It was Nightfall and Alan was prepared to fight any more Taken that could spring out in the night since the moon has little to no effect on the monstrosities that the wicked dark presence creates like ocean waves. These monsters were very unpredictable, and the champion of light himself knew that all too well. His time in the Dark Place has taught him discipline and craft against his own enemies that Thomas Zane accidentally released into the world a long time ago. He had his gun ready and his flashlight. He needed to find more pages to look for the solution against the Dark Presence. These pages were highly important and every page of his manuscript has to count, especially since it predicted Lincoln and his sisters helping him out against his most hated adversary.
At last, they all made it to Shelby National Park. Nothing bu the full moon to light the whole area, besides the lanterns hooked on the trees to a path, and everyone's flashlights with them all.
In Shelby National Park, it was quiet in the place. Perhaps... too quiet. Something was very wrong, and Alan knew that the Darkness was probably waiting for him and the kids to strike like a cobra trying to catch a large rat in the grass. He did not like it one little bit. No, it was scary out here, but there was no time to be scared. There was a world that he needed to save, and a wife that he needs to reunite with after all this time. "I don't see anything Alan." said Luna. "Nothin' but black."
"Shh, quiet." Alan whispered gently. "I feel like we're not alone. Come on." the kids all followed Alan and looked around for anything useful. After few miles east, they all found a manuscript page stuck on a tree bark. "I think I found another page." said Alan. The writer removed it from the tree and he read out:
We ran as fast as we could, and we used up almost all our strength to get away from the Berserker Bears. They were not ordinary taken, but gigantic beasts that had enhances strengh to claw through solid concrete with enough force from their big, meaty claws. It pained me to see an animal getting turned into a mindless monster turning against me and trying to stop me from pushing forward. They were far more faster than the average Taken with enhanced speed and durability. I wondered to myself: "What's next?" a moose possessed by the dark presence? Or a bison? And there aren't any even bison in michigan anymore.
"Animals can be possessed by the Dark presence?" Lola asked
"Yes. As I told you, animals, people, and objects and machines."
Suddenly, there was the sound of ravens or crows cawing from the sky, and there was about fifteen of them, all black in the night and glowing red eyes with shadowy aura covering them like shields. "Are they bad birds?" said Lana
"I think they are, Lana." Alan narrowed his eyes. He noticed the possessed avians swarming down like living harbingers of doom, and he shouted: "EVERYONE OUT OF THE WAY!"
the kids yelped and they leaped out of harm's way from the possessed birds. The flock suddenly turned from a group of birds into a freakish bird man. He looked almost naked but with his pants still on and torn up as if he was being mauled by wolves. He had sharp fangs from his mouth and he had abnormally long fingers with claws at the end of them, and some feathers on his back. Not only that, but there were bird-like feet below his legs. He bellowed that sounded like a demonic wail from the pits of hell.
"What the heck is that?!" said Lynn
"That is just messed up, brah." Luna added.
"That be freaky!" Lana added
"Don't let your guard down, guys!" the writer reminded, "Shoot it!" He and the kids immediately began shining the light at the bird man and shot as many bullets as it needed to go down and die. Suddenly, the thing turned into birds again, and began attacking Lori and Leni with their beaks, but Alan managed to use a flash bang on the possessed avians to scare them off.
The crows turned into the Birman again, and it began running and charging in a primal way and panting like a wild animal, hitting Lola and Lana in the process, knocking them into a tree. "Gah! my head." Lola said.
"You jerk!" said Leni towards the freakish Taken.
Lincoln began firing more bullets as it was no longer protected by the darkness, until it turned into light and disappeared into thin air. The twins were a little shaken by this, but not that hurt. Luna then helped Lana and Lori helped Lola. "You guys okay?" Lincoln asked.
"We're fine." Lana said. "Felt like a car hit us."
"Or a horse trying to run us over." Lola added. "But we're okay, nothing too bad."
"Good. There could be more of the Taken out there." Alan said. "we just need to find more pages and we can get out of here" Everyone stayed on track, and looked at the path. "Stay on the trail where the lanterns are leading us. That could give us some protection against the Taken."
"Got it." said the kids.
Walking for a few more miles, the trail and lanterns ended, then Alan saw a lone light post glowing a beautiful yellow color, indicating that it was a little spot to catch everyone's breath. This light felt rather soothing like walking into a steam room within a sauna. After a few seconds the light burnt out and it no longer worked. From a distance, Lincoln looked in one direction and noticed an old, rusty building the size of a casita, and a large power generator close to it. "Hey, look over there." he said
Everyone did just that and noticed the generator and shack. "good find, Lincoln." said Alan. "This could be another safehaven in case the Dark Presence is all over us. Do you know how to turn on the generator?"
"Pull it to make it powered up?"
"Right."
Lincoln put his gun and flashlight down and and got them both on the pull-string connected to the generator. He pulled it the first time, but nothing happened.
"Keep going, bro. Sometimes you have to do it a few more times." Luna encouraged him.
The boy gave his hardest, strongest pull, making him fall on his butt, backwards from the impact. At last the machine was working and there was light in the shed, providing everyone safety,
