-Annie Cresta-

"Well, I gotta go now," Johanna groans, cutting my words off. She's already walked across more than half the soccer field when she turns her head and shouts, "Hey, ginger!"

Confused, I look around the field for any redheads and point at myself. "Me?"

"Yeah, you!" she shouts back. "Watch out for Cato!"

What?

I turn my head to Cato with questioning eyes to find him wearing a bored expression, not even looking like he cares.

"Ignore her. She's probably just kidding," he says, rolling his eyes.

"Ohh...Yep, got it," I reply. Maybe it was some kind of a hidden joke between the two or something.

We head to class, and that's when I realize that I've missed homeroom, barely on time with the first class. I take a quick glance at my binder to check my schedule:

Annie Cresta, 10th grade

Homeroom: Mr. Cinna Vaught

1st period: English

2nd period: Art

3rd period: World History

4th period: Biology

-Lunch-

5th period: Algebra l

6th period: Spanish

7th period: Drama

Right. So first I've got Biology.

I run across the hallway, taking a few wrong turns but managing to find the classroom in the end.

The teacher, Mrs. Trinket, nods her head, looking a bit annoyed.

"Katniss Everdeen, I assume?" she asks.

"Um..no," I reply. "That's not me. I'm-"

"IT'S ME!"

A shout rings across the room, and a girl in one of the seats stands up and walks over to Mrs. Trinket.

"Present," she sighs. "There, I said it."

The teacher huffs, writing something down on her clipboard, making the girl-Katniss- groan again and roll her eyes.

"Can I take my seat now?" she asks, and Mrs. Trinket waves her off, turning to face me.

"Why, hello!" she smiles. "You must be the new student, Annie Cresta."

"Uh...yeah," I awkwardly smile back at her, "That's me."

"Well, Annie, please excuse the slight... squabble. Miss Everdeen here," she says, pointing at the girl from earlier, "has been showing unexpected misbehavior towards her educator during attendance."

The girl-Katniss, I think- sighs, rolling her eyes again. "I literally said 'HERE' a thousand times. YOU were the one who insisted on me saying 'present'."

"Just...what's the difference, anyway?" she sighs.

Mrs. Trinket scoffs, brushing her hands off on her skirt. "There is a very fine difference between a lazy 'I'm hereee' and a polite 'present, ma'am', thank you. Manners, please."

"Gosh, why are you so-"

"Now, back to Miss Cresta," Mrs. Trinket says, cutting off the rest of Katniss's words and thus leaving her thoroughly annoyed. "It's nice to meet you, Annie. My name is Effie Trinket, and I will be acting as your English teacher for the year. Now please take a seat."

I shuffle to the back of the room, walking to the closest empty seat.

Mrs. Trinket sighs, fixing her extremely puffy platinum blonde hair. "Alright, class. As you all know, they're is a new student today. Everyone, please say hello to Miss Annie Cresta."

Nods and incomprehensible grumbles rise from the students, putting a frown on the teacher's face.

"Okay. Unenthusiastic class behavior," she huffs. "Now, Miss Annie, please introduce yourself to the class."

About 20 pair of eyes turn to me, their glares screaming, 'Do not bother us on a Monday morning.'

I can already tell that English is not the class for me.
