Rem: Zero Serious Edition!

Volume 1, Chapter: 7!

Forgive me if I'm bad at writing. I'm an ametuer writer and I still have a lot to learn in writing and narrations and stuff. So yeah,

"I wonder what I'm getting myself into… But it's only a matter of time to get Rem to understand the context of this story." Rem says to herself mostly, but she puts up a confident smile as she looks at both Lia and Subaru. "Even though I had a bad nightmare, that won't stop Rem from exploring this place and enjoying herself! Rem shall be a video game character if this is what the world has given her!"

Rem looks around as there is still no sign of that thief girl that passed her.
She has seen her before but she didn't really realize who she is up until she was mentioned and a memory just popped out, weird isn't it?

….

Hours later…
Rem, Subaru and Lia have not found the little girl they were chasing after. It seems like they've lost her, but for Rem she definitely knows where she is, but she can't be straight forward since she might be considered to be suspicious and she might be mistaken that she's a part of this whole thing so she's careful to not say where she is, but maybe give them tiny clues to where she is and eventually they'll arrive at the place.

But there's something that is still disturbing Rem, about that place...and the dream… She wonders if that was real, she wonders if her dream will happen. She's very curious and she really wants to see if what she dreamed is really going to happen, but she isn't going to risk it. Being touched without consent is worse than getting killed. Some say death can actually be an escape to and endless suffering. Death can be a friend, but who knows. Rem doesn't really believe in those things. If she dies, then she dies nothing else, although she would kind of prefer to end her life rather than suffer longer, but that's when there's another problem, what about the people who cared for you?

If you're gone, then they will suffer next, but seeing that Rem doesn't have anyone to care for her, she doesn't even have that option to resist death.

Subaru's eyes were searching the rooftops, every single one, but no luck was found.
Rem is sitting on stairs, just thinking to herself, but mostly thinking about that dream she had.

Subaru sighs. "It's no use. I think she's already gone. But that doesn't mean we'll stop here."

"I think you're right… We better keep moving and if she really is gone, we'll have no choice to go back where it all started."

"Right" Subaru says as he looks at Rem who is checking on her phone. She seems to be… touching it in a weird way. What is that thing she holds and why does it look like it doesn't belong here, perhaps she's from another country?

Rem turns around and sees Subaru staring at her which she quickly flustered and hid her phone. She looks at Subaru, but with no clue of what's going on.

"I-Is there something wrong? I-I'm just doing my own thing!" Rem says as she keeps her cool by bringing up a smile half way, but Subaru for the past few minutes finds it a bit strange that this person sounds like and looks like the person he was mentioning.

In his head, Rem may look like the one he's looking for but she could be just a stranger but no absolute clue of who she is related to.

"Ah, that's right!"
Lia says as she faces Rem. "Uh… Remura, was it?"

"Uh- Yes." Rem nods. "That's me. I-Is there something you need?"

"It's nice that you're willing to help us, and I do appreciate you don't wanting anything in return, but if I may ask, what's the point of it?" Lia asks as he takes a glance at Subaru before looking back at the confused Rem while she waits for her answer.

Rem doesn't really know her reason, but if there's one reason she can provide is that she just wants to. She doesn't really mind helping others if she has the opportunity so. It's been a while since she showed her kindness to everyone.

"Well… Re- I mean, I just told you, I'm doing this because I want to. I'm not seeking for any reward, or something like that. You can basically think of it as my hobby."

"Your hobby is helping random strangers?" Subaru asked while still taking glances at the roofs. Rem nods as she stands up and once again puts her hands to her waist.
"Yes indeed!" She shouted out with enthusiasm. "But she only helps those who are in need!"

"She?" Lia asked. Realizing her mouth slipped Rem just turns around covering her face and groans for her disappointment as she turns around facing the both of them again with a smile.
"My mouth slipped, haha! But I think it's time I tell you both something, or- you something lady. I'm not actually named Remura…"

She takes a deep breath before sighing as she puts her hands on her back bowing to them.
"My actual name is Rem Sasaki, and I'll be in your care for today of course."

Rem stood straight back up only to be met with a cat right in front of her.
She blinked a few times before getting startled and backing off.
She almost fell off the stairs but luckily she knows how to balance herself and eventually she regains her posture. She looks at the cat who she knows as Puck.

She was about to say something but she was met with a greeting, Puck happily shakes her hand with his paws as he introduces himself. It's still strange to Rem that she's seeing a magical cat floating in front of her, but this is a video game fantasy after all so she should probably get used to strange occurrences from now on.

Puck looks at Rem and sees she has some scars over her hands, but Rem hides them once Puck was looking at them.
"Y-you know it's not nice to look at someone with consent cat… You may be cute but cute things will have to ask Rem for permission to look at the things they're not supposed to be looked at." Rem says as Puck just shrugs and backs off looking at her more.

Being looked at by a cat is really embarrassing especially if it can speak for itself. But she has to wonder what he's thinking about it. As a cat lover she doesn't seem to see anything… questionable about Puck so she can cross out that one thing she was thinking about.

"It's quite amazing that you have a well built body for a woman, you must be a fighter or something."

"Oh? Uh- well I used to fight, I can still put up a good fight but- wait a minute, how do you know I fight?"

Puck flies around her, looking at her especially in the eyes. By her eyes he can already tell Rem has put down a lot of people, and looking back at the scars on her hands, she must have fought some people earlier.
Rem once again hides her hands but this time inside her pockets of her short jeans as she looks at Puck still wondering why he's so attentive to her.

Eventually he gives up taking a close look as he flies to Lia where he then sits on her shoulder. He then proceeds to whisper some things to Lia which starts to worry her, but one word from Puck makes her comfortable with Rem again, but Rem wonders what that was all about.

Subaru doesn't like to waste time, but it's nice being with someone he really admires for a long time.

The trio once confirming looking at the rooftops is pointless; they proceed to go back down to the road and start searching for possible clues to where Lia was robbed and eventually Rem stops as the other two keep going. Rem looks at the child with green hair, she seems lost and perturbed. She must've lost her parents.

Subaru noticed Rem wasn't following anymore as he looked around to see where she went and it turns out she was just behind them all along. Subaru touches Lia's shoulder stopping her as he walks to Rem where he then asks her directly what she's doing which surprised her a bit.

"I'm sorry for that, but what are you doing?" Subaru says as he raises an eyebrow, not noticing the child because that's less of his cares right now.

"U-Uhm sorry for the sudden stop. But I think that child over there is lost."

Subaru looks at the crying child while Lia just arrives and wonders what's going on until she sees the child herself.

Lia approaches the girl and Subaru and Rem watch her on what she does.

Subaru is looking at Rem, having doubts still. Rem is just trying not to act suspicious at all, so she can make them comfortable around her, but it looks like it's happening the other way.

…

Rem sees that girl is crying and Subaru looks at the situation and he just decides to barge in and show a little magic trick to her and it turns out to be a success as the girl seems blown away by it and is a bit cheered up.

"Strange… He jumped in when Lia tried to comfort the child, but… it looks like that didn't go well…" It's what's in Rem's head right now.

Rem looks at Subaru, successful of comforting the little girl with his little coin trick.

Rem certainly knows how to do that since she used to do it when she was young, but she's kind of curious why Subaru knows that.

Is it a common magic trick here as well?

Lia and Subaru both looked at each other and they gladly share a smile together

Rem seeing this kind of makes her blush, and a little bit happy for them.
She doesn't know why she's blushing over this, maybe because it's just so cute?
