Naruto Of The Uchiha

This Is Why

Sasuki looked around. It looked like Naruto's room, however she was much significantly smaller and the room wasn't the same. She stood confused.

"Naruto! You almost ready? You're going to be late to your own birthday!" Sasuki recognized that voice and heard the laughter...it was Shisui.

How was Shisui here? Wait...did he just call her Naruto? She walked to the mirror and sure enough, she was a shorter Naruto. Still the black and red hair, the whisker marks, however hebwas wearing what he'd met her in, the sleeveless black hoodie and orange shirt, with black shorts and black sandals. He even had on those wristbands.

This was Naruto on his birthday? He didn't look like this when she met him. He was taller and looked a bit older than this...What was going on? Why was she Naruto?

She tried talking but nothing would come out. She heard and felt Naruto taking a deep breath before walking out of his room. She went to the living room and sure enough, there was Shisui sitting on the couch.

"You look good, Naruto." Shisui was smiling and looked excited. She could feel exactly what Naruto was feeling. The nervousness, excitement...love.

"Thanks Nii-san!" Shisui again smiled but it was wider than before.

"So, this must have been one of the first times Naruto called him that. Wait, why would I be seeing this?"

"Oh crap! I have to go do something real quick! I'll he back really fast, I promise!" Naruto gave a nod and Shisui disappeared. She had sat down and was waiting.

After a little bit, the lock to the door was jingling. However she thought it didn't sound right. Ofcourse this wasn't her so she couldn't do anything. She could only see through his eyes as he jumped up.

"Nii-san! Wait, who are you two?"

She saw as masked individuals like the ANBU stood there. The black cloaks, blank animal masks devoid of individuality and color. This wasn't going to be good. Everything was telling her to run but she couldn't. She could only watch. Why wasn't Naruto running?

One of them took out a sword, she noticed Naruto's gaze at the blade. Knowing Naruto's love for the blade and the beauty that he's described in blades, she knew Naruto must have liked the blade. She felt his emotions.

It was true, the blade was beautiful, however even Naruto knew this was a bad sign. Was this to be the blade that caused his death? His heart began to race and his breath became shaky. She herself became scared.

The blade began to come down, it was so fast, but once it was 8 inches away from beheading him, it all became slow motion. Was she to watch death in slow motion? She felt a burning in the eyes and immediately realised what it was, having been through it...under different circumstances.

This was when Naruto awakened his Sharingan! The blade was still coming and Naruto was staring at it, obviously confused at why it was so slow. This was what Naruto meant, when the eyes let you see in "slow motion" but you aren't fast enough to do anything about it...you just get to watch your death happen so much slower...

Suddenly, just before the blade could hit, there was a blur. She heard the sound of a clang which meant the sword was blocked and then two thumps were heard. Naruto looked up to see Shisui, and his vision blurred. As he passed out Shisui caught him.

"Naruto! I'm sorry!" Was the last thing heard before Naruto completely passed out.

He never told her what made his Sharingan awaken...just that it did when he was 4. He was nearly killed! Had Shisui not been there just in time, she'd never have met Naruto. No wonder he never liked talking about it, it was the first time he ever thought he'd die, the fear she felt from him was overwhelming and deeper than she ever thought. He always seemed so fearless. Guess that wasn't the truth.

When she opened her eyes again, she noticed the area was different. It was the outdoor training ground in their back yard. She didn't know how much time passed but Naruto was hunched over panting. He looked up at Shisui and chuckled slightly.

"You're getting really good Naruto. There's always more you can work on, but this is great."

"Hey, Nii-san?"

"Yes Naruto?"

"I like to train, don't get me wrong...but why do we do it so much? For as long as I can remember, we've always been training or learning something."

Shisui sighed. "Well Naruto, part of it is about what happened a few months ago. I should have given you better training but thats not the point. I want to make sure nothing like that ever happens again. On top of that, it's for when you find your reason to fight."

"My reason to fight? Is it not for the village?"

"It is. But it's deeper than that, Naruto. Do you know what makes someone strong?"

