CHAPTER 8

General POV

'Roy' woke up to the loud sound of a girl hounding her friend, he slowly opened his eyes while adjusting them to the lights. He turned towards where the sound was came from and he saw a young girl repeatedly poking her friend with a stick that came from who knows where while she kept saying, "Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren, Ren..."

'Roy' rubbed the bridges between his nose and stretched his muscles as he could hear and feel his bones pop before he said, "It's way too early for this shit." He turned back to the pair that was giving him chronic deja vu.

She was a fair-skinned young woman with orange hair and turquoise eyes. She wears a collared black sleeveless vest, with a blue central front section with red accents, her vest has her emblem, on the back. Under the vest, she wears a white sleeveless t-shirt with a heart-shaped cutout above her breast line in the center accompanied by a peek at what's beneath. She has a short pink skirt on with a single white layer under it. Her white ankle boots sport pink soles with part of her emblem, the lighting bolt, on them and low heels with pink laces, the tops are folded over revealing the pink lining. She also wears a silver armor piece that wraps around waist, under her breasts and around the back on her neck with metal connecting each piece together at the front. This little ball of endless energy is Nora Valkyrie.

Next to her, just waking up, is her life long friend Lie Ren. Ren is a young man with long black hair that ends midway down his back. There is a magenta streak on the left side of his hair. His eyes match the streak in his hair, and his clothing resembles something worn in China. He wears a dark green, diagonally-buttoned, long-sleeved tailcoat that is red on the inside, with black and gold trimming and pink cuffs. The trimming goes down the right side of his torso and forms a black collar. Along with this, he wears a black, long-sleeved shirt beneath the suit and light-tan pants with black shoes.

"Wake up, lazy butt!", Nora shouts in his face.

The scene switches to normal, showing Ren get up with a groan.

"It's morning! It's morning! It's morning! It's morning!" Nora sings while jumping between different positions around Ren.

Ren sighs at Nora's antics.

"I can't believe we've been at Beacon for a full twenty-four hours! Not that I thought we'd get kicked out or anything, I mean, you're the perfect student and I'm... well, I'm me! But it's just crazy, you know?" Nora babbles.

As the two were going on with their little skit, Ruby starts dragging her brother off the ground while trying to get him ready. After 'Roy' and his sisters get their clothes on and are ready for the day, he turns back to the duo. His and Ren's eyes meet and they give each other an understanding smile while Nora rambles on. Ren stands up while dusting himself off, he looked to Nora with content smile and said, "Nora"

"We've been friends for soooooooo long! What are the odds we'd still be together? Well, not 'together-together...'' Nora continues.

Ren repeats, "Nora."

"Not that I'm not saying that you're not handsome; you are handsome, but that'd just be weird, right?" Nora refuses to stop talking.

Ren says it once more but louder, "NORA."

Nora blinked a few times and asked, "Yes, Ren?"

Ren says to Nora, "Come on Nora, let's go before they run out of pancakes."

Nora adopted a look of horror at the thought of not being able to have pancakes in the morning. When she came to her senses, she blasted out of the ballroom leaving only her smoke shadow... and Ren.

'Roy' and Ren look at each before laughing for a bit, 'Roy' looks at Ren and asks, "Is she always like that? I mean, is she that energetic on a normal-ish day? Oh, you can call me 'Roy'. I heard her calling you 'Ren', nice name."

"Thanks, as for her..." Ren shrugs and says, "Meh, I've been around Nora so long I can't really tell."

'Roy' sighs, "Yeah, babysitters for life... When do you think she's gonna realize that she doesn't know where the cafeteria is?"

Ren shrugs, gesturing that doesn't know.

1 hour later in the Locker Room

'Roy' was sitting on the bench next to his sisters, breathing in a paper bag and try to calm himself down. Not many people knew this about him, but he had a crippling fear of falling. Outside of his family in either of his lives, the only person who knew was Pitch.

Yang walks over to him and sits down next to 'Roy', she rubs his back and asks, "Hey bro, you alright? You're lookin' kind of pale there."

'Roy' takes one slow deep breath before telling her in a voice that's combined with a groan, "Yep, never better."

