Chapter 17
It was dark at first…until she opened her eyes, her vision was blurry, with the colour of her room mixed, like a spilt water painting. She blinked a few times…to find herself on the floor. But the first thing she felt was the pain in her neck…and her body pretty much cold.
Dendy blinked some more, until she saw herself in a pool of blood…she groaned as she got up. Her body weak…and she remembered being stabbed in the neck. She felt her neck and the bandages did their job, they stopped the flow of blood but it was still warm and soaked. She gasped…coughing up blood…but she was alive. She looked around and the clone was long gone…the clone left her to die…but somehow, Dendy understood why the clone did it…but was afraid what her creation would do. Dendy slid over to the chair that kept her binded…and used it as support. She dragged herself…trying to get to her work top, almost slipping over the blood that came from her.
Dendy huffed and puffed but managed to get to her desk…she pushed away some of her equipment and blueprints, trying to search for a certain devise. After a few long minutes, she found what she was looking for. It was just a piece of rectangular glass, with numbers on it like a calculator, but it glowed green as she activated it.
Dendy started to cry…as she picked something else up, a metal rod and chucked it at the window, smashing it as she grew with frustration and guilt. After having her short burst, she typed in some coordinates.
DENDY: (Feeling groggy) I…I've got to warn…K-KO…
Dendy typed in some numbers and a silver orb surrounding her, pixelated at first but then turned into a smooth metallic looking ball. A white light flashed…and she was gone.
...
Rad and Judy locked up shop. Judy had finished counting the money and Rad was stocking up…even though they would be closed, he liked doing it do he wouldn't have to do it the next time they opened.
JUDY: I hope KO is okay…
RAD: I'm sure the little dude is fine.
JUDY: I dunno. It sounded serious.
RAD: Do you…want to stay at my place and…talk about it.
JUDY: Uh…no…
Just then, a flash and a crash caught the two hero's off guard. An orb had appeared in the shelving unit, smashing everything around it. Rad jumped behind the desk and Judy fell on her backside. The orb opened up…to find an exhausted Dendy in it's odd little door frame.
RAD: D-Dendy…?
DENDY: Oh. (Looks at the damage) Oh, I'm so sorry…
RAD: What the hell, Dendy? You've destroyed almost half the store.
DENDY: I'm sorry, I truly am…b-but I must speak with KO…
JUDY: Uh, he's not here…
DENDY: What?
RAD: Yeah, dude, KO left like twenty minutes ago…
DENDY: Oh God! Where is he?
RAD: I dunno, man, he-
DENDY: WHERE IS HE? IT'S IMPORTANT?
RAD: Whoa, chill, Dendy, calm down…
DENDY: (Panting) I…I can't, I must know where he is?!
JUDY: He went to POINT!
DENDY: P-POINT…?
JUDY: Y-Yeah…something is going on up there!
DENDY: Oh dear…oh God…
JUDY: What's…going on? (Dendy was typing something on her glass pad. Dendy half ignored her) Dendy…?
DENDY: I-I'm sorry, I must go!
And with that, the huge ball in the middle of the store was gone after a white flash…leaving the state of the shop in a small curved ruin. Rad was upset…but Judy seemed worried.
RAD: Aw, man…I just re-stocked the shelves…
JUDY: Rad, something's going. I don't like it!
…
Within seconds…the orb landed somewhere. She remembered where Elodie's office was and the coordinates were easy. Her silver surrounds disappeared…and she slumped to the floor. She saw that Elodie and Enid were hurt…and the rest just looked at her in shock.
CUT TO:
FINK: (To Dendy) I'll never forgive you for this…you're lucky I don't slit your throat.
DENDY: (Nods) I…I know…
KO kisses Fink to get her mind off things, even if it were just for a few seconds. Dendy, hushes the now panicking clone…as they stare into each other's eyes. Death coming to take her away.
DENDY: (To the clone) I…I didn't want this. I…I just wanted what KO had. You…y-you were a mistake.
The clone then stopped shaking.
FinK: (Gurgles) a…mis-mi-mistake…?
DENDY: You was meant to be mine…
FinK: (Chuckles) I…(Swallows more blood and coughs)…I…ha-haaave…o-ooone…(Coughs)…b—bu-bullet left…
DENDY: W-What…?
The clone then pulled out the gun…and pulled the trigger…
BANG.
Everything seemed to happen in slow motion.
Her creation dying in her arms…
The sight of KO being shot…
The sight of Fink being pulled by his weight…
The screams of KO and Fink's son, Tyi…guessing that the poor child had watched his parents perish…
The memory fades…
It had been a few hours now, maybe even longer than that…time was lost at this point.
