
A/N 3: Before anyone brings it up, I want to address Harry's power. Harry does not manipulate magic, psychic as used by Sabrina or Aura. Instead the power, as used by he and his family, is a combination of all three even though it will be called psychic since that is what the tales had come to call the manipulation power used by the Potters.
A/N 4: This chapter is the start of Arc 2, which sees Harry beginning his Pokemon journey.
Chapter 8: Arc 2: Pallet Town
After spending his summer with his guardians and playing with the Potter Pokemon, Harry was more than ready to go on his Journey. He woke early on the morning of the 3rd of August so he could catch the boat to Pallet Town. There were four destinations from the port of Sark: Pallet Town, Cinnabar Island, Fuchsia City and Olivine City. Since Pallet Town was the smallest of the four ports, the boat only headed there once whereas the other city's both got two different times (one in the morning and one in the afternoon/evening).
Harry spent the boat ride up on the deck with Ralts, the both of them discussing the route they would like to take through Kanto and the sorts of Pokemon that might be added to their team. He didn't even know what 'starter' type Pokemon he was going to get since Professor Oak wasn't sure if he was going to be able to get an extra Kanto starter since he normally bread them specially for those starting their journey.
Ralts had also asked for the Everstone to be removed from him. Harry promised to do so the moment they got his starter type because he wanted to show his new friend the sort of trainer he was going to be. Since Kirlia needed a Dawn Stone in order to evolve into Gallade, Harry had ensured that he packed one into his Evolution stone case.
During the years since he had claimed the Potter Estate, Harry had spent time searching through the Vaults which were located under the manner. There was a vault dedicated to personal artifacts (stored neatly in metal boxes and separated by person. As you moved further back through the vault, the further back through the family tree you travelled); another vault was for clothes, once again separated by age and all of it covered in airtight plastic; then there was the jewels and stone vault which was where the precious gems and evolution stones where located. Harry had packed a Dawn Stone, a Fire Stone and a three more Everstones. If he wanted or needed any other stones, he could win them in competitions or simple return home and pick one up.
The boat docked at one in the afternoon. The Inn was right next to the dock, so Harry checked in and dropped of his travelling bag before he went exploring with Ralts who was more than happy to be off the boat.
Pallet town was very small. There was a small street which had a grocery store, next to it was a store for Pokemon care and groom (including a small grooming section in the back), then there was a travel store, a clothes shop and a book store. The rest of the town was made up of a small school (with a capacity of around one hundred) and houses. On the outside skirts of the town, there was a path which led to a large lab which had a mill off to the side. Overall, it was a nice peaceful place to live.
Since it had only taken him an hour to wonder the town, Harry headed into the forest that bordered it – heading in the direction of the cliffs which he had seen when the boat came in. Ralts happily sang to himself as they moved through the trees until they came to the cliff.
"Wow." Harry breathed. The woods fell away to reveal a small meadow that led to a shear drop. The cliff he was stood on wasn't the highest point because the cliff he was stood on looped around in a horseshoe shape and on the other side the cliff was higher. What was most amazing about the sight was the Pokemon that called this little slice of heaven home.
There were Wingull and Pelipper's flying around with Butterfree and the Pidgy-line. There were also nest for these flying types formed into the rocky cliff. Coming out from several small caves, and on the small amount of sand at the base of the cliff were Krabby's and Kingler's. Playing in the water were some Seels, Dewgongs, Horsea and Seadra. Popping up every now and then further out to sea, he spotted what seemed to be the fins of a Goldeen. It was beautiful.
From his shoulder bag (the stap travelled across his right shoulder to rest at his left hip,) he pulled out his camera to take pictures. His shoulder bag had several essentials within, including some food for him and his Pokemon, water, medical kit (with his homemade medicines and the shop brought potions), his rain coat and Poke-nav. Across the strap of the bag, there was clips for eighteen pokeballs, but there was only Ralt's empty Pokeball presently attached to it.