In the background Ren could be seen smiling as he shuts his locker. "Come on Nora, let's go." He looked over to 'Roy' and wished him good luck, to which he received a nod as he lowered his flat cap over his eyes.

"But not 'together-together...'" Nora giggles while following her love interest.

"Wonder what those two are so worked up about?" Ruby says.

Yang responds. "Oh, who knows? So, you seem awfully chipper this morning!"

'Roy' groans and thought, 'Ugh, and you sound like an old lady and that's a lot coming from me. Spiritually, I'm older than Uncle Qrow. *Sigh* Well, no point stopping now, not when I've gotten this far.'

"Yep! No more awkward small talk or 'getting-to-know-you' stuff. Today, I get to let my sweetheart do the talking." Ruby strokes Crescent Rose as she sighs happily.

"Well, remember, Ruby, you're not the only one going through initiation. If you wanna grow up, you're gonna have to meet new people and learn to work together." Yang lectures.

'Roy' gets up off the bench and turns to Yang while giving her a flat look, "Then should probably start by practicing what you preach."

Yang's eyes turn red for a moment before 'Roy' raises his hand in surrender, "Okay okay, point taken." 'Yeah~, more like a point proven, but I don't really feel like having my bones broken today.'

Ruby sighs in frustration. "You sound like Dad!" She shoves her weapon back into the locker. "Okay, first of all: What does meeting new people have to do with fighting? And secondly: I don't need people to help me grow up! I drink milk!"

'Roy' rolls his eyes, 'Fifteen years later and I still can't tell if she was talking about her boobs or her bones and over all growth."

"But what about when we form teams?" Yang reminds Ruby.

Ruby is suddenly nervous. "Um, I don't know, I... I'll just be on your team or something..."

Yang brings her hair around her shoulder and starts stroking it. "Maybe you should try being on someone else's team?"

"My dear sister Yang, are you implying that you do not wish to be on the same team as me?" Ruby accuses her sister.

"What? No! Of course I do! I just thought... I don't know, maybe it would help you... break out of your shell!" Yang defends herself.

Ruby sounds frustrated. "What the-?! I don't need to 'break out of my shell'! That's absolutely…"

"Ridiculous!" Jaune appears suddenly walking in between the sisters, holding a map and looking lost.

'Roy' chuckled while wiping off some of his sweat on his forehead from the earlier panic attack, 'And the comedy relief makes his appearance with his first skit called "Crash & Burn". Maybe I should use 'Tobi' to teleport to the end... No, that won't work, worst case scenario I get paired with that douche Cardin or one of the three stooges that follow him like lemmings... No, maybe I could...'

As 'Roy' was having his internal monologue, he was pulled from his thoughts when he heard Pyrrha say, "Well, that sounds grand!"

"Great." Weiss considers this a victory.

After that, thunderclouds started to appear in Weiss's mind space as she adopts a scheming pose and manic smile in her head.

'This will be perfect! The smartest girl in class combined with the strongest girl in class! Together we will be unstoppable! I can see it now! We'll be popular! We'll be celebrities! We'll get perfect grades! Nothing can come between us now!' Weiss thought to herself with a weird echo for some reason.

'Roy' smirks to himself and thinks, 'Might as well blow off some steam. Sorry Weiss, but you're gonna be my outlet. At least at this point in time you kinda deserve it. So sad, I would've let this go if you hadn't snapped at Ruby last night.'

'Roy' walked up behind her and said, "Your face is gonna get stuck like that if you keep your evil scheming up for any longer."

Weiss blushed in embarrassment and turned around only to have Jaune come between the two and interrupting Weiss' response. "You know what else is great? Me. Jaune Arc. Nice to meet you." He introduces himself.

Weiss is irritated by the interruption. "You again?"

'Roy's' eyebrow twitched as he had also gotten annoyed by the blonde's antics, "Hey, she trying to-."

"Yeah, yeah." Jaune interrupted and pushed 'Roy' and Pyrrha aside and talked to Weiss, posing slightly. "So, Weiss, couldn't help but overhear your fondness of me last night. Did my looks keep you up at night."

