I just want to say a special thank you to RJRMovieFan- you gave me a lot of inspiration for this chapter, and I hope it lives up to your expectations! And I know I don't say this a lot (I know, I suck) but your guys' support and reviews really mean a lot to me. I'm happy to get every single review, even if it's not necessarily one I'd hope for, so thank you guys so much!
Anyway, on with the show!
Day 8- Wait… What?
Beca groans as she wakes up to her alarm playing Simple Minds once again, blinking at the ceiling. It takes a couple seconds of waiting for Chloe to call to realize that she's not going to call, and she sighs as she rolls over. As she rolls, though, she underestimates where she is in the bed, and she ends up rolling right off her bed and onto the floor.
"Are you ok?" She hears a yell from downstairs, and she groans with pain as she sits up, assessing herself for injuries.
Once she affirms that the only pain she's experiencing is mentally and being slightly sore, she yells back, "Yeah, I'm fine!" She then stands up and walks over to her dresser, pulling out the same suit she used to wear when she was a music producer and putting it on.
When she gets downstairs, she sees Emily sitting at the island with a mug of coffee, scrolling through something on her phone. She looks up at her and says, "You slept a lot."
With a scoff, Beca sits down opposite from her, resting her head against her hand as she says, "It was on and off. I didn't really sleep for shit."
"Oh." Emily frowns at her, then goes back to messing with her phone. "Do you need me to hang out again tonight?"
Beca shrugs. "That's completely up to you. If you don't want to, I understand."
"I guess I'll see you tonight then." With a sad look, she adds, "I've done some thinking…"
"And?"
"You should talk to Chloe."
"Why the hell would I want to do that?" She grunts, slightly surprised at what the younger woman has just said.
"Because you two are best friends. What she said was wrong, yes. And yesterday, I was slightly mad that she made you upset. But she's family, Beca, and I can't turn my back on her like that. You understand, right?" She bites her bottom lip nervously, and Beca sighs before nodding.
"Yeah, I understand. I'll, uh…" Another sigh. "I'll talk to her after work, ok? I overreacted anyway." Now that she thinks about it, she could have handled things a little better. Kicking Chloe out of the house was definitely not the smartest thing she's ever done, that's for sure.
"Perfect. As much as I would love to keep talking to you about this, I really should get to work."
"I should probably get to work too." Beca sighs, leaning over the counter to awkwardly give Emily a hug. "I'll see you later then, I guess."
"Yeah." Emily gives her a small smile, then walks out of the house, closing the door softly behind her. Beca sits and stares at the door for a couple of minutes before groaning and heading back to her room, dragging her feet the whole time. She almost goes back to bed once she's reached her destination, but the idea of being distracted for a full day sounds way more enticing to the singer. She enters the master bathroom and brushes her hair and teeth, then grabs her usual stuff and heads out the door, locking it behind her. Deciding she doesn't want to walk today, she hails a taxi.
"Where to, ma'am?" The driver asks once she gets in, turning to look at her. "Oh my God."
"NYC Recording Studios, please." She grumbles, not at all in the mood to deal with an excited fan today. He seems to get the message; his face falls, and he simply nods as he turns back around and starts driving. To pass time, she pulls out her phone to play Best Fiends, but freezes when she sees it's still on her messages with Chloe.
All of a sudden, everything hits her; Chloe admitted to being in love with her as well, and she pushed her away. Oh my god, she thinks to herself angrily, this time annoyed with herself. She was right; I do push everyone away. She internally screams at herself, thinking of all the different ways yesterday could've gone. More than anything, she wishes she would've just kissed her, or told her she felt the same, or did anything other than screaming at her and ignoring her texts.
Chloe, I'm so sorry. She hits send, then immediately starts typing out another message. I reacted horribly yesterday. Like, really bad. I know that, no matter how many times I say sorry, it won't make a difference, but I'm going to try anyway. I'm a seriously fucked up person, and I don't get how you fell for me. At all.
She's slightly shocked when Chloe's response comes in right away, her heart pounding harder with each word she reads. No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said what I did about Jesse, especially with what just happened not that long ago. And you're not a terrible person. You're this caring, passionate, witty, awkward weirdo, and that's exactly why I fell in love with you.
