The Western Air Temple

Chapter 10

Welp! This is it guys! The last chapter of this fanfic. (Yes, yes! I know… it's sad, but don't worry.) After this, I'm going to be writing more stories! I have a lot of ideas that I want to write about, so be ready for that!

In the last chapter, we left off where Katara got out of that cave, and The group was about to give up and leave! Where will it go?

Everything was loaded on Appa. Aang looked back. It was hard to see through the fog, but he knew that the air temple was not far, and it was sitting, half destroyed by the bombs from the airships.

Aang also wondered where Katara was. She could be inside the temple somewhere. Somewhere that Toph couldn't feel.

Maybe she's dead, and Toph couldn't feel her heartbeat.

Aang closed his eyes and a tear began to form in his eye. He couldn't let himself believe that she was really gone, but inside of him, he felt that it was likely that it were true.

Aang didn't want to leave. He wanted to stay. Keep searching until he found her, but it was too dangerous. Azula was near, she had probably gone back to get more soldiers so she could be sure to take them out.

They needed to leave.

Aang heard footsteps behind him, and immediately knew it was Sokka.

"Zuko has a house on Ember Island," Sokka said, "He says it'll be safe there, we can wear our Firenation disguises to blend in like last time."

Aang didn't acknowledge Sokka. He just stared into the fog. "Aang?"

"I'm fine Sokka." He said, "I just want her to come back. I don't want to leave, I want to keep searching."

"We all do," Sokka replied, "But we have to leave."

"I know." Aang looked down and closed his eyes. A tear ran down his face and fell off his chin into the dirt.

Toph walked over to where Aang and Sokka were. "Hey, if we want to get out of here before Azula comes back, we'd better leave now." She said.

Neither Aang or Sokka moved. Aang couldn't, and Sokka wanted to comfort Aang as much as possible. He wasn't really the most comforting person in the group, but without Katara, he had to try something. So he put a hand on Aang's shoulder. He tried to find words, but he couldn't.

"I'm sorry Aang," Toph said, "but we need to go." Even Toph felt sympathetic towards Aang. She even called him "Aang" instead of "Twinkle Toes."

Aang sighed. He knew they were right. He had to leave. No matter how much he didn't want to.

Aang turned and climbed aboard Appa. He then took a few more minutes to make sure everything was loaded and fastened to the saddle. He took a little longer than normal though. Partly because he was sad and was being slow, and partly because he was trying to procrastinate.

Even though he had no idea where Katara was, and she was probably not even there, it still felt like he was abandoning her.

Aang closed his eyes.

Goodbye Katara… I'll miss you…

Katara climbed down the side of the cliff, and with the help of some Waterbending, she was able to make it back to the camp, but what she saw was not what she was expecting.

There were sleeping bags thrown about the area, along with empty bowls and some other dishes from a dinner. There were even some clothes, and worst of all, the place was mostly destroyed.

What…. What happened?

Katara had no idea what was going on.

Where is everyone?

She looked around to find any sign that they were still there. After finding nothing, she dropped to her knees. She didn't know what to do now. Her friends were gone, and she didn't know where they were.

They couldn't, they couldn't have died?

Katara began to cry. Once again, she didn't know what else to do. After several minutes of crying, she lied down, curled into a ball, holding her knees to her chest, and decided to rest for a while. There was nothing else she could do.

"Yip Yip!" Sokka shouted. Appa flew off the ground and started heading towards ember island. Aang created a cloud camo around Appa so that the Firenation wouldn't try to shoot them down. Usually Aang would fly Appa, but he was too upset to fly now. He decided to sit and rest for now. He hardly got any sleep last night.

He sat on the saddle in the far corner. Toph held onto the edge of the saddle, and Zuko sat cross legged next to her.

No one spoke. Even though Aang showed it the most, everyone was sad. Even Zuko, who Katara hated, felt bad. He didn't look as upset as the rest of the group, but he was.

Aang closed his eyes. He pictured Katara in front of him. Him and Katara laughing and having fun together. These were happy thoughts, but they only made him more upset when he realized she wasn't there. He didn't even know if he'd ever see her again.

He wanted to find her so bad. He wanted to search every corner of the earth until he found her. But he knew if he tried, he wouldn't find her. She could be Anywhere in the world. If she wasn't at the temple, where was she?

Aang gave a small whisper, as if trying to call out to her spirit, "Katara, where are you?"

x-X-X-x

Katara sat sobbing near where their camp once was.