As Jaune did that, 'Roy' began to feel his temper rising. 'Alright, that's one...'

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me!" Weiss complains.

"Don't worry! No need to be embarrassed! So, been hearing rumors about teams! I was thinking you and me would make a good one! What do you say?" Jaune flirts.

"Actually…" Pyrrha interrupts Jaune's attention. "…I think the teams are comprised of four students each, so…"

"You don't say." Jaune interrupts now advancing on Pyrrha. "Well, hot stuff, play your cards right and maybe you could join up with the winning team."

Weiss quickly separates the two. "Jaune, is it? Do you have any idea who you're talking to?"

"Not in the slightest, snow angel." Jaune resumes flirting with Weiss.

"This is Pyrrha, she graduated top of her class at Sanctum!" Weiss explains.

"Never heard of it." Jaune bluntly responds.

'Roy' takes a deep breath to calm himself down and thought that he might as well help the poor idiot, "It's the training school in Mistral."

Weiss scoffs as if she herself was insulted. "She's won the Mistral Region Tournaments four years in a row! A new record!"

"The what?" Jaune has no idea what that is.

"It's a tournament held in Mistral twice a year."

Weiss waves her arms rapidly in anger "She's on the front of every Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes box!"

'Roy' shrugged and thought that he might as well make a joke out of it, "The what?"

Jaune gasps suddenly. "That's you?! But they only do that for star athletes and cartoon characters!"

"Yeah, it was pretty cool. Sadly, the cereal isn't very good for you." Pyrrha tells them as she barely succeeds in hiding her laughter at 'Roy's' obvious lie and Weiss' increasing annoyance. The only sound that escapes is a faint squeaking similar to a hyena.

Weiss then asks him, "So, after hearing all of this, do you really think you're in a position to ask her to be on your team?"

Jaune hangs his head. "I guess not... Sorry..."

Pyrrha goes to encourage Jaune. "Actually, Jaune, I think you'd make a great leader."

Jaune immediately brightens back up. "D'oh, stop it."

"Seriously, please stop it." Weiss deadpans. "This kind of behavior should not be encouraged."

"Sounds like Pyrrha's on board for Team Jaune." Jaune returns to standing in front of Weiss and flirting "Spots are filling up quick! Now, I'm not supposed to do this, but maybe I could pull some strings, find a place for you. What do you say?"

"All right, that's a bit too close!" Weiss backs off "Pyrrha, 'Roy', a little help, please?!"

Jaune looks back just in time to see Pyrrha's weapon strike him in the hood, sending the would-be leader flying out of view.

"I'm sorry."

An announcement plays on the intercom system. Goodwitch's voice is heard. "Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation? Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately."

Weiss passes Jaune while looking to see that 'Roy' slipped away while she literally leaves Jaune hanging. Pyrrha follows her, but not before she pulled her spear out of the locker with a subtle use of her semblance and dropped Jaune to the ground. "It was nice meeting you!"

Jaune slumps against the locker. "Likewise..."

Ruby and Yang approach, the latter asks. "Having some trouble there, lady-killer?"

"I don't understand. My dad said all women look for is confidence! Where did I go wrong?" Jaune accepts Ruby's offered hand and uses her to lift himself back up.

"'Snow Angel' probably wasn't the best start." Yang advises.

"Come on, Jaune, let's go." Ruby leads Jaune out of the locker room by supporting him and his damaged self-esteem.

Beacon Cliff

After a short walk, the students finally arrive at Beacon Cliff where they are looking over the edge and standing on silver tiles. After taking in the view, they hear a voice, "Lovely view, isn't it?"

They all turn their heads to see Professor Ozpin holding a mug of cocoa while scowling at the man that cut the class in half, Glynda in the middle with her tablet and trying not to be noticed by the two, and Pitch Black a humble smile and eyes that are glaring holes into Ozpin's head.

Meanwhile, 'Roy' looks over at the others and notices that Pyrrha is sending Pitch strange looks, he then turns to Pitch with a look that says, 'Why the hell do you look like Tobirama at an Uchiha family reunion?' Pitch notices and eases off his glare at Ozpin.

