Chapter 8 Cursed
Iggy groaned and slumped deeper into the common room couch. His hair was starting to eat away at the couch cushions, much to his dismay. He batted at it, only for his hair to bite his finger.
"Hey!" he screeched. "Why did you do that?"
His hair just giggled like a gremlin. Iggy groaned and turned his attention to Roy down on the floor.
"How are you faring, dear older brother? Better than me, I hope."
Roy snickered. "I don't know man; you've got it pretty bad." He examined his sleek purple body. The diamond-like patterns glistened under the light, his tiny sunglasses showed a reflection of the world around him. "I actually don't mind this so much."
Larry, from up above, laughed. "I guess we can call you the 'legless wonder!'"
Roy looked up and grinned with a thoughtful expression. "That doesn't sound so bad, to be honest. The legless wonder...yeah, I like that!" He turned toward the TV. "Now, if you'll excuse me, this legless wonder is going to watch TV."
Roy slithered over to the remote. He proceeded to ram his head into the buttons as a way of turning it on. Miraculously, this seemed to work. Roy grinned up at the TV screen.
"Sweet! Double Intrigue!" He giggled as the main character walked down a dark hallway. "Sasha looks good in this episode. I wonder if she would be into snakes."
Iggy rolled his eyes just as Morton walked past. He was making his way over toward the mini fridge, and when he got there he seemed to hesitate.
"You want a snack, Morty?" Iggy asked.
"Yeah," Morton said as his stomach let out a pitiful growl. "The only problem…" he tried grabbing hold of the door handle, but his hand fazed right through. He let out a whimper. "These curses are an absolute pain!"
Iggy's hair started to growl. Iggy looked up and saw that its teeth were gritted super tight, and it looked ready to lunge. Iggy became concerned.
"Hair," he said in a cajoling tone. "Don't even think about it…"
Before Iggy could say anymore, his hair gave a rigorous tug. This forced Iggy to get up off the couch and follow his mohawk as it led him straight to his out of faze brother. Iggy barreled across the floor until he ultimately fazed right through Morton and face planted into the wall.
"Man," said Roy. "What's your hair's problem now, Iggster?"
"I think Morton offended it," Iggy said, his voice muffled due to being stuck against the wall.
Larry laughed. "That was awesome! Let me try something!" He cleared his throat. "Hey, Iggy's hair! You look like the demon-possessed top of a pineapple!"
Iggy's hair growled again, deeper this time. Before Iggy could do anything to stop it, it pulled him away from the wall and right towards the spot underneath Larry. Once it got there, it tried to pull itself off of Iggy's head and get at Larry. Fortunately for Iggy and Larry, it was unable to do so.
Larry laughed at the sight. "You know how I said you're having a monster bad hair day Iggy? Well, now it seems you're having a mad monster hair day!"
Iggy gave a dry look up toward Larry. "Yes. It would certainly appear that way."
Right at that moment, the door to the common room opened up. Wendy, Lemmy, and Ludwig all came through the door. Ludwig looked like he was just minutes away from throwing a temper tantrum. His hands were covered in cotton candy.
"We took Wendy outside," he growled. "And we ended up getting stared at in the process."
"Eah," said Lemmy. "T as o un."
Wendy just panted and scratched her head with her leg. She noticed Roy, who was still ramming his head into the remote to change the channel. Her eyes glittered.
"Bark bark!"
She lunged at Roy and picked him up with her mouth. She shook him around like a rag doll.
Roy screamed. "Make her stop!"
"Don't worry Roy; I'll aid you!" said Iggy. He cautiously approached Wendy. "Okay, Wendy. Be a good girl."
Wendy did not stop. She ran around the room, shaking Roy all the while. Iggy placed this hand on her shoulder, causing her to growl at him.
"Now, Wendy. I know that, at this point, you are incapable of thinking rationally. But can we just think rationally about this for a second?"
With that, he grabbed hold of Roy and started to tug. Wendy began to tug back, creating a tug-of-war scenario. Roy groaned and grunted in pain as his body was stretched like putty. Nevertheless, Iggy did not let go.
"Come on, Wendy!" Iggy cried. "You're being a very bad girl!"
This, miraculously, caused Wendy to stop. She loosened her grip on Roy. Because of the suddenness, Iggy, Roy, and Iggy's hair were sent barreling backwards into the wall. Iggy groaned and put his hand to his forehead. Roy looked disoriented, but thankfully he hadn't been torn to ribbons.
"Roy! Are you okay?" asked Iggy.
Roy just smiled as his head spun around in a dizzy motion.
"Hey?" He asked. "Since when can penguins fly?" Iggy slapped Roy on the head, causing the shades-wearing Koopaling to snap out of it to an extent. He looked at Iggy with a look of confusion. "Who are you?"
Iggy cast Roy a raised eyebrow. He was just about to answer his question when he heard his phone ring from his hammerspace. He took it out and felt his heart leap into his throat.
"It's Bowser!"
The other Koopalings looked shocked. They all gathered around.
"Well, answer it!" said Ludwig.
Iggy nodded and put the phone on speaker. "Hello?"
"Iggy! Thank the developer. Uh, I've just been abducted by the Shroobs and am being held in the mother ship. I have absolutely no clue what they are going to do to me, but I'm willing to bet it involves dissecting my brain."
Iggy felt his heart leap into his throat. "Di...dissecting your brain?"
"Yep!" Bowser replied with a shaky voice. "As you can imagine, I am not looking forward to that. So, can you guys come to Sparksville and rescue me? That would be really appre…"
Before Bowser could say anymore, there was a big explosion in the background. Bowser yelled at someone approaching him, only for his voice to be silenced.
"Bowser?" asked Iggy. "Bowser!"
The connection cut out. The other Koopalings looked as concerned as can be.
"What are we going to do?" Ludwig asked. "We can't go to Sparksville like this!"
Iggy sighed and stood up. "You heard Bowser. His brain could possibly be dissected. If we don't go rescue him, then we run the risk of losing him."
Wendy whimpered and tucked her tail between her legs. Iggy petted her on the head before turning back to the others.
"So, as much as we don't want to...we need to go to Sparksville."
The others let out groans.
"As if this day couldn't get any worse," said Ludwig. He turned toward the door. "Come on guys. Let's get going."
The others followed after Ludwig as he made his way out the door. It wasn't until they all left that they heard Larry call out to them.
"Uh, guys! Little help?"
