I have some work coming up in real life and that will delay the release of some chapters.
Thank you for your reviews, they keep me going!
Chapter 8 – Kleinhammer
-Before the events at the basement-
Tagor
The platform came to a halt and the warriors approached the waiting Inquisitor. Countless stormtroopers secured the surrounding area, laser lights probing every spot darkness. He did not ask how the Inquisitor knew where to wait. The elevator was one of the only sounds audible in the cave, alongside the dripping water that could be heard in the far.
The Inquisitor did not even bother saying a word and turned, indicating us to follow. And so we did. We walked into the tunnel named 12C and were soon greeted by a thousand flashlights, illuminating his and the Inquisitors forces. A thousand imperial guardsmen and some Commissars were standing at the ready, some seemed terrified, while others were confident in the Inquisitor leading them. But almost all of them were astonished, seeing the emperors finest. They made way for us to take the lead.
As they walked through the crowd, the Inquisitor broke the silence. "I sense that the eldar were here recently. Captain, you and your brothers will take the lead, protecting me, while I will guide the way. I don't think they know of our presence yet."
Tagor nodded and his brothers took the lead, forming a semi-circle around Ferdinant.
His mind wandered back to the events that brought him here.
Casur'e… The former population had supported the Tau and were branded as heretics. The Imperial Guard had to battle some PDF forces on the planet, while his force was sent to assist. There he met the eldar and against his better judgment, he made a deal. The reason being that his time in the Deathwatch thought him to view some xenos in a different light.
The eldar claimed to be seeking a soulstone of a fallen comrade, in the ruins of a town. An honourable thing to do and he agreed to aid them in their search, to escape needless bloodshed.
And what did the xenos do? They stabbed him in the back in a moment of carelessness. An intense battle followed. The arrogant eldar warlock had underestimated him and his brothers and was forced to flee. Many were lost on both sides, but the eldar did not get what they wanted of this world.
After the betrayal of the eldar on Casur'e, he found himself trying to reunite with the rest of the fleet in order to chase the Xeno Warlock. But something went very wrong when they entered the warp. They got stuck in the warp and suffered immense casualties, fighting off the warp-spawn besieging the vessel. After days of battle, they made it out, only to appear on the other side of the Imperium, on a wreck of a ship, stranded.
In his luck the Inquisitor noticed his vessel levitating dead in space among the stars. He boarded the ship and met the surviving crew. Tagor was the highest-ranking Ultramarine left alive and he decided then and there to follow the Inquisitor along, as they could not hope to reunite themselves with their Chapter again. He would not be hindered from fulfilling the emperor's duty and the Inquisitor was more than happy, having the emperors finest at his disposal.
The Inquisitor raised his hand, and everyone came to a halt, looking for enemies. They were at a dead end.
"An illusion, a weak one, but an illusion nonetheless." He said, looking at the wall of stone in front of him. Grabbing his powersword he went right through the "wall of stone" before him.
Tagor wasted not a moment and entered after him, curious at what would lay beyond.