Dendy couldn't help but recall that moment. The kappa was at the hospital and had a clean, white bandage around her…she was sitting in the waiting room, away from the others. Dendy had used her teleporter to get the injured to hospital. The travel made her weak and nauseous…and aside from the surviving hero's…she managed to get Fink and KO…but it was…it was…
Dendy had no one to talk to…nor did they want to talk to her.
A few feet down, the rest of the gang were outside someone's patient's bedroom. Enid was in wheelchair…her legs plastered, but it didn't stop her from moving about…she was rather slick at using it. Jess and Trace were sitting on the chairs, outside Fink's room…Jess had her head against her mother…tears down her face, as well at Trace's. Rad was leaning against the wall…his arms folded.
By this point, the hospital were informed that an imposter had killed people and not the real Fink…so not to be confused with the situation.
It was silent…with only the hospital phones going off and a few doctors walking past. No one knew what to say. There was nothing to say. Rad looked at Dendy with a raging stare…and even though Dendy didn't look up, she knew she had eyes on her.
The silence was startled by some small commotion.
FEMALE: LET ME THROUGH!
It was Elodie, as some nurses were holding her back. Elodie had both her hands bandaged thickly. Aside from that, and a few plasters across her face…she seemed fine. The nurses were still trying to hold her back.
ELODIE: WILL YOU LET GO OF ME!
The nurses gave up and let Elodie through. She sighed and acknowledged the others, before going to Enid.
ELODIE: How…how is she…?
ENID: (Sighs sadly) Not good…
Enid nodded to the window, indicating Elodie to look through it. She did, as she took a step forward to look through the window. Her heart sank as she saw Fink was in a right mess. Half her face was covered with blooded bandages…her whole body damaged and was hooked up to every machine possible. A heart monitor, a breathing apparatus, a nutrient IV drip…the works. The heart rate monitor was beeping steadily…for Fink to survive this long, is a miracle in itself…but what broke Elodie's heart even more, was seeing Tyi, lying next to his mother, sobbing, with his arms wrapped around her…and was careful not to tangle in the millions of wires hooked into Fink.
ELODIE: (Forming tears) Oh…oh that poor boy…(Enid nodded, trying to hold back her tears). Does…does he know about…KO…?
Enid looked up at Elodie…their eyes locked and Elodie could see Enid's eyes glisten, as her eyes started to flood with tears…her lip quivered and she closed her eyes, pushing the overflowing tears that rolled down her cheek, as Enid couldn't hold it any longer. Elodie kneeled down…she couldn't hug her love as her hands still hurt…Enid whimpered and this seemed to set off the other hero's around her. Rad couldn't take it…his eyes started to water too.
RAD: It's not FAIR!
Rad wanted to punch something…but knew he couldn't this in a hospital and just stormed off, to let out some of his steam and sadness.
ENID: (To Elodie) I…I couldn't tell him. (Crying gasps) I…just…I just…couldn't…
Elodie didn't care about her pain, she gently touched Enid's face. They hugged, as Enid let out a cry. Jess watched and couldn't help but be helpless…she wanted to be in there with Tyi, to comfort him…but maybe that wouldn't be enough. Elodie embraced Enid…her hands stung but she really didn't care. Her tears slowly appeared…as her eyes were closed, having a cry with Enid…
…then her eyes shot open at Dendy and the rage was building inside her. Elodie gently pushed Enid to the side, which was much easier when she was in a wheelchair and stomped towards Dendy. Enid tried to catch up.
ELODIE: You! (Dendy looks up) This is ALL YOUR FAULT!
Elodie was coming at such speed that it made Dendy get up quickly and back away, before Enid wheeled between them.
ENID: Stop it, Elodie!
ELODIE: What? How can you let this bitch still be here? THIS IS COMPLETEY HER FAULT!
ENID: Just calm down…
ELODIE: BECAUSE OF HER, ENID, BECAUSE OF HER SELFISH NEEDS, KO IS DEAD!
ENID: Elodie, shut up! Keep it down!
ELODIE: (To Dendy) YOU BROKE US, DENDY! YOU'VE TRULY BROKEN US! TYI NO LONGER HAS FATHER AND BY THE LOOK OF THINGS, HE'D BE LUCKY TO HAVE A MOTHER!
ENID: ELODIE! (Elodie looks at Enid) Keep it down for God's sake! Tyi could probably hear you!
Elodie shakes her head and scoffs…but not before having a dig at Dendy.
