It was soon the next day and back at the facility where Starfire is. The inmates, Skylar, and Demetra were outside in the bare light that came out.
"I am really confused, Starfire." Called out Demetra. "Why is everyone else allowed to go out to the courtyard and you aren't, for an hour?" She questioned Starfire who was behind the window and could talk through it.
"Not sure if you noticed, but I can fly, and since they are afraid that I will escape. And besides, I stated previously, my strength comes from the sun, and they wish to keep me weakened as possible." Starfire explained and sighed in boredom.
"Ah, now I understand and it's quite unfair..." Demetra agreed.
"Life is not fair."
"But don't worry Starfire! We will stay right here and keep ya company." Demetra said, and it sounded insisting so Starfire smiled.
"I thank you for the company."
"Speaking of a true pessimist..." Skylar came over, leaning against a wall. "Girl, when I braided your hair a day ago, I was so jealous!"
"Do you know who else has the hair that is so nice?" Starfire asked.
"Lemme guess, your love bird Robin??" Skylar teasingly answered.
Starfire blushed real bad. "You are correct, Skylar."
"Got to be honest with you. You have spoken about him non stop since you wrote the letter!"
"Well, THAT may be true, but the real truth is, it was your idea! Besides... I miss him..."
"Girl, I feel you. I want to know why he hasn't come and visited you yet!"
"My obvious guess would be that he may be embarrassed... or... maybe he just doesn't want to see me in prison uniform?" Starfire answered in an unsettling way.
"There ya go! Cat got your tongue! You are a pessimist. If I learned anything about what you said about him or what I saw on the news, he hasn't come back because he is not allowed to."
"What do you mean?"
"Well... He's like a ninja. Isn't he good at sneaking into buildings and escaping from criminals?" Skylar asked.
"True," Starfire answered back. "But the real truth is, he was raised by an Elite group of Assassins at the birth."
"Okay. but first of all, that is true, and second. Why would they let a guy like that near a prison?"
Starfire had to giggle for once. "You are right! I do not know why I worry about such a thing."
"You know what they always say, Love, makes you do craziest things."
"That it does." Starfire shrugged.
Starfire and Skylar were talking until Demetra interrupted their small conversation.
"Oh my god! Guys! Come over here quick! It's news about you!" Demetra pointed at Starfire.
"Me?" Starfire confusingly asked.
Demetra grabbed her wrist and yanked her to the TV. "come over here, girl."
"Whoa!"
Demetra, Starfire, and Skylar were already in the area where the TV was. Starfire listened carefully and watched.
"BREAKING NEWS:"There are so many questions and doubts surrounding the events that caused the Titan to be arrested and imprisoned. The head of the Titans, Robin, felt something a miss and has joined the JCPD in investigating the situation."
"What does JCPD mean??" Skylar asked quietly.
"It means Jump City Police Department, now listen!" Demetra whispered back.
The TV camera switched to Robin and Robin was now being seen on LIVE. "Starfire is my best friend and a loyal teammate to all of us. I know her better than anyone else. There was no reason for this so-called murder. The trial was strange enough. I have been to court multiple times as a witness for crimes. Given the evidence, the punishment was harsh. If Starfire was guilty, it should be for involuntary manslaughter. The case is being reopened and we will find out what happened."
The TV camera turned back to the host.
"Suspicious occurrences also came to light after Starfire was arrested. Such as the autopsy for Dr. Light was never released. The city continues to mourn the loss of one of our greatest heroes. There is no doubt in my mind, that she should be released."
The TV completely switched to another channel.
Starfire just stared at the screen in shock and in surprisement that does not look good at all.
"Hey, are you okay?" Demetra asked quietly, not even daring to raise her voice to the alien girl cause if she were to, then she knows that she will be punched in the guts.
"Yes..." A smile has formed on her lips. "Now I know what Raven meant when she said he was busy!"
Skylar embraced a hug from behind Starfire, gently resting her head on her shoulder. Starfire smiled and grabbed both her hands and laid on top of Skylar's arms that were wrapped around her body. "Well, I'm gonna miss you, girl."
Starfire shot up and gently removed her hands and Skylar's arms away from her body.
"Please do not say such things until we know things for sure. We do not know how long it will take to get the evidence sorted out." Starfire stated.
"Okay, I understand. But what if I get parole next time, I say I get to meet the rest of the Titans?"
Starfire squealed in delight. "Of course you can! My friends will enjoy your company during your stay!" Starfire gave her a proper hug in return.
Pretty soon, a bus came over with a new load of inmates, swearing, dirty words, the trash talk was filling the area.
"Murderer!
"Slack!"
"Dead meat!"
"Crack!"
"Shut up!"
Starfire invested and grabbed both their shoulders, holding them in place with her alien strength.
"Stop!" She ordered with a confident voice. "This is not the place to fight each other!"
"Save it, Princess! This place is like the living hell! No one even cares!"
"This place is not hell!" Starfire barked. "This is a correctional facility. The guards are watching, the more you misbehave, the smaller the chance becomes for you to leave. Think of your loving parents, guardians!"