What else could she do? The others were gone. There was a high probability that they may be hurt too. Or worse…

Katara didn't know if she would ever see any of them again.

She wanted to see them so bad. She wanted to see Aang. She wanted to hold him in an embrace, and give him the biggest kiss and hear him say she was his forever girl. She wanted to hear him say "I love you" over and over to her, and never stop.

But Aang wasn't there. No one was there. Katara was alone, and even though she's been alone before. She felt more alone now than any other time in her life. Like she was the last person on the planet.

Katara sat up, brought her knees to her chest, and buried her head in her arms. She closed her eyes, and sat… sad… alone…

She sat for a long time, not doing anything. But then she felt something. Some sort of energy, or force.

She felt it through her entire body. She shivered. Then she heard the words.

Katara, where are you?

Her eyes remained closed, but she spoke quietly. "Aang… I'm right here."

Aang shot awake. He was breathing heavy. He looked around to see both Toph and Zuko sleeping. Sokka was still awake though, he was steering Appa.

Aang looked to his right and saw his glider. He questioned his judgement for a moment, but he eventually decided that he should try. He hurried and grabbed his glider. Sokka heard the sound of it opening.

"Aang, what are you doing?" He asked.

Aang didn't answer. He grabbed his glider by the handles, and took off towards the temple.

"Aaaang!" Sokka screamed, but Aang was out of ear. It didn't matter. Sokka knew that he'd be back. He had his glider.

Aang didn't look back, he just flew, as fast as he could.

Katara wandered around the area, looking for any evidence that her friends had died. She didn't find any. She was relieved, but still scared and sad that she was alone, and she didn't know where everyone was.

She just kept searching for something, anything. She didn't know what else to do. Maybe there'd be a clue to where they went.

Aang flew on his glider as fast as he could. The temple finally came into view, and he scanned it for anybody.

At first glance there was nothing, but then he saw her. Even from a distance, he immediately recognized her. Aang swooped in so happy that he might just pass out.

Katara didn't hear him until he landed directly behind her. Which startled her. She spun around and took a fighting stance, only to realize it was Aang.

"Aang!" She yelled with joy. She ran as fast as she could towards the air nomad and gave him a bone crushing hug. Then she crashed her lips against his.

Aang hadn't even had time to comprehend what was happening, but eventually, he returned her kiss and hug.

When they finally parted, they both had tears in their eyes.

"Your Okay!" Aang yelled.

"You too!" Katara responded.

Aang looked down at Katara and saw the stains of blood on her clothes. "Katara?"

"I'm fine Aang, and no one was killed." She said before he could even ask.

"What happened?" Aang asked.

"Long story, I'll tell you later." Katara gave Aang another hug and put her head on his chest. "I didn't Think I'd ever see you again." She whispered.

"I'm afraid there won't be a later for you two!"

Aang and Katara parted and shot their glance towards the valley. Azula was standing near the edge of the area, and she had the most evil grin on her face.

Aang's eyes widened, and so did Katara's. Katara was especially terrified because she was hardly in any shape to fight.

"Well, well, well! Look what we have here! The Avatar and his watertribe peasant." Azula snickered.

"You'd better watch your mouth!" Aang yelled at her.

"You'd better watch your everything, because it's all about to literally be on fire!" Azula snarled. "Where's the rest of your petty little party group?" She asked.

"It's just us here Azula, you won't get to them, they're long gone." Aang said.

"Oh, well. I was hoping for a challenge, but I suppose just the two of you will do for now." Azula said, disappointed, but she immediately turned back to her evil and psychotic self.

Azula shot a blast of blue flames at Aang and Katara. Aang grabbed Katara and pulled her with him out of the way. He grabbed his staff and took a stance at Azula. Katara took a stance too. She wasn't in shape to fight, but it looked like she had no choice.

Aang whipped his staff downward, sending an air current at Azula. She dodged to the left and shot another fireblast at Aang. He used his staff to redirect it upwards. It made some large chunks of the temple fall, and so Aang earthbended them at Azula.

Azula leaped over them and shot fire at Aang again, using both hands. Aang created an earth wall that stopped the fire.

Aang leaped over the wall to charge at Azula, but she shot a blast of fire that knocked Aang off balance. He fell over and dropped his staff. Azula was about to shoot him with a blast, but was stopped by a whip of water.

