Lee then got out the jerky. "Want somethin' to eat?" Lee asked Ben, before holding the jerky in front of him. "If your camp got raided, probably means you haven't eaten in a while."
"I… am really hungry." Ben said while frowning. "Thanks. But, you keep it." He said with an appreciative smile.
Lee then knelt down beside Clementine, noticing her walkie on the wooden board on the floor. "That thing doesn't work anymore, does it?" He asked.
"No… Not since it broke at the drugstore." She answered in a sad tone.
"Just gonna… hold onto it, then?" Asked Lee.
"Yeah. If that's okay. I, um… I need it." She answered her mentor.
"It's ok, hun." He assured her.
"You said they'd find us." She told Lee, talking about her parents.
"I know. I did." Lee responded.
"And, until then…" Said Clem.
"Look, uh… Clementine…"
"I'm not stupid, Lee. I know it's just pretend." She said with a serious expression. "But, it makes me feel better."
"Okay. You take good care of it, then." Said Lee.
Clementine put her hand on the walkie and patted it with care. "I will." She said.
"How're you doin', Clementine? Everything all right?" Lee asked her.
"Yeah. Is that man going to be okay?" Asked Clem, about Parker.
"I think he'll be fine." Lee lied.
"Oh. that's good." Clem nodded her head, then went back to drawing.
Lee then looked at Duck. "How're ya doin', Duck?" He asked the boy.
"I'm okay." He replied happily. "Me and Clementine are colouring."
Clem then showed her drawing to Ben. "Guess what it is." She said happily.
"I don't know… A dog?" Said Ben.
"Nope." Said Clem.
"Oh! I know!" Said Duck. "It's a goat, right?!"
"No!" Said Clem as she shook her head, with a quizzical expression, and slight irritation in her voice.
"You were pretty brave when we brought those people in here." Lee told Duck with a proud smile.
"That's 'cause I know mom can fix 'em." Duck replied casually.
"Catch ya later, Duck."
"Bye, Lee."
Lee then heard Lilly call to him. "How's it going, Lee? From up here, it looks like you're playing favourites." She mocked, referring to Lee giving Kenny a ration.
Lee then walked to the front of the RV, and looked up at Lilly. "We should talk about you and Kenny." Lee suggested.
"What about us?" She asked.
"The arguing. It's gettin' pretty out-of-hand. You know people notice that." Lee clarified.
"Look; I'm working my ass off to make sure we have a good set-up here, and Kenny just doesn't appreciate that. All we need is food." She explained.
"But there IS no food. You know that better than anyone."
"Well… we'll just have to find some." Said Lilly
"Maybe we should think about leavin' the motel." Lee suggested.
"God, not you too." Lilly complained. "I know Kenny wants to leave. I think that's why he's so eager to get the RV working… but this is a good spot. We're protected, we're close to the drugstore, we have a routine now, and it's working."
"... For now." Lee then got the jerky out of his pocket. "Here." Said Lee, holding the jerky up so that Lilly could reach it.
"I don't want anything from you…" Lilly rejected Lee's offer.
Lee took his hand down. "Fine." He said, pocketing the food. So far, Lee had fed Clementine, Duck, and Kenny, whilst Katjaa, Doug, Carley, Ben, and Lilly had refused, much to Lee's surprise. Then, Lee realised that he still hadn't spoken to Larry and Mark, so he walked up to their location, where he found them arguing.
"Will ya hold the damn board steady?" Larry said to Mark.
"I'm trying, I… I didn't realise I was getting this weak, already…" Mark replied weakly.
"What do ya want? A handout? Oh, I got sixty sense in my pocket, you'll shut up and quit bein' such a pansy." Larry mocked.
Lee then went to Larry, who turned and grunted in irritation. "Lilly thinks we should throw these new people out." Lee informed.
"Damn right; there's too many people hangin' around here as it is." Said Larry.
"You've got to talk to Lilly about gettin' along with Kenny." Said Lee.
"Lilly can make her own friends." Larry calmly argued.
"It's not about makin' fiends." Said Lee. "We're all in this together. We gotta start actin' like it
"Uh, STUFF all that." Scoffed Larry. "We'd be fine without YOU." He added coldly, before turning back around. Lee was about to offer Larry the jerky, but that comment just made Lee decide otherwise.
