Yu-Gi-Oh ! GX : Destiny's Dawn
CHAPTER 10
Today was the decisive day. The interscholastic tournament- pitting aspiring duelists from the four corners of the world- against each other to decide the superior branch of duel academy. With a fitting place as any, the central academy, known far and wide as Duel Academy. The last obstacle in the Princeton Group's path of conquering the Dueling World.
Inside the Obelisk Blue Girls Dorm, staring out the window of her room, Alexis was absorbed in her thoughts for those last days had been hectic.
"Atticus..." She muttered with a melancholic, yet determined tone. "I swear I will find you, wherever you are, and I will save you. But right now, I have to save something else dear to me. Sorry, big brother, but it's all for your good." Alexis said as she glanced at her desk, on top of which were her deck, and duel disk. She took a nice, deep breath before heading over to equip her disk and inserted the deck into it.
The moment of quietude was soon to be interrupted as two girls barged into the room, girls that Alexis knew well. One red hair who goes by the name of Jasmine, and the other a brunette known as Mindy. "Aleeeeexisssss!" They both scuttled to her, as if they had seen their savior.
"Oh hey, it's you two." Alexis went with a bland tone. She could tell that the duo hurried to get to her and both looked up at Alexis with lost puppy eyes. Something had evidently happened to these two.
"Alexis, you gotta avenge us!" Jasmine said, Mindy nodding profusely in agreement. Alexis sighed, she was used to those two's shenanigans, but despite that they were still her friends- Even if the three looked like a mafia boss leading their lackeys.
Deciding to hear them out, Alexis replied. "Alright, I'll bite. What happened to you two, and how do I right the wrong?" She asked, crossing her arms. Jasmine and Mindy were quite happy to hear that as they stopped sobbing.
"We-urm," Mindy stuttered, trying to get the words out of her system. "I hope you don't hate us for this, Alexis, but we loooooost!" She cried out. Alexis was quite baffled to hear that.
"This early?" Alexis said, "But the day had just started. I thought you two were better than that," She stated, those words plunged deep into the duo; like a dagger stabbing them. "Ack-Well," Jasmine stammered, "We've had a few duels, alright?! We've won, it's not like our first and only duel was us losing!"
"Mind elaborating on that more, maybe?" Alexis raised an eyebrow. "Jasmine's right, Alexis! We did win! Although…Just against some Slifer Red losers." Mindy meekly said, as if that wasn't such a great achievement. Alexis sighed, all they actually did was hamper the chances of Duel Academy winning, but she couldn't blame them as they didn't know the full story. In fact, only a few knew as she and Zane spilled the beans to the rest of the group.
"Okay, okay, you two fought admirably. Now that you've lost, you're out of the tournament." Alexis said. She then took on a fierce expression, "I'll avenge you. No one messes with my friends and gets away with it. Just lead me to who did it to you."
Jasmine and Mindy couldn't help but tear a few more tears. "Uwaaaah! You're just too good for us, Alexis! You're our big sis! Our Idol! Our queen!" They both said, annoying Alexis. "Just lead me to the guy, okay?!" She snapped at them.
"R-RIGHT THIS WAY!" And like good little pups, they would lead Alexis to the responsible party. "T-There," Jasmine said as they reached the path leading to the academy's entrance. "That's where we lost." Mindy added.
"Okay? And do you suppose that the person is still here?" Alexis asked, unsure. "Yes…They are." The duo pointed forwards. Alexis looked in the direction and saw a black-haired girl sitting on one of the stone slabs, looking away dramatically with her forearm glued on her forehead. Kneeling in front of her, was a brown-haired boy of the same age, bowing down to her and holding a rose in his hand, gesturing at the girl to talk to him. The sight was like a renaissance art.
Interestingly, both wore the same outfit, or at least the girl had a slight variant of the boy's. These two had to be from the same branch of the academy.
"Ooh, Juliet! Your beauty is without compare in this world!" The boy exclaimed. "You are the shining light in my darkness! Without you, I simply cannot be."
The girl, Juliet, was flattered by this. "Romeo, you are simply too good for me! But how can I live up to you? Oh, my sweet Romeo!" She exclaimed.
"Jasmine…Mindy…you lost to those two clowns?" Alexis calmly asked. Jasmine and Mindy were embarrassed but nodded. "Oh, what's this?" Juliet noticed the trio and turned to them. "It appears we have guests, my darling Romeo. How shall we greet them?"
Romeo also looked at the three, and recognized Mindy and Jasmine. "It is those two, dear. These little mouses we have punished earlier." He then looked specifically at Alexis, "Looks like they have brought the big mean rat with them. The leader of those rodents, hmm?"
"R-RAT?! WHY YOU, I OUGHTA-" Jasmine's temper flared up, but was promptly stopped by Alexis extending an arm to the side. "They can say what they want. Just don't buy into their words."
