Hello! As you can probably tell by my insufferable updating schedule, I tend to procrastinate. Also, I know I said I wouldn't be going any farther into cannon, but the Paranormal Liberation War seemed like a ton of fun, so I'm gonna definitely add that. Not in this chapter, but maybe in some future one.
Cure Part One
A good handful of months had passed since Aiko's diagnosis. The school year was coming to a close and Aiko was grateful that she wouldn't have to focus solely on avoiding the other students.
Without realizing it, she had spent a lot more time around Shigaraki as well. Since the past few incidents, Shigaraki had been one of the big players in protecting her and she began to admire him for that. He would get irritated when he noticed that she was following him, but he never forced her to leave. Aiko would read her book on the couch next to him while he planned and occasionally he'd correct some pronunciation errors. Aiko had entirely forgotten that she hadn't copied Shigaraki's quirk, and so did he.
They would soon learn what a mistake that was.
Aiko tapped her foot under her desk impatiently.
When will it end?
She glanced up at the clock for the third time and it had barely moved a few minutes.
Ugh.
She face-planted on the desk. Her teacher droned on endlessly. Eri was sitting in front of her, paying close attention, while also trying not to fall asleep.
Aiko tapped her foot faster.
Ouch!
A sharp pain shot up her leg. She reached a hand down to rub her foot. When she set it back on the ground, she only felt the cold, solid classroom floor.
Where's my-?
She jumped in shock, her shoes were gone and the white tiles had turned a deathly grey.
"Eep!" She lifted her feet off the ground, while placing her hands on her desk. The side of the wood counter crumbled quickly. She pulled her hands away before the entire desk decayed.
"Ms. Aoki, what are you-?" The teacher's eyes widened in shock. "What have you done?"
"I-I didn't mean to! It just happened!" Aiko explained.
Her classmates all turned to stare and Eri, who was the only other person besides the villains that knew about Aiko's quirk, got out of her seat.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Byokishi! Sometimes Aiko's quirk gets out of control! May I take her to the nurse's office?" Eri raised her hand.
"Of course, Eri." Mrs. Byokishi nodded, casting a wary glance towards Aiko.
Eri ushered her friend to the door.
The boy sitting nearest to the door leaned over to his friend and whispered, "Doesn't she have a blue-flame power?"
Eri pushed Aiko out the door faster.
"Do you really wanna go to the nurse's office?" Eri asked.
Aiko didn't answer, instead she clutched her hands to her chest and groaned in pain.
"Something's wrong, isn't it?" Eri frowned in concern.
Aiko tried to shake her head, but she only stumbled forward. The decay had ceased at her feet, but she wasn't sure about her hands. They cramped and she gripped them harder.
"I'm taking you-you to the nurse's, Aiko. You're clearly sick. Is it that disorder that you told me about a few months ago?" Eri's voice shook, but she held strong.
Aiko bit her lip, then nodded.
"D-did you get another quirk?" Eri asked. "Who?"
"My-my other Oniisan, I think." Aiko managed to say.
"You have more siblings?" This was news to her.
Dang, Aiko regretted letting that slip.
"Let's go," Eri helped her friend down the hall. Once they made it to the nurse's, Aiko's hands had started to calm, but the decay still hadn't stopped. In fact, she had almost accidentally decayed her inform on the way there, her sleeves crumbling at the tips slightly.
They walked in and their school nurse sat beside another, small old woman. The school nurse turned to them.
"Hello, dearies, what can I do for you?"
Eri and Aiko exchanged glances. Aiko gave her a look that said it was alright to tell the kind nurse.
"Aiko's quirk went a little out of control today, Miss." Eri explained.
"Oh, hello Eri." The small, old woman that the nurse had been talking took peeked over. "It's nice seeing you."
Eri recognized the small woman. "Mrs. Recovery Girl?"
Their school nurse smiled. "Yes, my aunt. I didn't know you two were acquitted. Now let's take a look at your friend."
The nurses took Aiko's temperature and let her lie down until her hands relaxed, then they sent her back with Eri.
"As long as the pain's numbed, and it's not going out of control anymore, then you're free to go." The school nurse waved them off.
The girls hadn't mentioned exactly what the new quirk had done, since Aiko had refused to say, so when they left, Eri gave her friend a frown, which was about the angriest she'd ever gotten.
"Why won't you tell anyone about this problem, Aiko?" Eri asked softly.
"I-well," Aiko avoided her friend's eyes. "I'm getting help already, I don't want to bother anyone else about it."