"Mmm, the techniques they know and their mastery of said techniques?"

"Partly. The true strength of a shinobi comes out when they are fighting for something...someone."

"Fight for someone else?"

"Yes. Like I fight for the village, that's true. But really, where I draw my strength from, is that I fight for you, Naruto. To protect you. When you fight for someone you love, it gives you the strength to always come out on top...so you can see them again."

"I see. So fighting for someone I love, leads to strength?"

"In a sense. Don't think too much on it right now, you're only 4. But we'll talk more about this later on when you'll understand better." Shisui smiled and ruffled Naruto's hair.

"Is that the true secret to strength? Love."Looking around, the area changed again.

Naruto was in the backyard again and was watching Shisui perform several Shunshins in a row. "Wow Nii-san! I'll be able to do that?"

"Yes, among other things. I'll show you the next version later. For now I want you to try."

With a nod Naruto stood up and made a successful jump, trying a second one resulted in total failure. He lost control and crashed into a tree knocking him out.

"Haha I guess even this technique made him crash all the time."

"Naruto, I'm going to show you a Genjutsu. If you can master it in 6 days, we'll go to Ichiraku's for your birthday."

"YOU BET! I'M GOING MASTER IT, JUST YOU WAIT!"

Sasuki smiled as she watched Naruto training nonstop to master the Genjutsu and reach the goal. Then another thought came to mind, "Will this be when I met him?"

She watched as he had mastered it and smiled seeing him boast to Shisui. Through these memories, she got to see Naruto be truly happy. Where had this happiness gone? Would it ever return?

"Listen Naruto...I have to go to a mission, I should be back by 9, we are still on for tomorrow."

Naruto gave Shisui a hug. "Ok, be safe Nii-san!"

"I'll see you later...try to get some sleep, ok?"

"Sure. Food will be ready for when you return!"

Naruto hugged Shisui...for the last time...though that still hadn't been known. She watched as Shisui walked out of the house and could feel that Naruto was feeling something bad would happen. It got her worried but the memory shifted again.

It was still the same day it seemed, but it was later. She was feeling the uneasiness coming from Naruto as he paced the house. It was already almost 11 and Shisui hadn't returned.

Ding Dong

The doorbell rang through the house. Naruto snapped up to the door and looked nervously. Something wasn't right. Walking to the door Sasuki got scared, what was waiting on the otherside...

"Itachi Nii-san, Uncle Kakashi, Jiji? What are you doing here?" Naruto looked at them all. Sasuki could see their faces, something bad had happened. "Guys what's wrong? Nii-san said he'd be back two hours ago at the latest, he's still not back."

Sasuki could feel Naruto's heart sink, it was pounding and his breathing was shaking. This was the second most emotion she's felt him have, themost had been when he awoke from surgery. Again...it sadly wasn't a good emotion. Just sadness, and emptiness.

"Naruto-kun...Shisui...is dead." Itachi said sadly and with regret in his voice. She herself began to cry, Naruto lost Shisui the night before his birthday...the night before meeting her...How did he manage to get through that day?

She felt Naruto's eyes burn and noticed his eyes morphed to the Mangekyo. This was how he awakened them...the night he'd lost his happiness...

The memory continued through her meeting of him and now she felt so guilty for how she had talked of Shisui. Now she knew she'd been right that he'd been hiding something. Still, he had acted cheerful about his birthday, something only Itachi saw through.

"How could I be so stupid! He was hurting!"

"Don't blame yourself, Sasuki-chan. You couldn't have known..."

"I should have known you'd be hurt from finding out about his suicide...it was neglectful to not realise that and come see you sooner." The younger Sasuki said.

"Its alright...just let me be alone right now, ok?"

"No! Stay! Don't leave him!" She watched as her younger self turned away and left Naruto alone. She felt so stupid.

She was crying more and more as memory after memory played, over time it became clear that Naruto was faking his emotions almost all the time. She could feel him being swallowed in sadness. The emptiness he could never fill. One last memory came into view.

Naruto was walking home when she saw herself from 4 years ago crying on his porch...Immediately Naruto ran to her. This was the night she learned of the massacre...when they began to live together.