(A/N: Roy is standing next to Jaune.)

"Ahem, for years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." Ozpin says to the students.

Goodwitch continues. "Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of 'teams.' Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... today."

"What? Ohhh..." Ruby says to herself, very nervous.

Ozpin further explains. "These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well."

Ruby groans.

"That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years." Ozpin reveals.

And like that Ruby's reality shatters like glass and leaves Ruby a panic and pieces. "Whaaaat!?" She squeaks.

Nora says to Ren. "See? I told you-!"

Ozpin resumes the explanation. "After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die."

Jaune laughs nervously and then gulps loudly.

"You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?"

'Roy' narrowed his eyes and asked, "Yeah, two actually. If my math is right, there is an odd number of people here, so someone isn't gonna get a partner. What happens to him? Oh, and why's Pi- Professor Black here?"

Ozpin smirks and looks over to Pitch before saying, "He or she will get a 'partner' of sorts, but don't get any ideas of being the odd man out on purpose, I can guarantee that won't be pleasant. As for why he's here, he had nothing better to do so he volun-."

Pitch cut him off while slouching, wearing a flat look and using an annoyed tone, "I was in the middle of unpacking when he barged in and thought that this would be a good way to pay me back for the pranks I pulled during my school and teaching days."

Ozpin gave Pitch a look and told him in a stern voice, "Putting laxatives in Ooblecks coffee and literally turning my office upside down are not pranks."

Pitch returned the look and snapped back, "Come now, he deserved it for erasing my board BEFORE class just write down a coffee recipe."

"What you did was going too far and completely out of line!"

"Oh, 'too far', I'll be sure to keep that in mind the next time you send me after a serial killer!"

"YOU CAME BACK WITHOUT A SCRATCH! WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT!?"

"IT WAS MY FIRST SOLO MISSION AND LAST I CHECK LOSING AN ARM IS NOT A SCRATCH!

"AND YOU GOT BETTER!"

"I HAD GO THROUGH A MONTH OF REHAB AND I JUST BECAME A SECOND YEAR!"

Glynda sighed while reevaluating her life choices, she looked to the students and said, "They are going to be at this for a while. Now, take your positions.

"Yeah, um, mam?" Jaune raises his hand.

Everyone strikes a pose on their tile. Nora crouches low, Ren wields his weapons, Yang raises her fists, Ruby readies her body, 'Roy' thinks of the best way not to get screwed over, and Jaune is still raising his hand.

Jaune spoke out, "Uh, Ms-?"

Glynda gave him a stern look and corrected him, "Missus."

"Um, right. I've got, um... a question." Jaune says, missing the tile under Weiss rising up into a springboard, rocketing her into the air and over the forest, as the platforms activate down the line. "So, this landing... strategy thing... Uh, wha-what is it? You're, like, dropping us off or something?"

Meanwhile, 'Roy' is swinging his arms to his sides like pendulums while repeating the phrase, "This is crazy, this is crazy, this is crazy..."

"No. You will be falling." Glynda explains.

Jaune still doesn't see the other students being launched. "Oh, uh, I see... So, like, did you hand out parachutes for us?" he asks.

"No. You will be using your own landing strategy." Glynda clarifies.

Jaune still doesn't notice as an excited Nora and Ren get launched. "Uh-huh… Yeah."

At her turn, Yang winks at her younger sister, puts on a pair of aviators, and flies off with a "Woo-hoooooooo!" a second before Ruby joins her.

'Roy' has started to calm down and gets in a position.

"So, what exactly is a landing strategeeeee…" Jaune is interrupted by suddenly being launched into the Emerald Forest.

'Roy' looks over the edge, "Okay, you can do this, let's go. How bad could it beeeeeeee...!?

Glynda looks back at the two behind her and sees that they are still yelling at each other. She thought to herself, 'I need a raise...'

Landing

While Pitch and Ozpin were going at it, a black bird could be seen flying through the sky. This is actually Raven Branwen in her bird form and she was very annoyed, 'Damn it Pitch. I know that I can't exactly walk in through the front door with Ozpin hunting me down, but come on. You could've called me after you moved in, I could've warped myself there. I-... Wait, what's that sou- OH SON OF A BITCH!'

