Seeing Scott again:
For two long years, the Pym Family were on the run from the FBI and the government. They didn't know how long it would go on for…but they knew it was going to be a very long time. And there was only person to blame for that. Scott.
George remained increasingly worried about Alison who had risked being captured to save his life. He insisted on contacting her, but Hope convinced him not to, telling him it would put her in more trouble with the government.
George had gone through quite a lot after losing his honour and his position in the Navy. But he had his father and twin sister to cling on to. Putting his mechanical engineering skills to good use, he had helped his father and his sister build the magnificent tunnel with the assistance of their ant pets.
"Almost done," he said, tweaking with the some of the cables.
"You've done a great job son," Hank said proudly.
"Mum would be so proud of you with all that engineering you've done for her," Hope complimented.
"Thanks," he said, a little glumly.
Hank knew the cause of his gloom. "George…I know you think it might be impossible, but she has to be alive down there,"
George's mood didn't warm up. Nonetheless all he offered was a simple nod. "Okay…it's nearly ready. We should be able to power it up in a couple of hours,"
"Your bristles look so neatly done by the way," Hope smiled.
George rubbed his bristly chin. "Not as nice as your lovely hair,"
Hope's hair had grown to her mid-chest. "Thank you,"
"Just a couple more minutes, and then…we're good to go,"
A few minutes passed and the power was up. They stood in the control room.
"Are you guys ready?" Hank asked.
"Ready as I'll have be," Hope answered.
"I suppose so," George said glumly.
Hope sighed. As much as George loved their mother and wanted her back, it was still difficult to have faith that they could bring her back.
"Okay. Here goes," Hank pushed a button. The tunnel switched on and the turbines started spinning around in circles. Golden energy was formed in the tunnel.
"It's working," Hope cheered. "It's working!"
George started to have hope…until a sudden…
Burst.
The tunnel shut down and the turbines stopped spinning.
"What? What happened?"
Hank checked the wires and the controls. "The tunnel overloaded with too much power,"
George started getting all hissing.
"Don't beat yourself up," Hank soothed his shoulder blades. "It's all about trial and error,"
"Maybe it failed because…maybe she isn't down there!"
"George will you calm down?" Hope implored.
"Calm down? We've worked on this for two tiring years! And for what? To see it go boom!"
"George…we just need another component to stop it overloading again,"
"I'm goanna go and calm down," George stalked out of the control room to a private room to relax. A minute later, he heard the door open and Hope coming in.
"You okay?" she asked.
"I'm fine,"
"George…I know that you accepted mum's death a long time ago. I did too. But ever since…Scott…" she sounded hurt. "…made it out of the Quantum realm, dad has had the highest belief, that she is alive there somewhere. And so I believe it too. You have to believe it as well,"
"It's difficult to do it…it's been thirty years. Even if she is alive down, what if she doesn't remember us?"
Hope couldn't answer. She seemed to agree with her brother's laments. Before she could pluck up the courage to say anything else, their dad came bursting into the room.
"You are not goanna believe who just called," Hank said.
George stood up. "Let me guess Scott," he hissed. "Well, if he was asking for an apology, I hope you told me that we're not interested,"
"He was asking for an apology. He said he had a dream about mum,"
The twins were flabbergasted. "What?" they breathed together.
"He said that he had a dream about being back in the Quantum Realm and seeing Janet. And…being her. I think it's possible that he entangled with her,"
"So…they're connected?" George asked.
"Yes. And since this happened only after we opened up the tunnel, it means that opening it up must have triggered it,"
"So he could be the key to getting mum back?" Hope asked.
The look on Hank's face meant 'yes'.
"Then that means we need to get him,"
"But he's under house arrest," George reminded him. "We take him out, the alarm will be raised and the FBI will track us down,"
"Not if we slip it off him and put an ant in his place," Hank answered.
"I suppose that could work,"
"I'll get him," Hope said.
"Absolutely not!" George refused. "Not after he…"
"George! I can handle it," Hope answered.
"Okay. Just be careful,"
"You know very well that I will," Hope left the lab, taking a small grey car to use as her means of transported and a couple of ants.
"Let's fix up what got busted whilst she's gone," Hank said. "And George…be sure to control your temper around Scott,"
"How can I? He's ruined our lives dad!"
"Yes he did. But we need him alive to get your mother back,"
"But what if…"
"George…you have to relax. I know how much these last two years have been for you. I know how under stressed you've been with everything. I have as well. But you're letting your stress weigh you down. Your mother once said, 'Take stress slowly, or it weighs your hopes down.' Everything will be fine."
(a few hours later)
George was busy feeding some of the ants where he heard doors opening. He turned and saw his sister with Scott in his pyjamas and he had no ankle monitor on his ankle.
"There he is," he said over to his dad.
His dad walked down the tunnel to meet their former friend and Hope.
"Remember George…" Hank touched his shoulder. "Take it easy,"
"At least let me give him a punch," he muttered.
Scott noticed them approaching and looked at them with guilt. "Hey Hank. Hey George," he was more scared of George than he was of his former mentor. "Look guys I…"
"Save it," Hank hissed.