"Alexis, you're just so cool." Mindy stated in amazement and awe. "Anyways, so you two beat my friends. I'm here to avenge them! I challenge you to a duel, the both of you!" Alexis pointed at Romeo and Juliet, who couldn't help but snicker.
"Romeo, this girl, is not right in her head, is she?" Juliet asked her lover, who nodded in agreement. "She is, a brainless beauty. Of course, she does not hold a candle to your own beauty, Juliet."
"Brainless beauty? I asked you two for a duel, what's so brainless about it!" Alexis demanded, agitated with them. "Then pray tell, where is your partner?" Juliet asked.
"What partner? I'm going to duel you, one by one." Alexis exclaimed. She wondered why she even needed a partner in the first place. "So, let's get on, with it! I'm not leaving until you accept my challenge."
Romeo sighed. "Girl, we are not going to duel you unless you find someone to partner with. See, tag duels are allowed," He said with a smirk, "Just like my sunshine and I are not obligated to accept your challenge. If you understand that, get lost."
"Yeah, and don't think of teaming up with any of those two mouses there," Juliet referred to Mindy and Jasmine. "They are disqualified from the tournament; Romeo and I gave them the boot."
Alexis was annoyed with this, with their pompous attitude and their refusal, they were begging to be punched, or at least what Alexis thought. But she was adamant and would not leave until they dueled.
Luckily for her, someone decided to step in. And none other than Bastion Misawa, The Ra Yellow prodigy. "Give it up, Alexis, they are not going to raise a finger like this." He said with his trademark smile as he approached.
Alexis was a bit surprised to see him. "Bastion? What are you doing here?" She asked. "Well, dueling, obviously. And I couldn't help but overhear your conversation, you are at your wits' end with them. Luckily, I have decided to step in. Alexis, would you mind if I partnered up with you for this duel?"
Jasmine and Mindy were to say the least bewildered with it. With Mindy being more confused, and Jasmine offended. "Hey, what's the big idea here, Ra yellow?" Jasmine asked in a defensive tone. "Trying to get close to Alexis?! We won't let you!"
"Quiet, Jasmine!" Alexis said, causing the redhead to shut up. "If that's what it takes for the two lovey-dovey weirdos there to duel, then I'll do it. Bastion, I expect a good assistance from you."
"You got it, Alexis. I always put forth one hundred percent into a duel, no matter what." Bastion spoke as his smile faded and he took on a much more serious expression.
"What interesting development!" Romeo said, intrigued by it. But that didn't shave off his cocky grin, same for Juliet. "Juliet, my love, would you perhaps join me, hands in hands, as we teach these two poor fellows how unbreakable our love is?"
Juliet nodded, as she stared straight into his eyes, "With pleasure, my darling. Our love, much like our dueling, is flawless and perfect. I bet these two don't even know how to tag duel, even."
"We know how to, thank you very much!" Alexis stated as she readied her duel disk, while Bastion did the same. "If you're done blabbering, then let's go!" She exclaimed. Juliet and Romeo let out a snicker before getting ready to battle.
"DUEL!" The four of them shouted in tandem. "Since you claimed that you know how tag duels work, you are aware that we start with double the usual amount of life points, yes?" Romeo asked. "With that said, let's start. Ladies first."
"You are just too kind, my sweetheart!" Juliet said. "Uhm, well, Ladies first. You go before me, Alexis." Bastion nervously said. "Alright, doesn't matter one way or the other." Alexis shrugged.
(Juliet/Romeo: 8000 LP)
(Alexis/Bastion: 8000 LP)
"Ahem, anywho, it is my turn." Juliet said as she drew a card. "Watch this, darling," She told Romeo. "I summon 'Warrior Lady of the Wasteland' in attack mode!" With that, a lady indeed appeared. She sported green clothes and boots, with her left arm wrapped in bandages and a sword on her back. (ATK/ 1100 | DEF/ 1200)
"I'll then set two cards face down, and I will simply wait for my beloved Romeo's turn." She stated, smiling.
"Hmph! I think I'm getting sick of you two!" Alexis stated, "My turn, draw!"
Alexis took one good look at the cards she held. "Alright, Juliet, it's time to go to war as I summon my friend 'Blade Skater' to the field!" Alexis exclaimed, summoning an ice skater with a bit too much blades for her liking. (ATK/ 1400 | DEF/ 1500)
"Alexis, be careful! Those face down cards could be deadly traps!" Bastion warned. "Maybe, but we won't know until I try! Go, Accel Slicer!" Alexis waved her hand as her monster skated its way towards Juliet's and destroyed it by slicing it into pieces, with Juliet taking battle damage. (Juliet/Romeo: 8000 → 7700 LP)
"Dear, go ahead." Romeo spoke, crossing his arms. "Of course." Juliet nodded. "By destroying Warrior Lady, you've activated her effect. When is she is sent to the graveyard by battle, I can summon one EARTH Warrior-Type monster with fifteen hundred attack points or less from my deck in face-up attack position!" She stated, while grabbing her deck and searching it.
