Another update for everyone who's been kind enough to read so far. Thank you to you all. So as I've said before, I know very little about US Law Enforcement so things may not be procedurally correct buts it's function after all.
Also, I know my updates are a fair bit shorter than other fics but doing it this way means I can update faster (it also looks longer when you're typing it in Notes! Lol) So, enjoy!
It had been 3 days since Kurt had taken Jack out for dinner. They'd both been nervous but had found the other surprisingly easy to talk to. Kurt had tried to avoid any questions about Jack's family or past knowing that they'd be off limits but when they discovered a shared love for musicals it didn't seem important anymore.
Rolling over in his bed, Kurt glanced at his phone. They'd swapped numbers and had been texting regularly since their date. Kurt grabbed his phone and lay back in his bed as he scrolled through their recent messages.

Goodnight Kurt. Sleep well
Tuesday 0632
Good morning Kurt. Hope you slept well.
Kurt had replied to each message with a smile on his face. There was something...satisfying about knowing you were someone's last thought at night and first thought in the morning. Kurt jumped as his phone rang and he paused when he saw the name on the screen.
Jack
"Hey you, how-" Kurt's smiled faded a little when he didn't hear Jack's voice but rather a series of breaths and pants. "Jack? Are you ok?" Kurt sat up in bed wondering if he should call his boss when he heard a sound that settled all of his fears.
"Ohhhhh...Kurt..."
There was no mistaking that sound - or the background noises. Kurt blushed brightly and was about to end the call when something stopped him. Holding his phone in front of him he hit the mute button then lay back down. Holding the phone to his ear Kurt bit his lip as he imagined the dark haired man laying in his bed with his hand gripping his cock. What Kurt imagined to be his thick, hard, dripping cock. The moans coming from the phone left no doubt in Kurt's mind what was going on and although he knew he probably shouldn't be listening, he just couldn't hang up.
His free hand snakes it's way down his body and quickly slid his pajama pants down to free his own hardening cock. Taking himself in hand, Kurt listened intently and tried to match his hand to the sounds on the phone. As Jack's moans quickened Kurt sped his hand up trying to keep quiet. He could tell Jack was close and he wanted to match his release. Kicking the covers away the hit of cool air gave him the extra touch he need and he found himself closing in on his climax.
"C'mon baby..." he whispered into the muted phone.
"Kurt...ohhhhh fuck...mmmm...ohhh!" Jack's release hit him as Kurt followed shortly after. Stroking himself through it Kurt ended the call allowing his hand to roam across his sensitive tip as he caught his breath. Wiping his hand in the now soiled sheets Kurt ran his clean hand across his face and through his hair. What the fuck just happened? A smile grew across Kurt's face as he imagined how it would have been if they'd been together for that moment. The smile didn't last long when his phone rang again.
"H-hello?"
"Kurt, it's me. Ja-Jack."
"Morning Jack. Is everything okay?" Kurt tried to sit up and pretended he'd just woken up.
"Um, my phone says I just spent 9 minutes on a call to you. You didn't, I mean - you didn't answer that did you?" Jack asked, trying not to sound too nervous.
"Oh, uh no sorry - my ringer. It was off and I was sleeping. Maybe it went to voicemail?" Kurt tried to think on his feet inwardly groaning when he mentioned voicemail and heard Jack's sudden intake of breath. "We're you trying to call me?"
"NO! I mean, no. It was probably a buttdial after I texted you good morning. You should just delete it, it won't be important. Probably just sounds. Oh coffee! Coffee sounds. Coffee machine sounds. Yeah, the coffee machine." Jack stammered.
"It's okay, I'll delete it. I never check my voicemail anyway so I guess I'll just have to wait to hear your, your coffee machine sounds in person." Kurt blushed as images of sleepy mornings in bed with Jack entered his head.
"Yeah, it's not even worth listening to. Um, yeah. So, I should get ready for work. Speak to you later?"
"Definitely. Have a good day Jack." Kurt ended the call and giggled as he dropped his face into his hand. Oh my god, did that even just happen!
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
"Excuse me, Belinda, do you have a minute?" Kurt asked as he popped his head into his bosses office when arrived at work that morning. "I've got a few questions about my new role and I was wondering if you could clear some things up for me?"
"Kurt! Good morning! Come on in!" Belinda gestured for him to come in and close the door. Doing so, Kurt then sat in one of the chairs in front of Belinda's desk.
"Ok, so, I know there are rules etc on agents fraternising with victims, suspects and colleagues but I was wondering if there were any that specifically affected our team and the work we do." Kurt asked, trying to be vague but wondering if he'd instantly given the game away.
