Chapter 8: "Mari-trash"
Marinette was, of course, still sleeping in the attic. "Only temporarily, of course," her stepmother had told her. Well, it didn't seem to be very temporary anymore.
It was so cold sometimes, though! Often when she finally finished all of her work long after midnight, the attic was so cold that she just couldn't go up there, so she'd lay down by the dying fire to keep warm.
After one such nights, Marinette woke up to Chloé, Sabrina, and her stepmother all yelling for her to come so they could order her around. She finally finished everything and then made breakfast, and was just lighting the fireplace when they came down to eat.
"In the future, could we not be called until all the work is done?" Lila demanded, yawning.
"Oh it is, madam. I'm just starting the fire," Marinette replied, standing up and going to get the food and dishes.
Her stepmother and stepsisters all sat down, and as she was passing Lila with the dishes, Lila said, "what is on your face?"
"Madam?" Marinette asked, confused. She hadn't tripped over her own feet and face planted into any dishes of food today, had she?
"I think it might be ash, from the fireplace," Sabrina mused.
"Ew, that's disgusting, utterly disgusting! You'll get cinders in my- I mean our- tea!" Said Chloé.
"Do clean yourself up," Lila said, looking repulsed.
Marinette hastily muttered an apology and wiped off her face, hiding her fury.
"Oh, I've got a new name for you, Cinder-wench!" Said Chloé.
"How about... Mari-dirt?" Lila chimed in. Marinette knew that Chloé would make fun of her any chance she got, sometimes forcing Sabrina to do it to, but this was a new low!
"Mari-trash!" Chloé decided. "That's what we'll call you!"
"Oh Chloé, you're too clever!" Lila praised. Marinette wasn't sure if she was going to murder them, or just start crying. She noticed that Sabrina's laugh sounded forced though, perhaps she just had to kill the other two... wait, what? No killing! Be kind, remember?
Marinette forced her anger down, and put her plate on the table.
"Oh, who's this for? Is there someone that we've... forgotten?" Lila asked with mock sweetness.
"Uh, It's my place..." Marinette replied, thinking that it was pretty obvious. Wait, what was her stepmother up to?
"Oh, isn't it too much to expect you to make the breakfast, serve it, and still sit with us? Wouldn't you rather eat when all the work is done... Mari-trash?" She said, smirking.
Marinette was shocked. Barely holding back her tears, she took the plate and walked back to the kitchen amid pearls of cruel laughter.
She tried to place the plate on the kitchen table, but it slipped through her numb fingers and shattered. Sobbing, she crumpled to the floor.
Why were they so horrible to her? She-she had to get out of there, even if only for a little while! She just- needed to escape all this! Getting up and running outside, she jumped onto her horse and fled into the woods, crying.
A/N: Sorry if it's not that great, this scene was pretty hard to write. There's just one more chapter before the forest scene! We're so close to all that lovely Marichat! You're gonna love it (hopefully, but it'd probably be hard not to)!
Potato: I agree, poor Marinette! I'm sorry for everything I've made them do to her, and this chapter is worse than last one... hey Marinette! Just blame Disney... it's their fault, since I'm going off their movie, right? Hehehe... anyways! Ya your name is kinda funny but I like it (:
