Another coughing attack made Jamie wake up from his light sleep. He felt terrible. During the night, he had barely slept. The doctors had made an MRT and some X-rays, and the bacteriologists were still examining the unknown bacteria. Still, they couldn´t do anything. Doctor Brook had tried to provide him a CPAP-breathing therapy, which had actually helped him keep breathing for a while, but when he coughed up blood again, it turned out impractical. At least his temperature had gone down after getting some fever-decreasing medicaments. Jamie caught his breath again an tried to relax. His whole body was hurting and he was trembling from exhaustion. He opened his eyes and was surprised to see Erin sitting next to his bed. She smiled at him and reached out for his hand. "Hey, Jamie." Jamie weakly squeezed her hand and heaved himself up a little bit. "Hello, Erin.", he croaked. "What time is it?" "It´s ten in the morning." Jamie was surprised. The curtains to his windows were closed and it wasn´t very bright in his room, so he had lost feeling of time. "Where´s Dad?" "He had to leave. There was…" Erin broke up. She didn´t want Jamie to get upset because of the second Officer who had been attacked. "What?", he asked, sensing the suffocating feeling clutching his chest again. When he was shook by the cough, he felt blood escaping his lips and splattering his hands and bed sheets. The two nurses who had been staying at the door hurried to his side, one of them holding him upright while the other one offered him a paper towel to swipe his face. Jamie reached for Erin´s hand and grabbed it in panic. He felt both hot and freezing at the same time. Shaking, he laid back in the sheets. He vaguely noticed Doctor Brook coming in and talking something. Erin seemed to say something, but Jamie couldn´t make out any words. He just concentrated on breathing in and out before he just passed out.

When Frank left the hospital, he felt at least a little relieved. Apparently, the other attacked officer didn´t get infected by the bacillus. Somehow the bacteria had already died before Blaze sprayed them. The bacteriologists assumed that the bacteria needed to remain a certain low temperature before the infection, which explained why Blaze had stored them in his fridge.

Still, there was one infected policeman: Jamie. Frank had left as he heard of the second attack while Jamie had managed to calm down enough to sleep a little. Erin had called him earlier telling him no good news: His son was getting worse. Now Frank was on his way to the Medical lab to get any information. He felt helpless. He was unable to help Jamie, Danny struggled with finding David Blaze and he knew hardly anything.