He'd painted the red side of the Pokeball purple and added a sticker on the silver part of the number 1. This way the Pokeball was personalised to him, and he knew which Pokeball had who in it without having to hold them. Once he collected his six pokeballs from the Professor, he would paint those as well, adding the number as he caught a new Pokemon.
Harry spent a few hours up on the cliff, taking pictures of the Pokemon having fun. Ralts even found friends in a pair of Pidgey's who can to find out who they were. They developed a chase kind of game between themselves. Harry smiled happily at how easily his friend was able to fit in with the wild Pokemon. He even got a few good pictures of them, before he decided to return to the Town in order to have dinner and go to bed – they had a big day the next day, after all.

Harry woke early in the morning as was his habit, so he could go for a run with Ralts (who still wasn't happy about the early wake up calls). He then showered and got dressed in his designated 'travel wear'. Harry had decided that, like most travellers, he would wear just the one outfit during his travels so that he would be more easily identifiable on sight.
He had settled on black combat trousers with eight pockets (he enjoyed having storage places all over his body), and a black long-sleeved shirt. He had cut the left sleeve off at the elbow so it was easier for him tie it. He tucked the shirt in, and had a silver belt holding his trouser up at his waist. Clipped to his belt was some climbing rob and his D-Link clip. Over his shirt he had a grey denim jacket, which was also long sleeved and had two pockets on his chest. He tightly rolled the left sleeve up to where his elbow would have been, so as to keep it out of the way of his shoulder bag strap. In the right pocket was where he stored his harmonica. Stored in the upper pocket of his right leg, which was reinforced with a leather lining, was a dagger which he could use while camping or in the event that he needed to defend himself.
Stepping outside of the inn, Harry looked to his partner. "You ready, Ralts?"
"You bet I am." Ralts said, bouncing lightly on his feet.
"Then let's go get the next member of our family." Harry led the way to the lab that he had seen the day before.
The door to the lab was open, and Harry followed the directions of one of the assistants to get to an office, where he found another eleven-year-old waiting. He was taller than Harry by about half a head and relatively slim. He had brown hair which was spiked, and he was wearing a blue shirt. When Harry entered the room, the boy looked him over with contempt in his brown eyes, before they noticed the Ralt's that stood at his side.
"Why are you here? You've already got a Pokemon?" the kid demanded. Harry noticed the jealously he was trying to hid behind his superiority.
"Ralts has been my friend for many years. He will always be my first Pokemon, but he isn't my starter. My names Harry, I'm from Sark." Harry introduced himself politely, choosing to ignore the boy's tone and look. To make sure that Ralts didn't react to anything said, he placed a calming hand on his shoulder.
"Names Gary Oak, of Pallet Town." The boy introduced himself before sneering in contempt. "If you've had Ralts for so longer, why haven't you evolved him?"
Harry was saved from having to explain the principles of the Everstone, which was clearly on the bracelet on Ralt's wrist, by the arrival of another two trainers and Professor Oak. The other two potential trainers where a boy and a girl. The girl had red hair, with a fringe which was cut as a triangle in the middle, sweeping left and right. She was wearing green trousers, a black shirt and green jacket. The boy was about an inch taller than Harry and wearing a red jacket, with burgundy trousers.
Harry glanced between the three of them in amusement: Red, Green and Silver. Even Professor Oak fit the colour scheme with his white spiked hair and lab coat.
"Ah, it seems we're missing one." Professor Oak hummed thoughtfully as he looked over those who were in the room. "Never mind. Harry, I hope you don't mind going last?"
"Not at all Professor. It makes sense for those you're sponsoring to go first." Harry immediately agreed.
"I ask that you also recall your Ralts. We will only have one Pokemon out in the room at any one time so as to not scare the starters." Professor Oak glanced at the others to make sure that they knew not to release their selected Pokemon at the same time as the others.