"Okay! But girl, listen! I don't have parents! I lived with my aunt until I got pregnant! Don't act as you understand me when you don't!" One girl snapped back, trying to be tough in front of Starfire.
Starfire gave her a deathly glare, then turned to the other girl, who was shocked and quite surprised. She let her go. And focused completely on the girl who had snapped at her.
"I was sold into slavery at early teenage years by my older sister. Before that, I was the only Tamaranian that was being held by the Gordanians! They experimented on me and abused me in such a way that nobody wants to hear. Both my parents deceased from heart failure and I was raised by a guardian. Now my sister is evil and is out to kill me. The Titans were the only friends that cared, and even loved me. And they were the only friends that ever came into my life! I put my life on the line every day for your safety and that of the people. So no. I do not understand your situation and I do not think you understand mine." Starfire coldly said the story.
The girl didn't even say another word. She was silent. And a bit scared actually. Starfire let her go approximately. The guards took both girls on their wrists.
"You will be solitary for the next two days. Think about what has been made" Said the guard as they were leading the two girls away.
As Starfire saw the girls leave with the guards, she was (out of nowhere) given applause from other inmates. Starfire stood firm, and a heroic pose. Her heart wrenched in pain. She began to feel like she belonged. Although the thought terrified her the most.
Visitors day came around a couple of days again. Skylar and Demetra were not to have many visitors, so it was just Starfire. Starfire sat on her seat and waited for someone to visit her, knowing exactly who it was. She smiled as soon as she saw a green looking dude came in.
"What'dup Starfire!"
"Hey, Beast Boy! How are you?"
"I'm feelin' great! How are you doing, mama?"
"Not too bad here."
"Yeah, I can see. Well, back at the Tower, It's the same old times, although, thanks to Robin's no fighting mandate, Cyborg has been making my meals vegan! And he hasn't complained ever since. Robin's busy, as always... Crimes down, no offense, and probably because of you."
"Well, I am most glad that Cyborg is making your meals, the vegan."
"Oh, speaking of meals, Robin wanted me to give ya this!"
Beast Boy pulled a box out of nowhere and slid the box to Starfire. The guards watched in curiosity.
Starfire opened the box and to her happiness and her gasp. It was four large bottles of golden and yellow heaven inside. Even with straws. Starfire had to let a few tears gone down her eyes. Beast Boy knew her reaction was priceless.
"I knew it, yo! Just as I asked."
"Oh, Beast Boy! Please, please tell Robin I thank him very much for this precious thing! And I thank you very much as well for bringing it to me." She beamed up with happiness.
"You're welcome anytime, Star! When he told us that you had no mustard, we all feared that your health was worsened and the other inmates' safety."
"Yeah. Umm, Is that all he said?" Starfire asked, one more time.
"That's all."
Starfire gave a sad look. "Not even a letter or a note?"
"Ha! I'm kiddin' Star! There is no way I would do that to you. Here." Beast Boy grabbed the letter and slid into Starfire from the other end.
Starfire excitedly took it and hid it in excitement, waiting to read it soon.
"Whatever you wrote to him, dude, it was majorly intense. And I have never seen him act all weird and stuff like that in my life!"
"What do you mean 'weird'?" Starfire asked.
"Oh, what I mean by that is, he smiled all the freaking time! We watched a horror movie and he smiled through it without being scared or flinched."
Starfire blushed and bit her lip from squealing.
"We even tested it! Cyborg told him that Slade has been spotted again and he just grinned back and said, 'okay'. Like, what kind of response is that!? He's giving me the creeps and NOW you're smiling like him too." Beast Boy said while being all fired up and then switched to creepiness because Starfire was smiling at him like Robin was.
Starfire couldn't contain it. She just giggled and blushed real bad again.
"But anyway, I gotta get going, and drink your Mustard." Beast Boy said.
Starfire giggled again and waved goodbye to her green friend. As soon as he was gone, she out of nowhere bolted to her cell room and hid the stuff that she got from him, and waited for the afternoon or night time to read it.
It was now during the night time and Starfire bolted to her cell room, floating into a sitting position and couldn't contain her excitement of reading the letter.
She calmed herself down before opening up the letter and giving it a big smile and happily read his response to her.
Dear Starfire,
I do miss you. A lot. The guys have probably told you enough of that. I will make sure to make Beast Boy send you some Mustard on his way to visit you.
I am glad you made friends! I was afraid that you would get very lonely, but I was wrong, and it looks like you met some nice people. I hope I can meet them soon and tell them, their gratitude for being your friend.
I am also very happy that you are enjoying classes and I'm sure you're doing just fine in your classes. You are very smart after all.
We miss you a TON!! I don't know if you saw the news, but the case is getting reopened! More likely, you'll be getting out! Things are looking good and we can only hope for the best.
When you get out, I have something very important to tell you, I hope you can patiently wait that long. And thank you for your letter! I loved it very much.
Your good friend,
Robin
Starfire laid on her back while flying. She did not want to wake her friend up, so she sighed in happiness. Having the biggest smile on her face and staring at the ceiling. Then her excitement came back. She hugged the letter and kicked her legs quietly and fell asleep.