"And I choose my 'D.D Warrior Lady' to join the battlefield!" Juliet exclaimed as a monster that resembled the warrior lady- Or perhaps even was her in a different outfit, appeared. (ATK/ 1500 | DEF/ 1600)
Bastion narrowed his eyes. "Yeah, I expected you would summon this monster. This girl is going to be one tough lady to defeat." He said.
"Well, let's work to making that happen." Alexis said, "I'll just throw down three cards face down then end my turn."
"For daring to destroy my dear Juliet's monster and harming her, I will not forgive this!" Romeo shouted with vigor. "Go get them, My darling!" Juliet cheered him on while Bastion and Alexis sighed.
"It is my turn, and I draw!" exclaimed Romeo. "Vorse Raider, in attack mode!" He said, with a menacing creature wielding a weapon appeared that boasted impressive attack points. (ATK/ 1900 | DEF/ 1200)
He then looked at Juliet who looked at him back, and both nodded. "I will attack Blade Skater with D.D. Warrior Lady!" With that, D.D. Warrior Lady lunged forwards at Blade Skater, ready to destroy.
"I don't think so!" Alexis said, unveiling one of her face down cards. "Sakuretsu Armor! When your monster declares an attack, I can target said monster and destroy it!"
Romeo growled. "I will not let you destroy my precious Juliet's monster!" He said, activating a spell card from his hand. "My body as a shield!" He said, activating a quick-play spell cards.
"By paying fifteen hundred life points, I can negate your trap card!"
But... Alexis still had a few tricks up her sleeve.
"Not so fast! I activate my second trap card! Magical Drain!" She exclaimed, revealing the second of her face down cards. "Now, unless you're willing to discard one of your spell cards, I'm afraid that your card will be useless!"
Romeo had a frown which then curled into a smile. "Is that all? A small price to pay for the safety of my dear." He said, sending a spell card to the graveyard and paying the cost for his card. (Juliet/Romeo: 7700 → 6200 LP)
Bastion was starting to become suspicious of this. "He is willing to go so far just to protect a single monster? I think this man isn't in his right mind. But then again..What's going to come next will surely hurt." He turned to look at Alexis who was shocked.
The duel resumed; Juliet's monster destroyed Alexis' Blade Skater. Before Romeo's Vorse Raider attacked her directly, causing Alexis to yell in pain as their life points dropped. (Alexis/Bastion: 8000 → 6000 LP)
"This is what you deserve for trying to harm my sweet, lovely Juliet!" Romeo proudly exclaimed, meanwhile had set a face-down card. "Oh, Romeo! Thank you for everything! Our love will triumph over these worms!" Juliet said.
"D-Darn it, this is all making me sick!" Alexis cursed. "Don't lose your head, Alexis. We are still in it. Now, I believe it was my turn," Bastion stated. He then took a moment to ponder his next actions.
"Here goes, I activate my spell card, Lightning Vortex." Bastion said. "I send one card from my hand to my graveyard, then, all of your monsters will be destroyed."
"What?!" Both Romeo and Juliet went as clouds appeared above the four duelists. Bastion discarded a card and as a result, two lightning bolts struck the monsters from the cloud, leaving the lovely team's field bare and devoid of any monsters.
"This is my chance to deal damage! I summon Beta the Magnet Warrior!" Bastion said as he summoned a yellow being with magnets. (ATK/ 1700 | DEF/ 1600)
"Beta, huh? That's one of Yugi's magnetic monsters." Alexis commented.
"You have no protection on your side of the field, Romeo and Juliet. You're wide open! Go, Beta!" Bastion commanded as his monster levitated towards the two of them, ready to attack.
However, the attack was stopped as Romeo's Vorse Raider appeared again. "Hm hm hm! You didn't think it would be that easy, my naïve friend! Call of the Haunted!" Romeo exclaimed, revealing a face down card. "Now Vorse Raider will protect both my love and I from your savage attack!"
"Hm. I suppose I should have expected a situation such as this." Bastion stated, "Very well, I'll activate these two continuous spell cards. Heart of the Underdog, and Two-Man Cell Battle. And I end my turn." He said. "Oh, and because of the latter card, I can special summon one level four normal monster from my hand to the field. I choose you, Gamma the Magnet Warrior in defense mode!"
Appearing next to Beta, was a being that looked somewhat similar, except with a pink instead. It wasn't as strong as Beta the Magnet Warrior, but had a defense. Yet, it was surpassed by Vorse Raider's strength. (ATK/ 1500 | DEF/ 1800)
Alexis nodded, at the very least they had something to protect them. But this didn't look good. "These two might be lovestruck weirdoes, but they really can duel in a team…" She noted to herself. "But I'm not going to give up. For Duel Academy...For Atticus."
