"How did you get in here?!" Gabriel demanded, glaring at the villain.

"I followed you fools," Night Shade grinned, closing his fist around his prize, "Did you forget about me? I should be offended."

"Night Shade!" Marinette shouted, turning to face him, standing protectively before Adrien, Emilie right beside her.

"Give those back, now!" Gabriel demanded, stepping forward aggressively.

"I don't think I will," Night Shade backed off, his eyes fixed on Gabriel, "You were too weak to use them well, all you cared about was a stupid woman. I have bigger goals than you."

"Givethemback!" Marinette shouted, pouncing at Night Shade. While he was distracted, the former superhero had snuck up on the villain, waiting for her opportunity. She still wasn't fast enough for a miraculous user. Night Shade spun in time to punch her in the gut, sending her flying backward. Before she could recover, he followed up with a shout of, "Terrorize!"

A wave of shadows washed over Marinette, Emilie, and Adrien. The two women immediately screamed, panicked, and began to cower before the villain, while Adrien's face contorted from peaceful bliss to nightmares.

"Enjoy your family, Hawk Moth!" Night Shade shouted as he fled, leaping and smashed the elevator as he rapidly climbed out.

Gabriel immediately ran to Emilie, attempting to put an arm around her and provide comfort, but she recoiled at the touch. Looking up into his face, with those clear green eyes, creases of sheer terror lining her face, she saw her beloved and screamed. For the first time in many a long month, tears began to well up in Gabriel's eyes.

"I'm sorry," he said to Emilie as she ran from him, trying to hide behind the bushes around the capsule, "And to you, Adrien," he added, turning to his son lying his tortured nightmares. "All I ever wanted was for us to be a family again, but I've ruined everything. I've failed you."

Looking upon the scene around him, Gabriel was nearly overwhelmed by despair, but that despair started to burn inside him, turning into anger. He's the one who ruined this! Gabriel told himself, but if I catch him, I can still fix it. I can still have my family back!

"Nooroo!" Gabriel shouted, consumed by hatred, "Dark Wings rise!" Magical energy filled his very being, empowering his anger with renewed strength and vigor. Yes, he was still Hawk Moth, he had not lost this fight yet. With a bound and a leap, he left the basement of despair and exploded into open air, searching for his quarry.

"He can't hide from me," Hawk Moth grinned wickedly, "not so long as he can't control his emotions." Closing his eyes, Hawk Moth focused on this miraculous, sensing strong emotions within the city. There were many feeling strong, unbounded fear, but there were other emotions as well. Anger. Confusion. Bravery. Standing out among all of those, however, was the overwhelming emotions of one person, emanating an overbearing sense of pride.

"Got you," Hawk Moth opened his eyes, leaping across the city.