ELODIE: You were supposed to be the brains of the unit, Dendy! What were you thinking…? You…bloody brainless idiot…
DENDY: I…(Shakes her head and buried in her hands)…
ELODIE: I don't know how POINT will ever forgive you for this. I know I won't. There's no reason for you to be here. So, go away!
Dendy nods, she had nothing else to say and sorry wasn't enough. Dendy just turned around and left, sobbing to herself. Elodie was still angry…her temper getting the best of her. She paced up and down.
ENID: Dendy…did help us get to the hospital, Elodie…and she explained why she made the fake-
ELODIE: Oh, right and that makes everything fucking better does it? DOES IT?! (Enid spouts) KO IS DEAD, ENID, DEAD! DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THE MAGNITUDE OF THE SITUTATION?
ENID: Of course, I do…you know I do…
ELODIE: (Almost hyperventilating) The problem with you, Enid…is you're way to forgiving. (Spouts) Now…now I've got to go back to POINT.
ENID: You can't…you're hurt! You need to heal-
ELODIE: Don't tell me, what I can and can't do! Don't!
ENID: Elodie…
ELODIE: Please don't…p-please don't make me hate you…
Enid wanted to say something but Elodie turned around and left the group, disappearing into the crowd of doctors and patients.
ENID: (Towards Elodie) HE WAS MY FRIEND AS WELL, YOU KNOW!
This scared Jess a little…she'd never seen Enid so angry before but the little girl mouse understood that sadness and tensions were high. Trace tried to comfort her…but knowing her friend could die was just stuck on her mind.
JESS: Is Ms Fink going to be alright…?
TRACE: I…I don't know, sweetie…
JESS: I heard Ms Fink has survived worse than this…(Slight smile) So, she's gonna be fine, right…?
Enid looks through the door window and just see's Tyi lying there, next to his mother…from what she could tell, his eyes were sore from the crying. Enid turned back to Jess…with a weak smile.
ENID: You're right, Jess. Fink has come through a lot worse than this. She's a fighter…and the state she's in right now, well…she'll win.
This cheered Jess up a little bit, even if there was a subtle hint of lying in her speech…it was probably what they wanted to hear right now…considering one of their famous hero had perished.
TRACE: I think we should leave Tyi alone for a little while, don't you think, sweetie…?
JESS: No! I want to stay here!
TRACE: Jess, he-
JESS: No, please…I don't want to leave him on his own!
ENID: He's not on his own, is he? (Smiles) He has Fink. And besides, I think we should leave them alone for a little while.
JESS: I…I guess…
ENID: There's a café down the corridor I noticed earlier, why don't we get a bite to eat and drink?
JESS: Okay.
ENID: All on me. I'll pay for it.
TRACE: Oh, I can't have you paying for it all…
ENID: Nonsense. It'd be my pleasure. Besides, I wanna see if I get a disability allowance.
This does make them chuckle. Trace and Jess lead the way, while Enid followed behind.
…
Time meant nothing to Tyi…he wasn't saw how long he stayed with his mother, he wasn't saw how long he cried…but his eyes were getting sore. The machines beeped at a steady rate and Fink's breathing was a little slow…but the machines were doing there bit to keep her alive. Tyi started to shiver…he wanted to see his dad but it just wasn't possible at the moment and he wasn't sure why…considering he's allowed to stay with his mother. He lied there, just hoping she'd wake up…she really looked like she was asleep. Fink was in a critical condition. Though Tyi's eyes were sore, he could still pour out some tears…
TYI: (Quivering) Mommy…? Please wake up…(He rub his eyes) Please…(Fink didn't respond) Mommy…if you can hear me…(Sobs)…I'm sorry for the times I was naughty. I'm…I'm sorry for all the times I was bad. (Sobs) I'm sorry if I ever shouted at you…(Sobs) I promise I'll…I'll never be bad, I promise I'll never be naughty again…just…please wake up. (Cries uncontrollably) I need you…(Not noticing the breathing apparatus slowing down) I love you, mommy…
Oh, sweetheart…I love you too.
Just then, the oxygen machine stopped pumping and the heart monitor started to alarm, as Fink was going into to cardio, a horrible long sounding beep seemed to replace the noise.
TYI: Huh..?
Just then doctors and nurses rushed into the room. One of the nurses grabbed Tyi gently.
TYI: No…! What's going on?
NURSE: I'm sorry, young man, we need the room.
TYI: Mommy? MOMMY?
NURSE: Listen, honey, we are helping your mom, okay? The doctors are helping her.
The nurse puts Tyi outside the room and closes the door. On cue the others turn up from the café, all with drinks.
ENID: Wha…what's going on?