"Of course." Harry grabbed his Pokeball and turned to Ralts who was pouting at him. Harry smiled and reached out to talk with him telepathically instead of speaking aloud. "I know you don't like the Pokeball, but it's either the Pokeball or wait outside."
"Fine" Ralts agreed, and allowed him to be return. This was only the third time Ralt's had ever been in the Pokeball because he much preferred to walk at Harry's side. He was even out when Harry had gone to school. If he was asked to return Ralts, he would simply decide to teleport home.
"Now then, lets begin shall we." Professor Oak moved to the cabinet and opened it to reveal three standard pokeballs, each with a symbol on: fire, a leaf and a water drop. Facing the three trainers that he had sponsored he smiled. "Let's go from left to right shall we. In the Pokeball with a fire is Charmander, the leaf has a Bulbasaur and the raindrop has Squirtle. Each of these Pokemon have their strengths and weaknesses, please think carefully about which one you select."
Gary Oak immediately stepped forward and selected the Pokeball with Squirtle within. He pressed the button to resize the ball and then released his new Pokemon.
"Hay Squirtle. My names Gary Oak and I'd like to be your trainer. I promise to do my best to make you as strong as I possibly can and ensure that you evolve into the best Blastoise we can manage." Gary spoke with passion and conviction. Squirtle let out an affirmative noise, and Harry felt the emotions of affirmation coming from him. With a proud smile, Gary returned Squirtle.
The girl in green stepped forward and picked up the Pokeball with Bulbasaur in it. She released her and introduced herself before then returning them once she had got affirmation from the Pokemon. Finally, the boy in red stepped forward and happily released the Charmander. It seemed that all three of them got the Pokemon that they had hoped for.
"Congratulations, you are now officially Pokemon trainers." Professor Oak returned the tray and returned with three Pokedex's. He opened each of them and typed something in them. "These are your pokedex. They contained your ID, information on your captured Pokemon and can be used to scan any wild Pokemon that you do not know the name off. Take care of these since you will need them to confirm you are registered to carry." He handed the pokedex's out in turn.
The three trainers thanked the Professor before leaving the office, all of them excited to begin their journey.
"Now, Harry let's get your Pokemon sorted out." The Professor returned to the cabinet and withdrew another two pokeballs. One had a lightning bolt symbol and the other had a fire symbol. "Now, I wasn't able to get another of the Kanto starter Pokemon in the time I had since you asked to be registered here. However, I was able to get a Pikachu and a Torchic. Which one would you like?"
Harry frowned thoughtfully. He wasn't planning on capturing an electric-type Pokemon unless one really wanted to come with him. He felt that electric type moves were one that he could teach to other Pokemon he caught, such as with Thunder punch and Thunder wave which he'd taught to Ralts, so he would be able to use these moves if he felt that the type advantage would be needed. But a fire type like Torchic would be very good member of his team. Especially since, when fully evolved, Torchic becomes a Blaziken which could learn fighting type moves just as Ralts/Gallade could.
"I'd like to speak with Torchic." Harry decided, picking up the Pokeball and releasing the Pokemon within.
"Tor, Torchic." Torchic danced between her feet when she was released. Torchic was a small bird type Pokemon with orange feathers. Her nose, wings and the plum of feathers at the back of her head were both yellow.
Crouching down so he wasn't looming over the small Pokemon, Harry reached out to telepathically communicate with her. He felt like the conversation was more genuine when done this way because they could feel each other's emotions. "Hello, Torchic. My name's Harry Potter and I'm a Pokemon trainer. I would like to offer you the opportunity to come and join my family. I've already got a Pokemon on my team, Ralts who has been with me for several years now. I promise, that if you come with me, I will help you to become as strong as I possibly can. We'll work long and hard, facing many opponents and gyms. So, what do you say?"
"You'll help me become strong, become a Blaziken?" Torchic asked happily, bouncing on the spot.
"I will. But when you become a Combusken I'll ask you to wear an Everstone for a little while as we make you as strong as possible before you evolve." Harry forewarned her.