"But when are you gonna get help?" Eri said impatiently. "This has been going on for months, hasn't it? And this new quirk almost got out of hand! Speaking of, you probably should touch anything for a while."
"Yeah, I know,"Aiko tried to laugh it off, but Eri's frown only deepened. "I promise I'll get my disorder fixed real soon! The Doctor said he's on the verge of developing something that'll help!"
Eri sighed. "Fine. I trust you Aiko." The sweet horned-girl placed her small hands on her friends shoulders. "Let's just...get back to class."
The two walked back in silence.
Aiko didn't feel up for the park that day, since she had been overcome with nausea after the incident.
She walked home alone, making her way through the busy afternoon streets.
Aiko didn't even bother taking a very conspicuous route, since it wasn't like anything bad would happen this one time.
She slumped over and trotted down the sidewalk, the nausea starting to get to her so much that she had to take a seat on a nearby bench.
"Oof," She let out a pained sigh. She had begun to keep one finger off of everything she touched, as she'd seen Shigaraki do so many times in the past. "Why am I so tired, though?"
Her surroundings spun and she attempted to keep herself from tumbling off the bench.
Thanks to Himiko's training, she had become much better at keeping an eye on her surroundings, even when she was distracted, but Aiko was so dizzy that she hadn't even noticed a person take a seat beside her.
Once Aiko's head stopped spinning, she held it for a moment, as of it might screw off. That's when her peripheral caught sight of the man beside her. His arms her like skinny twigs and his face was thin and boney, so boney, in fact, that she was sure there was a skeleton sitting next to her.
"Aaah!" She yelled, falling right off the bench. "Eep! A monster!"
"Oh my, I didn't mean to scare you," The man chuckled and Aiko's vision finally settled, giving her a chance to realize that it was just a very skinny man.
"Ack! No, I'm sorry!" Aiko scrambled to her feet. "That was very rude of me!" She bowed politely.
"No, no it alright! I get that a lot." The blond man said. "You were sitting here alone, so I thought I'd see if you were alright?"
"Oh! That's very nice of you!" Aiko suddenly felt very guilty. "I'm fine, thank you. Just a little dizzy is all."
"Well, that's good to here." The man smiled.
The blond man didn't find it incredibly off-putting that the girl still hadn't recognized him. Ever since he retired, he would get recognized in his alternate form all the time, especially by the youngest of children, but it still wasn't unusual for someone to just not notice.
"All Might!" A familiar voice called from down the street. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting. Oh? Aiko?"
Izuku appeared before the two.
"Deku?" Aiko was surprised to see her friend.
"Hey, Aiko! How're you? How come you're not at the park?" Izuku asked.
"I wasn't feeling well, so I thought I'd head home early." Aiko said.
"Oh? You're Aiko? Young Eri has told me all about you," The blond man smiled.
"You know Eri?" Aiko hopped. "And she talks about me?"
"All the time," The man chuckled.
"Oh, right!" Izuku said. "I forgot! When we met at the mall, you had said you didn't know who All Might was!"
"Who's that?" Aiko had completely forgotten about the muscular blond man she had seen on the billboard that day.
The blond man smiled sheepishly. "Well that's me, Young Aiko. I'm All Might."
Aiko showed no recognition. "You don't look like the muscley guy."
"Well, that's because I'm retired." All Might raised an eyebrow. It definitely wasn't often that he ran into someone who had now idea who All Might was, especially someone of Aiko's age. The only other girl he knew without any idea who he was, was Eri. And she had been sheltered her entire life.
"Oh." Aiko pretended to recognize him, though the other two saw right through it.
"And why're you-"
A blaring siren broke the peaceful buzz of the streets. Before they could react, the brick building behind them crumbled and the wall began to fall. All the citizens in the way screamed and fled. Izuku jumped into action taking hold of Aiko and All Might and yanking them away. Aiko watched the wall fall in slow motion, her eyes catching sight of something.
A tiny black cat stood frozen beneath the tumbling wall.
"No! Watch out!" Aiko clawed out of Izuku's grip and sprinted towards the cat.
"Aiko! Stop!" Izuku yelled.
The cat spotted Aiko and hopped away, leaving Aiko seconds away from being flattened.
The brick wall was inches from her face and Izuku wasn't fast enough. She would be..would be...
Aiko threw her hands up and they touched the wall. In seconds, it crumbled to dust, spreading out in a dark cloud and floating to the ground.
Izuku and the other civilians stared in terrified awe.
