Note: I admit, I should have made this story a bit longer. Plus, I kinda lied when I said Star Fox wouldn't make physical appearances in this story. However, it's hard to write a Star Fox story without Star Fox or Star Wolf in it. That's kinda why this story is so quick. As such, this chapter will be a breather for the heroes (or anti-hero/anti-villain, in Maria's case), so that they can get ready for their next battle. Now, without further ado, let's move on to chapter nine.

Chapter 9: The Plan

When night fell on Fortuna, Sabre and Randorn had a stakeout for DiMaggio's ship. They saw DiMaggio talking to Hughes outside of the ship. However, the two Cerinian refugees could not understand what was being said.

"I wonder why Maria couldn't have joined us in the stakeout." Sabre whispered.

"Beats me," Randorn quietly said, "we can't hear a blasted thing that DiMaggio and Hughes are saying. Maria's got larger ears, yet she sent us out for this?"

The two wolves watched as DiMaggio and Hughes entered the ship for the night.

"We have nothing," Sabre sighed, "let's head back to Maria."

"I can only imagine what she would say to us." Randorn said.

Sabre and Randorn walked through the woods until they came across Maria, who was sitting near a campfire she had started. The gray rabbit looked more annoyed than happy to see them.

"Let me guess, you have no new information on DiMaggio?" Maria asked.

"We couldn't hear what DiMaggio and Hughes were saying." Sabre stated.

"Great." The bounty hunter said out of sarcasm, "Just wonderful."

"And where's Bill?" Randorn asked.

"He didn't go with you?!" The gray rabbit angrily asked, "You left him behind so that he could get captured?!"

"We didn't even know that he left the campsite!" Sabre said.

All of a sudden, the three could hear someone running through the woods while panting. Out from the trees came Bill, who was carrying what looked like a map.

"There you are!" Randorn said.

"Where were you?" Sabre asked.

"I got intel on DiMaggio's plans!" Bill said as he handed the map to Randorn.

"What is he planning?" Sabre asked.

"DiMaggio stole a virus that Corneria had kept out of public reach and he's going to sprinkle it over the citizens next week!" Bill stated, "He's also planning to kill General Pepper and every other leader of a planet in the galaxy! If we don't stop him, the whole universe could be at stake!"

"How do we enter DiMaggio's ship without causing an alarm?" Randorn asked.

Bill took the map out of Randorn's hands and unfolded it, placing it on the ground. The map was an outline of DiMaggio's ship, detailing which room was which.

"There's a storage room in the back of the ship, but it's unguarded." Bill explained as he looked at the map, occasionally pointing to it, "If we can pry the door open and enter it, DiMaggio won't know that we've entered the ship."

"You guys have fun." Maria got up from the ground.

"What are you saying?" Sabre asked.

"Aren't you coming with us?" Randorn asked.

"I'm not loyal to you." Maria answered, "I'm not loyal to anyone anymore."

"What about DiMaggio?" Bill asked.

"I'll deal with him myself," the bounty hunter said, "you three should go get that stupid virus before Corneria gets infected."

"We will." Sabre said.

"And we can get it faster than you can kill DiMaggio!" Bill challenged.

"I doubt it." Maria scoffed as she walked into the woods, departing from the group.

When she was gone, Sabre, Randorn, and Bill looked at each other.

"Looks like it's just up to us to save the day." Bill said.

"And we'll make sure that DiMaggio doesn't succeed in his plans." Sabre stated.

"For Corneria and the rest of the planets in the Lylat system, we will stop that crazy cat or die trying!" Randorn said.

"But, for now, let's get some sleep." Sabre yawned as he lie down.

"Agreed." Randorn followed suit.

"Yeah, I'm tired." Bill was already asleep.

The three then slept by the campfire, not letting anything disturb them through the night. Their plans for tomorrow were set, and DiMaggio wasn't going to expect them.

Note: I know, this chapter was a little short. However, there is going to be some action scenes in the following chapters, I promise. What did you guys think about this chapter? Let me know when you leave a review or give a constructive criticism. Until next time, peace!
