CHAPTER 8
The four adults were enjoying the bento Hizashi had prepared when Shouta's phone rang. He answered, face going white as he listened to the voice on the other end. He was up and headed for the door, lunch forgotten before the principal had finished speaking. Hizashi hurried after him, followed closely by Yagi and Torino.
"Shouta, what's happened?" Hizashi huffed as he caught up to his husband.
Shouta glanced at him, eyes terrified as his finger repeatedly jabbed the elevator button. "Kiku's quirk went haywire somehow, she's currently clinging to that statue of Crimson Riot in front of the school. They said she's just floating there. No one can figure out how to get her down. They are afraid the statue is going to topple." His eyes shot over to Toshinori. "I blame you for this."
Toshinori winced. Floating? That sounded like Nana's quirk. What…The…Hell? "I have a faster way to get there." He buffed up into his All Might form, turned and headed back into the apartment, barely remembering to open the patio door before going through it. The others hurried after him.
"Grab hold," he barely waited for them to comply before leaping off the balcony. Shouta glanced over at Hizashi who was sheet-white with terror. He laughed. For once they'd found something he loved which absolutely terrified his husband. It would be his turn to do the comforting tonight. Gran Torino flew beside them, keeping pace with All Might.
It took about 3 minutes to reach the school. All Might landed in a nearby alley and shrank down to his normal form after checking to make sure no bystanders were around. Shouta had his arm around his husband, smoothing down the blonde hair that stuck out in all directions, Hizashi's knees trembling as he clutched at Shouta. When they stepped out of the alley, the first thing that caught their attention was the terrified screaming of a child. Shouta glanced up. Kiku floated forty-five feet in the air, clearly terrified, clinging to a statue which was rocking precariously on its base. He rushed forward, capture scarf prepared to grab the child and teacher should the statue actually fall. Hizashi was still leaning against the brick wall, slowly recovering. Torino had jetted up to where the girl was, attempting to calm her with his words. Toshinori must have slipped back into the alley as All Might suddenly charged in from a side street rushing to brace the tipping statue.
The teachers and all of the students were crowded on the front steps of the porch watching the scene with various emotions. All except one small boy who zeroed in on his family. "Papa-Zashi!" He wailed, pulling out of the teacher's grip and tackling Hizashi around the knees. Knocked from his terror induced shock, Hizashi knelt down and hugged the trembling boy. "A-are they gonna save Ki-chan?" He fretted.
"Shhh, yes. She will be okay. While they are helping her, why don't you tell me what happened, little listener?" Hizashi led Hitoshi over to a quiet corner as the boy began to speak.
"Kiku! Kiku! Stop that wailing!" Gran Torino commanded, trying to break through the child's hysteria. He was trying to get close enough to calm the child down, but she was flailing around, Nana's quirk fully active and the statue tilting wildly. Either the yellow of his cape, or his shouting must have caught her attention as her wails cut off mid scream.
"Grampa Sora? Grampa Sora, help me please? I didn't mean to. I didn't mean to break it. I don't want to be a bad girl!" He could see she was starting to spiral again and darted in to wrap her in a hug before she could start flailing again.
"Easy little zygote, Grampa Sora's got you." He stroked her wild green curls in an attempt to calm her. "Shouta and Hizashi are here. If you calm down, maybe we can figure out how to get you down." He looked over at the teacher who was still hovering ineffectively nearby. "Fly down and tell the man with the black hair to be ready to catch us." When she started to open her mouth to argue, he cut her off. "He's a Pro Hero, just do it!"
She nodded and flew down, landing beside Aizawa. A moment later, he felt them begin to plummet, only to suddenly be wrapped in Eraser's capture scarf. They had barely made it to the ground when the heroes were swarmed with teachers and students all babbling loudly. The chaos went on for several minutes before a tall stocky man with bull horns stepped forward shaping his mouth into a bullhorn. "SILENCE!"
The sudden stillness in the courtyard was shocking. Aizawa took control of the situation. "Any student who lines up neatly beside the gate can get a signed picture with All Might, but only if you line up quietly without fighting." He shot a glance at All Might who just nodded. The students scrambled for the wall, the older children surprisingly teaming up to ensure the younger children were first in line. Aizawa walked over to the principal who had changed his mouth back to normal. "Please assign a couple of teachers to supervise the students and then show us somewhere we can talk."
Kiba Airen nodded and turned to give instructions to the teachers hovering behind them. Within minutes the three Heroes, two children and several teachers were gathered in the Principal's office.
"We were under the impression young Midoriya's quirk was strength related. Would anyone care to explain what that was?" Principal Airen asked?
