The demon hit the ground with a hard thud. Lacking his usual cat-like grace, he landed on his upper back and shoulders, skidding to a stop in the dirt. Hiei groaned, coughing on the dust, and rolled over. As he lurched to a sitting position, he looked around blearily. He saw Kuwabara laying sprawled in a pile of rocks, but no one else. Yuske, Kurama, Botan and Yukina were nowhere to be found. He staggered to his feet slowly, painfully. He tried to call out to Kuwabara but wound up in a coughing fit, still trying to clear the dust from his lungs.
"Get up you oaf!" Hiei rasped harshly at the prone man, but Kuwabara didn't move. Hiei scoffed and grumbling walked over to him and kicked his side. The much larger man rolled without complaint to his back. Kuwabara didn't so much as twitch.
Hiei swore.
Kuwabara had landed hard on a pile of broken rocks, he was bleeding profusely from his head. Hiei listened, leaning over the mans face to check for breathing but he heard none. Kuwabara's spirit energy was fading.
"Oh no you don't.." the smaller man snarled as he dragged Kuwabara out of the rubble. He lay him flat on his back and began doing what he hoped were chest compressions. This was a thing one did to revive a human, right? He hoped. He tried to be mindful of Kuwabara's comparatively fragile human body. He checked the man again. No good..
Hiei tried hard to remember the next part, having seen it done only once when Kurama had rescued a nearly drowned Keiko (while Yuske flailed about uselessly) from a botched beach trip when she had been caught in a rip. He grimaced as he pinched Kuwabara's nose shut and sealed his mouth over the unconscious man's. Just.. don't die. Hiei hoped silently. He then exhaled as hard as he could. Kuwabara's eyes shot open, and they locked on Hiei's for a moment.
"Mm!?" He threw the demon off his chest and rolled to his side coughing. "What is Wrong with you?" He coughed and sputtered wiping his mouth on his sleeve.
"I was trying to SAVE you!" Hiei Spat back, climbing to his feet to look down at Kuwabara. He sneered. "It's called C.P. and R." He folded his arms and looked down his nose at the still sputtering man.
"Huh?" Kuwabara looked up at him for just a moment in pause before bursting into hysterical laughter. "Wait…Wut?"
"You hit your head," Hiei complained. "What else should I have done?"
Kuwabara made his way to his feet still laughing. "No no, its uh…fine, I just... I wasn't expecting that, also, I wasn't drowning…" He swallowed "or uh… having a heart attack" He tried to look serious for a moment before busting helplessly back into peals of laughter. Hiei, gritted his teeth and kicked the man's shin hard enough that the laughter ended abruptly with a snort and a yelp.
"Hnn" hiei grumped and turned to survey their surroundings. They seem to have landed on a hilltop on the edge of a forest. The lights of a town twinkled in the not to far off distance.
"Hey, uh.. Where are we?" Kuwabara, said as he walked up beside him seemingly recovered from his fit.
"Oh good, seems you're finally awake." Hiei sneered. "I don't know. Yukina and the others are nowhere to be seen either.."
"Dah! Yukina!" Kuwabara Exclaimed, and began calling her name.
"Stop that you FOOL!" Hiei snarled. "We don't know where we are, or who else might be here. We should move.. it's getting dark. Let us make our way to the city to scout. If the others are nearby they will undoubtedly be thinking the same thing."
"But…what if they aren't…or or! What if they're hurt? Hiei!? What if Yukina is hurt! She'll NEED me!" Kuwabara was quickly working himself into a panic.
Hiei bristled at that last remark "SHUT...your face-hole!" He turned to the taller man and stuck a bandaged finger in his face. You Forget yourself, HUMAN. She is of My ilk, not one of you fragile creatures and won't be taken down so easily. She is not some helpless faun and she doesn't need you or anyone else. She is a Demon. And If she were in danger or somehow unable to move, she would simply freeze solid everything within a quarter mile and be utterly protected.. That would be Very easy to find. Don't you think?" He stuffed his hands into his pockets and began to walk away down the hill towards the town. "Now if you're finished frothing over things we can't control... let's go."
