A/N: Hey guys! So, here's the next chapter, I hope y'all enjoy!
"Well, no shit sherlock. We wouldn't lie about that." Abby says, rolling her eyes as she pushed past Michael, kneeling in front of Ellie. Ellie looked up weakly at Abby, who took her jacket out of her backpack and helped Ellie put it on, trying to keep the girl's dignity intact. Michael looked at Ellie, still wary of her. In his time with the fireflies, he had only ever known on one immune person and that had been almost seven years prior.
"Okay, come on Ellie. On your feet." She says, putting Ellie's arm around her shoulders and helped her stand, catching her when she stumbled slightly. Abby led Ellie out of the office, growing more worried about Ellie and feeling as though she had gotten worse overnight.
"I feel gross," Ellie mumbled, leaning her whole weight on Abby.
"I know but we'll be back soon and then you can get changed. I just need you to hang in there okay?" She asks as the rest of their group went ahead of them, walking down the streets as they started to leave the city.
"You know, I just find it suspicious that the only immune person we know of was taken from us years ago and then all of a sudden William's shows up." Michael says, glaring at Ellie again when they stopped for her to rest.
"What are you saying?" Ellie asks, sitting down against an old car.
"I'm just saying that you better start explaining before I make you." He says, stepping forward threateningly.
"Are you fucking threatening me?" Ellie asks, standing up a little too fast and walking over to him, ignoring the intense dizziness and pain she felt.
"Hey, everyone just calm down!" Rebecca snaps as Abby placed herself between Ellie and Michael, trying to keep the two from getting physical. Abby was more concerned for Ellie's safety than Michael's, especially since Ellie was possibly pregnant.
"You bet I'm threatening you. Start talking or I'm going to make you." He says again, this time through gritted teeth.
Ellie couldn't stop herself, lunging forward and getting a good punch in before Abby grabbed her around the waist, holding her back with ease while Kyle held Michael back. Adrenaline was coursing through Ellie's veins as she fought against Abby's hold, wanting nothing more than to beat the shit out of Michael.
"You fucking cunt!" He says, trying to get out of Kyle's grip. Now he really wanted to kill Ellie.
"Both of you stop! We need to get back to base but we can't if you two are acting like children!" Rebecca yelled above the commotion, causing the two of them to stop their struggle. Ellie's adrenaline was finally fading as she calmed down, groaning as her feet gave way from under her.
"Yeah, bet you wish you just explained yourself."
"She doesn't have to explain anything to you!" Abby snapped, bending down and helping Ellie up as everyone started to make their way back to base, "here let me carry you."
"No, Abby. I'll be fine." Ellie grumbled, leaning all her weight against Abby again as they made their way back to Indianapolis.
Ellie felt as though everything was spinning as they walked, the pain in her back and legs growing worse as she walked. She wasn't going to let Abby carry her unless she literally keeled over and couldn't walk anymore.
"Okay, Abby let me boost you up." Kyle says as he went over to a RV turned on its side, their final hurdle before getting back to the hospital.
Abby looked at Kyle and then Ellie, not wanting to let go of her for fear she would fall.
"It's okay, Abby. I can take her." Rebecca says, putting Ellie's other arm around her shoulders, letting Ellie rest all her weight against her. Abby made sure that Rebecca had a good grip on Ellie before putting her foot into Kyle's cupped hands, boosting her up to the top of the RV.
"Alright, come on Ellie. You're up." Kyle says, keeping his hands cupped as Rebecca helped Ellie stand up straight. Ellie weakly lifted her foot up, putting it into Kyle's cupped hand and the older man boosted her up into Abby's outstretched hand.
Ellie used what was left of her strength to help Abby pull her up over the top of the RV, jumping down to the other side and groaning as she sat against the vehicle. Abby helped everyone over the RV and jumped down herself, kneeling beside Ellie.
"Alright, come on Ellie." She says, picking Ellie up and starting to follow the group back to the hospital. Ellie rested her head against Abby's chest, groaning as more pain shot through her body.
Abby walked through the doors of the hospital where Darren was talking with Gabriel. The two men looked up, taking a double take when they saw the state Ellie was in.
"We were wondering when you'd get back. We almost sent out a search party for you guys." Darren says, looking over at Michael, "what the hell happened to you?" He asks as he saw his bloody nose.
Michael glared, "I need to talk to you."
Darren nodded and went up the stairs for the two of them to talk in his office while Gabriel looked at Ellie and Abby.
"What happened here?" Gabriel asks, looking Ellie over.
"She fell through a floor and she's hurt. Can you look at her?"
Gabriel nodded, gesturing for her to follow him up the stairs. Abby followed close behind as Gabriel led them through the double doors at the end of the hall.
"Alright, put her down here." He says, opening the door to a private room and gesturing for Abby to put Ellie on the bed, "so what exactly happened?"
"She fell through a floor on patrol and got attacked by a bloater. She can barely walk, and she hasn't stopped vomiting." She says as Gabriel put a blood pressure cuff around Ellie's upper arm.
"How long has she been sick for? Did this just start when she got attacked?"
"She told me that she's been sick for a couple days but as far as I know the vomiting just started yesterday." She explains as Gabriel read the blood pressure gauge.
"It's eighty over forty. Her blood pressure is too low, how long has it been since she's eaten or drunk anything?"
"Probably the night before last. She didn't eat yesterday morning or today."
Gabriel nodded as he started inserting an IV into Ellie's arm, making her flinch.
"Well, I want to keep her for observation over the next twenty-four hours," He says, taking out a stethoscope and listening to Ellie's heartbeat, "here help me sit her up. I want to see what she did to her back."
Abby nodded, helping Ellie get into a sitting position, which made her groan. Sitting up only exasperated her pain and discomfort. Gabriel lifted the back of Ellie's shirt, seeing bruises along her back from the fall she had taken. The doctor started pressing his hands against her spine as he tried to pinpoint the source of Ellie's pain, stopping when she groaned at a certain spot.
"On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your pain?"
"Can I go higher than 10?" Ellie asks, taking a deep breath, swallowing thickly. Abby grabbed the trash can in the corner of the room, holding it out for Ellie, who promptly threw up again.
"Alright, I can give you pain medication, and we can see how you handle that before going any further. I believe you have a mild case of sciatica but before I do more tests, is there anything else I should know?"
"El, want to tell him what you told me?" Abby asks, giving Ellie a look.
"I think I'm pregnant."
Gabriel nodded, "well that would explain the vomiting. When was your last period?" He asks, taking Ellie's arm and trying to find a vein for a blood draw.
"March 6th."
Gabriel nodded as he inserted the needle, starting to draw blood for tests when there was a knock on the door and Darren poked his head in.
"Hey Gabriel? Can I see you in my office?"
"Yeah, let me just finish up here and I'll be on my way."
Darren nodded, leaving the room again as Gabriel pulled the needle out of Ellie's arm.
"Okay, put this gown on and get some rest." He says, taking a blue gown out of a cabinet and placing it on the bed, taking the vial of blood and leaving the room.
Ellie sighed as she painfully got up, taking her clothes off and putting the gown on. She was grateful that she finally had something clean to wear after spending the whole night covered in her vomit. Ellie climbed into bed, laying on her side since that was the only position that didn't cause her immense pain.
"They're going to kill me for a cure now." She says softly, looking up at Abby, who sat in a chair next to the bed.
"I'm not going to let them touch you. I promise, okay? I will kill everyone in this hospital if they even try."
Ellie smiled faintly as she closed her eyes and finally allowed herself to drift off.