"Okay. I'll go with you." Torchic decided.
"Well then, welcome to the team." Harry spoke aloud as he returned Torchic to her Pokeball.
"Well done." Professor Oak smile. "Now, I'm told you already have a poke-dex?"
"I've got the latest Poke-nav which also contains the poke-dex technology." Harry confirmed, pulling it from the bag at his hip and handing it over. While the professor was confirming the last of his Pokemon, and adding Torchic to his registered Pokemon list, Harry released Ralts who shuddered and did a little dance.
"I'll never get used to that." He grumbled before perking up. "Who did you pick?"
"Torchic, I'll introduce you once we're done with Professor Oak," Harry promised with a smile.
"Right, that's done." Professor Oak handed the poke-nav back. "Now, you said on your registration that you would like to become an Independent Contractor?"
"I did." Harry confirmed. The Professor hadn't confirmed whether or not he had been accepted as a Contractor, since he needed the permission of the league to do so.
"The league and myself went over your exam results, and decided that you showed a large enough understanding of Pokemon and a maturity level that we would accept you as a Contractor. Now," the Professor returned to his cabinet where he opened the door next to where he had stored the Pikachu and Torchic, and withdrew a square device. The device had two holes on the front which would fit shrunken Pokeball. There was a pair of buttons on the side and the top had a computer screen and key-pad. "This is a hunter's capture device."
"On the screen you will find a list of missions in your area within your badge limit. You will only be able to see the missions which correspond to your registered badge level, but if you see anything at S, SS or SSS level do not accept the mission and report the fault. If you press the forward button, a Pokeball will be released for you to capture Pokemon. You then place the Pokeball in the right-hand side and it will be stored until you can get to a lab or Pokemon centre, where your mission complete status and payment will be registered. Use the screen to provisionally mark the mission as complete. When you are in an area near a mission it will buzz to alert you." Professor Oak went through all the features of the Capture Device with him.

"Now there is one final thing you need to know. As you are a confirmed Independent Contractor, you have an increased carry limit of fifteen. If you obtain six badges your carry limit will be raised to eighteen. If you finished in the top twenty of the Indigo League or the Silver League, then your carry limit will be maxed to twenty-four." Professor Oak explained seriously.
"Why isn't that information included in the description of Independent Contractors?" Harry frowned. This was the first time he'd heard of having an increased carry limit because of his position. He'd been worried about capturing more Pokemon then he could bring with him although he could easily set up a training program between his Pokemon and those of the Family. But with the option of having a twenty four Pokeball limit, it was unlikely that he would ever need to send his Pokemon back since he was planning on being very selective about the Pokemon he caught.
"We don't want people applying to be a Contractor because they want to carry more Pokemon. Especially since, the more Pokemon you carry, the more money you need. The reference you had from Thomas Slytherin, as well as your results in Maths and Money management, suggests that you are very careful with money and would ensure that you have enough money to support you and your Pokemon on your journey even if you do not access your family money." Professor Oak offered him a smile that was almost proud.
"Thank you for your faith, professor. I won't let you down." Harry promised, clipping the Capture Device to his right hip so he had easy access to it.
"You'd best be on your way. I wish you luck, Mr Potter." Professor Oak smiled.
Harry nodded to the Professor and headed out. He passed a very rushed looking kid who was still in his pyjamas. Harry assumed that he was the last trainer that the professor had sponsored.
Since he was carrying his backpack, and he had already checked out of the inn, he headed straight for the forest which connected Pallet town with Viridian city. After walking the path for a few minutes, he turned into the forest until he came across a clearing. Making sure that there wasn't any wild Pokemon in his area, Harry released Torchc.
"Okay Torchic, I would like you to meet my first Pokemon: Ralts." Harry introduced the two of them. "The first thing we're going to do, is let Ralt's evolve. For the last three years, he's been wearing an Everstone since I didn't want him evolving until I began my journey and had ensured he'd reached the limit of what he can achieve as a Ralts."