She saw as Naruto tried desperately to comfort her. Something she never did for him...always turning away and never trying. He always wanted to be alone but she could have tried harder. Like how Naruto never gave up on being at her side no matter what she went through.

"Naru...the-they're s-saying that It-Itachi may have k-killed Shisui fo-for power..." From her perspective now, she could feel Naruto's sadness and emptiness both get deeper and sink further. It felt like a void of never ending suffering, the helplessness was overwhelming.

"Kill...Get revenge! I'll get revenge! She's his sister...kill...take from him, what he took from you! I will take from him, what he took from us!"

She heard his thoughts and froze...he hated her and Itachi...he wants to kill her.

"Naru...D-do you h-hate me?"

Just as those thoughts she heard came, they left. That void was lessening and the emptiness slightly filled. She watched him hug her tightly.

"Never...I would never hate you Sasuki-chan."

Sasuki cried even more...both in the memory and herself as she watched. Naruto had a darkness that was consuming every bit of him, yet somehow part of him remained. She seemed to keep him from turning completely over.

Naruto had carried her to the guest room and she saw as he stayed at her side until she fell asleep holding his hand...then the memory continued.

He cried, finally after all that, he hadn't cried once, but he let it out now that she was asleep. He promised to never cry in her presence and always remain strong. He turned to the mirror, the Mangekyo was activated.

"With these eyes...I'll protect you. No one will ever hurt you, I promise." He looked at her and pushed her hair out her face and smiled.

She cried as she heard the promise he made to her that night while she slept. Was this why he made sure she was always happy and ok? It seemed that he was practically ready to lose his mind and go on a rampage, yet somehow she unknowingly was his salvation...

The memory faded away, she was in darkness. It was his heart...she looked around and saw a small light, as she walked closer and looked into it, it was her. She could see different images playing, her laughing or smiling, them training...everything. She was the small light in his void.

Finally everything faded away, she opened her eyes to be in bed and him sitting next to her. He was holding her hand and was looking down at the floor. A few tears came from her eyes and she grabbed his hand tighter.

"This is why...I can't lose you, Sasuki-chan."

"Naru...I...I am so sorry."

"Don't...you know none of its your fault. You're all I have. I will not lose you too."

"Fine..." she began to cry and sat up to hug him. "...I won't try to force you to get me into ANBU with you. I will remain in the normal ranks. Just let me help you for once."

"Sas-"

"No exceptions." Naruto couldn't say anything. He just hugged her.

She learned today that she was his reason for fighting. As Shisui had told him when he was younger, that if you had someone you loved, you could always find a way to come out on top. That was how he beat the Iwa shinobi, escaped the Mizukage...every challenge he overcame was for her. To see her again.

He didn't say it, but she knew now he loved her deeply, far more than she ever thought. They loved eachother but now she understood how much he loved her. In a heart so dark and empty, she was all that was within it and even so, it was far more than she ever realised possible.

"I will find a way to rid the darkness in your heart one day. I promise you...my love." Sasuki kissed him.

So thanks for clarifying that thing about the tag lol...I changed it, hopefully it's there now.

Now Sasuki knows of Naruto's emptiness. It was always something she suspected but now its confirmed to her. Danzo has been suspected but there is no true evidence they can use against him. With the war coming, I won't be doing the Chunin exams...stuff will start progressing to that now and as I've said before, deaths will be coming. That is war and there is always loss. There will be one last thing I do before the war kicks off and it is probably the last Canon thing I do for a while. That being Land of Waves...will be different though. It will consist of both Naruto and Sasuki's perspective as it will shift, not constantly but it will. I was honestly thinking of doing the Chunin exams to kick off the war, but I think that if you're expecting war at some point, it is illogical to host an event where other villages come to yours...

Next chapter will be a longer one. I was going to combine this and the last one but decided to make it separate. But yeah, hope you guys are enjoying, if you feel I could improve in any way, please let me know. As I've said before, I'm really new to this and I enjoy writing, I'd like to get better.