"I-uhhh..." Aiko stood there awkwardly, panic coursing through her veins. "I-I should go."
And with that, ignoring Izuku's calls, she sprinted, running as fast as her legs could carry her.
She ran down alleys and streets, dodging people and cars. Aiko didn't even process where she was going, her mind completely set on getting as far away as possible.
Finally, she had to stop to take a breath in a dark back alley. The world spun even more and she had to stop to hurl behind a trash can.
"This is so embarrassing," She mumbled.
"Mew!" A tiny voice made Aiko jump.
A small black cat hopped towards her.
"A-Are you the kitty from earlier?" Aiko's eyes rested on the cat's soft green ones.
The cat rubbed against the small girl and she pet it's back gently.
"It's nice to see you again, though you almost got me killed." Aiko, slightly delirious from the nausea started talking to it. "I mean, what was I supposed to do? You probably would've gotten squashed."
"Meow," The kitty stretched and rubbed it's head along Aiko's thigh.
"I better get home," Aiko peeked out the alley. "I'm in the lower district, I think, so I should know the way."
She stepped out and made her way out onto the streets, leaving the cat behind. It took her a good twenty minutes to reach the teleportation point.
"Meow!" The small black cat startled her.
"Ack! Oh," Aiko cocked her head. "You followed me? All the way here? Do you have a place to go?"
Suddenly, Aiko had the greatest idea in all of existence.
"You should come home with me!" She said, lifting the cat off the ground and cradling it in her arms. She stepped out into the clearing for the Doctor to transport her back.
The grey goop covered her and the cat and she was soon back in the penthouse.
No one was in the glass meeting room at the moment, so Aiko quickly skipped to her bedroom.
"This is my room," Aiko set the kitty down on her bed. As soon as she lifted her hands off of the cat, she pulled them away.
"I almost forgot about Shigaraki's quirk!" She glanced down at her hands, surprised that they hadn't disintegrated the cat.
Maybe they aren't "on" at all times? She made a mental note not to get careless, just in case the quirk reactivated.
The cat wandered around the room, sniffing the furniture.
"Hey, Aiko?" Spinner's raspy voice called from behind the door.
"YeeEES?" Aiko's voice shifted from calm to nervous. She suddenly realized that she was in the same predicament as she had been in when Teruo was around. Except that she was hiding a tiny cat rather than a 200-ton mutant human.
"Toga wanted me to check if you were back yet," Spinner began to turn the knob in the door.
"No! Wait! I'm-um-" Aiko searched her head for an excuse. "Changing! I'll be right out!"
Spinner listened to Aiko's faux shuffling before the small girl stuck her head out.
"Hello, Mr. Iguchi!" Aiko smiled, trying to hide the furious sweating.
"Mew!" The black cat poked it's head out from between the small girl's legs.
"Is that-?" Spinner didn't get a chance to finish before Aiko pushed the cat back inside, already denying the obvious. "-a cat?"
"Nope!" Aiko's grin got wider.
"C-can I pet it?" Spinner asked sheepishly and Aiko paused.
"You won't tell Shigaraki, will you?" Aiko was mistrustful.
This wouldn't have been the fist time Spinner ratted her out for something. One time, she had smashed an art frame on one of the lower floors and when Re-Destro had asked, Spinner told him outright. Granted, Aiko had originally tried to blame it on the lizard-man in the first place, but it was tattling nonetheless.
Spinner nodded and Aiko opened the door for him.
The lizard villain bent down, and with a surprising amount of gentleness, rubbed the cat's back.
"What're you gonna name it?" Spinner asked, eyes sparkling.
"I dunno if I'll even be able to keep it," Aiko sighed disappointedly.
"What about Tsukiko? Also it's a he," Spinner corrected.
"Tsukiko...I love it!" Aiko perked up and sat beside the kitty. "Hello, Mr. Tsukiko!"
"Oh! I almost forgot," Spinner glanced at Aiko. "Shigaraki said he need you up in the main room."
Aiko nodded and hopped up. "Watch Tsukiko for now!" She up and ran out the door.
She made her way up the stairs and into the large glass room, where the Doctor and Shigaraki were waiting.
"What took you so long?" Shigaraki hissed.
"I was busy." Aiko said with all the confidence of a wilting sunflower.
"I've got good new, young Aiko!" The Doctor seemed more prideful than usual. "I believe I've figured out a way to cure your disorder, though it'll be completely up to you,"
"Really?" Aiko said happily. "What can you do?"