It's now or never, she tells herself after she's read the text from Chloe for the third time. She knows that this is when she's supposed to do what she should've done yesterday. There's something I need to tell you.
Yeah?
I, uh… She hits send, her nerves suddenly getting the best of her. She freezes, her hands positioned to type the second part, but it seems as if her nerves and her brain have disconnected: her brain sends the order to continue typing, but the synapse dies out, and her fingers are unable to carry out the order.
Beca? Are you ok? The message coming in from Chloe causes Beca to blink herself out of her funk.
Yeah, yeah I'm ok. I need you to know that I love you too.
What?
Her heart leaps in her throat, knowing now that she can't go back even if she wanted to. I'm in love with you, Chloe Beale. I have been since college.
"Ma'am?" The driver gets Beca's attention, and she looks up at him with an annoyed scowl. "We're here."
"Thanks." She says, throwing twenty dollars over the seat as she crawls out, not even turning to see the expression on his face. Not wanting to wait another minute, she practically runs into the building and up to her office, ignoring Theo's look of shock on her way up. The second the door is closed behind her, she pulls her phone back out, reading Chloe's response with baited breath. Why did you push me away then?
I don't know. She types back, making her way to her desk and sitting in the swivel chair. Getting an idea, she texts, Is there any way you can take some time off of work to come over?
I took the day off.
Oh. She immediately feels bad, knowing she's more than likely the reason why, especially since Chloe never takes work off unless she absolutely has to. I'm sorry I fucked up.
It's ok, I needed the time off regardless. Can I come over now?
Beca feels a smile grow on her face as she types out her response. Yeah, see you soon.
Ok, I love you.
Love you too. Just as she hits send, her phone powers off, and she groans in frustration. She presses the power button several times, getting more and more annoyed when it shows that it's dead. "Dammit." Already knowing she doesn't have a charger in her office (Chloe's brilliant idea, not hers- "payback for not charging it the night before," she had said), she heads back downstairs with a pout on her face.
"What can I help you with, Miss Mitchell?" Jaxxon asks with a polite smile on his face, immediately assessing Beca's expression.
"Do you have an iPhone 11 charger?" She asks as sweetly as she can manage, and he sighs before shaking his head.
"I do not, sorry."
She shrugs. "It's ok. Do you think Theo would?"
"He uses a Samsung."
"Of fucking course she does." She mutters, then gives Jaxxon another smile. "Well, thanks anyway." She makes her way back up to her office, sitting back down and opening her laptop. Since it's almost Christmas, she doesn't really have much work to do (everything else that needs to be done on the album is Theo's job), so she pulls up to pass by time.
After three rounds, she hears a knock on her door, and she glances over to see Theo standing there with a grin on his face. She waves him in, and he closes the door behind him before perching on the edge of her desk. "What do you need, Theo?"
"I've got good news." He says, and she looks away from her game. "The album's complete."
"Seriously?" She asks with shock, and he nods, his grin growing. "Finally!"
"I know, right? I was thinking you could start touring after New Years-"
"Dude." She rolls her eyes at him, effectively cutting him off. "How am I going to do concerts for a Christmas album after Christmas?"
He stares at her for a solid minute before responding. "I… didn't think that through."
Beca lets out a small laugh. "Of course you didn't."
He huffs. "Here's the finished CD, I thought you might want to listen to it before it's released."
"You thought right." She snatches it out of his hand and inserts it into her laptop. As she does so, he stands up and walks out of the office, allowing Beca to listen to the music alone.

A loud bang disrupts Beca from her music halfway through the album, and she jumps up out of the chair and yanks her headphones off when she sees Aubrey barging at her. "Aubrey?" She expects her to stop moving once she's closer, but she doesn't; she pushes her into the nearest wall and points a finger in her face, the two of them mere centimeters apart.
"What the hell are you playing at, Beca?" She hisses in her face, and Beca flinches against the intensity of the growl momentarily. She's made Aubrey mad before, but never this mad.
"What the fuck are you even talking about?" She growls back, and Emily runs into the room before Aubrey can respond, bending forward with her hands on her knees and breathing heavily.
"I… told you… to wait." She pants at Aubrey, but she ignores her as she continues to glare at Beca, who's growing more confused by the second.
"Do you not check your phone throughout the day or something?"
