The next day, Sonic and Tails are back in the air again.

"Whoa." Sonic gasped, "Look at that gorge."

"Goodness." Tails agreed, "I don't know where that came from, but that looks really dry."

"Should there be a river nearby?"

"Perhaps." Tails then got inspiration, "Let's land the plane and look for one."

"Got it."

Tails landed the plane nearby and they started walking along the edge of the gorge, just as the rocks below started to shake.

Flickies flock into the air from the gorge's rim; wildebeests begin to pour over the edge and down into the valley floor. They rapidly rush down the gorge.

"Should we run for our lives?" Asked Sonic.

"Oh yes, lets."

They both scream and take off running in front of the huge herd of wildebeests. The two run as quick as they could to get away from them.

"Hang on, Tails!" Cried Sonic.

"This is it!" Tails sighed, "Good-bye, cruel world!"

The wildebeest screeches to a halt at the edge of the cliff, and Sonic and Tails fall off, screaming After a few midair tumbles, Tails… begins to fly with his twin tails and held onto Sonic as they carried on.

"Whoa!" Gasped Tails, "I knew I could tail spin, but I never knew I could fly!"

"That's great, little bud." Sonic congratulated, "As long as we don't fall in the water, we'll be fine."

Just then, the fox and hedgehog hear something.

"Uh, Sonic… you wouldn't happen to like slides, do you?"

"Of course I do." He replied, "You saw how many times I raced down the slide at the big playground."

"Because… we're about to approach a waterfall!"

And indeed it was an absurdly high waterfall. Tails unfortunately lost his energy and he and Sonic both scream as they hurtle over the edge.

Right in the middle of the fall, Sonic pauses the movie; back to the silhouettes.

"You mind if I pause it for a second?" He asked his fox friend.

"Sure," He smiled, "go ahead."

"Be right back!"

Tails cracks his neck one way and then the other, grunting. As Sonic clatters off-screen, Tails scratches in his ear, sniffs, hums "It's a Small World After All", and casually scratches his head. Just as the sound of a popcorn popper comes to a stop, Tails combs his hair with the same comb his mother used when he was a child. When he sees Sonic coming back, he quickly looks to hide the comb, but seeing no hiding spots, he ducks it back on his chair and sat on it, just as Sonic comes back with a bag of popcorn.

"Okay, I got the jumbo so we could share." He pauses for a moment, as he realizes Tails is just sitting there stock-still. "...Were you just combing your hair with your mother's comb?"

"Nooo," He said indignantly, "I was scratching my head!"

He grabs some popcorn and chows down, then clicks the remote.

The movie resumes, with Tails and Sonic plummeting down the waterfall and screaming.

"AHHHHHH!"

Nighttime at the water's edge. Sonic emerges from the water, gasping and wheezing; Tails is clutching Sonic's arm and being dragged to safety, but otherwise limp. Sonic collapses and coughs up some water. Tails comes to and groans. Sonic turns to face him; Tails is lying on the beach clutching a lily in a classic death pose.

"Tails," Cried Sonic, "you okay?"

"Uhh. Mostly." He said quietly, "I give up!"

"But... but we can't give up!" Sonic looked indignity, "We've come so far…"

"Forget it, Sonic. I've been dragging you down long enough." Sighed the fox, "I'm goin' home, to the fox colony... and I suggest you do the same."

"Tails, I'm not letting those bullies harm you again!"

"My mum is there for me."

"Y-your mother?"

"Yeah." He said, then realised something, "You didn't say anything about your mother, or father for that matter… do you even have either?"

Sonic shakes his head. "They vanished when I was about the age you were when I found you."

"My dad vanished too." Tails admitted, then another realisation dawned on him. "That's why you often went to Shadow's house, isn't it?"

"Yeah."

Sonic turns to face Tails, with huge dewy eyes.

"Oh, well…" Tails said, "you do have a mother: Aleena. She may not be who you're born to, but in a sense, you're her adoptive son and in a way, Shadow's brother."

"He's not the only brother I have now."

Tails gasped, "You mean…"

"Yeah, Tails... you'll always be my little brother."

The two gaze at each other, sniffling. Tails reflection appears in Sonic's eyes. Suddenly the movie pauses and in the theatre seats Tails is hunched over and sobbing.

"Tails?" Sonic asked, shocked, "Are you crying?"

"I'm fine!" He sobbed, "I—I just have something in my eye."

"Here, blow." Sonic handed him a hanky.

"Oh." Tails blew his nose and put the hanky in his glove. "Okay." He said, getting a hold of himself, "I'm better."

Tails resumes the movie, and it shows him and Sonic getting ready for a campout on the beach.
