One-Shot 10: Love Around the PokéBlock
Around the Lilycove market, Otane, Kelly and Grumpig were touring for some fresh food. "It still boggles my mind as to how being a Pokémon Coordinator helps with taking over the family company," Otane shrugged.
"Mom, relax…" assured Kelly. "It's recognition. Besides, I want to have people see what PokéBlock can do." Otane smirked as they stopped by a stall. "Hey, new Berries!" Grumpig liked the new Berries.
("Let's get some to try,") he suggested. Kelly nodded before she picked and bought them.
"Feel better?" asked Otane.
"Nope," Kelly sneered. "When I get to knowing these Berries, the process begins." As they reached their shop. After unpacking their load of groceries, Kelly came to the PokéBlock Berry Blender and prepared to cut up the Berries. "I wonder if there is some PokéBlock people can eat?"
"Kelly, seriously. What makes you think people would eat PokéBlock?"
"I heard from another PokéBlock Maker of how Ash tried it, even though it's not meant for human consumption… but maybe there's a way it can work." Otane scoffed to the idea.
"If there's a way, you'll be doing a huge service to people all over the world."
"Hey, nothing wrong with that." She began to work on an idea. Otane and Grumpig wondered on Kelly's operation. She began mixing Berries with other foods.
"She's not serious…" The rest of the evening continued before Kelly fell asleep. Grumpig grabbed a blanket and draped it on her before examining a few colored blocks. The next morning, Kelly tried her new creations, but gagged at it.
"Not it." She began to ponder when her Manipulate Pokémon tried it himself. He gagged himself. "Yeah, I didn't think it would work for you, either." Grumpig shook his head.
"Maybe it's not the time for PokéBlock for people." The outcome made Kelly doubt her vision. After an hour, she and Grumpig walked out of the shop and walked aimlessly.
"Maybe Mom's right. Making PokéBlock for people is too soon. I guess I want to make things genuine for Ash and his friends, knowing how much they travel around." As they walked, they passed Ash, Brock, May, Max and Pikachu coming down another street. "I would ask Ash what he likes and then further experiment to making people's PokéBlock." Not needing to hold his silence, Ash chose to make themselves known.
"Are you sure you can make something like that?" he asked. Kelly and Grumpig paused and turned to the group.
"What in the-" she gawked.
"Nice to see you, too," May greeted. Kelly mulled to being discovered about her project.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" asked Brock. Kelly nodded as they stepped inside with a Spoink behind. Hearing Spoink bouncing, Pikachu turned to see the Bounce Pokémon.
("Is that the Spoink we see?") he squeaked. Everyone turned around as Spoink bounced on its tail.
"Oh no…" hushed Max. Sure enough, Spoink slipped and its pearl flew off the head. Luckily, Grumpig was in a perfect spot to catch the pearl.
"Nice catch, Grumpig!" praised May. Grumpig presented Spoink its pearl as it stood back up. Using Psychic, Spoink returned the pearl to its rightful place.
"At least, we don't have to go running around for it," Ash laughed. "Wanna join us?" Spoink happily bounced and accepted the offer. They sat at a table in a restaurant. The Pokémon enjoyed Brock's Pokémon Food.
"I wanna know what would possess you to create PokéBlock for people," Max started.
"I heard about Ash trying anything edible from others who've made PokéBlock," Kelly explained. Ash nervously laughed to the claim.
"Of course, we can't forget that with food, Ash won't skip it, even if it's not intended for him," Brock reminded.
"I'm not that bad, Brock," Ash muttered. Kelly giggled to the information.
"That's why I wanted to try my hands on creating PokéBlock for human consumption," she repeated. "That way, it can help struggling trainers out in deserts like the Valley of Steel or Azalea Town in Johto."
"Okay, so a boost to those who can't make it out of a wasteland in one day," May guessed.
"And I'd be on board with the idea," Ash added. "Still, it's a long way before something like that becomes real." Kelly nodded to the outcome.
"It's a shame that something like PokéBlock for people will be awhile," she murmured. Ash patted Kelly's shoulder.
"One day, it'll happen." he assured. "You just focus on making new recipes for Pokémon to enjoy." Feeling Ash's warm and gloved hand, and his confidence, Kelly blushed.
"Right…" she accepted. After they ate, the kids and Pokémon exited. Kelly seemed interested to Spoink. "You know, what if Spoink wants to be trained by one of you, guys?" The trainers snickered to Kelly's thought.
"I mean, we could have Spoink join us," May thought. "A Psychic Pokémon would be a great partner in my contests." Spoink felt honored with the offer. That's when a smokescreen plumed around the trainers and Pokémon. Ash realized who was attacking while everyone covered up.
"Really!?" he scowled. Shrills of fear wailed from the Pokémon. "Pikachu!" Laughs told everyone the real attackers in a hot-air balloon. Pikachu, Grumpig and Spoink were in a net.
"Prepare for trouble," Jessie warned. "Your Pokémon are taken with a yoink!"
"Make it double," James added. "We have Pikachu, Grumpig and a Spoink!"
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all peoples within our nation!" At one point, Team Rocket's eyes were closed. Ash unleashed a plan.
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jessie!"
"And James!"
"Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare to fight, fight, fight!"
"Meowth, dat's right!" mewed Meowth before finding a problem. "But dis ain't!" Ash summoned Grovyle to free the Pokémon. Those in the hot-air balloon looked shocked.
"How-" stuttered Jessie. "When- Just what-" Ash billowed a sigh.