Raven narrowly avoided colliding with her best friend's daughter Ruby. "Birdie, no!" Ruby screams.

The bird then cawed in a way that sounded like, 'Fuck you!'

Ruby fires off a few rounds from Crescent Rose to slow her down, then turns the weapon into its scythe form to catch the branch of a tree in her blade and fall downward at a slower pace.

Meanwhile Weiss, armed with Myrtenaster, summons a white snowflake glyph under her and leaps off of it to the forest below.

Ren descends (with Nora briefly being seen next to him at a faster speed) and spins in the air, eventually using his blades to spiral around the trunk of a large tree and hit the ground, brushing off his clothes.

"Woo-hoo! Yeah! Alley-oop!" Yang, soaring right over the treetops, is using her gauntlets and its fiery force to push her through the air further and further north, spinning and laughing with each blast, even when she crashes through the leaves of a tree and leaps off two trunks to tumble to the ground. "Nailed it!" She declares as she runs off.

Pyrrha, her weapon in sword form and armed with a shield, crashes through several trees and rolls on a branch, immediately shifting her blade into a rifle and looking through the scope at Jaune and 'Roy' as they continue to scream and fall helplessly. Pyrrha coolly transforms her weapon again to its spear form, takes a moment to decide who to save and evaluates her throw, when finished making her choice she launches the javelin deep into the forest until a 'THUNK!' is heard.

(With 'Roy' 1 minute ago)

'Roy' can be seen flailing through the air with a small amount of control while screaming, "I REGRET THIS SO MUCH!"

(Now)

"I'm sorry!" Pyrrha waves in 'Roy's' direction.

In the middle of the forest, Ruby lands in a crouch, then darts off with a single mantra in her mind. 'Gotta find Yang! Gotta find Roy, gotta find someone, gotta find...'

"'Roy'! Yaaaang!" Ruby yells.

'Oh, this is bad, this is really bad... What if I can't find them? What if someone finds her first?' Ruby thinks. 'Well, there's always Jaune. He's nice.' A bubble thought of them badly draw versions of her and Jaune appeared above her head.

'He's funny!' The bubble image changes to them laughing together.

'...I don't think he's very good in a fight, though.' Bubble Jaune is attacked by badly drawn Beowolves.

'Ooh! What about Blake?! So mysterious, so calm...' Bubble Blake appears.

'Plus she likes books!' Bubble Blake is surrounded by books.

'Then again, I'm not sure I'd be able to hold a conversation with her... Ugh!' Bubble Blake walks away as Bubble Ruby talks.

Ruby shakes her head of the daydreams. 'Okay... Who else do I know in this school? There's Yang, 'Roy', Jaune, Blake, a~nd...'

Ruby kids to a halt to avoid running into someone. This someone is Weiss.

She stops just in time for their eyes to meet and a pregnant pause follows. This ends when Weiss turns on her heel and walks the other way.

"Wait! Where are you going?!" Ruby follows Weiss a few steps.

Dejectedly Ruby stomps and kicks the ground. "We're supposed to be teammates..."

Weiss is seen struggling through the forest, giving an occasional grunt or "Ow!" as she pushes plants out of her way. She brushes herself off and sighs in relief when she hears a voice above her.

She looked up in horror and saw 'Roy' half-dead with Pyrrha's spear through his sternum while he grips the handle, pinning him to a tree. "Help me..."

As 'Roy' let's go and faints and falls to the ground as he phases through the spear. Weiss' mind blanks out as she spins in the opposite direction and heads back in the direction she came from and tries to repress what she saw someone "die".

Weiss passes Ruby and pulls her by the hood. "By no means does this make us friends."

"You came back!" Ruby is overjoyed as she's dragged away into the bushes.

"'Roy'." Shortly after Pyrrha appears above him, she shakes him a bit and sees him open his eyes briefly, she felt relief in that moment, "I suppose that will have to do."

She used her semblance to retrieve her weapon, afterward she proceeded to carry him piggyback style.
