The Ballad of the Hero of Time
By: Triforcehero626
Power and courage and wisdom had I
They were created in a blue sky
By the Godeses Farore, Nayaru, and Din
Who all created the rich mountains
They built the world, leaving a mark with a gold glow
It made the hearts of strong men turn from ally to foe
War was wrought in Hylia's land
With many brave men and women taking a stand
To protect the precious treasure, the Triforce,
Nohansen's line began to reinforce
Sages were appointed, and temples were made
To seal the place where the Triforce was laid
A sacred sword and an ocarina of blue
Were two pieces of the puzzle to subdue
The three final keys of the door to the golden light
Were three gems, shining bright
An emerald of the lightest green
Kept by a forest guardian wise and keen
A ruby of glowing red
Was guarded by a tribe, living in a fiery mountain of dread
The final key was a sapphire of a cobalt hue
Kept safe by a guardian of waters blue
It was I with these hidden keys that opened the gate that protected the golden power
I was blinded by false truths and dangerous valor
I played the song and opened the door
And it was then that rain started to pour
I saw the sacred sword in all of its glory
"Draw me, use me to seal the darkness away.", it seemed to implore to me
I grasped the hilt, and the world started to spin
In mere moments I had almost let evil win
A man came and followed me with zeal
To the Sacred Realm where the artifact laid that he had come to steal
The man laid his hand on the golden light
But the only thing he wished for was its might
Into three parts it split, Wisdom, Courage, and Power
It was then that the land became dark and dour
For seven years I slept and waited
When I woke up, Hyrule's light had almost faded
Many battles I fought to regain the man's Triforce piece
For I gave an oath to Hylia's land that I needed to release
A princess, both wise and brave
Gave me her piece of Wisdom for me to save
With all three pieces once more combined
I strove to prevent the world from harm, by going back in time
Only courage I have now, for it is never going to leave me
Never again shall I be tricked, or have someone deceive me
I warned the young princess, who once was my friend
But as someone once told me, all good things must come to an end
Afterward, I wandered the world like a forgotten hero, merely a legend
I saw that it must have been destined
My wandering was not for naught
For I had been searching for a friend that was lost
My travels brought me to a wood filled with mist
And it was there that a new adventure occurred that I had to persist
A terrible fate befell me, and a new companion had I
I would succeed in saving the world from the danger from the sky
A three-day cycle then began
A race against an evil mask more powerful than any man
I became a healer of troubled spirits and saddened people, through music I made masks
And although I managed to win, there were many dangerous tasks
The borrowed might of a fierce deity I had, through many mask retrievals
After the effortless battle I fought against the mask of Majora, I wondered if the mask of the diety was filled with too many evils
After the mask of Majora was dead and depleted
The quest that I took was finally completed
I wandered back to a world I once knew
And many years later, gave my love to a girl who loved me too
A soldier I became, and then promoted to general
Many battles I fought and won, and I became proud and venerable
Three children had I, a boy and two girls,
But all were too young for me to teach them my blade skills
A new war began against the desert people, where many men and women would die
It was during this war that I lost my right eye
Mortally wounded, I ran to the woods where once I had to reside
And it was there that I was spotted by an evil eye
Chased by a defeated enemy that was black as night
For once in a long time, I was filled with fright
Sword clashed against sword, and many hours fell
It sounded much like the ringing of a bell
My eyesight dimmed as my foe stood above my defeated form
During our mighty battle, there had formed a thunderstorm
With my chainmail slashed and my shield badly worn
I closed my remaining eye and knew that my family would mourn
Death greeted me then, so silently and gently
I then saw an image of Hylia's land with peace aplenty
In the vision I had, I saw a Stalfos standing tall
Wearing a heavy General's armor as if it weighed nothing at all
I saw a young swordsman, who looked a lot like I
In my vision, he learned my secret skills, and my worries began to die
As I lay on the ground, I felt no more fear
As I died, I thought of those I hold dear
Peacefully I rest now, in a forest glade
Shining in my grip forever is my reliable blade
I lie now and wait…
And I hope, hope for a distant child of my blood to relieve my troubles, and release me to the final death that I await
From the memories of Link, The Hero of Time.
