Sentence Prompt: "Pathetic. You're pathetic."
Cavernstar usually liked the full moon.
It wasn't because of the newfound idea of 'Gatherings', it was mostly because he liked the light. It was almost as if you could see things better at night than you could in the daylight, for once.
Still, Cavernstar wished that he could disappear now.
"You should stick to your borders." Streamstar hissed, lashing her tail as she prowled closer to Poppy- Darkstar, Cavernstar reminded himself, who stared back with an even amber gaze, seeming to find the whole exchange funny.
"Please, it's a few fox-lengths, if that." The white-spotted she-cat sneered, leaning back on the branch she was perched on. "Along with that, it's not even your border, or your problem!"
"Yes, but Springstar asked for my help, so it's now my problem." Streamstar shot back, narrowing her icy blue eyes. She glanced at Cavernstar. "Are you going to say anything?"
Cavernstar stood there silently for a few seconds, lost for words, before deciding that yes, he probably should say something, as it was clear that he was the only neutral one in this conflict.
"Well… maybe there could be a way to resolve this." He started cautiously, a careful gaze flickering to an enraged Streamstar to Darkstar, who was staring at him neutrally, her mouth pressed into a thin line of disapproval.
Cavernstar tried to ignore her best he could, even though, admittedly, it did hurt.
"I just… maybe you could come to a compromise over this border dispute?" He asked, glancing at the three of them. "I mean… Poppy- I mean, Darkstar…" He stumbled over his words nervously before continuing. "You don't really want to fight this, do you? It's not worth it."
Darkstar shrugged nonchalantly, narrow gaze flickering to Streamstar again. "Maybe it is…"
So she's doing it just to piss Streamstar off? For Starclan's sake, Poppy, this isn't worth it.
"It's not." Cavernstar pressed, green gaze narrowing with annoyance. "But there's no need for blood, or anything, to be wasted on such a petty and pointless thing."
Streamstar seemed doubtful of herself, nodding half-heartedly, but Darkstar raised a skeptical eyebrow, gaze narrowed.
"Just what I was expecting…" She murmured condescendingly under her breath.
"What do you want me to do?" Cavernstar's temper rose. "It's not my business, Poppy, and to be frank, it's not yours either."
"My name is not Poppy." The black she-cat growled, shoving her muzzle close to his, amber eyes blazing with rage. "My name is Darkstar."
She paused, before settling back again, her next words cold.
"God, you're pathetic." She muttered.
Cavernstar tried to feel indignant about that response, try to muster some sort of displeasure, but that stung, and he only flinched slightly, pretending as if he hadn't heard her words.
"W-What did you say to me?" He half-growled, half-whimpered, green eyes wide with shock.
"I said that you're a great leader, obviously." Darkstar snapped, rolling her eyes. "I mean, please, I said you're pathetic. Pathetic, Cavernstar. You're pathetic."
There was a commotion over that, several Cavernclan cats clambering to their paws and shouting loudly in defiance, but Cavernstar only stood there, mouth slightly open as he fumbled for some kind of response.
"I…"
"You really have to make everyone feel awful, don't you?" Streamstar hissed, stepping forwards. Cavernstar only sat down heavily, not saying anything.
He barely heard Darkstar and Streamstar's argument continue, trying to keep tears from falling, because for Starclan's sake, he was a leader, not some weepy-eyed apprentice.
Yet, when he was called pathetic, he fell apart. Not because of the word. Honestly, he might use it to describe himself on a daily basis.
It was who said it. The way that Poppy, his best friend, the cat who he had trusted, and had known his flaws, his fears, his insecurities… she had gone and rubbed salt in the biggest wound he had.
He didn't know what to do now. Everything seemed to be fading, but he knew one thing for sure.
Poppy wasn't there anymore. He wasn't dealing with a bouncing, sarcastic ball of energy anymore. He was dealing with Darkstar, a wild, out of control leader with shadow powers.
But despite all of that, she did tell the truth.
He really was pathetic.
awwww Cavernstar you poor bean
he's too emotional oof
anyways uhhHH I dunno if this has enough words for a challenge oops but still stay safe, and leave a review or something thanks!
Have a good day (or night) and keep writing!