The three heroes exchanged looks. Finally, Gran Torino spoke up, "we aren't fully certain ourselves. It's possible she inherited a second aspect to her quirk from her mother's side. We will have to investigate further and we promise to update you when we have more information. In the meantime, I think it wise to take the children home for the day. Please let me know if you need any damages covered." He handed the principal his card.
The adults spent the next hour discussing what had happened and what they could do to prevent a recurrence. Torino and Shouta took turns hugging Kiku who was still trembling and leaking tears.
"E-everyone's gonna hate me," she stammered.
A small hand slipped into her larger one. "They won't hate you. Yaomomo-chan wasn't scared of you, she was worried. I bet the other kids will think your quirk is cool. Not like mine," Shinso muttered, trying to comfort his sister.
Kumonori-sensei was the first to respond. "The kids won't hate either of you. I know just the thing we can do to help people understand both of your quirks better. We will talk about it in class tomorrow." She hugged the little purplette. He was such a sweet kid. He reminded her of her son Ren who was waiting for her at home with his father.
"Papa-Shou, my arm hurts," Kiku whined, clearly at the end of what she could handle. Aizawa examined her arm which thankfully wasn't broken.
"Her arm is dislocated," Shouta explained after examining said appendage. "Hold still a moment, Kiku." He pulled at her arm. There was a popping sound as her arm returned to its socket. Binding it up with his capture scarf, he looked at Hizashi and Sorahiko. "We should get her home. Can you call Recovery Girl?"
Hizashi nodded. "I'll call her, see if she can make a house call. I think the children will be more comfortable at home. Besides, we still have that guest, remember?" He reminded the dark-haired man, referring to Yagi who was still outside signing autographs as All Might. They said farewells to the principal and the teacher and made their way out the front door.
Aizawa swore. Three news vans had pulled up to the school and were filming the signing session. All Might glanced over at them and nodded. They slipped into a side street before flagging down a cab. Torino waved at them, promising to meet them back at their place once 'young Yagi' was done with his 'appointment.'

A short while later at the Aizawa-Yamada Residence…
"There, there dearie, all better now?" Recovery girl crooned as she gave Kiku a handful of gummies. She handed Hitoshi some too, laughing as he stuffed the entire handful in his mouth at once. Kiku nodded enthusiastically and hugged the spry old woman.
"Uff. Easy little one, not quite so hard," she croaked out. The arms around her loosened enough for her to draw in a full breath. Hizashi chuckled. The little mite was trying so hard. He loved her enthusiasm and hoped her struggles for control didn't break that shining spirit.
"Papa Zashi, what does Shit mean?" The greenette smiled up at him. Hizashi glared at his husband who was just returning from the kitchen with Hitoshi, both carrying a plate of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
"It means your Papa Shou needs his mouth washed out with soap." Shuzenji glared at her former student. Shouta cringed, remembering his last encounter with her cane.
"Papa Shou, what does Shit mean?"
Shouta's eyebrows rose. "Where did you hear that word?"
"You said it when we came out of the school when you saw the 'porters." Shinso replied before his sister could.
"Fuck."
"Shouta, Language!" Hizashi and Recovery girl shouted at the same time. Aizawa had the grace to look embarrassed.
"What's Fuck," Shinso asked.
"A word that little zygotes like you and Kiku should not be using," Gran Torino stated as he walked into the room followed by Toshinori.
"He looks like you, Ki-chan," Shinso whispered, pointing at the tall blonde man who had followed Torino into the apartment.
Four heads whipped around to stare at Hitoshi who was looking back and forth between his sister and Toshinori. Shouta knelt down next to him, wrapping his arms around the little boy. The child was scarily perceptive, something they would have to watch out for in coming years. Hizashi smiled at them and walked over to Kiku.
"Kiku, I'd like you to meet Yagi Toshinori. Yagi, your daughter Midoriya Kiku."
"P-Papa Zashi?" Kiku's voice trembled. She knew it, they were sending her away. They didn't want her anymore. She burst into loud tears and ran from the room. A thud and the crash of furniture breaking had Hizashi and Shouta wincing. Exchanging glances, Shouta hugged Hitoshi again before rushing off to find his foster daughter.
"Idiot." Torino spat at Hizashi before following Shouta to Kiku's room. Hizashi stared at his feet, unsure what he had done to upset his new daughter. A tug at his pant leg had him looking down at his new son.
"Papa Zashi, is that man really Kiku's daddy? Is she gonna go away and live with him?"
Hizashi paled. If Hitoshi was asking that question, Kiku was probably wondering the same thing. No wonder she freaked out. Especially after the incident at the school.
