It had been a couple months since Erin and Jay had moved in together. Everything was going well considering.
They were walking down a back street in a rough neighbourhood after making an arrest. Erin couldn't stop looking at Jay. She had the biggest grin on her face as she rested her hands on her hips.
"We live together, again." She said once he noticed her looking at him.
"Yep," Jay nodded as he started smiling, "Once again."
"Just want to check in, how are you? Are you happy?"
"Couldn't be happier, you?"
"Me too" Erin paused "There's nothing bothering you?"
"No everything's good on my end, you?" Jay assured her.
"Yeh no everything's good," she paused again, "I mean there is one thing."
"Oh boy," Jay sighed as he looked at her with a smirk and a raised eyebrow.
"No it's not you, it's me. It's my thing," she chuckled, "I usually sleep with a lot of pillows and you know I like to cuddle with you when we go to sleep."
"Okay," looking confused as they walked up to the GMC, "How many pillows we talking?"
"Well two under my head, one for me to angle, one pulled into my chest..."
"So four?" Jay interrupted raising his eyebrows in surprise as he leant on the roof of the car.
"Um six, because I like to have two ready in case I roll over in my sleep." Erin smiled awkwardly.
"Okay got it, how come I never noticed this last time we lived together?"
Erin shrugged, guess they didn't make it that far so Erin never bought it up in conversation, "I just didn't want to pull them out of the closest incase you felt..."
"Walled off?" Jay said finishing her sentence, letting a tiny chuckle slip between his lips.
"Yeah."
"Erin I'm going to tell you what I would tell you a year from now. Two years from now, Twenty years from now...Do your thing babe." He smiled as he opened the door.
"Your amazing."
"Oh yeah," he winked at her as they both got in and drove away.
...
Back at the district everyone was finishing up paperwork. Voight came out of his office. "Drinks on me tonight everyone, see you at Molly's."
Everyone shared looks, this never happened. Ruzek jumped up quickly, "Well I don't know about you's but I think that's an invite to get drunk, boss is paying. See everyone there I hope."
Upton, Atwater and Burgess followed suit, "Hell yeah we are in."
Jay smiled. This was it. He looked at Erin and walked over to her, "I gotta go do a couple things first and then I will be there are you right to get a lift with someone?"
"Yeh sure Jay, everything good?" She was slightly confused.
"Everything's great babe, trust me," he smiled and kissed her cheek, "See you soon."
...
Later at Molly's, everyone was drinking and having a good time. Erin was sitting with Will and Hailey waiting for Jay. It had been at least an hour and he still wasn't there.
"Where the hell is he?" She had left like four messages and he still hadn't replied.
"Trust me Erin he's gunna be here." Hailey assured her.
Will pointed to the doorway, "Look here he comes."
She walked over to him and pulled him aside "What the hell Jay? You had me worried! Talk to me is something going on?"
"Erin everything's fine okay, I'm just going to grab a beer," Jay made his way over to the bar as he nodded at Hermann. Erin stood still in the middle of Molly's confused, what was he keeping from her.
Everything went dark besides some twinkly fairy lights that lit up where Erin was standing. Erin turned around to see Jay on one knee and her entire family and friends watching.
Erin gasped, "Jay..."
"Erin Lindsay, from the moment I met you I haven't been able to stop thinking about this moment. We have definitely had our hard times but we have had many good ones to make up for them. From continually getting told that we had to stay away from each other it only made me love you and want you more. I lost you for a while and I was never able to fill the hole you left. I don't know how long we will be partners for but I know for damn sure I want you in my life for the rest of mine. I love you Erin so I guess what I'm asking is will you do the honour in marrying me?"
"Thought you'd never ask breakdancer," she let out a chuckle, "Yes Jay Halstead I will marry you," he got up and slipped the ring on her finger then quickly picked her up in his arms and kissed her.
The entire room was filled with cheers and claps. Everyone congratulated the two with hugs and handshakes. No one could be happier for them. They were finally going to get there happy ending.
"Jay, Erin. You's got a sec? Voight said from behind them.
"Sure sarge," they followed him over to a table in the back as they sat down. Jay wrapped his arm protectively around Erin, he wasn't letting go.
"Well Jay I think I have to say this is the probably the biggest time you have ever disobeyed a direct order from me. Yet it's probably the most proud I have ever been of you. You've made me proud, I know you will treat her right. So congratulations to you both," Hank raised his glass as he toasted them.
Erin got up and gave Hank a hug "Thanks Hank."
Jay shaking Voight's hand, "I won't let her down sarge you have my word."
Voight chuckled, "Let's skip the formalities, it's Hank outside of work Jay, your part of the family now."