"It's dead." Beca immediately defends herself and turns slightly to look at Emily, who's now standing upright. "What the hell is going on?"
Aubrey glares at her for another second before backing away, and her expression softens when she realizes that Beca's truly confused. Before she can say anything, though, Emily says, "Chloe's in the hospital."
"Wait… what?"
Emily nods solemnly as Beca looks at her with wide eyes, and Aubrey lays a hand on Beca's shoulder, although she's still trying to calm down. "She was in a car accident. She's ok though, Stacie's taking care of her."
"Your wife is a lifesaver." She mutters to Aubrey, not missing the brief look of pain on Emily's face as she says it. "Now, let's get to the hospital." Her voice wavers at the end, and the last of Aubrey's anger fades as she pulls Beca in for a hug. Beca awkwardly wraps her arms around the blonde, and she lets go when she realizes how awkward it's all become.
"Yeah, let's go." They immediately walk out of the building, ignoring Theo and Jaxxon calling out to them. Getting into the backseat of Aubrey's minivan, Beca sees a charger and plugs it into her phone.
"Em, plug this in, please?" She throws the brunette the other end, and Emily nods before plugging it in under the center console. Aubrey starts the van and pulls out of the parking lot, surprising Beca when she drives about ten miles over the speed limit.
"Aubrey." Emily lays a reassuring hand on her arm, and the car slows down another five miles. Beca doesn't even get the chance to go through her missed texts and calls from Aubrey, Emily, and Stacie before they get to the hospital, and she thanks the aca-gods (the Bellas' weirdness has really grown on her, although she refuses to admit it out loud) for working so close to it.
"Let's go." Aubrey says as soon as the car is parked, and they quickly make their way into the lobby. Aubrey leads them through some hallways, and eventually they find Stacie leaning against a door, her phone in her face. She hugs Aubrey as soon as the trio walk up, and Beca hears Emily sigh wistfully next to her as they hang back for a second.
Once she pulls away, Stacie walks over to the other two and gives them both brief hugs before getting to the matter at hand. "Chloe will be ok. She has a fracture on an inferior medial lumbar vertebra-"
"English please, doc." Beca cuts her off, and Stacie gives her a sheepish smile.
"Sorry. One of the bones in the bottom of her back is fractured, and it's really close to the spinal cord. Honestly, she's lucky. The injury could've been a lot worse."
"So what's the plan?" Emily asks after a moment of silence.
"Since it's a fracture and not a shatter, it'll be a quick surgery. We'll screw the vertebra back together with a small titanium plate, and if all goes well, she'll be good as new."
"Can I see her before the surgery?" Beca asks timidly, and Stacie nods.
"She's actually been asking for you." She then turns and starts walking down a hallway, and the three other women are quick to follow. "How is everything going, by the way?" Doctor Stacie disappears and is quickly replaced with Concerned Friend Stacie.
"Well, we're talking again." She says as they enter another lobby. Stacie doesn't stop moving, though, and they keep walking down more hallways. "How far is she?"
"Not that far, I just wanted to wait near the entrance for you three." She shrugs nonchalantly. "And that's good, I hated seeing her like that." Her voice holds no aggression or accusation, and for that Beca is grateful.
Suddenly, Stacie opens the door to a room, and they see Chloe sitting up at a slightly awkward angle, immediately grinning when her eyes land on Beca's. Wasting no time, Beca makes her way to her side, taking her hand in hers and looking intently into her eyes. Chloe just stares back, her smile turning a little sad, and Beca's stomach plummets. "I'm so sorry Chloe, this is all my fault."
"No, it isn't." She shakes her head, her grin gone at this point. "This wasn't anyone's fault except nature."
"Yeah, but if I wouldn't have-" She's cut off by Chloe pressing her lips to hers softly, and this time, Beca takes advantage of the moment. She grips the back of her neck softly with one hand, and the other lays against her shoulder as she kisses her back just as softly, almost as if they're still afraid that this isn't real, and that they'll scare the other away- which Beca is definitely still scared of.
She thought that the kiss at Efron's party was amazing, but this? Fully knowing that Chloe likes her back and is kissing her because she wants to, might just be the best thing that's ever happened to Beca.