"This is ridiculous," he muttered. "You'd think with how long you guys chased me to get Pikachu, you'd have a better idea on how to avoid mistakes that makes young kids laugh." The nag made Max and Kelly laugh.
"Youse two were boasting our motto dat he used Grovyle's Leaf Blade to spring da Spoink!" barked Meowth angrily.
"Hey, it's part of our reputation!" bellowed Jessie. "You actually played a part of it!"
"Then, we'll have to do it the hard way!" ordered James. "Cacnea! Let's-" Before James could summon Cacnea, Spoink used Confuse Ray. It nailed James in the eyes to which he felt bewildered. "What- What… hit… me?"
"That's Spoink's Confuse Ray!" studied Brock. Dazed, James clocked Jessie in the back of the head. She turned back, enraged.
"Hey!" she snapped. "What was that for!?" She began to pummel James until he felt pain and regained his senses.
"What was that for!?" he whined.
"Don't blame him for dat Confuse Ray hit!" scowled Meowth.
"I'll blame whoever I want to blame!" retorted Jessie loudly. Ash and Kelly turned to each other and nodded.
"Ready, Spoink?" called out Ash.
"Time to help out, Grumpig!" urged Kelly. The primary and evolutionary forms glanced to Ash and Kelly, then to each other and nodded.
"Pikachu, Grovyle, get ready!" prepped Ash. The Mouse and Wood Gecko Pokémon braced themselves. That's when they called upon the pigs.
"Psychic attack!" they commanded in unison. Spoink and Grumpig's bodies were aglow and they enveloped Pikachu and Grovyle in a veil. They were flying up to the balloon. Ash eyed the next move.
"Pikachu, Iron Tail!" he shouted. "Grovyle, Leaf Blade!" In a flash, Pikachu and Grovyle passed the basket with Pikachu's tail aglow with Grovyle's leaves. Team Rocket looked to the two Pokémon that passed them. Thanks to Spoink and Grumpig, Ash's Pokémon landed safely on the ground. With nothing happening, Jessie scoffed.
"I think you need to teach Pikachu how to aim!" she sneered. Ash flashed a grin.
"Are you sure?" he laughed. "You may be having a… hairy situation!" Jessie blinked before feeling her hair with it incredibly short. Jessie's hair was shaven down to her scalp, as was James. She bellowed a blood-curdling scream.
"MY HAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR~!" she wailed. Fueled by a burning rage, she was ready to leap down when the burner began to spark and they heard it.
"I guess our hair wasn't the only thing cut!" cried James.
"DEY GOT DA BURNER!" yelled Meowth. A massive explosion from the burner ruptured Team Rocket as they flew far and crashed into a side of a building, adjacent to where Officer Jenny stood by. Recognizing the uniforms, Jenny had a sneer.
"Sorry, sisters…" she laughed as she presented handcuffs. "This Officer Jenny's gor a few Rockets grounded." After that moment, Ash and his friends returned to Otane's home. May was working on several Berries to throw in to the blender.
"What's that recipe?" questioned Kelly.
"It's a special mix of berries made especially for Munchlax and Snorlax," May briefed. Kelly nodded, believing the recipe would help control Pokémon with big appetites.
"Nice!" she giggled. Then, she came to Ash. "Anyway, Ash… I want to make it up to you for today."
"Why?" he asked. "You didn't do anything that upset us."
"Really?" blinked Kelly. "I thought what I said when you guys appeared was rude." Ash scoffed with a smile.
"Not as rude as what we did to Team Rocket," he snickered. "Right, Spoink? Grumpig, you too?" Spoink and Grumpig cheered to stopping Team Rocket.
"You know, I think Spoink would want to join you on your journey," Otane suggested. Ash and Spoink gawked to the offer.
"Are you sure?" wondered Ash. "I mean, we've seen him a few times when he loses his pearl like the time we traveled the islands and found him afloat. Then, befriending a Clampearl who gave up its pearl as a thanks for protecting them."
"That way, Spoink won't worry about losing his pearl," Kelly added. To Ash, it would mean another Pokémon to have on standby.
"Also, that would be your seventh Pokémon," Brock spoke up. "But you can send him to Professor Oak's ranch." To Ash, Spoink would be another Pokémon in his pursuit to becoming a Pokémon Master.
"So, what do you say, Spoink?" he offered. "Wanna join up?" Spoink's eyes watered, tears of joy flowing. He bounced happily to the idea. "Okay!" Ash grabbed a Pokéball and prepared for the capture. "Pokéball, go!" He threw the ball that hit Spoink who became a red light before going into the ball. After a few seconds, a chime. The Pokéball stopped and Ash became elated. "All… RIGHT! I caught a Spoink!" Pikachu cheered to the new friend. Kelly came to Ash with more.
"Well, we can now be related," she joked. "And… I've… held this for a little while, hoping you'd come back here."
"Which I did," Ash pointed out. "With my friends."
"True, but you're the pig I wanna feed, no PokéBlocks about it." She pounced and got Ash on the lips with a kiss. Everyone gasped in shock to the sight.
"Oh… my…" hushed Otane. Max itched his head.
"That's not something to expect," he gulped. May and Brock growled in anger.
"Why that Ash!?" she urged. "Always hogging everything!" Brock's eyes watered, tears of sadness setting in.
"He's gonna be bringing home the bacon, now!" he cried. Ash may have a new Pokémon, but Kelly's found a new pig to slop around in a Spoink… and not the Pokémon.