"Keep up on that fence." Said Lee, calmly.
"Don't tell me what to do, Lee." Said Larry.
Mark then noticed Lee behind him, and turned to face his friend. "Hey. You holding up ok, Lee?" He asked. "That was… pretty fucked up back there, havin' to cut that guy's leg off."
"Yeah…" Lee replied. "I just hope Katjaa can save him." Lee added, to which Mark nodded in agreement. "You ever miss the Airforce base?" Asked Lee. "I mean, this wall isn't exactly military standard."
"No WAY I'm goin' back there. You saw what it was like when you guys picked me up. Completely overrun." Answered Mark, without a shred of doubt.
"Lilly's pretty pissed at us." Said Lee.
"Listen; I know her intentions are good, but-"
"BUT nothing!" Larry shouted at the two, cutting Mark off. "She's making the smart choice. Those parasites you guys brought back need to go."
"Well, good luck with that wall." Said Lee.
"We'll get it." Mark assured Lee. Lee then saw Mark still struggling more than Larry, so Lee gave Mark the last ration.
"Need any help with the wall?" Lee offered.
"Nope." Said Larry.
"Actually, we could use your axe." Said Mark. "You mind if we take it?" Mark politely asked Lee, as he turned to face him again.
Larry also turned to Lee. "Yeah; give us that thing for a bit." He said.
As Lee considered who to give the axe to for a few seconds, he eventually gave it to Larry. Larry may be a dick, but he's much stronger than Mark. Plus, Lee still felt kinda bad for not feeding Larry. "Here. This should help." Lee told Larry as he held out his axe. "Try not to make too much noise, though." He added.
"Yeah, yeah, we're not stupid!" Larry snatched the axe off Lee.
Lee then approached the front of the RV and nodded once to Lilly, letting her know that he'd given all four rations away. "Not such an easy job, is it?" Said Lilly. Lee then looked down, then looked to his left towards Carley, who looked back at him.
"It's okay. I know you're still watching out for me." Carley said to Lee with a smile.
Lee then looked back up at Lilly. "I don't envy you." He said. "I don't know how you have the strength to do this every day." He added.
"I don't have a choice." Lilly told Lee.
Kenny then walked up to Lee. "Lee? Hey. Thanks for lookin' out for me an' my family."
"Yeah, of course." Said Lee.
"Still…" Kenny began. "I guess some people aren't gonna be happy with your choices." He pointed out, hinting at Larry, who was approaching Lee from behind.
"You're OUT?" Asked Larry. "What happened to MY food?" Larry asked Lee, as the latter turned around.
"There's none left." Said Lee, with an apologetic expression.
"You keep treatin' people like this, and your days in this groupm are numbered."
"You're one to talk, old man" Threatened Kenny.
"Yeah?! Well, I don't see YOU workin' on that wall!" Larry told Kenny, before walking back to Mark. Lee then turned back to face Kenny, who then just angrily shook his head and walked back to the couch.
Lee then walked up to Doug, who was still working on his bells for the tripwires. "Hey, Doug." Said Lee. Doug got up and nodded to Lee as if to say "Yes?", prompting Lee to speak. "Sorry I ran out before I could give you any food." Lee apologised to Doug.
"That's okay, Lee." Said Doug. "Ya don't need to be saving my life ALL the time." He added, referring to when Lee pulled him away from the window in the drugstore, saving his life.
"Take it easy, Doug."
"You too, Lee."
Lee then headed to Carley. "Sorry I ran out before I could give you any food." Lee apologised to her.
"Hey. Don't feel bad. I'd almost rather starve than eat most of that stuff. Besides; you've done plenty for me already." She told Lee reassuringly.
At this moment, Katjaa was heard. "Ken! Lee! Come here, please!" She called from the pick-up truck, with a now-deceased Parker in the back.
Lee and Kenny went up to her, and saw the sad look in her eyes. "He didn't make it, did he." Kenny assumed.
"He lost too much blood." She explained.