Slowly, Chloe pulls away, her eyes searching Beca's carefully. Reassuringly, Beca brings their foreheads together and smiles at her, and Chloe laughs happily at the gesture. Even when they hear the other girls talking about how it's "about fucking time" in the background, neither one of them moves, and neither smile fades. That is, until Stacie interrupts.
"I hate to break this up, but Chloe, it's time for your surgery." The redhead doesn't look away when she nods to the doctor, and Beca's smile falls a little.
"She'll be ok, right?" She asks Stacie, and she sees her nod out of her peripheral vision.
"This is a very simple procedure that won't take long, won't need a cast, and doesn't have a long recovery period." Doctor Stacie comes back, and Beca lets out a small sigh of relief. "And Chloe?"
This time, Chloe backs away enough to look Stacie in the face as she responds. "Yes?"
"I'll be the one performing the surgery. You're in good hands, I promise."
"I know." She smiles at her. "I'm not worried." She then turns back to Beca, who's biting her nail nervously. "Hey, I'm going to be ok."
"I know." She shakes her head lightly. "I'll be here once you're out, ok?"
"Sounds perfect." Chloe leans forward and places a light kiss to her lips, which Beca happily reciprocates. "I'll see you when I get out."
"Yeah."
"Alright guys, I'm sorry, but I need you to go back to the lobby now." Stacie announces with an apologetic grimace. "Hospital policy."
"We understand." Emily says with a small smile, and her, Beca and Aubrey exit and make their way to the waiting room. They sit in the first three chairs they see, with Emily in the middle. Beca reaches into her pocket to grab her phone, then groans when she remembers she left it in Aubrey's car.
"Em." She whispers, and the younger Bella turns to look at her. "Can I use you as a pillow?" She asks hesitantly, and is relieved when the other woman simply nods with a sympathetic smile. "Wake me up as soon as something happens." She leans against her shoulder and closes her eyes.
"Beca, wake up." Aubrey immediately says, and Beca sits up.
"What?"
"Something happened. A kid moved."
"Shut the fuck up." She grumbles, and Aubrey laughs.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
A hand shaking her shoulder wakes Beca up, and she immediately sits up with a worried look on her face. "Is she ok?"
"Relax, Beca." Stacie laughs, and Beca does indeed relax at the happy look on Stacie's face. "The surgery went really well, and Chloe will most likely be able to go home in two or three days. But-" She pauses, looking intently at Beca. "She won't be able to live alone for a while, or go back to work."
"She can come home with me." She immediately says. "I'll take some work off and just spend time with her. God knows we need it."
Emily grins at her. "I think that's a great idea."
"Awesome. You guys can go in and see her now, but she's still asleep, so please be quiet." In a softer voice, Stacie adds, "My shift ends in a couple of hours, so I'll join you guys after."
"Ok." Aubrey gives her a quick kiss before the doctor leaves, leaving the other three women sitting there, staring at each other. "Well, let's go."
"Yeah." Beca quickly stands up, and the three of them make their way to Chloe's room in silence, each woman wrapped up in their own thoughts.
Beca's just happy that Chloe's ok at this point. Despite what the ginger said earlier, she still blames herself for this accident. If she would've waited until after work to talk to her, she'd be fine right now. In fact, they probably would be talking about everything at her house right now over a bottle of wine, not sitting in a hospital.
Once they enter the room, she immediately sits in the chair next to the bed, gingerly taking Chloe's hand in hers and rubbing her thumb in slow, soothing circles into the palm of her hand. "Hey Aubrey?"
"Yeah?" She whispers back, and Beca turns to look at her.
"I'm sorry."
"For what?" She blinks at the brunette, and she's so obviously shocked that Beca almost laughs.
"For what I did to Chloe yesterday-"
"Beca." She cuts her off with a wave of her hand. "I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the past is in the past." This time, it's Beca's turn to gape in surprise. "Did I want to kill you yesterday when Chloe showed up at our door? Yes. But now, I see how much you love her, and…" She trails off thoughtfully. "What happened happened. All that matters now is the present."
"You're right." Beca smiles at her, and Aubrey gives her a small smile in return before going back to her phone.
Her head whips back around when she feels Chloe's hand twitch in hers, and her dark, stormy eyes meet Chloe's bright blue ones. "Hey."
