The Breakdown

Chapter 8-Eric Miller

Miller had heard about Admiral Slattery's suicide attempt. He couldn't imagine what the man had gone through, but he did know, that without Mike's recommendation letter, Miller wouldn't have gotten any benefits after his legs were amputated. Tom had been too wrapped up in his own psychological battle, and Wolfe had mentioned it to Mike while they were working out. Within weeks, the benefits were through.

He also loaned Miller money to buy the engagement ring for Courtney, telling Miller he only expected a wedding invitation and that he would give any money that Miller gave him for the ring as a wedding present. Because of that, he was able to get Courtney a really nice ring, and was able to pay for their venue. No one knew, not even Courtney.

Miller didn't have any special memories of Mike, other then Mike teaching him new things, and he had no idea why Mike would have loaned/gave him the money for the ring, so he didn't have anything special to write in a note. He got an invitation from Courtney and slipped a piece of paper down in the envelope.

"Here's an invitation. You have to stick around long enough to go to the wedding. It wouldn't be right if you weren't there.—Miller"

It wasn't elaborate, but he knew he didn't have to be with Mike. He wasn't sure why Mike had become so invested in him, but he was glad. Now he would have to return the favor. They all would.

Super short chapter, but fitting of Miller's character.