"Honestly Kurt, there's never really been a need for any. There's obviously the disclosure forms when members of staff begin a relationship with a superior or subordinate and we ask that staff be respectful of the environment during the work day and not discuss ongoing investigations. Is there a specific scenario you have in mind?"
"Well, I mean, the liaison with the Marshalls for example. We know nothing about the people they're protecting so how do we know if we come into contact with any of them? Are we likely to be jeopardising any cases or protection arrangements if we do? Are we risking the witnesses if we meet any of them? Or is there something that prevents us from continuing any association if we discover that they are in fact under the Marshals protection?" Kurt tried to sound calm and professional but wasn't entirely sure he was coming across that way.
Belinda sat back in her chair tenting her fingers in her lap as she studied her employee and considered her answer.
"Let's talk hypotheticals Kurt. As you have no access to any sensitive data held by the Marshals there would be no way for you to discover the identity of anyone referenced on the paperwork we receive. As you know our documents deal with numbers not names so unless you happen to meet someone called 913 at a coffee shop I think you're okay as far as that's concerned. If you think someone you've met might be involved with the Marshals service then you would be expected to use your discretion. You can't ask anyone here or access any systems to confirm any suspicions and if you tried to do so then I'd have to terminate you." Belinda watched as Kurt's eyes widened.
"I would never abuse your trust that way Belinda, I swear!"
"So let's say something happened and you accidentally discovered that someone you know is under the protection of the Marshals..." Belinda smiled kindly as the slight blush in Kurt's face confirmed that the hypothetical was not exactly as hypothetical as thought. "You'd need to declare it to your supervisor, that would be me, and you'd need to hand off the case to one of your team-mates. There's no specific policy about dating anyone like this other than the system issue we've already mentioned. But from an FBI perspective, there could be no contact or links to you and the other person in an official capacity." Belinda studied Kurt's face carefully before leaning forward. "Listen Kurt, I like you. You've been through a lot and you're an amazing worker. If you can promise me that there has been no deliberate infraction on your part then I'm satisfied. As much as I love having you working for me, I'd strongly encourage considering a move to a different department to remove any potential of wrongdoing on your part."
"But I love it here. I love working for you." Kurt protester before falling silent as Belinda held up her hand and lifted a brown envelope from one of her desk drawers.
"I was going to wait until this afternoon to meet with you but since you're here." She slid the envelope across the desk. "As I've told you before, your efforts here have been noticed. There's an opening in the Cyber Crime Division here in Lima. Their Administration Manager has resigned and is leaving next week. Fortunately she's a good friend of mine and when she asked if she could recommend anyone to replace her, well, your name was the only one in my mind. So it appears that all our questions can be answered by asking you one. Kurt, would you accept the post of Administration Manager?"
... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
It was 1558 and Kurt was sitting in the soundproofed room he made his daily calls in. The tick, tick, tick of the wall clock felt slower and louder than ever. Finally it was time.
"Hello?"
"Kermit?"
"Gonzo."
"Hi. How was your day?" Kurt asked, smiling slightly.
"Hey, good! How was yours?"
"Funny you should ask. I, um, I got a promotion today."
"Really? That's amazing! Congratulations!" Jack's grin could be felt through the phone and it warmed Kurt's heart.
"Yeah, so I'm uh, I'm moving to Cyber Crime." Kurt bit his lip as silence invaded their call.
"Oh. So you won't be..."
"No. I won't be your handler. I'm supposed to pass your file over to someone else. I was meant to do it earlier but I wanted to tell you myself." Kurts smiled faded. Even though he and Jack texted regularly, he liked their daily calls.
"Oh, ok. I understand. Well, uh, thanks for everything and good luck with your new job." Jack sniffed. Shit is he crying? Kurt wondered. "I better go, I've got a parent teacher thing soon I've got to get ready for. Thanks again Kurt. I mean it. Thank you. Goodbye Kurt."
Before Kurt could respond Jack had ended the call and Kurt felt awful. He finished completing his call log and went back to his desk where his personal phone was locked in his drawer.
Tuesday 1627
I'm never saying goodbye to you. Meet me at Remy's at 7? Kx
Kurt sent the text and tried to occupy himself while he waited for a response. Was the kiss too much? What if Jack didn't want to see him anymore? What if he'd just messed things up completely? What if-
Tuesday 1631
It's a date. Jx
Kurt's grin remained on his face for the last hour of his workday as he signed the paperwork confirming his promotion and departmental transfer and as he briefed Belinda on his workload.
As he quickly freshened up at home and changed into something less work appropriate Kurt couldn't wipe the grin off his face. His dad and Carole had agreed to keep Stephen overnight and drop him at school the next morning. He had the next day off work before he was due to report to his new supervisor on Thursday morning.
Tonight was all about him and Jack.
Thanks again for reading and don't forget to review and let me know what you think.