"Hey yourself." She whispers, and immediately, Emily and Aubrey stand up and surround the bed. Emily looks relieved, and Aubrey looks like she's ready to press the button to page Stacie at any moment. "How do you feel?"
"I've felt worse." She says, wincing as she tries to sit up. Emily and Beca immediately help her, and Beca carefully places the pillow behind her back as Emily uses the control to lift the front end of the bed up. "How long was the surgery?" Beca turns to Emily for an answer to Chloe's question.
"About three hours, actually." Beca glances at her phone, seeing that it's 6:30 already.
"Jesus Christ." She mutters, catching Chloe's eye again. "I'm so hungry right now, you have no clue." As if on cue, her stomach growls, and the ginger giggles.
"We can go get some food." Aubrey offers.
"It really only takes one-" Emily starts to say, but the blonde cuts her off.
"I may need your help with the bags." She states with a pointed look, and Emily nods as she catches on.
"Alright. We'll see you two lovebirds later." Emily winks at Beca, who blushes, before walking out of the room, the two of them animatedly discussing what sounds good for dinner. Beca chuckles awkwardly before turning back to Chloe, who's tugging at her bottom lip with her teeth as she stares back at the singer.
"So…"
"So." Chloe giggles again, and Beca can't help but grin at her.
"Here we are."
"Here we are indeed." With a small smile, she adds, "Can I be honest about something?"
"Of course." Beca says with furrowed eyebrows, her heart already dropping as she prepares herself for the worst.
"I didn't think you'd find out so quickly." She says, her grin widening, and Beca laughs with relief. "None of this went how I planned it to."
"I didn't think it was you." She responds. "By the way, what were the clues? I'm still confused."
"Day one, there wasn't one. Actually, I wasn't supposed to be there when Fat Amy gave you the first note; that's why I was hesitant to say yes to you asking me to go to your house early." Beca chuckles as that day- which she can't believe was only and already a week ago- plays through her head. "Day two, Emily had a yellow Barden University cup." She stares at Chloe in confusion, and the redhead laughs. "It's the same cup you auditioned for the Bellas with, and the same cup I used everyday after."
"Oh wow." She breathes out, and Chloe takes her other hand in hers.
"Yeah. Day three, while you were talking to Jesse, I put in a request for the radio to play 'Titanium,' then told the Uber driver to play 95.7."
"Day four was the Bella thing." Beca says, and Chloe nods.
"Day 5, the frosting and the sprinkles."
Beca's eyes widen as she thinks about the food. "Oh my gosh, it was under my nose the whole time, wasn't it?"
Chloe laughs. "Yeah, it really was." They fall silent, both wrapped up in their own thoughts, but still staring at each other. "Hey Becs?"
"What's up?"
"How long have you felt this way?"
Beca chuckles, looking down at their intertwined fingers as she says the words she never thought she'd say to her best friend. "Do you remember the Christmas I spent with you and your family in Portland?"
Chloe giggles in response. "Yeah, I remember. You threw my brother in a snowbank and wouldn't help him out."
"He deserved it!" Beca exclaims, and both women laugh. "But anyway, that was when I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you." She admits, sighing with relief as Chloe rubs her thumbs over her hands reassuringly.
"It took you three years?" She jokes, and Beca whacks her arm softly. "I'm kidding, babe."
"You better be." Beca rolls her eyes playfully. Her heart flips when she hears the term of endearment, and she's happier than she thought she'd be when Chloe makes no effort to take it back, or even acknowledge it. To Beca, that means she meant it, and that's all that matters to her. And yes, she knows the redhead calls her babe all the time, but she also knows that today's different than all those other days. "When did you know? Really know?"
Chloe sighs. "I have no clue how long I've actually loved you, but…" She trails off, scratching her nose as she thinks. "I realized it the day Chicago asked me to marry him, actually."
"Really?" Beca asks in shock, and Chloe nods.
"You were just… there for me, and the thought I wish I could just marry you ran through my head." She admits.
Beca being typical Beca, she says, "You stole that from Dickinson."
"Maybe, maybe not." She shrugs, then winces. "That was a bad idea."
"Do you want to lay back down? Do you need more painkillers?" Beca immediately asks, her face falling into one of worry.
"Actually, some more pain meds might be nice." Beca nods, then presses the button to page Stacie.