"Well, here in my lab, I've collected a extensive amount of quirks, and with some of my equipment, I think the easiest thing to do would be to artificially extract your Affinity and replace it with a different, less destructive one." The Doctor explained bluntly. "Lest you'd prefer your quirk to destroy you from the inside, this seems like the most reliable option."
"Wha-?" Aiko froze. Get rid of her quirk? B-but she liked her quirk! She didn't want to give it up! Although, being destroyed from the inside seemed much worse. "Uh-um-would I get to pick my new quirk?"
"Hrmm, well I suppose it would have been a good chance to experiment on the effects of certain quirks on certain blood types, but I don't see anything much wrong with that." The Doctor shrugged, his large round goggles glinting curiously. "To urea will also be joining you, as he has something important to take care of,"
"What do you mean?" Aiko asked.
"He'll also be receiving, how to say, a new quirk as well, though he'll be in containment for a least three months." The Doctor explained.
"Three months? But I need you to teach me how to use Decay!" The words came out faster than Aiko could stop them.
"Huh?" Shigaraki turned on her. "What do you mean by that? We don't have any relationship!"
"Um-well-I accidentally disintegrated my desk today in school, so," Aiko said.
"So you've melted even the coldest of hearts, I see," The Doctor chuckled.
"She didn't-! I'm not-! Shut up!" Shigaraki stormed out.
"Not that it was really necessary," The Doctor gave Aiko a humored smile. "But you've really added to the entertainment since you arrived."
Within minutes, Shigaraki came storming back in, this time carrying a small black cat by the scruff.
"What the hell is this thing?!" He shouted, tossing Tsukiko at Aiko.
"Tsukiko!" Aiko caught the kitten in her arms.
Spinner came running in after, out of breath. "Sorry!...The cat...escaped. Very...fast."
"You named it?" Shigaraki growled, demanding an explanation.
"It's a he." Aiko corrected, then shrunk back at the white-haired villain's furious stare. "I saved him when he was about to get squashed and he doesn't have a home, so I brought him here. Can I keep him?"
"Absolutely not." Shigaraki hissed.
"But why? You guys took me in when I didn't have a home, so why can't we take in Tsukiko?" Aiko whined.
"Because it wasn't my choice to let you stay, but it will be mine for the cat. Get rid of it." Shigaraki pointed a dry finger at the cat.
"But-"
"Get. Rid. Of. It."
Before Shigaraki could make a point by slamming the door behind him, Himiko bounded in beside Twice.
"Oh my goodness! Is that a kitty?!" Himiko's eyes glittered. "Can we have him?"
"Wha-? No! I just said-!" Shigaraki tried to argue.
"How could you have no heart, Shiggy?" Twice petted the small kitten's head, then recoiled in disgust. "Eww! Black cats are bad luck!"
The two villains gave Shigaraki the most pleading looks. Spinner even joined in.
"My choice is final!" Shigaraki swung his five-fingered hand at the three of them, but then Aiko stepped up, face clouded in shadow. "Huh?"
Aiko's face shot up and Shigaraki had to squint at the rays of sunshine emitting from her puppy-dog eyes.
"No! I can't-!" He groaned. "FINE! Fine. Do whatever you want. I don't care."
And with that, the villain stormed out, his anger boiling over, steam seeping out of his ears.
"YAY!" The four "siblings" exclaimed.
"What's it's name?" Himiko bent down to look the cat in his sparkling green eyes.
"Tsukiko! Spinner came up with it!" Aiko handed the cat over to the blond haired teen.
"That's an adorable name! Great choice!" Himiko grinned and the cat grimaced, clawing it's way out of Himiko's arms and back into Aiko's.
"I guess he just doesn't like you." Twice poked.
"Nonsense!" Himiko grabbed the cat back and hugged him. "I'm practically part cat! I've never met one that didn't like me!"
Tsukiko wasted no time. He hissed viciously and scratched at Himiko face. She screamed and dropped the small kitten and it made it's way to Aiko's feet.
"Whatever." Himiko didn't let it show, but she was clearly heartbroken.
Sorry that I have to cut this into two parts! Also, I know nothing much happened this chapter, but it's all a set up for the next chapter! I promise. Also, Also, Tsukiko isn't really a big part, but come on, it's a kitty. Also, Also, Also, I'm sorry if there's an abundance of spelling errors in this chapter. I'm a chronic insomniac and I once again wrote this at midnight, so I was very tired and very excited to post, haha.