"You know what comes next Scott," George started.
"What comes next?"
A clenched fist flew into his face and he fell to the floor.
"I've been waiting a long time to do that," the former-navy man said calmly, though his temper at the former thief was plastered on his face from his furrowed eyebrows. "Traitor,"
Scott said nothing back. He deserved it.
"While you were relaxing at home, we were building this," Hope gestured to the tunnel. "It's a tunnel. To the quantum realm. To mum. We think she might still be down there. We just don't know where,"
"What?"
"If we can pinpoint mom's location, then the pod can take one of us down to get her,"
"You built all this, and you don't even know if she's alive?" he asked.
"It's called a hypothesis," Hank explained.
"Last night, we powered up the tunnel for the first time. It was overloaded and it shut down," George said.
"But for a split second, the doorway to the quantum realm was opened,"
"And?" Scott drifted off.
"And five minutes later, you called talking about mum," Hope answered.
"We think when you were down there, you might have entangled with her," Hank assumed.
"Hank, I would never do that. I respect you too much," Scott defended himself.
"He's means 'quantum entanglement' you idiot," George had waited a long time to call Scott that other than 'traitor'. "It's possible that she put some kind of message in your head and since it happened after we attempted up the tunnel…"
"We assumed that opening it must have triggered it," Hope ended.
"You mum put a message in my head?" Scott was unconvinced. "That's insane,"
"No. What's insane Scott is you going to Germany without telling us and fighting with the Avengers," Hank said angrily.
"We've all lost everything because of you," George a hard finger into Scott's chest. "We've lost our home, our jobs…our freedom. We've had to go on the run for two tiring years,"
"Come on George! Do you seriously think I intended this to happen?" Scott asked, flabbergasted such accusation.
"Tell me you weren't lying about the suit you took," Hank ordered. "Tell me you destroyed,"
"I destroyed it I swear,'
"I can't believe you did that," Hank answered back angrily. "That was my life's work!"
"What was I supposed to do?" Scott asked.
"You were supposed to not take my suit!" Hank yelled.
"I'm sorry!" Scott yelled back. "I'm sorry I took the suit! I'm sorry that I ruined your lives! I'm sorry that I called-last night," He started to stammer. "I don't remember seeing Janet down there. I wish that I did. I just had a dream about her playing hide-and-seek with two children"
"What?" Hope asked him.
"I had a dream. She was playing hide-and-seek with two little kids. Cassie and I do it all the time,"
"Was Cassie one of the kids in the dream?"
"No,"
"Where were the two little kids hiding? Was it in a wardrobe?"
"No, it was a tall dresser,"
"That's a wardrobe you idiot," George snapped gently.
"Is that what's called?"
George smacked his forehead with his palm.
"What colour was the wardrobe?" Hope continued interrogating.
"Red?"
"Were there horses on it?"
"Yes,"
Hope's face was glimmering. "It's where George and I hid every time that we played,"
"Sounds like you guys didn't really get the gist of the game,"
Hope turned to her twin.
"She's alive," George was spilling out tears of joy. For the past two years, he had been doubtful, having accepted her 'death' a long time ago. But for the first time in his life, he felt his heart soaring with joy. Immediately he embraced his sister and they embraced their father.
"I knew it!" Hank cheered.
"Then there's no time to waste," Hope said. "We need to get that component,"
"Then let's waste no time all like," George said.
Hope lead everyone to the control room. "The sooner we get the tunnel working, the sooner we can get this message out of his head,"
"And the sooner we'll be spared the presence of this idiot,"
"Hey! I'm right here you know," Scott defended himself.
"I know you are,"
"Does Birch have the piece Hope?" Hank asked.
"Yeah. Let's go,"
"What part?" Scott asked. "Who's Birch? Where are we going?"
They walked outside.
"We need a component to stop the tunnel from overloading again," George explained. "And luckily Hope knows a guy who can help,"
Hope opened the car door. "I brought you some clothes Scott. You might wanna change," she tossed him a bag.
Hank took a remote and pressed a button. The car shrunk. Meanwhile George opened their circle-shaped container and pulled out a small van and placed it on the ground. Hank pressed a button again and it was big.
"Look guys, I would really love to help," Scott said. "But if I'm not home when they come to take off my ankle monitor, then I'm going away forever,"
"Once we get that component, we'll the message out of your head and have you home by lunch," Hope said. "And we have to hurry. The entanglement won't last,"
"You owe us," Hank pointed his finger at Scott.
"Big time," George emphasised. "And if you refuse…." he punched his fists.
Scott huffed. "Fine, but can I just wait inside? Because I'm not supposed to e out here,"
"No need," George answers.
Hank pressed another button on the remote control and 'whoosh'. The laboratory shrunk to the size of a suitcase. A pigeon flew off the black handle. "Let's go," he said, pulling the lab.
"I've got my eye on you Scott," George warned. "And don't even think about trying to escape,"
"Got it," Scott gulped.
What'd you guys think? Enjoyed it. Blimey George is going to find it difficult dealing with Scott around. He'll have to control his temper. Get ready for the next one.