Katara ran towards Azula and cast an ice disk at her. Azula used her metal forearm armor to deflect it. Katara sent another two disks towards Azula, but she dove backwards and landed on her hands and feet in a backwards handspring.

Azula used her legs to send a blast of fire at Katara. Katara tried to stop it with water, but she didn't have enough, and it knocked her backwards.

Aang got up and kicked a boulder at Azula. She swiped to the right confidently and blasted Aang with a small fireball. It hit Aang, burning him slightly and sending him back into a stone pillar.

"Aang!" Katara screamed, but was stopped by Azula shooting fire at her. Katara was able to deflect the fire, but she was becoming more and more weak.

Azula stopped shooting for a moment. She swung her fingers around to the left and right, charging them with lightning. Azula shot it at Aang. Luckily, Aang moved in time and was able to dodge it.

Katara was shot at next. She dove to her right to avoid the lightning, but it hurt her. Katara's side cramped and tensed, and then her body froze in place for a moment. Giving Azula just enough time to shoot a bolt directly at Katara.

She didn't have enough time to react and the bolt hit Katara in her chest. She felt the electricity moving through her. It all happened so fast, but she thought for sure she was dead.

Aang grabbed Katara's arm just as she was struck and felt the lightning move through her into him. He tried to redirect it back at Azula, but he did it so quickly, that he accidentally allowed it to pass through his heart. Aang fell injured.

Katara yelled for Aang, but had to focus on Azula. She felt so much anger for what happened to Aang. Then, the lightning, Azula, and Aang reminded her of what happened in Ba Sing Se, and she became furious.

With a single stroke, she sent a wave of water towards Azula. She dodged it, but barely. Azula ran past Katara around the side and tried to leap and strike at the same time. Katara slid under her and whipped her back.

Azula landed and rolled painfully on the ground. Before she could even register, Katara turned and hit Azula with a whip, sending her off the cliff, and into the valley.

Katara felt relieved. She knew that Azula would likely survive, but now she at least had some time to get out of there.

She ran to Aang and used some water to heal him. At first, it looked bad, but most of the lightning was dispersed between the two of them, and so she was able to heal Aang fairly easily.

When she was finished, Aang sat up with a groan. Katara smiled at him.

Aang smiled back, and kissed her. "I love you Katara."

"I love you too, Aang." Katara said.

"Come on!" Aang said standing up, "We need to go!"

Aang opened his glider and grabbed Katara's waste. Katara held onto Aang and his glider, and he took off.

Katara yelped at first, and she closed her eyes. But eventually she calmed down and opened them.

For a moment, they just flew, took in the view, and let the wind carry them away from Azula and the temple.

"Where are we going?" Katara asked.

"Ember Island. Zuko has a beach house there." He said.

"Oh."

Aang thought about the way Katara looked at the moment.

"Katara, where did all that blood come from?" Aang asked.

Katara closed her eyes tightly. "I'd rather not talk about it right now." She said.

"Ok, that's fine."

There was a pause for a while before Katara spoke.

"This is nice." She said.

"Yeah, it is." Aang agreed.

They both paused again for a moment.

"Aang." Katara said

"Yeah?" He asked.

"I love you." She said, looking at him for a moment.

Aang's cheeks turned red, and he smiled. "I love you too Katara."

Well… that's it… The Western Air Temple.

Maybe, Just maybe, I'll make a sequel to this. But not yet. I want to write some other stuff first.

Thank you everyone who read this! I appreciate you all!

Some Quick stuff That I want to say!

First Off. Holy crap! There are over 1k views at the time that I am writing this. Did not expect to get that many. So thank you everyone, again! This story was really fun to write, and I think I needed to write it to get used to writing again. It's been almost a year since I wrote something that could count as actual writing. I'm figuring more and more stuff out about this site, so my next stories will probably be in a better format, and use actual formatting instead of just a bunch of dashes, lol.

Thank you for all of your reviews too! I read every single one of them up to this point and I'll probably read more after this as well! I'm glad you all enjoyed this!

Fun Facts:

This was originally just going to be a one shot that I wrote, but I expanded it.

This is my 1st multi-chaptered story!

I wrote the first chapter at 4 in the morning because I was bored, lol!

I originally thought this was only going to get 20 views, lol. Guess we beat that.

I typed all of this on my phone, so that's cool. It's also why some of the format may be weird (lots of line breaks, lol)

Thank you so much for reading!

Be sure to check out my future stories!

:P
