Three week later
Jay was currently at her desk, doing some paperwork. It had been three weeks with barely knowing how Hailey was doing. Hank had forced Hailey to take a few weeks off to recover from what happened.
He had talked to Hailey on the phone almost every day, but was still hesitant to go over to Vanessa's house to see her. He didn't want Hailey to be any more scared of him than she already is. He had to admit though, he did have a similar build to James.
Jay went to talk to Vanessa.
"Hey, Vanessa." Jay said as he entered the breakroom.
"Hi, Jay. What up?" Vanessa asked
"Well I was thinking of stopping by to see how Hailey was doing." Jay said
"That's great. Hailey is dying, to see you." Vanessa said
"Really?" Jay asked
"Yeah. I swear she's in love with you." Vanessa said.
"Yeah, but she is not ready for another relationship. She needs to heal and recover from what James did to her." Jay said
"How do you know that? Are you the person who sees the way her eyes light up when I speak of you? She needs you, Jay. She needs someone who will make her understand that she is loved. She needs you, Jay." Vanessa said, tears in her eyes.
"I'll stop by later today." Jay said as he squeezed Vanessa's shoulder before walking out.
"Wait, i just wanted to warn you that she is not feeling well. She had a huge nightmare this morning and wouldn't talk about it." Vanessa said
"Okay thank you for the head up." Jay said
"And I'm also going to be late home. So why don't you two have a nice long talk." Vanessa said
"Okay." Jay said
He said goodbye bye and walked out.
Few fews hours later
It was finally time for Jay to go to see Hailey, he gathered his thing and walked downstairs.
30 minutes later Jay finally pulled up in Vanessa driveway. He got out of the car and walked up to the door. He knocked on the door and waited patiently for Hailey to open the door.
When the door opened to reveal the beautiful blue-grey eyed woman, he couldn't help but stare in awe. Hailey was dressed in a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, her hair in a ponytail.
"Hey Jay." Hailey said.
"Hey, wonderful." Jay said with a smile watching as Hailey's eyes lit up before it disappeared as if she didn't believe what Jay said.
"Are you okay?" Jay asked
"Yeah." Hailey said
"Why don't we go sit on the couch and talk." Jay suggested with a smile.
After a few seconds of silence, Jay decided it was time to have a hard conversation.
"Hailey, we need to talk." Jay said
"Okay." Hailey said, softly
"So Vanessa and I talked today. She says you've been having nightmares." Jay said, gently.
Hailey leaned back on the couch and Jay did the same, not taking his eyes off of Hailey.
A few minutes later
"Do you want to talk about it?" Jay asked as he watched Haileys eyes fill with tears.
"Its okay if you don't want to." Jay said softly, trying to prove that he wasn't attempting to force Hailey to do anything she wasn't okay with.
"They're not that bad." Hailey whispered.
"That's not what Vanessa said." Jay said, gently.
Hailey remained quiet. Jay was starting to question if a relationship at this point was actually good for Hailey. Jay wondered if it would do more damage than good, or maybe he could actually help Hailey understand what love is and help her distinguish it from pain and violence. Maybe a relationship filled with love would be good for Hailey.
"Okay, I can tell that you don't want to talk about it and that's okay, so I'll leave it alone, but if you want to talk, you know I'm here for you, okay?" Jay asked, rubbing his thumb over Haileys knuckles.
Hailey nodded.
"Hals, I need to ask you something else, but I want you to know that if you don't feel like you're ready, then tell me, okay? I don't want you to feel pressured into anything, okay?" Jay asked, nervously.
"Okay." Hailey said, clearly confused.
"Would you like to go out on a date with me?" Jay asked.
"Really with me, but Why?" Hailey asked
"Hailey, you are the most beautiful, amazing person I have ever met. You're strong and wonderful and just breathtaking. Don't doubt that. You're right, you don't deserve me, but that's because you deserve better. You deserve the best, but all I can offer is what I have and I have love, Hals. I have real love, the kind that doesn't hurt, the kind that makes you feel like you're in heaven. I have that kind of love, and if you let me, I'll show you." Jay said in a voice, barely above a whisper.
Hailey just stared at her.
"Yeah i would love to go on a date with you." Hailey said
"You're the best, Hals. There's no better than you." Jay whispered as he kissed Hailey's forehead, wrapping his arms around her.
"How about tomorrow?" Jay asked, pulling back from the embrace.
"Okay, what time?" Hailey asked.
"Uhm, maybe 6? Is that good with you?" Jay asked.
"Yeah, that's perfect." Hailey said
