The Interview

In a darkened room somewhere in the South East of England, two figures sit opposite each other. In between them is a table, above the table a strong spotlight shines down upon them. One of them is Speckles in his human form, that other is Gareth. Writer of two recent Fan Fiction stories. Both are ready for long awaited interview session…

Speckles: Now then Mr. XXXXX. For that is your name is it not, Gareth XXXXX? Before we begin our well deserved holiday break there are a few things I would like to discuss with you. Is that Okay?

Gareth: Certainly Mr. Speckles. And yes that is my name, it is a silly name but I've had it for XX years so what can you do? Ask me anything and I will do my best to answer.

Speckles: First off, I was just a happy little dinosaur franchise until you came along and made me into the font of all wisdom and heroism. Now everyone's looking to me to save the world and frankly it is a heavy responsibility. Do you have anything to say about this?

Gareth: It's cause and effect my friend. I was just a happy little photographer of live bands till, let's say a certain virus stopped the music. Lockdown came and for a while I was smoking, playing video games, going for walks and not much else. After a time it got very repetitive. I began to hate the smoking very much and decided to quit. Consequence of that was my emotions began running riot. It was at that point we met for the first time. I watched Speckles The Tarbosaurus on May 11th and our lives were never the same. I've covered a lot of this in my profile so here we will discuss different things.

Speckles: Okay, I'd like to talk about the openings for your stories. Obviously you explained the reasons for "What Might Have Been" on your profile so we'll get back to that. Now "Every End" that begins story two, I understand you were paying homage to 28 Days Later where the monkey is being bombarded with news reports and footage. But that phrase "He's the one doing all this he just doesn't know why." What exactly was this?

Gareth: True story. I was having a dream this one time. Nothing special, just a regular dream. Suddenly, I was pulled into the air and cried out this particular phrase and woke up with a big jump. It stuck with us. And I thought it would be a good way to break you out of that vision you were receiving from 2020. Originally I went with "It is a scene FROM HEAVEN" simply because it mirrored "It is a scene FROM HELL" from the first opening. But it just seemed like nonsense after I thought about it!

Speckles: Yes, about that. That was a very dark and potentially off-putting phrase right at the start of your endeavor. Why did you go with that?

Gareth: The original phrase I think went like "It was a scene FROM HELL." There is a 1998 video game called Xenogears. There was much exposition on disc 2 during which this phrase came up and it stuck with me down the years. I did debate with myself endlessly about putting it in the stories opening but it just wanted to go there. It was the end of all life on earth at that point, it seemed to belong there.

Speckles: I think there is one more phrase I would like to ask about. "Every end has a beginning, every beginning has an end, over and over and over until there's nothing left." What is it and how did you come up with it?

Gareth: It's not as complex as you might think. Way back when I was just imagining a teaser trailer for another Speckles movie, the White Dino simply leaned over Blue Eyes and said something. It wasn't audible, just a silent phrase. Come the main movie, I wanted him to have an actual phrase to speak. Something that sums up the entire story and brings Blue Eyes back to life. And it literally popped into my head. It's generally how I feel anyway. We all live on a circle that travels in a circle around another circle. So no matter how far you run, you will always end up back at the start. I wanted to reflect that in both my stories.

Boxing Humanity didn't need to exist, but I wanted two stories which in effect both support and oppose each other. Read The Return Of Blue Eyes, read Boxing Humanity then read The Return Of Blue Eyes again but different. That's what I was going for anyway. I'm kind of new at this!

Speckles: Phew! You came up with all of this because of Blue Eyes' death scene in my original movie? How many times did you watch it anyway?

Gareth: Oh blimey! During what I call my Speckles addiction, I watched Dino King about forty times and Dino King 2 thirty times. So when I decided to start writing Return Of Blue Eyes I knew the events, characters and locations pretty well!

Speckles: I think you need to get out more mate!

Gareth: Oh I agree. But again with the cause and effect. Because of your movies I quit smoking, went out for walks more often and started writing stories. And although the death of Blue Eyes upset me greatly at the time, if she hadn't died in the movie, would we be having this conversation right now?

Speckles: Well it's certainly a lot to think about. I can't think of much else to cover, we've taken enough of everyone's time! Final question, are your two stories it, or can we expect another one?

Gareth: I believe I have enough ideas and sequences for a final story. But this one I will take my time with. Speckles 3 I wrote in a fever dream of emotions over two weeks. Speckles 4 I bashed out over three days on some huge FanFic high. Speckles 5 will be a full ending and may take a while. It won't be that big though. Return Of Blue Eyes will always be the main event!

Speckles: So there you have it readers. Speckles 5 coming soon! Maybe! There's really nothing else to cover. Mr. XXXXX thank you so much for your time, it's been an insane and unbelievable year. Nothing will ever be the same again.

Gareth: And thank you very much Mr. Speckles. I hope you enjoy your holidays and here's hoping we will meet again one day soon. And thank you to all Fan Fiction readers out there. You inspire me to write more! This site has changed my life!

Speckles and Gareth: Goodbye everyone and thanks for your time!

Gareth: Oh you bent my arm. Available now Speckles 5- The Circle Completes.