"God dammit." Kenny said angrily, before storming off. "I'm gettin' sick o' this shit." He said to himself as he walked, kicking a discarded can out of the way in the process.
"Ken? Come back, there's nothing…" Katjaa started.
"Let him go, Katjaa." Said Lee.
"But-"
"He just needs time. It's been a rough morning." Lee explained.
"That man you brought; I tried… but he was never going to survive…" She said, sorrow in her voice.
"Well, at least he's not our problem anymore." Said Lee, trying to be optimistic about the terrible situation.
Kat looked over at Ben, who hadn't moved. "What about the other kid?" She asked Lee. After about two seconds, Parker suddenly grabbed Kat around the head from behind, in the back of the truck. However, just managing to avoid getting bitten, Kat's life was saved from the now-zombified teacher, when Lee grabbed Parker and pulled him off her.
Lee put his hand up as he looked in Mark and Larry's direction. "The axe! Hurry!" Lee shouted to them. Parker then grabbed Lee from behind, but Lee grabbed his shoulders and pushed him back as hard as he could, keeping Parker's mouth away from Lee's neck. Lee then swiftly moved his arms to the left, and then to the right, smacking Parker's head on each side of the truck.
At this moment, Larry ran up to the scene, beside Lee. "Get out of the way!" Larry shouted to Lee. Lee then pushed Parker back, smashing the truck's back window with his head. Larry then swung the axe at Parker's head, but he just missed, instead getting the blade of the axe stuck in the truck's metal. "Dammit! I had it!" Larry shouted in frustration.
Lee managed to kick the walker away from him, nut Lee then fell off the back of the truck, landing on his side, before turning onto his back as Parker had crawled off the truck and onto Lee. The only option that Lee had, in the heat of the moment, was to grab the walker's head and dig his thumbs into its eyes.
With Parker's blood now running down Lee's fingers, Larry had managed to pull the axe from the truck, and was standing over the walker that was on Lee. Larry was holding the axe over his head, ready to strike. "God DAMMIT, Lee! Get out of the way!" Larry shouted. Lee managed to push Parker's head up a bit, and Larry struck the back of his head with the axe, finally killing him.
Lee, relieved for it to really be over, pushed Parker off him, where he landed beside him onto his back. Lee sat up and looked at Larry, who looked down at Lee with fury in his eyes. "Why's ya bring him here in the first place, asshole?!" Larry demanded.
Lilly went up to Larry. "Dad! Calm down." She said.
"You're gonna get us ALL killed!" Larry shouted at Lee again, before shoving the axe back to Lee. Everybody in the group, including Ben, walked over to the scene.
Kenny looked at Ben with anger. "Why didn't you tell us he was bitten?!" Kenny demanded.
"What?!" Asked Ben in complete confusion.
"He was bitten, and you didn't say a goddamn WORD!" Kenny shouted.
"But, he wasn't bitten! I swear!" Ben shouted in fear and defence.
"Well, your 'not-bitten' friend here came back to life, and tried to KILL MY WIFE!"
"WHAT?! Wait, you all don't know?" Ben now had everybody's attention. Every adult in the group now stood in front of the truck beside each other, looking at Ben with anticipation. Clem and Duck stood by the RV, watching Ben from behind.
"What the hell are you talkin' about?" Kenny demanded.
"It's not the bite that does it!" Ben explained, shocked that nobody knew this. "You 'come back' no matter how you die. If you don't destroy the brain, that's just what happens... It's gonna happen to all of us."
"We're all infected...?" Lee asked quietly. "Everyone…?"
"I… I guess so… I don't know, I… All I know is that I've seen people turn who I KNOW… were NEVER bitten…" Ben said in a said tone. "When I first saw it happen… we were all hiding out in a gym, and… everybody thought we were finally safe... But, one of the girls? Jenny Pitcher, I think… I guess she couldn't take it… She took some pills… A lot of them… Someone went in the girls' room the next morning, and… God…"
As Ben gave this horrifying explanation, Clem was holding onto Duck's hand for dear life, as were Carley and Doug. Kenny had put his arm around Kat's waist, while she put her hand on his chest. Larry put his hand on Lilly's shoulder in a successful attempt to comfort his daughter after hearing this tragic revelation.