Yagi was standing there, shocked about the child's reaction to him. Did she hate him for not being there for them? Was he too late? Would it be best to leave and try again another day?
An awkward silence grew between the adults and the little purplette looked back and forth between them worriedly. "I don' wan' Ki-chan to leave," he whimpered.
Hizashi glanced at Yagi and gestured to the sofa. The tall man carefully sat down on the bright yellow futon, careful not to dislodge the black cat who had claimed the center space.
Hizashi scooped Hitoshi up, stroking his spiky purple hair as he sat them in the matching armchair. "I don't know what's going to happen yet, we are going to talk about that, but even if it does, you would still be able to visit her from time to time."
Toshinori slid down onto his knees on the floor beside the armchair and addressed the small boy. "Have no fear little one, I am just here to visit your family and get to know you and your sister. I can't take her to live with me right now no matter how much I should wish it. My job is just too dangerous for a child."
"Really? I don't have to leave?" Kiku's lilting voice sounded from the doorway.
'My God,' Toshinori thought, 'she has her mother's voice.' His head turned to stare at the tall child who shared his eyes and mouth. Everything else about her except for her build was pure Inko. She was the perfect blend of them both. His eyes watered and his heart squeezed with an emotion stronger than anything he'd felt for anyone in the past, even Inko and Nana. This was his child. His little miracle.
"She's beautiful." They were the first words to come tumbling out of his mouth. Blue eyes shimmering with unshed tears, he addressed Kiku, "You look just like your mother. I loved her very much."
Kiku clung to Shouta's hand, careful not to squeeze too tightly, tears trickling down her cheeks. Torino stood behind her, one hand on her shoulder for support. This was her father…her real father. She moved carefully into the room, gently sitting herself on the mahogany piano bench, eyes roaming over the tall man's face. When she finished positioning herself, she looked over at Shouta who nodded in approval. Her face brightened with a wide smile. Toshinori stared. She had his smile. His All Might smile. The smile that could lift the hearts of everyone around them.
Shouta took a seat on the sofa, sinking into the pillows as he scooped the cat into his lap, a determined look on his face. He wasn't giving up his precious Kiku without a fight. Before he could speak, the subject of their thoughts spoke up.
"Why did you never come for me?" Kiku asked, a tremble in her voice. "Why did I have to go to the orphanage after mama died?"
"I didn't know about you until Gran Torino came to find me last week. Your mother and I dated for a few months before I left to work in America." Yagi replied softly. He still hadn't moved from his position on the floor beside the chair. "I found out after I came back that your mother had asked a former co-worker of mine to get in touch with me shortly before you were born, but I never got the message." He took a deep breath. "Your mother and I broke up just before I left for America. She was mad at me for reasons I can't go into right now. Had I known you existed I would have dropped everything for you."
"Do I have to live with you now?" He could hear the fear in the girl's voice and realized it wasn't fear of him. It was fear of leaving an established home. Of leaving family she loved, even if they weren't hers biologically. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Eraser stiffen.
"I would love that beyond anything," he started, holding up a hand as Shouta moved to stand, "but, it isn't feasible. My job is highly dangerous; it is not safe for you to live with me at this time. You would be safer here with Yamada and Aizawa." He met her cerulean eyes with his, "Though if you will have me, I would love to visit while I am in Japan. I want to get to know my daughter."
Shouta relaxed back into the sofa, long fingers stroking the purring cat. Yuki took that moment to step down from the top of the piano, across the keys and settle himself in Kiku's lap. He watched in approval as she carefully ran a single finger across the silky fur.
"I'd love that," she whispered softly, nervous fingers twisting in her school skirt. She slowly and carefully rose from the stool and moved over to him, gently depositing the white cat in her brother's lap as she moved past him. He was pleasantly surprised when she wrapped a pair of strong arms around him in a tight hug. It made him thankful that even as Toshinori he was a bit more durable as most normal people wouldn't be able to stand up to that innocent strength. He returned the hug, smiling at Shuzenji who had tucked herself silently in the corner, observing the drama, but mostly staring at Torino across the room. Curious, he glanced at his old mentor who stood stunned in the doorway, completely ignoring the drama unfolding at the center of the room, his eyes glued to the small gray-haired woman in the corner with light blush on his face. Toshinori smirked internally. He was going to have fun 'taking the Mickey' out of him tonight.
…A.U.T.H.O.R.S..N.O.T.E…
Welp, father and daughter have officially met, and a new quirk has shown itself. Since Horikoshi-sama has been stubborn enough to not reveal all of the OFA quirks yet, if I get to the point where a new quirk should show up, I will decide what it will be even if it later goes against canon.