TYI: MOMMY! (Banging on the door)
Trace had a better view from the window, she looked through and gasped. Doctors and nurses surrounded Fink, swapping wires, pressing buttons, recording the readings, getting the defibrillator out…there was too much going on. Trace could see that Fink's heart rate was 0.0 with only a turquoise line on the monitor. The head doctor starting to do CPR on Fink…pushing down at her chest, which looked violent but essential to get the heart going again…
…It didn't seem to be working and then used the defibrillator, shocking the pads up to a certain voltage and giving Fink a shock…the monitor showed nothing. The doctors and nurses repeated the procedure…but…nothing seemed to improve…
The monitor had the same line on the screen…the one tone long beep confirming…that Fink had passed away. Trace gasped, her hands over mouth as she watched the doctors shake their heads, some even started crying.
TRACE: Oh no…no…
The doctor looked at his watch, to confirm the time of death. Enid looked at Trace, the mouse's eyes flooded straight away…and turned to look at Enid, her face gave away the fact, that Fink was dead…
Tyi just stared at the adults next to him…he could feel that his mother had gone, but he couldn't cry anymore, his eyes started going red and he just looked at the floor…in silence. Jess comforted him…she didn't know what to say. There was nothing she could say. Nothing.
The doctors came out of the room, all looking sad and defeated. The main doctor then kneeled down to Tyi…he had a remorseful, kind face on him.
DOCTOR: Your mother was a…wonderful person, kid. What she did for us…will never be forgotten…
Tyi still couldn't say anything. The doctor spoke to Enid and Trace, since they were the adults in the group. So much had to be done now…and there was no way, Tyi, a child, could handle it. The adults speaking seemed muffled, as Tyi wasn't listen…she just simply pushed the door open, wanting to see his mother for the last time. Jess went in with him.
He climbed on a chair, as did Jess…and they just stared at Fink's lifeless body. The emotions confused the kids whether this should be frightening or not. Since dead bodies were supposed to be scary…though, this one wasn't…
JESS: She…s-she looks like she's…asleep.
Tyi closed his eyes and gritted his teeth, letting out another scream before crying as he dived his face into Fink's chest. Jess just felt helpless. Trace and Enid entered the room as they heard Tyi cry. His tears soaking into the bandages. It was a sorry site. His cries whaled the room.
TRACE: Jess, maybe leave Tyi alone for a while.
JESS: But…
ENID: Trace, it's okay. I think it's important that Jess stays with Tyi. We, uh…(Wipes some tears)…we've got some things to sort out. (To Jess) Will you look after him?
JESS: Yes…
ENID: Good.
TRACE: Call me, if you need me, Jess, okay…
JESS: I will.
Enid wheels herself out and Trace follows. News was starting to spread throughout the hospital. Tyi pushed himself up…to see his mother just…sleeping. Her lifeless movements just seemed unnatural. Most of the hospital machines she was unattached too. Her silk fur slowly turning lighter.
JESS: Tyi…I'm sorry…
TYI: (Sniff) It's…it's not your fault. (Wipes his tears) It's mine…
JESS: What…? Why?
TYI: I…I should've helped her quicker…but…(Looks at his hand)…my arm wasn't long enough…
JESS: Tyi…she…she probably would've pulled you down. I…I know you're strong but…in this case, it would've been pointless. You'd have died too…and I know Ms Fink wouldn't have wanted that…
TYI: (Looks at Tyi) Well, I did it…I did nothing…
JESS: But there wasn't nothing you could've done…
TYI: I could've tried more…
JESS: Oh, Tyi…
Jess gentle grabbed his hand and squeezed it. She smiled weakly at him…and even though he loved her smile, nothing could make smile at this point.
TYI: My…dad is dead as well, isn't he? (Looks at her)…those doctors that came earlier, talking to you lot when I was lying next to mommy…that was…that was the news, wasn't it?
JESS: (Looks down) Y-Yes…
TYI: I knew it was. I watched you all cry.
JESS: Ms Enid…didn't have the heart to tell you…
TYI: (Nods and sniffs) I understand. I…I knew he would be, even if I didn't want to believe it. At least…a-at least mommy and daddy are together now. (Starts to cry again. Jess hugs him) I should be happy…that they are at peace. (Now cries into her shoulders) But I'm not! I miss them already. I…I miss them…
Jess didn't say anything but cried herself, influenced by Tyi's disappear and sadness.
The next coming weeks…was his ultimate test. The goodbyes…
…
End of Chapter.
NOTES: There will be one more chapter. I couldn't bring myself together to write anymore and I feel this chapter ended perfectly, all considering. It'll be up next weekend.