"Limit!" Ralts snorted. "I'm stronger and taller than any other Ralt's on the Jura Islands."
"Are you ready?" Harry asked, choosing to ignore his sarcasm.
"Of course." Ralts held out his wrist so Harry could remove the bracelet with the Everstone on. Within moments of doing so, Ralts started glowing with evolution energy. The speed in which he started evolving once the Everstone had removed told Harry that he had been ready to evolve for a long time, and it was only the stone which prevented it. Research that had been conducted on the isles, suggest that the time after removing the stone indicative of how long past your Pokemon would have evolved without the stone: less than a second meant a year, whereas three minutes was one month. Harry stepped back with Torchic, the both of them watching in wonder. Through the white light, Harry could see the changes taking place. Ralts grew taller, with his white body raising up into a skirt like pattern around his hips.
Once the light had faded Harry was able to take in the complete changes that had been done to his first Pokemon. He had grown from 0.59metres he had reached before, to 0.83metres, which was 0.04metres taller than the average. His green hair had grown so he had longer pieces on either side of his head, but there was still a piece of hair curled over the right side of his face to expose the one red eye. The pink round domes had moved from the middle of his head, to either side of Kirlia's head. His thin green legs where now exposed, and his white arms were a bit longer.
"You look amazing, Kirlia." Harry complimented, smiling brightly.
"This feels so nice." Kirlia danced around in a circle, getting use to his new centre of gravity.
"Right, I'm going to scan the both of you with my Poke-nav so I know for certain what moves you have, and then we're going to see how strong you both are. Once that's done, we'll get going on our journey while I plan a new training program for the both of you." as he was talking, Harry pulled out the poke-nav from his hip pouch.
Kirlia: this psychic type Pokemon is said to be able to feel the positive emotions around its trainer, and when it does so, grows beautiful. The horn on Kirlia's head amplifies its psychokinetic power. When this Pokemon uses its power, the air around it can become distorted, creating mirages of non-existent scenery.
This Kirlia is Male.
Ability: Telepathy, Trace
Egg Move: Synchronize
Moves: Growl, Draining Kiss, Calm Mind, Confusion, Double team, Quick attack, Teleport, Psybeam, Hypnosis, Psychic, heal pulse, Mega punch, Mega kick, Thunder punch, Thunder wave, Swift, Helping hand, Shadow ball, Grass knot
Harry blinked in shock at the second ability that Kirlia now knew. He must have unlocked the ability when he evolved. There was a chance, that if he'd scanned Ralts with the poke-nav he would have found out about the second hidden ability before he evolved. As it was, this way was probably better since he had pushed Ralts to learn so many moves before becoming Kirlia.
"Wow, you're so powerful." Torchic chirped, jumping around Kirlia happily.
"You'll be just as powerful soon." Kirlia laughed. "Harry scan her, now."
"Alright, alright." Harry laughed at the order as he turned the poke-nav on Torchic.
Torchic. This Pokemon sticks with its trainer, following behind them with unsteady steps. Torchic can breathe fire over 1,800degrees F., storing its internal flame inside it's body makes the Torchic warm to the touch. If attacked, Torchic strikes back by spitting balls of fire. This Pokemon does not have night vision, and so dislikes being in the dark.
This Torchic is Female.
Ability: Blaze
Egg Move: Speed Boost
Moves: Scratch, Focus Energy, Ember, Peck,
"That's a decent starting set of moves." Harry hummed thoughtfully. Only the one fire type move, the rest where normal type. Focus energy would be useful for increasing the power behind Torchic's moves, to show her what she was capable off without using the move.
"Right, before we continue with our journey, I want you both to use all of your move sets, run a set distance and see how much weight you can lift at the moment. I'll use this to see where you need to improve, and to record your base states. Since you have less moves, Torchic, we'll start with you." Harry brought up the note section on his poke-nav and started a document labelled 'Torchic'.