"Coming!" The doctor's voice floats through the speaker, and the tiny brunette sits back down.
Suddenly, they hear voices, and Emily and Aubrey walk back in with a pizza in their hands. "We got Hawaiian."
Beca opens her mouth to protest, but then she sees the way Chloe's face lights up, so she decides not to say anything. As Aubrey grabs napkins from one of the cabinets in the room and chats with Chloe, Emily pulls Beca over to the side of the room.
"Did you guys get your shit figured out yet?"
"There's still a lot to talk about, but pretty close to it, yeah." Beca can't stop the grin from completely taking over her face even if she wanted to.
Suddenly, Stacie walks in, and she narrows her eyes at her wife, who's handing Chloe a slice of pizza. "Who said my patient could have pizza?"
"One piece won't kill her." Aubrey fires back, and Stacie laughs as she presses a quick kiss to her cheek.
"You're lucky I love you."
"I love you too." She grins, then looks at the clock on the wall. "Shit, I have to run and get Bella; she's staying with Stacie's parents." She winces, then turns to Chloe. "I'll come by tomorrow after work, ok?"
"Alright." Aubrey then waves to the rest of the women before turning and leaving the room.
"So, what did you need?" Stacie asks professionally before laughing. "Or did Beca freak out about something?"
"Hey!" Beca exclaims, and the other three laugh.
"Actually, I was wondering if I could get some more pain medication?" Emily hands Beca a piece of pizza as Chloe and Stacie talk, and Beca immediately sets to work on picking off all the pineapple chunks.
"Yeah, sure." Stacie changes some of the bags connected to Chloe's IV. "This is probably going to put you to sleep, though." She then turns to Beca and Emily, who look back up at the doctor. "You two actually should head back home once she goes to sleep." With a yawn, she adds, "I'll be going home in a couple of hours myself."
"Alright." Beca nods, feeling the exhaustion in her own body as soon as sleep is mentioned. She sets her food down on the table next to her and looks back to Chloe, just to see she's already smiling at her. "I'll see you first thing tomorrow morning, ok?"
"What about work?"
Beca waves the question off with a smile. "Theo finished the album, so there's literally nothing for me to do."
Suddenly, Emily squeaks. "Why didn't you tell me this sooner?!"
Guiltily, she responds, "Sorry, I just found out, like, fifteen minutes before you and Aubrey broke into my office."
"Oh." With that, she stands up and gives Beca and Chloe quick hugs. "I'll see you two tomorrow, yeah?"
"Hey." Stacie says, giving Emily an expectant look as she rests her hands on her hips. "Where's my hug?"
Laughing (and only Beca catches the nervousness to it) lightly, Emily walks over and wraps her arms around Stacie, who hugs back immediately. As they're hugging, Chloe whispers to Beca, "When are you going to sign her?"
"I was thinking Christmas, actually."
"That's perfect."
"What are you two whispering about?" Emily asks suspiciously once she breaks away from the hug.
"Nothing." Both Chloe and Beca say at the same time, and Emily narrows her eyes playfully at the pair.
"Sure. Last time you said that, you guys were behind bushes…" Chloe laughs, and Beca blushes.
"Go home, Junk."
Emily rolls her eyes, grabbing the pizza box. "I'm married, remember? And I'm taking this with me."
"Fine then, Mrs. Applebaum." Beca drawls, and Emily laughs as she rolls her eyes.
"Bye guys."
"Bye Em." With one last wave, Emily walks out of the room, leaving Chloe, Stacie, and Beca.
"You should start feeling the medicine soon, Chlo. Let me know if you need anything though." She smiles, then too walks out of the room.
"Go get some rest." Chloe says softly to Beca.
"I will once you've fallen asleep."
"Just go." She laughs, and Beca grins in return. "I'll still be here tomorrow." Instead of responding with words, Beca places her lips against Chloe's gently, who instantly kisses back, her lips forming into a grin.
"I'll see you tomorrow then." With that, she stands up and walks to the door, turning to give Chloe one last smile before walking out of the building. Once she's outside, she reaches into her pocket to grab her phone and call an Uber, but then remembers that her phone is in Aubrey's car. Groaning, she hails a taxi, deciding she'll deal with it tomorrow.
